Now I specify a directory name for "appBase" attribute on "{TomcatHome}/config/server.xml". <host appBase="d:/aaa"> <Context docBase="d:/aaa/bbb"> </Context> </host> When I navigate URL to "http://localhost:8080", TOMCAT think "d:/aaa/ROOT" as application directory. I want to know how can I modify this mechanism to make TOMCAT auto search my specified directory. Referencing file on disk from NSManagedObject

Hello, What would be the best way to name a file associated to a NSManagedObject. The NSManagedObject will hold the URL to this file. But I need to create a unique filename for my file. Is there some kind of autoincrement id that I could use? Should I use mktemp (but it's not a temporary file) or try to convert the NSManagedObjectId to a filename? but I fear there will be special characters which might cause problem. What would you suggest?

CSS layout changes in Internet explorer

My problem: I just coded a website that is styled just fine in chrome and firefox. However in internet explorer(9) it breaks. the gray header background is supposed to be pushed up to the right of the logo block, and the buttons are supposed to be in the dark grey area. I posted my code. I'm no expert at css, any tips would be greatly appreciated. where do i put html files in my web-app folder for a lift project with maven?

I'm new to Lift framework for scala. For some reason, index.html resides in the web-app directory, and when I start up jetty, http://localhost:8080/ will point to that index.html file just fine. However, if I put a login.html file in the same folder as the index.html, and then go http://localhost:8080/login, Lift does not serve the file. Where do I need to put the files to get them register? I am a little lost because the behaviour only seems to work for index.html and nothing else. Confirmation box pops up more than once using ajax

I'm using Ajax to delete records and display an animated message (function display_message) when this record is deleted, but I noticed that the confirmation box pops up depending on the number of records. for example if I have 2 records in my list and I want to delete on of them.The confirmation box pops up twice before deleting and the same thing happen with the message, It appears twice(I'm using a message that fade in and out), and so on(3 records - 3 pops up, etc). I tried a lot to resolve it but I haven't succeed . I want to extract some links from a XML document (links are in same format as on html pages). Now for eg a link is "http://xyz.com/start/tyu/a.html" and another is "http://ert.com/tyu/b.html" while a third link is "http://asdf.com/ghjk/c.html" From the above 3 links (which I have with me using a for clause in a FLWOR expression)...I want only the links which contain within them a string "tyu" to be selected-- I thought of using substring for this, but substring requires start and end positions to be specified- whereas in my scenario, I dont know at which position the desired string will be. How do I do substring matching in such a scenario, i.e. where exact position for occurrence of substring, is not known? I can use XQuery 1.0 for this purpose. Finally, I want to extract the link URL, as well as link text...

How do I protect Dynamic data pages using ASP.NET Authentication?

I have a site where most of my pages are arranged in business area folders, e.g. Activations, Outdoors, Branding. Each folder has a small web.config that protects the contents against access by people without a role for that business area. However, basic admin for most business areas is done via Dynamic Data pages. These are only basically protected by not appearing in the menu unless the user has the correct role, but they are still accessible directly via URL, because of the {table}/{Action} routing used by Dynamic Data. What can I do to protect these pages against direct access?

Favicon to PNG in PHP

I need a PHP script to convert favicons to PNGs while keeping their original dimensions. I know Google has it's secret icon converter - http://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=http://facebook.com/ but this converts favicons to 16x16 even if they they were originally larger. So basically I need this, minus the shrinking effect. I've also seen this - http://www.controlstyle.com/articles/programming/text/php-favicon/ but I couldn't get it to work after hours of messing around with it. Basically I am trying to automatically grab the icon for a link that will be as large as possible - automatically 48x48 png based on a URL would be the perfect scenario, but I don't know of any humanly possible way to do this given that no websites happen to keep a 48x48 icon in a publicly accessible spot. Does anybody know of a script/service or have a suggestion? Thanks!

spring json writes more json then i want

I am using the json spring view in order to return a simple JSON object from my controller. The problem is that its returning more data then i want. it is returning the validation errors and things inside of my model when all i am doing is this in the controller: Map model = new HashMap() model.put("success", "true"); return new ModelAndView("jsonView", model); If you look at the bottom of this page in the docs it looks like i am getting back data that POST would return. i am not doing a post, i am doing a GET by going directly to the URL with params. How do i get this lib to return just the data in my model?

IE6 background appears-disappears on scrolling

Hi, Given IE6, an UL-LI list and a background image for the UL container. <style> ul {background-image: url(images/bgr.png);} </style> ... <ul> <li>...</li> ... </ul> When I load the page, the background is randomly loaded, some parts are visible, some are not. Moreover, it changes on runtime when I'm scrolling on the page. When I scroll out the UL list and scroll back, different parts of the background will be visible, depends on the speed of scrolling. .htaccess not working in subfolder

Hello, I have a couple of sites that are currently under development and I've put them under a specific subfolder for clients/co-workers to view - "http://dev.staffanestberg.com/site-name/". I've run into some problems getting the sites working with .htaccess. I can reach the index page by typing in the url for a site folder but neither img/style/js/etc linking or page rewriting works. Looking for a solution to this, Apache's "RewriteBase" seems to be the most likely one, however I can't get it to work. Tried RewriteBase http://dev.staffanestberg.com/site-name/ RewriteBase /site-name What would be the correct method? Thanks in advance, -Staffan

Adding RESTful route to Rails app

I'm reading these two pages resources Adding more RESTful actions The Rails Guides page shows map.resources :photos, :new => { :upload => :post } And its corresponding URL /photos/upload This looks wonderful. My routes.rb shows this map.resources :users, :new => { :signup => :get, :register => :post } When I do: [~/my_app]$ rake routes I see the two new routes added signup_new_user GET /users/new/signup(.:format) register_new_user POST /users/new/register(.:format) Note the inclusion of /new! I don't want that. I just want /users/signup and /users/register (as described in the Rails Routing Guide). Any help?

