  I'm trying to write life in F# using accelerator v2, but for some odd reason my output isn't square despite all my arrays being square - It appears that everything but a rectangular area in the top left of the matrix is being set to false. I've got no idea how this could be happening as all my operations should treat the entire array equally. • Javascript: Multiple mouseout events triggered

  I'm aware of the different event models in Javascript (the WC3 model versus the Microsoft model), as well as the difference between bubbling and capturing. However, after a few hours reading various articles about this issue, I'm still unsure how to properly code the following seemingly simple behavior: If I have an outer div and an inner div element, I want a single mouse-out event to be triggered when the mouse leaves the outer-div. When the mouse crosses from the inner-div to the outer-div, nothing should happen, and when the mouse crosses from the outer-div to the inner-div nothing should happen. The event should only fire if the mouse moves from the outer-div to the surrounding page. <div id="outer" style = "width:20em; height:20em; border:1px solid #F00" align = "center" onmouseout="alert('mouseout event!')" > <div id="inner" style = "width:18em; height:18em; border:1px solid #000"></div> </div> Now, if I place the "mouseout" event on the outer-div, two mouse-out events are fired when the mouse moves from the inner-div to the surrounding page, because the event fires once when the mouse moves from inner to outer, and then again when it moves from outer to the surrounding page. I know I can cancel the event using ev.stopPropagation(), so I tried registering an event handler with the inner-div to cancel the event propagation. However, this won't prevent the event from firing when the mouse moves from the outer-div to the inner-div. So, unless I'm overlooking something, it seems to me this behavior can't be accomplished without complex mouse-tracking functions. In the future, I plan to reimplement a lot of this code using a more advanced framework, like JQuery, but for now, I'm wondering if there is a simple way to implement the above behavior in regular Javascript.

If I print the argc argument, it's 14 for the second instance of runner.exe, and they are all weird stuff like Files\Microsoft, SQL, Files\Common and so on. I can't figure out why this happens. I want to be able to string as many runner.exe calls using command line arguments as possible, or at least 2. How can I do that? I am using Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

  I've seen several examples where Marshal.ReleaseComObject() is used with Excel Interop objects (i.e., objects from namespace Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel), but I've seen it used to various degrees. • Allow selection of readonly files from SaveFileDialog?

  I'm using Microsoft.Win32.SaveFileDialog in an app where all files are saved as readonly but the user needs to be able to choose existing files. The existing files being replaced are renamed eg: blah.png becomes blah.png-0.bak, blah.png-1.bak and so on. Thus, the language for the OverwritePrompt is inappropriate - we are not allowing them to overwrite files - so I'm setting dlog.OverwritePrompt = false; The initial filenames for the dialog are generated based on document values so for them, it's easy - we rename the candidate file in advance and if the user cancels or chooses a different name, rename it back again. When I delivered the feature, testers swiftly complained because they wanted to repeatedly save files with names different from the agreed workflow (those goofy, playful guys!). I can't figure out a way to do this with the standard dialogs, in a way that will run safely on both XP (for now) and Windows 7. • Steps to Investigate Cause of Web.Config Duplicate Section

  Symptoms In IIS Dot Net 2.0 Integrated app pool: double clicking to view any web.config section results in a the following error dialog. "There was an error while performing this operation.... Fielname... web.config... Error: There is a duplicate..." Browsing to the URL displays: "Http 500.19" internal server error.. There is a duplicate... 'system.web.extensions/scripting/scriptResourceHandler' section defined...." Running the app from VS 2008 an "Unable to start debugging on the web server..." dialog is displayed. Things Tried Looked at other application directories on same IIS server. No problem view web.config contents or serving up the app. Removed and re-added the application in IIS. Checked out a new version of the source code. Reverted to prior versions of the web.config file. Looked for web.config files that might have duplicate sections in: Inetpub root. "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config" The "Views" subfolder of the ASP.Net MVC app. Checked out source code to another dev machine. Setup IIS 7 app folder. No problem with Web.config. Question If the reason for this error is another web.config file where else should I look? Are there other reasons for these symptoms?

