  • Why should I choose either PCL or PS when both are supported

    Obviously the answer depends to some degree on the various versions supported, but in general terms - is there any reason I should pick one over the other? PCL for art and PS for text? Does one typically require less RAM on the printer? Speed differences? For home use it doesn't matter and only professional print people will notice and care?   • Why cant i install ANY operating system??

    I tested the memory and i tested the hard disk and everything is fine! Mini XP booted from Hirens Boot Disk works :( I tried Windows 7, Windows XP SP3 and even Ubuntu 10.04 :( All Operating Systems boots up to the point where they can load necessary files to start the OS and then resets the laptop Windows 7, only up to the point where the Windows Loading Animation is happening Ubuntu, only up to the point where the loading is done, shows a small screen and then goes to a blinking cursor and thats it... it keeps on blinking and sometimes resets the computer Windows XP SP3, loads all the drivers and everything and then the point where i should be able install the OS, it simply resets the laptop :( I have used the word reset instead of restart because the laptop completely turns off and then only turns back in Any solutions would be greatly appreciated

  • Good references to know why has my computers stopped responding me

    Hello all! I´m a windows xp user (but not for much time...) and I usually see how my computer stop of responding me. The process is this: Firsly it became totally stopped or very slow for certain periods of 5 minutes. How could I do? After that it gets stopped (Even not totally because If I click on the bar I see a blinking response in the bar botton of the program I click on. It´s could be anything related with security (like the firewall or some virus)? Computer university: I usually experience this, using Matlab (R2007a) with System Generator (its respective compatible version) My personal laptop: It´s usually works well but when stopped periods became to appears I know in not much time it will became totally stopped. I usually see how Word 2007 get stopped and after a while my windows xp gets stopped. (well I can access to the the manage task pressing ctr+alt and...). The only solution I see is to kill program by program... My petition: Please, I need good references that help me how to think in order to avoid or to manage the problems previously described. Does anyone know usefull books or articles?   • Why does ganglia think my host is down?

    I have ganglia set up to monitor our staging server, it's working great but I'm confused by the definition of 'down' to ganglia. There's a single node, running gmetad, gmond and the web frontend, but some small percentage of the time the web frontend shows some confusing output. Despite the fact that it's a single server in the cluster, and that server is the one serving the web interface, the dashboard output insists that the host is down. Then below that it has a graph which shows 50% down, 50% up. You can see an example of this here: http://i.imgur.com/MCWaS.jpg There's obviously something confusing ganglia somewhere, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Unfortunately googling for any combination of 'ganglia' 'down' 'metric name' seems return nothing but other people's ganglia installations displaying the same nonsense. Any tips on where to start looking would be greatly appreciated

    I have configured an outgoing and incomign mail box settings in vtiger 5.04. I created a new marketing campain, added a contanct (lead) to it and try to send e-mail to that contact. When I clisk "send" I get "Please check the current user mailid. It should be a valid mailid to send Emails". But I configured everything!!! HELP!!!!

  • Why not install Msvcr71.dll into system32?

    While looking for an authoritative source for the missing Msvcr71.dll that is needed by a few old applications, I stumbled across the MSDN article Redistribution of the shared C runtime component in Visual C++. The advice given to developers is to drop the DLL into the application's directory instead of system32 since DLLs in this directory are considered before the system paths. What can/will go wrong if I (as an administrator, not a developer) decide to take the lazy path and install Msvcr71.dll (and Msvcp71.dll while I'm at it) into the system32 directory (of 32 bit Windows XP or Windows 7 systems) instead of putting a copy in each application's directory? Is there another good solution to provide the applications with the needed DLLs that doesn't involve copying stuff to the application directories?

  • Why ethernet cables must be ended with specific arrangement

    I just accepted that ethernet cables CAT 5 and more must be ended with specific arrangement. I learned when I ending my cables to take attention that either end must be in same arrangement(568A or 568B ). Sometime I get stacked with my fellow servant that they claim that Cable should work if just arrangement at both side are same even if it is not in 568A or 568B layouts. My experience said that it is not true, but I am now looking for some technical argument to prove that.

  • Why does VirtualBox want my attention every morning?

    I'm running Vista 64-bit Ultimate on this PC. On it, I've installed VirtualBox, and in that I'm running Linux. Everything's working great. I leave it running all the time. When I come in in the morning, every time, the "Sun VirtualBox" item in the Windows taskbar is bright orange, like it's trying to get my attention. What would cause this? I'm curious both if somebody has an idea of something VirtualBox might do that warrants this attention-grab, or what to look for in the VB logs to find out what causes this. I'm sure it's harmless, but I'd like to stop it if I can.

  • Why are my flash drives getting formatted?

    I've had two cheapie flash drive from Microcenter, and they booth out-of-the-blue became unformatted. When you insert then in the USB drive, windows says "The drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" And then it can't actually format it. Nothing happened to them physically. For one, it 'died' during a reset, and the other, it was normal and then it was dead once when I inserted it, IIRC. What's the deal? Are these just cheap, crappy drives, or what?

