  • How can I get a file's upload size using simple Javascript?

    - by Pankaj Khurana
I have upload file functionality on one of the page. I check for the extension of the file using JavaScript. Now i want to restrict the user from uploading file greater than 1 MB. Is there any way i can check the file upload size using JavaScript. My code currently look like this: <script language="JavaScript"> function validate() { var filename = document.getElementById("txtChooseFile").value; var ext = getExt(filename); if(ext == "txt" || ext == "csv") return true; alert("Please upload Text files only."); return false; } function getExt(filename) { var dot_pos = filename.lastIndexOf("."); if(dot_pos == -1) return ""; return filename.substr(dot_pos+1).toLowerCase(); } </script>

  • MembershipUser class CreateUser password paramter

    - by d3020
I'm using the ASP.NET Configuration for my users and their roles. I'm also using the MembershipUser class with its function CreateUser. I have it working, but was curious about something. When I add a new user and pass this function its password parameter (which in this case is coming from a textbox on the page). It seems like it only finds and accepts that textbox value when it is 6 chars or more. For example, if I type in ab123 it'll say object not set to instance of an object. However if I do abc123 it works fine. Where is that being told to do that. I didn't know if this was something I could change or where it might be doing that. Thanks.

  • how to: handle exceptions, best practices

    - by b0x0rz
need to implement a global error handling, so maybe you can help out with the following example... i have this code: public bool IsUserAuthorizedToSignIn(string userEMailAddress, string userPassword) { // get MD5 hash for use in the LINQ query string passwordSaltedHash = this.PasswordSaltedHash(userEMailAddress, userPassword); // check for email / password / validity using (UserManagementDataContext context = new UserManagementDataContext()) { var users = from u in context.Users where u.UserEMailAdresses.Any(e => e.EMailAddress == userEMailAddress) && u.UserPasswords.Any(p => p.PasswordSaltedHash == passwordSaltedHash) && u.IsActive == true select u; // true if user found return (users.Count() == 1) ? true : false; } } and the md5 as well: private string PasswordSaltedHash(string userEMailAddress, string userPassword) { MD5 hasher = MD5.Create(); byte[] data = hasher.ComputeHash(Encoding.Default.GetBytes(userPassword + userEMailAddress)); StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < data.Length; i++) { stringBuilder.Append(data[i].ToString("x2")); } Trace.WriteLine(String.Empty); Trace.WriteLine("hash: " + stringBuilder.ToString()); return stringBuilder.ToString(); } so, how would i go about handling exceptions from these functions? they first one is called from the Default.aspx page. the second one is only called from other functions from the class library. what is the best practice? surround code INSIDE each function with try-catch surround the FUNCTION CALL with try-catch something else?? what to do if exceptions happen? in this example: this is a user sign in, so somehow even if everything fails, the user should get some meaningful info - along the lines: sign in ok (just redirect), sign in not ok (wrong user name / password), sign in not possible due to internal problems, sorry (exception happened). for the first function i am worried if there is a problem with database access. not sure if there is anything that needs to be handled in the second one. thnx for the info. how would you do it? need specific info on this (easier for me to understand), but also general info on how to handle other tasks/functions. i looked around the internet but everyone has different things to say, so unsure what to do... will go with either most votes here, or most logicaly explained answer :) thank you.

