• UserControl Focus Issue - Focus() sometimes returns false

  I have a user control that behaves similar to a tab control. The tab headers are UserControls that override Paint events to make them look custom. In order to leverage the Validating events on various controls on our tab pages, when the user clicks on the tab headers, we set the Focus to the TabHeader user control. I've noticed that Control.Focus() returns false sometimes but the documentation does not say why Control.Focus() will ever return false other than that the control can't receive focus. But I don't know why. Here's what i see. If my TabHeader UserControl does not contain any subcontrols, and I call myControl.Focus() from the MouseClick event, focus returns true. If my TabHeader UserControl contains a subcontrol, and I call myControl.Focus() from the MouseClick event, focus returns false. If my TabHeader UserControl contains a subcontrol, and I call myControl.subControl.Focus() from the myControl.MouseClick event, focus returns true. Can someone explain this?

  I am writing a C# windows service that is doing some churning through the eventlog on a few domain controllers. Some of them are Windows Server 2003 and some are Windows Server 2008. Upon the service stopping I am attempting to resume where I left off in the logs. In order to do this instead of SELECT * FROM Win32_NTLogEvent WHERE --criteria for events I am looking for I am doing SELECT * FROM Win32_NTLogEvent WHERE TimeGenerated = --some date AND --criteria for events I am looking for At one point I was convinced that the TimeGenerated field was in the local time of the server but now it seems that the Windows 2008 Servers are using GMT to record that time. Can anyone shed some light on if this is a real different between the way the two operating systems function or is this a configuration problem?

• UML assignment question

  Hi guys, Sorry, I know this is a very lame question to ask and not of any use to anyone else. I have an assignment in UML due tomorrow and I don't even know the basics (all-nighter ahead!). I'm not looking for a walkthrough, I simply want your opinion on something. The assignment is as follows (you only need to skim over it!): ============= Gourmet Surprise (GS) is a small catering firm with five employees. During a typical weekend, GS caters fifteen events with twenty to fifty people each. The business has grown rapidly over the past year and the owner wants to install a new computer system for managing the ordering and buying process. GS has a set of ten standard menus. When potential customers call, the receptionist describes the menus to them. If the customer decides to book an event (dinner, lunch, picnic, finger food etc.), the receptionist records the customer information (e.g., name, address, phone number, etc.) and the information about the event (e.g., place, date, time, which one of the standard menus, total price) on a contract. The customer is then faxed a copy of the contract and must sign and return it along with a deposit (often a credit card or by check) before the event is officially booked. The remaining money is collected when the catering is delivered. Sometimes, the customer wants something special (e.g., birthday cake). In this case, the receptionist takes the information and gives it to the owner who determines the cost; the receptionist then calls the customer back with the price information. Sometimes the customer accepts the price, other times, the customer requests some changes that have to go back to the owner for a new cost estimate. Each week, the owner looks through the events scheduled for that weekend and orders the supplies (e.g., plates) and food (e.g., bread, chicken) needed to make them. The owner would like to use the system for marketing as well. It should be able to track how customers learned about GS, and identify repeat customers, so that GS can mail special offers to them. The owner also wants to track the events on which GS sent a contract, but the customer never signed the contract and actually booked a GS. Exercise: Create an activity diagram and a use case model (complete with a set of detail use case descriptions) for the above system. Produce an initial domain model (class diagram) based on these descriptions. Elaborate the use cases into sequence diagrams, and include any state diagrams necessary. Finally use the information from these dynamic models to expand the domain model into a full application model. ============= In your opinion, do you think this question is asking me to come up with a package for an online ordering system to replace the system described above, or to create UML diagrams that facilitate the existing telephone-based system?

  I have a problem with the mapping of Oracle Float double precision datatype to Java Double datatype. The hibernate schema validator seems to fail when the Java Double datatype is used. org.hibernate.HibernateException: Wrong column type in DB.TABLE for column amount. Found: float, expected: double precision The only way to avoid this is to disable schema validation and hope the schema is in sync with the app about to run. I must fix this before it goes out to production. App's evironment: - Grails 1.2.1 - Hibernate-core 3.3.1.GA - Oracle 10g