• Converting Makefile to Visual Studio Terminology Questions (First time using VS)

  I am an old Unix guy who is converting a makefile based project over to Microsoft Visual Studio, I got tasked with this because I understand the Makefile which chokes VS's automatic import tools. I am sure there is a better way than what I am doing but we are making things fit into the customer's environment and that is driving my choices. So gmake is not a valid answer, even if it is the right one ;-) I just have a couple of questions on terminology that I think will be easy for an experienced (or junior) user to answer. Presently, a make all will generate several executables and a shared library. How should I structure this? Is it one "solution" with multiple projects? There is a body of common code (say 50%) that is shared between the various executable targets that is not in a formal library, if that matters. I thought I could just set up the first executable and then add targets for the others, but that does not seem to work. I know I am working against the tool, so what is the right way? I am also using Visual C++ 2010 Express to try and do this so that may also be a problem if support for multiple targets is not supported without using Visual C++ 2010 (insert superlative). Thanks, this is really one of those questions that should be answerable by a quick chat with the resident Windows Developer at the water cooler. So, I am asking at the virtual water cooler, I also spring for a virtual frosty beverage after work.

  I'm trying to POST a http request using ajax, but getting a response from the apache server using modsec_audit that: "POST request must have a Content-Length header." I do not want to disable this in modsec_audit. This occurs only in firefox, and not IE. Further, I switched to using a POST rather than a GET to keep IE from caching my results. • How can I catch an invalid fgetpos call as a C++ exception on Windows?

  In Visual C++ 2008, I want to "catch" an exception generated as shown here: try { int foo = 20; ::fgetpos(0, (fpos_t*)&foo); } //... Here are adjustments I've made to attempt a successful catch: SEH is activated (/eha) I've added a catch(...) I've added a _set_se_translator vector. I've added/adjusted to SEH syntax: __try / __except(EXCEPTION_EXECUTE_HANDLER) In short, I've tried "everything in the book" and I still can't catch the exception. If I replace the call to ::fgetpos with int hey = foo / 0 then suddenly all of the above techniques work as expected. So the exception I'm dealing with from ::fgetpos is somehow "extra special." Can someone explain why this ::fgetpos error seems uncatchable, and how to work around it? update When executed in the VS IDE, the output window doesn't name an exception. All it says is this: Microsoft Visual Studio C Runtime Library has detected a fatal error in MyProgram.exe. Not very helpful. When I run the console app from the command line, I get a crash dialogue.   Hi, I've written a dummy http server as an exercise in F#. I'm using Mono 2.4.4 on Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64, with MonoDevelop. The following code fails to compile with the error: Error FS0039: The field, constructor or member 'Spawn' is not defined (FS0039) Could someone try this in VisualStudio please, I don't know whether this is a Mono problem, or my problem. I have tried several Async examples from the F# book, and they also all produce similar messages about Async.* methods. • ASP.Net Response Filter Causing SharePoint 2010 "Unexpected Error"

  Hello everyone, I'm debugging an HttpModule with an ASP.NET response filter. This dynamically rewrites portions of rendered SharePoint WCM pages. The publishing pages render fine in SP2007 on both Server 2003 and Server 2008. However the equivalent pages fail to render in SP2010 B2 on Server 2008 R2. The generic "An unexpected error has occurred message" page is displayed. This error only happens when the response filter is applied to an .aspx page. Other page types, such as .css, render fine on this platform. This error also happens when the response filter does not modify the page at all (pure pass-through). This KB article seems very closely related: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2014472. However, this same error occurs with caching disabled. I see no related entries in any of the following: ULS for SP, Event Log, Failed Request Tracing (IIS7). Running under the debugger suggests that the custom code is not raising any exceptions. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