  • Optimising movement on hex grid

    - by Mloren
I am making a turn based hex-grid game. The player selects units and moves them across the hex grid. Each tile in the grid is of a particular terrain type (eg desert, hills, mountains, etc) and each unit type has different abilities when it comes to moving over the terrain (e.g. some can move over mountains easily, some with difficulty and some not at all). Each unit has a movement value and each tile takes a certain amount of movement based on its terrain type and the unit type. E.g it costs a tank 1 to move over desert, 4 over swamp and cant move at all over mountains. Where as a flying unit moves over everything at a cost of 1. The issue I have is that when a unit is selected, I want to highlight an area around it showing where it can move, this means working out all the possible paths through the surrounding hexes, how much movement each path will take and lighting up the tiles based on that information. I got this working with a recursive function and found it took too long to calculate, I moved the function into a thread so that it didn't block the game but still it takes around 2 seconds for the thread to calculate the moveable area for a unit with a move of 8. Its over a million recursions which obviously is problematic. I'm wondering if anyone has an clever ideas on how I can optimize this problem. Here's the recursive function I'm currently using (its C# btw): private void CalcMoveGridRecursive(int nCenterIndex, int nMoveRemaining) { //List of the 6 tiles adjacent to the center tile int[] anAdjacentTiles = m_ThreadData.m_aHexData[nCenterIndex].m_anAdjacentTiles; foreach(int tileIndex in anAdjacentTiles) { //make sure this adjacent tile exists if(tileIndex == -1) continue; //How much would it cost the unit to move onto this adjacent tile int nMoveCost = m_ThreadData.m_anTerrainMoveCost[(int)m_ThreadData.m_aHexData[tileIndex].m_eTileType]; if(nMoveCost != -1 && nMoveCost <= nMoveRemaining) { //Make sure the adjacent tile isnt already in our list. if(!m_ThreadData.m_lPassableTiles.Contains(tileIndex)) m_ThreadData.m_lPassableTiles.Add(tileIndex); //Now check the 6 tiles surrounding the adjacent tile we just checked (it becomes the new center). CalcMoveGridRecursive(tileIndex, nMoveRemaining - nMoveCost); } } } At the end of the recursion, m_lPassableTiles contains a list of the indexes of all the tiles that the unit can possibly reach and they are made to glow. This all works, it just takes too long. Does anyone know a better approach to this?

  • Injecting dependency into entity repository

    - by Hubert Perron
Is there a simple way to inject a dependency into every repository instance in Doctrine2 ? I have tried listening to the loadClassMetadata event and using setter injection on the repository but this naturally resulted in a infinite loop as calling getRepository in the event triggered the same event. After taking a look at the Doctrine\ORM\EntityManager::getRepository method it seems like repositories are not using dependency injection at all, instead they are instantiated at the function level: public function getRepository($entityName) { $entityName = ltrim($entityName, '\\'); if (isset($this->repositories[$entityName])) { return $this->repositories[$entityName]; } $metadata = $this->getClassMetadata($entityName); $customRepositoryClassName = $metadata->customRepositoryClassName; if ($customRepositoryClassName !== null) { $repository = new $customRepositoryClassName($this, $metadata); } else { $repository = new EntityRepository($this, $metadata); } $this->repositories[$entityName] = $repository; return $repository; } Any ideas ?

  • jQuery.Ajax makes the wrong request with array data

    - by user46503
Hello, I have the following array: var idParam = ["1","2","3"]; I want to send this data as request using jQuery.ajax, what I'm doing: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "Services/GetInfo.ashx", data: { "id": idParam }, contentType: "application/text", dataType: "json", success: function(result) { ... }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { ... } }); But as result I have the following ugly string: ?id[]=1&id[]=2&id[]=4 (actually it's much uglier:id%5B%5D=1&id%5B%5D=2&id%5B%5D=4). What to do to get the normal string like: id=1&id=2&id=4 ?? Thanks

  • Web-based document merge solution?

    - by rugcutter
We are looking for a web-based document merge solution. Our application is a web-based project management tool built using Xataface - PHP on Windows IIS + mySQL. We have a function that allows the user to generate a status report in Microsoft Word format based on data in the tool. Currently this function is implemented using LiveDocX. We have a status report template, and LiveDocX performs the merge into the template using data from our project management tool. The main drawback is LiveDocx is web-service based. We are looking to replace LiveDocX in order to reduce our dependence on the up-time of a third-party web-service that we cannot control. Does anyone have any suggestions on a web based document merge solution that I can install on my IIS or PHP based server?

