And use it to get rid of dynamic memory allocation (I know array sizes already, and there will be a few child-classes with different constants). • Why do I get CA1811 when I call a private method from a public method in C++/CLI?

  I've recently upgraded my project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. By enabling Code Analysis and building on Release, I'm getting warning CA1811: Avoid uncalled private code. I've managed to reduce the code to this: .h file: public ref class Foo { public: virtual System::String^ ToString() override; private: static System::String^ Bar(); }; .cpp file: String^ Foo::ToString() { return Bar(); } String^ Foo::Bar() { return "abc"; } The warning I get: CA1811 : Microsoft.Performance : 'Foo::Bar(void)' appears to have no upstream public or protected callers. It doesn't matter if Bar() is static or not. I've tried to reproduce it in C# but I can't. I can only reproduce it in C++/CLI. Why do I get this warning? Is this a Visual Studio 2010 bug?

  I recently used a solution to the one-thread-at-a-time problem whe using Jlayer to play mp3 songs in Java. But this solution by Kaleb Brasee didn't hint at how you could stop the player, i.e how could one then call player.close()? Kaleb's code was: Executor executor = Executors.newSingleThreadExecutor(); executor.execute(new Runnable() { public void run() { /* do something */ } }); and this is the code I put in run() if(player != null) player.close(); try{ player = new Player(new FileInputStream(musicD.getPath())); player.play(); }catch(Exception e){} The problem is that much as this solves the problem of keeping the gui active while the music plays (in only one other thread -- what i'd wanted), I can't start playing another song :-( What could I do?

  Let's say I have a C# method public void CheckXYZ(int xyz) { // do some operation with side effects } Elsewhere in the same class is another method public int GetCheckedXYZ(int xyz) { int abc; // functionally equivalent operation to CheckXYZ, // with additional side effect of assigning a value to abc return abc; // this value is calculated during the check above } Is it necessarily bad style to refactor this by removing the CheckXYZ method, and replacing all existing CheckXYZ() calls with GetCheckedXYZ(), ignoring the return value? The returned type isn't IDisposable in this case. Does it come down to discretion?

I want these elements to change color whenever the mouse cursor hovers over them, so I implemented hoverEnterEvent (and hoverLeaveEvent): void MyGraphicsItem::hoverEnterEvent(QGraphicsSceneHoverEvent* event) { update (boundingRect()); } However, this event handler code is never executed. I've simplified the case to this: <asp:CheckBox ID="TestCheckBox" runat="server" onclick="alert('test');" Text="Test" /> The resulting HTML is as follows: <input id="MainContainer_TestCheckBox" type="checkbox" name="ctl00$MainContainer$TestCheckBox" onclick="alert(&#39;test&#39;);" /><label for="MainContainer_TestCheckBox">Test</label> What particularly bothers me is that a single quote 'automatically' gets converted into '&#39;'. Take a look at this code: public void SerializeToXML(String FileName) { XmlSerializer fSerializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Configuration)); using (Stream fStream = new FileStream(FileName, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None)) { fSerializer.Serialize(fStream, this); } } The problem is that when the user does not have rights to the location on hard disk, this function will not throw me any exception and do not save my file. For example saving to "C:\test.xml" act like nothing happened. And I would like to know if the file has not been saved and it would be good to know the reason why. I know that I could check if the file on given location exists and throw an exception manualy but shouldn't this be done by the XmlSerializer or FileStream itself? Thanks for your time

I think that generally this result is inpossible. please Let me know if you have any information about sound power on CoreAudio. thanks.

• Looking for Google Reader javscript commands for controlling events

  I've played in the /reader/ui/ code for a few hours now, and couldn't figure this out. Also, I didn't see any exact help when searching StackOverflow. This is really a JavaScript un-obfuscator question. I'm looking for a way to call the obfuscated Google Reader javascript commands... and am having trouble determining what actual function is called when the "Next Items" button is pressed or the spacebar is hit. I've tried using Firebug as well as FireEvents to track it down, but it's just too well hidden. Any ideas? Something that I could type into the URL bar and make it run, something like 'javascript:SH("entries-down", "click");void(0);' Thanks in advance! And, please let me know if it's against Google's terms of service to de-obfuscate their code to view these JavaScript commands.

  I have a class in C# with a template and static method similar to class BClass<T> { public static BClass<T> Create() { return new BClass<T>(); } } From this I derive a class and specify a template parameter to the base class class DClass : BClass<int> { } A problem occurs when I try to use the static method to create an instance of D class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { DClass d = DClass.Create(); } } Gives a compiler error "Cannot implicitly convert type 'Test.BClass<int ' to 'Test.DClass'." Adding the below cast leads to a runtime casting exception. DClass d = (DClass)DClass.Create(); Is there any succint way to allow the static method to create instances of the derived class? • Strange Java Coding??? Class in class???

  Hi guys, I got a question about Java coding in general... In some sample codes there are methods and classes declared WITHIN other methods and/or classes.... I've never heard/red about this...what effect does this kind of programming have? Wouldn't it be better to write down classes in a seperate file and methods side by side and not within each other (like every book tells you)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this kind of programming?