  • Why *do* windows print queues occasionally choke on a print job

    Y'know they way windows print queues will occasionally stop working with a print job at the head of the queue which just won't print and which you can't delete? Anyone know whats going on when this happens? I've been seeing this since the NT4 days and it still happens on 2008. I'm talking about standard IP connected laser printers - nothing fancy. I support a lot of servers and loads of workstations and see this happen a few times a year. The user will call saying they can't print. When you examine the print queue, which in my case will generally be a server based queue shared out to the workstations, you find a print job which you cannot cancel. You also can't pause it, reinitialize it, nothing. Stopping the spooler is the usual trick and works sometimes. However I occasionally see cases which even this doesn't cure and which a reboot is the only solution. Pause the queue, reboot, when it comes back up the job can then be deleted. Once gone the printer happily goes back to its normal state. No action is ever necessary on the printer. I regard having to reboot as last resort and don't like it. What on earth can be going on when stopping the process (spooler) and restarting it doesn't clear a problem? Its not linked to any manufacturer either. I've seen this on HPs, lexmark, canon, ricoh, on lasers, on plotters.... can't say I ever saw this on dot matrix. Anyone got any ideas as to what may be going on. Ian

  • Why is group write permission ignored in Ubuntu?

    I want my user to have full access to the local Apache root folder, and I also want the Apache user to have full access to the same folder. What I did was create a new group called DevGroup and I added my user and www-data there. Also I changed the permissions to 770 to allow full group access. But now it won't allow me or the Apache user any kind of access to the folder. Here is what I get with ls: drwxrwx--- 12 root DevGroup 4096 Sep 27 17:34 testFolder Which seems perfect but when I try as a user to access the file I get this: var/www$ ls testFolder/ ls: cannot open directory testFolder/: Permission denied Also when I try to access a page in the folder from a browser: [Thu Sep 27 17:47:16 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required '/var/www/testFolder/foo.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in Unknown on line 0 What's the problem and how can I fix it?

    Hi guys, i try and i try to find the bug in this script but i can't . Maybe some of you can give me a hint... Problem.     We are running windows server 2003.I log in as Administrator but I don't have any access rights. I tried to create a new Administrator account but when logging into that one I still face the same issue. Is there a problem with the Group Administrators? If so is there a way to restore it's default settings? Note: This problem started after I uninstalled the Active directory role from the server. Thanks in advance.

  • Why can't get more speed on iperf on windows xp

    I test my bandwith and throughput using iperf (jperf) on desktop PC with WinXP. I can't get more than 3Mbit/s outside until I change TCP Window size - about 84Kb is ok. but I can't force XP to use this value by default.. I try very many magic spells on Registry, use many TCP Optimisers - but nothing works. I will accept that that everything is ok, when I reboot the PC, run iperf and will see 18.1Mbit - like my Linux box standing very near my Windows XP Box. Is it possible?

  • Why we can change our IP address?

    I across some websites that offer change of our IP addresses. It says, we can surf net anonymously, including changing our IP address and location. Most of the softwares are not free, so I have not try it out yet. But my question is, so, IP addresses will no longer be unique or valid for identify which computer were sending/request the information? I though only the ISP can determine our IP, so we can change our IP from some commercial softwares huh? Case: If I change my IP address, I go to a website which is supposed to be banned by my country, will the ISP let me pass the check and I will be able to browse the website which should be blocked? another question: From what I know, if we want to go to certain website, here is the flow: My Computer = ISP = Website = ISP = My computer I am not sure, if its the correct flow, but I am sure that, whichever website I want to visit, I need to go through my ISP, isnt it?. So if we change out IP, our ISP will record our new IP or the original(assigned-by-ISP) IP? Sorry for my bad English.

  • Why doesn't Windows 7 allow me to format?

    Dell support can be fun to deal with right? Ultimately, I have been going back and forth with Dell on an issue and came to reinstalling Windows 7 32-Bit Pro. The problem is that Windows Setup will not let me format. I've read other posts that say Windows 7 must installed on first partition here. But now that confuses me because the computer came shipped with the installation on the third partion as shown in the picture below? Is there a real problem? Or is this a Microsoftism? Should I obliterate the "OEM" partition to make this work? Please note that the format, delete, new, and extend options are grayed out.

    Background: I have some unicode characters in my prompt (git status markers essentially) I'm running urxvt under xfce on arch linux. I'm using DejaVu Sans Mono for Powerline font, specified via .Xresources line: URxvt*font: xft:DejaVu Sans Mono for Powerline:pixelsize=14 When I start urxvt the unicode characters do not render correctly. For example ? renders as â However, if I then start a new urxvt from inside the first terminal everything renders correctly. There doesn't appear to be any difference in the environment between the two terminals. What could be the difference between the first invocation and the nested invocation?   • Can't connect to my FTP server, why?

    I have a windows 2008 server running with FTP 7 on IIS 7. I have it configured to connect as it is out of the box, with a particular user (lets say john) with read/write access. When I use my FileZilla client software, I can connect to the server as john just fine. No problems at all. However, when I try to connect using Windows Explorer or using the cmd prompt I get stone walled, saying "Login failed". My client machine is Windows Vista Ultimate. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