  • edge case for selecting a checked radio input with jquery

    - by altvali
Hi all! I have a problem selecting a checked radio button with jquery. The radio buttons are generated by a function from a MVC that i'd rather not change and its name is like id[number]. Simply put, I have to check if any of these buttons are checked: <input type="radio" name="id[1]" value="1"/ <input type="radio" name="id[1]" value="2"/ The problem is that jQuery('input:radio[name=id[1]]:checked').val() will select some function from the jQuery library. Any help will be much appreciated.

  • DEADLOCK_WRAP error when using Berkeley Db in python (bsddb)

    - by JiminyCricket
I am using a berkdb to store a huge list of key-value pairs but for some reason when i try to access some of the data later i get this error: try: key = 'scrape011201-590652' contenttext = contentdict[key] except: print the error <type 'exceptions.KeyError'> 'scrape011201-590652' in contenttext = contentdict[key]\n', ' File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/bsddb/__init__.py", line 223, in __getitem__\n return _DeadlockWrap(lambda: self.db[key]) # self.db[key]\n', 'File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/bsddb/dbutils.py", line 62, in DeadlockWrap\n return function(*_args, **_kwargs)\n', ' File "/usr/lib64/python2.5/bsddb/__init__.py", line 223, in <lambda>\n return _DeadlockWrap(lambda: self.db[key]) # self.db[key]\n'] I am not sure what DeadlockWrap is but there isnt any other program or process accessing the berkdb or writing to it (as far as i know,) so not sure how we could get a deadlock, if its referring to that. Is it possible that I am trying to access the data to rapidly? I have this function call in a loop, so something like for i in hugelist: #try to get a value from the berkdb #do something with it I am running this with multiple datasets and this error only occurs with one of them, the largest one, not the others.

  • setting value to the instance of primitive types

    - by Samreen
I have a function which performs some operation i.e. fetches some data from database. The generic it takes is primitive type always i.e. int, char, bool, string etc. I can easily create its instance. But I can't set the value that I have fetched from database to this instance. public T PerformOperation<T>() { object instance = (T)Activator.CreateInstance(typeof(T)); object result=FetchData(); instance = (T)result; //It gives error on this statement } The function is called as: int result = PerformOperation<int>(); Is there some way of casting the object Type to any generic type which is always primitive?

  • PHP Nested classes work... sort of?

    - by SeanJA
So, if you try to do a nested class like this: //nestedtest.php class nestedTest{ function test(){ class E extends Exception{} throw new E; } } You will get an error Fatal error: Class declarations may not be nested in [...] but if you have a class in a separate file like so: //nestedtest2.php class nestedTest2{ function test(){ include('e.php'); throw new E; } } //e.php class E Extends Exception{} So, why does the second hacky way of doing it work, but the non-hacky way of doing it does not work?

  • What does the '&' operator do in C++?

    - by rascher
n00b question. I am a C guy and I'm trying to understand some C++ code. I have the following function declaration: int foo(const string &myname) { cout << "called foo for: " << myname << endl; return 0; } How does the function signature differ from the equivalent C: int foo(const char *myname) Is there a difference between using string *myname vs string &myname? What is the difference between & in C++ and * in C to indicate pointers? Similarly: const string &GetMethodName() { ... } What is the & doing here? Is there some website that explains how & is used differently in C vs C++?

  • How to set parameters in Python zlib module

    - by fagricipni
I want to write a Python program that makes PNG files. My big problem is with generating the CRC and the data in the IDAT chunk. Python 2.6.4 does have a zlib module, but there are extra settings needed. The PNG specification REQUIRES the IDAT data to be compressed with zlib's deflate method with a window size of 32768 bytes, but I can't find how to set those parameters in the Python zlib module. As for the CRC for each chunk, the zlib module documentation indicates that it contains a CRC function. I believe that calling that CRC function as crc32(data,-1) will generate the CRC that I need, though if necessary I can translate the C code given in the PNG specification. Note that I can generate the rest of the PNG file and the data that is to be compressed for the IDAT chunk, I just don't know how to properly compress the image data for the IDAT chunk after implementing the initial filtering step.

