• Open source framework à la Microsoft Sync Framework suggestions?

  We are implementing a warehouse management system atop an open source stack (Java, web services & friends). In this system, we want to integrate many mobile devices which should also be capable of adequate online/offline functionality, e.g. preparing database inserts while a mobile device is temporarily unconnected, and performing them on the backend database when reconnected. For a .NET stack, Microsoft Sync Framework would be a perfect solution, e.g. to do database replication and hoarding. Can anyone suggest an open source alternative to the MS Sync Framework and possibly describe his experiences with it? Thanks in advance for any answers.

  I am trying to add an entity to the DB. Once I have added it, I want to detach it, so I can manipulate the object safely without making any changes to the DB. After calling context.SaveChanges() I do the following to detach the entity: // save context.Stories.Add(story); // attach tags. They already exists in the database foreach(var tag in story.Tags) context.Entry(tag).State = System.Data.EntityState.Unchanged; context.SaveChanges(); context.Entry(story).State = System.Data.EntityState.Detached; However, changing the entity state to DETACHED will remove all related entities associated with the my entity. Is there a way to stop this ? If I don't detach the entity, all my changes are sent to the DB next time I call context.SaveChanges() Thanks!!

• Error after switching from .NET 3.5 to 4

  Application.Run(new Main()); This line gives TypeInitializationException was unhandled after I switched from 3.5 to 4 framework. Why is this? Edit: Forgot to mention this is a Winforms C# application. Okay so I have SQLite .NET referenced. I tried this on a project created on .NET 4 by default and didn't give me any error so I assumed it wasn't about SQLite .NET http://sqlite.phxsoftware.com/ Please note v2.0.50727 this is the runtime version of the DLL which seems to be causing the problem.   I have a ListView control set up in details mode, and on a button press I would like to retrieve all column values from that row in the ListView. • Using GitHub with another Bug-tracker?

  I am involved in this project, Pinta, and we are currently using GitHub for our development. We all love Git and GitHub and want to keep using it. However, now the project is getting stable and involved, and it's time we started using a more capable bug tracking system than GitHub's simple issue tracker. We also want to start doing GetText based translations. We are looking at Launchpad which has both a nice bug tracker and translation manager, but we want to keep using GitHub for development. I'm worried that these will not integrate well, and it will make development harder. Has anyone used GitHub with another bug tracking system and had any success? Any recommendations?

• Very simple test view in MonoTouch draws a line using Core Graphics but view content is not shown

  Hi, I give up now on this very simple test I've been trying to run. I want to add a subview to my window which does nothing but draw a line from one corner of the iPhone's screen to the other and then, using touchesMoved() it is supposed to draw a line from the last to the current point. The issues: 1. Already the initial line is not visible. 2. When using Interface Builder, the initial line is visible, but drawRect() is never called, even if I call SetNeedsDisplay(). It can't be that hard...can somebody fix the code below to make it work? • Front-end phtml template form doesn't connect to controller.php file

  The web system which I'm working on right now, has a add.phtml (in views folder) form, which contain normal form elements and pageController.php (in Controller folder) file which has function to be connected when user hit "add page" button on the form.   How to I get my security policy working? My parent swf parses an XML doc and loads 2 children. It throws a 2148 security error, and only works in the Flash IDE. I Also published my parent swf as 'network only' and put all the crossdomain.xml and everything else in the same folder. • C# - .WAV Playback Randomly High Pitch

  For some reason, when a WAV file is played back using the snippet below, it randomly plays back screwy, like a high pitch noise. It doesn't happen all the time, just randomly. It seems to happen more often when it is played back more frequently. The WAV properties are below along with the code snippet I am using. WAV Properties: Bit Rate - 750kbps Audio Sample Size - 16 bit Channels - 1 (mono) Audio Sample Rate - 44kHz Audio Format - PCM Snippet: System.Media.SoundPlayer myPlayer = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(Captcha.Properties.Resources.sound1); myPlayer.Play(); Is this because of the way I am playing the file or the file itself?   For our first assignment in a System Security class, we have to hack into the professors "cheaply organized" sql database. I know the only user is "admin" and the select statement generated in the php is: select user_id from user where user_username = 'admin' AND user_password = md5('noob') I am having a number of problems attempting to bypass the password part of this statement as the professor has some javascript embedded in the page to sanitize the username and password of any non-alphanumeric values. This can be bypassed by turning off javascript :P but any values sent still get cleaned by the operating system (some build of Debian 32-bit). I've seen the code for the login request and it does not escape any characters. How do I bypass the operating systems escape sequences?

  Just for fun I was creating a JavaScript console for controlling my PC. It involves a small webserver that takes command strings and forwards those to the system using popen calls (to be more specific popen4 on a Ruby mongrel server). The stdout channels are redirected to the http response. The problem is that the response only arrives once the entire contents of stdout has been sent. This is ok for small commands, but not for a command like find / which lists all the files in the system. In such situations it would be nice to have the results shown progressively in the webview (just like in the regular terminal). I thought that using XMLHttpRequest synchronously might result in progressive downloading, but it doesn't seem so. Is there any way to make it work?

• Ensuring all waiting threads complete

  I'm building a system where the progress of calling threads is dependent on the state of two variables. One variable is updated sporadically by an external source (separate from the client threads) and multiple client threads block on a condition of both variables. The system is something like this TypeB waitForB() { // Can be called by many threads. synchronized (B) { while (A <= B) { B.wait(); } A = B; return B; { } void updateB(TypeB newB) { // Called by one thread. synchronized (B) { B.update(newB); B.notifyAll(); // All blocked threads must receive new B. } } I need all the blocked threads to receive the new value of B once it has been updated. But the problem is once a single thread finishes and updates A, the waiting condition becomes true again so some of the other threads become blocked and don't receive the new value of B. Is there a way of ensuring that only the last thread that was blocked on B updates A, or another way of getting this behaviour?

• c++ normalizing data sizes across systems

  I have a struct with three variables: two unsigned ints and an unsigned char. From my understanding, a c++ char is always 1 byte regardless of what operating system it is on. The same can't be said for other datatypes. I am looking for a way to normalize POD's so that when saved into a binary file, the resulting file is readable on any operating system that the code is compiled for. I changed my struct to use a 1-byte alignment by adding #pragma as follows: #pragma pack(push, 1) struct test { int a; } #pragma pack(pop) but that doesn't necessarily mean that int a is exactly 4 bytes on every os, I don't think? Is there a way to ensure that a file saved from my code will always be readable?

  Hi all, I am implementing a view system and I want to keep track of all the dirty rects. It seems my dirty rect management is a bottleneck for the whole system. On one hand, invalidating the bounding box of the dirty region seems to be an easy approach. But in the situation like this: Say I have a client area of 100x100; I have a dirty rect with (0, 0, 1, 1) and another dirty rect with (99, 99, 1, 1). Invalidating the bounding box which turns out to be 100x100 is not efficient at all. So I want to ask if someone can give any hint or give me a link of the related literatures. Thanks in advance!