Using type hints in Clojure for Java return values

I'm working on some Java / Clojure interoperability and came across a reflection warning for the following code: (defn load-image [resource-name] (javax.imageio.ImageIO/read (.getResource (class javax.imageio.ImageIO) resource-name))) => Reflection warning, clojure/repl.clj:37 - reference to field read can't be resolved. I'm surprised at this because getResource always returns a URL and I would therefore expect the compiler to use the appropriate static method in javax.imageio.ImageIO/read. The code works fine BTW so it is clearly finding the right method at run time. So two questions: Why is this returning a reflection warning? What type hint do I need to fix this?

How do i style a JSON feed in my view?

My rails app gets the following JSON feed from mixcloud and sticks the results into my index page At the moment when I do this, the entire contents of my feed are displayed unformatted in one big blob of scary looking text (without the curly JSON brackets) I only want to display specific values from the feed in the view. From the feed in question lets say for simplicity that I just wanted to display all values with a key of "url" In case I'm doing something wrong here's my code: # podcast controller def index # I'm using a class method to get the feed @feed = Podcast.feed end # podcast model def self.feed feed = JSON.parse(open("http://api.mixcloud.com/alivefrommaryhill/feed").read) end # index.html.haml .feed = @feed I can't figure out how to style the results and display only certain items from the feed. How to gather usage statistics for iPhone app?

I am in the process of releasing my first iPhone app. It's a simple utility, I'd just like to gauge the release process, app lifetime and trends, just so it can help make more realistic choices in future apps. I think it would be nice to have usage statistics in addition to download stats from Apple. For example, how many times is the app opened by each user, what iPhone OS version do they have, etc. I think some of it would simply be to try and connect to a known URL on one of my domains, passing it anonymous information (let's say, connect to http://mydomain.net/stats?app=myApp&version=1.0.0&os=3.1.2&used=18). My questions are: is that forbidden in any way by Apple's rules? (none that I could find, at least) does that seem reasonable to you? are there existing frameworks that would do that simpler/better that writing my own code?

How do I track images embedded in HTML?

Hi, I'd like to track the views/impressions of images on web pages, but still allow the images to be embedded in HTML, like in the "img src="http://mysite.com/upload/myimage.jpg"/" element. I know in Windows I can write a handler for ".jpg" so the URL will actually trigger a handling function instead of loading the images from disk. Is it possible to do that in python/django on Ubuntu server? Can web browser still cache the jpg files if it is not a straight file path? It looks to me that this is how google picasaweb handles the image file name. I'd like to get some ideas on how to implement that. Thanks! -Yi

Django 404 pages not appearing?

I want to add a 404 page on my Django site. I've created a template, 404.html, and saved it in the root of my /templates directory. I've also made sure that the from django.conf.urls.defaults import * line is included at the top of urls.py. I've set DEBUG to False. (I've been following these instructions.) However, if I try to go to a page that I know doesn't exist - whether a made-up URL or a view specifically designed to do get_object_or_404 - the 404 page doesn't appear: I just get Chrome's standard 'Oops! This link appears to be broken' page. Oddly, I also have a 500.html template in the same place and that is appearing just fine if I generate a 500 error. What might the problem be?

Hello! I want to allow the users of a web app that I'm building to write their own CSS in order to customize their profile page. However I am aware of this opening up for many security risks, i e background: url('javascript:alert("Got your cookies! " + document.cookies'). Hence I am looking for a solution to sanitize the CSS while still allowing as much CSS functionality as possible for my users. So my questions if anyone anyone knows of a gem or a plugin to handles this? I've googled my brains out already so any tips would be really appreciated!

Download office document without the web server trying to render it

I'm trying to download an InfoPath template that's hosted on SharePoint. If I hit the url in internet explorer it asks me where to save it and I get the correct file on my disk. If I try to do this programmatically with WebClient or HttpWebRequest then I get HTML back instead. How can I make my request so that the web server returns the actual xsn file and doesn't try to render it in html. If internet explorer can do this then it's logical to think that I can too. I've tried setting the Accept property of the request to application/x-microsoft-InfoPathFormTemplate but that hasn't helped. It was a shot in the dark.

Learning Python coming from PHP

Community wiki so don't vote to close, kthxbai. My dynamic language experience is solely PHP. I want to learn Python now to broaden my career opportunities and just because I like programming. :) When learning Java, I used a site (lost the URL/real name now), something like "Java for PHP developers" that had all on one side of the page the PHP code, and on the other side the Java code to do the same thing. Is there a website like that for Python? Any other recommendations/advice? Thanks Edit: I have no votes left today, but I'll up-vote good answers tomorrow :)

Background image not getting vertically stretched in Chrome.

Hi all, The CSS - #header { overflow: hidden; background: url(images/header-bg.png) top repeat-x #FFFFFF; position: relative; border: none; display: block; height: 125px; width:100%; } The HTML - <div id="header"> <a href="http://localhost/" title="Dev" id="logo"><img src="images/logo.png" alt="" /></a> </div> This works good in Firefox - But not in Chrome :( - The image isn't being stretched vertically in Chrome. Help! Just a note, I'm on Linux.