  I'm getting a formatting problem if I use more than 10 UNION ALL statements in my VBA Code. If I use 10 or less everything works great. What I'm trying to do is combine 12 worksheets (Excel 2007). I have a numerical column called SC that turns into string and date if I have more than 10 UNION ALL. If I try to use ROUND with more than 10 UNION ALL my last selection will change all the records by one unit. I'm using Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 as my provider and my connection string has worked for several things in my code so far. Is there any limit for UNION ALL statements when using OLEDB?   I created the ItemGroup shown in the code snippet. I need to iterate through this ItemGroup and run the EXEC command - also shown in the code snippet. I cannot seem to get it to work. The code returns the error shown below (note - the Message is written 2 times, which is correct), but the EXEC Command is not running correctly. The value is not being set; therefore the EXEC is not executing at all. I need the EXEC to execute twice or by however sections I define in the ItemGroup.   I am a relative newbie when it comes to SQL Azure!! I was wondering if there was a definitive list somewhere regarding what is and is not supported by SQL Azure in regards to SQL Server 2008? Multi-part views I've been using SQL Azure Migration Wizard v3.1.8 to migrate local databases into the cloud. I was wondering if anyone could point to a list or give me any information till when these features are likely to be included in SQL Azure.

• Force an ASP.NET 3.5 WebSite to use version 1.0.61025.0 of System.Web.Extensions

  I just upgraded my Web Site project from 2.0 to 3.5 to take advantage of the TimeZoneInfo class. When I did this, I started getting an ambiguous assembly error (*see below). The problem is, I'm not using ScriptManager, an old version of SyncFusion is. I can't upgrade SyncFusion right now, so I need to tell ASP.NET to use version 1.0.61025.0 of the assembly. • Key strokes in wpf window hosted in MFC ActiveX running in Internet Explorer

  We have an MFC ActiveX control created in Visual Studio 2008 with CLR support which creates a WPF grid and shows a WPF window within that grid. This ActiveX is hosted within Internet Explorer and it shows up and works nicely except that the tab key, backspace, function keys etc. does not work since they are handeled by IE instead of the WPF window. Regular characters works nicely. This is a known feature and previously when we used to have MFC based dialogs within this ActiveX we used this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187988. By just using this code directly the AfxGetApp()->PreTranslateMessage((LPMSG)lParam) statement will return FALSE, so I'm not able to get the key stroke to be handled by the WPF window. I beleive I need to ask the WPF application this instead of the CWinApp, but I'm not sure how and if this can be done. Does anyone have enough understanding of what's going on here to get this to work? Using XBAP instead of ActiveX is not an option as this is run in an intranet application which needs more access than the sandbox can give us. I hope this is enough information. • How do I disable the network connection from .Net without needing admin priveledges?

  I may be SOL on this but I thought I would give throw it out for possible solutions. I am writing a computer access control service to help me control my kids' computer use. Plan on open sourcing it when I have it working. It is written in VB.Net and needs to work on XP through 7. I am running into all sorts of security and desktop access issues on Windows 7. The service needs to run as admin to execute the NetSh command to disable the network. But I cannot interact with the desktop from the service so I IPC to a UI to handle other stuff, but I still cannot detect from the service if the desktop is locked. Argghh! I could get it all working from a hidden windows form app if I could just lick the one piece that needs admin permissions: disabling the network. It does no good if a kid logs on and denies the popup asking if the program should run as administrator and he says no. Also windows 7 will not start a program set to run as admin using HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Anyone know how to get this working? Or have an outside the box solution? Thanks! Brad

  My web app uses the sql memebership provider. Running it locally all is well, deploying to a dev server it works fine too in firefox, but in IE8 something unexpected is happening. Once a user logs in they're supposed to be redirected to home.aspx. What's happening when I attempt to login is it appears to accept the login credentials but then doesn't redirect to home.aspx. Instead it just redirects me to the login page as though I had attempted to access home.aspx directly without being logged in. The url parameter ReturnUrl is appended, Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fhome.aspx Why is this only happening with IE8? My local PC is IIS7 but the server is IIS6.