• How to support 3-byte UTF-8 Characters in ANT

  I am trying to support UTF-8 characters in my ANT script. As long as the character string are made up of 2-byte UTF-8 characters, such as: Lògìñ Ùsèr ÌÐ Then things work fine. When I use Unicode Han Character: ? Which, according to this site: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/6211/index.htm Has a UTF-8 encoding of 0xE6 0x88 0x91 I can see in UltraEdit, my input properties file has the values "E6 88 91" all in a row, so I'm fairly confident that my input is correct. And When I open the same file in Notepad++ I can see all the characters correctly.   I have a schedule table I'm using jQuiry Sortable for editing. Each day is a UL, and each event is an LI. My jQuery is: $("#colSun, #colMon, #colTue, #colWed, #colThu").sortable({ connectWith: '.timePieces', items: 'li:not(.lith)' }).disableSelection(); To make all LI's sortable except those with class "lith" (day names). User can drag an event from day to day, or add new events by clicking a button, which appends a new dragable event (LI) to the fist UL (Sunday). I want to make each day accept only up to 10 events. The application have a good internet connection and there is no problem reaching the app server-side api. I see in analytics that lots of startups and click-events the past few days are lost, even I know the traffic is normal since i can see statistics from the the server api. In the analytics reports I see a day by day under-reporting. So the problems seems to be spreading/growing to all the devices using this application. Im wondering why google does not answer this in their mail-groups - several people have complained about this...well, well... I found this thread relevant: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/682560/java-net-socketexception-broken-pipe But, I'm still not sure if there is anything I can do to fix it or not. If there is nothing I can do to fix it, I guess its not my fault that it got broken. But i got a feeling it is, since the problem got dramatically worse on the last deploy to Android market. • Delphi 2010 buttons losing click event

  I've been experimenting a quite strange problem using Delphi 2010. In one form (a quite complex one) some buttons are automagically losing the click event. I am not dynamically assigning the event or something (they are wired in IDE). The events are fired OK some times but suddenly (and randomly) some of them don't fire the events anymore. Placing a break point in the event doesn't stop the execution. Weird, yes, and I'm lost. I know there is no explanation for this so I only want to ask if there is anybody else experimenting the same problem.

• Ext GWT (GXT) tooltip over a grid row

  I'm developing a custom tooltip using Ext GWT (GXT) for a project of mine, and this tooltip has to appear over Grid rows when they're selected. I can't use the default GXT tooltip or quicktip because I need be able to add Components (like buttons) to this tooltip. The problem is that the GXT Grid component doesn't expose a event related to mousing over a row (although there's RowClick and RowMouseDown). I tried adding a listener to the Grid with the OnMouseOver and OnMouseOut events anyway, but it doesn't work as expected. It fires these events up whenever you mouse over any of the divs and spans that composes a row. The only way I see to solve this is to subclass the GridView component and make each row become a Component itself, but that would be a lot of work and would probably impact performance as well. I can't help but think there's a better way to do this. Could someone more experienced with GXT give me a light?

• Flex HTTPService security error using Safari

  I'm using the HTTPService object in actionscript to send some data to a php file on another server which then inserts the data to a database. I set up the crossdomain.xml file in the root of the directory that contains the php file to get around any security issues. Everything works fine on Firfox 3.5 (on mac and pc) and on IE 7 & 8. When testing on Safari 4 I get an error which would be expected when a crossdomain.xml doesn't exist. But when I'm using the release build configuration the program freezes for around two seconds efter the loader sends the progress events and before sending the complete event. BUT... choice of word "Event" to mean a "calendar entry" was particularly unfortunate This is a wonderfully well-written plug in, and I've really impressed people here at work with what this thing can do. The documentation is astonishingly thorough and clear. Congratulations to Adam! HOWEVER, this plug-in refers to entries in the calendar as "Events" -- this has caused a lot of confusion in my development team's conversations, because when we use the word "Event" we think of things like onmouseover, click, etc. We would really prefer a term like CalendarEvent or CalendarEntry. I am not all that experienced with jQuery yet, so am wondering if there is a simple way to alias one of those terms to this plug-in's Event/Events object? (I know we could recode the plug-in directly, but our code will then break when we download an update.) Thanks!

How would you insert the DOCTYPE declaration, preferably by specifying it on the parser (similar to how you can set the schema for a document that will be parsed) or by inserting the necessary SAX events via an XMLFilter or the like? I've found many references to EntityResolver, but that is what's invoked once a DOCTYPE is found during parsing and it's used to point to a local DTD file. EntityResolver2 appears to have what I'm looking for but I haven't found any examples of usage.   I was wondering if data types in a a literal "create table" statement, executed over ODBC, are replaced with their database specific counterparts (platform is Windows/.Net/C#). I cannot find this feature in the ODBC docs, and there seems to be no list of literal "ODBC data types". However, I know that this works for Oracle, SQL Server and Access; the following statement is executed correctly, although the type LONGVARBINARY is no native type in all of these systems: CREATE TABLE (MYCOLUMN LONGVARBINARY) However, e.g. for Oracle the mapped native type depends on the used ODBC driver. Is this an undocumented feature? Is there a list of supported type names anywhere? Thanks!

  Specifically, I want to have my grails app under development to connect to an Oracle db defiined by an tnsnames.ora file. I have the tnsnames.ora file located in c:\drivers\Network\ on my PC. When I run the grails app via "grails run-war", the db connection string defined in the tnsnames.ora file doesn't seem to be picked up: grails prod run-war -Dserver.port=62215 -Doracle.net.tns_admin=C:\drivers\Netowrk\ It seems the name-value pair of oracle.net.tns_admin is not being passed to the JVM used by the the embedded Tomcat that comes with Grails 1.2.0. If not, what is the proper way of specify it, or pass any JAVA_OPTS to the underlying JVM?

  Hi, I have a media server logging to a mysql database and it records a seperate row for each connect, play, stop, disconnect event.