  • Slickgrid, confirm before edit

    - by Evan
    I am making a slick grid and need the ability to add rows with a code column. For this to be possible the code column needs to be editable for the entire table. I am trying to work out a way that I can confirm the edit with a standard javascript confirm popup box. I tried putting one into the onedit event within the slickgrid constructor and that executed after the edit. I am led to believe that the edit function is independent from calling the edit stored procedure of the database. Is there a better way to go about this? RF_tagsTable = new IndustrialSlickGrid( LadlesContainerSG , { URL: Global.DALServiceURL + "CallProcedure" , DatabaseParameters: { Procedure: "dbo.TableRF_tags" , ConnectionStringName: Global.ConnectionStringNames.LadleTracker } , Title: "RF tags" , Attributes: { AllowDelete: true , defaultColumnWidth: 120 , editable: true , enableAddRow: true , enableCellNavigation: true , enableColumnReorder: false , rowHeight: 25 , autoHeight: true , autoEdit: false , forceFitColumns: true } , Events: { onRowEdited : rowEdited /*function(){ //this is my failed attempt var r=confirm("Edit an existing tag?") if (r){ alert(r); } else { alert(r); } }*/ , onRowAdded : rowAdded } });

  • In Haskell, how can you sort a list of infinite lists of strings?

    - by HaskellNoob
So basically, if I have a (finite or infinite) list of (finite or infinite) lists of strings, is it possible to sort the list by length first and then by lexicographic order, excluding duplicates? A sample input/output would be: Input: [["a", "b",...], ["a", "aa", "aaa"], ["b", "bb", "bbb",...], ...] Output: ["a", "b", "aa", "bb", "aaa", "bbb", ...] I know that the input list is not a valid haskell expression but suppose that there is an input like that. I tried using merge algorithm but it tends to hang on the inputs that I give it. Can somebody explain and show a decent sorting function that can do this? If there isn't any function like that, can you explain why? In case somebody didn't understand what I meant by the sorting order, I meant that shortest length strings are sorted first AND if one or more strings are of same length then they are sorted using < operator. Thanks!

  • Creating .lib files in CUDA Toolkit 5

    - by user1683586
I am taking my first faltering steps with CUDA Toolkit 5.0 RC using VS2010. Separate compilation has me confused. I tried to set up a project as a Static Library (.lib), but when I try to build it, it does not create a device-link.obj and I don't understand why. For instance, there are 2 files: A caller function that uses a function f #include "thrust\host_vector.h" #include "thrust\device_vector.h" using namespace thrust::placeholders; extern __device__ double f(double x); struct f_func { __device__ double operator()(const double& x) const { return f(x); } }; void test(const int len, double * data, double * res) { thrust::device_vector<double> d_data(data, data + len); thrust::transform(d_data.begin(), d_data.end(), d_data.begin(), f_func()); thrust::copy(d_data.begin(),d_data.end(), res); } And a library file that defines f __device__ double f(double x) { return x+2.0; } If I set the option generate relocatable device code to No, the first file will not compile due to unresolved extern function f. If I set it to -rdc, it will compile, but does not produce a device-link.obj file and so the linker fails. If I put the definition of f into the first file and delete the second it builds successfully, but now it isn't separate compilation anymore. How can I build a static library like this with separate source files? [Updated here] I called the first caller file "caller.cu" and the second "libfn.cu". The compiler lines that VS2010 outputs (which I don't fully understand) are (for caller): nvcc.exe -ccbin "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\bin" -I"C:\Program Files\NVIDIA GPU Computing Toolkit\CUDA\v5.0\include" -I"C:\Program Files\NVIDIA GPU Computing Toolkit\CUDA\v5.0\include" -G --keep-dir "Debug" -maxrregcount=0 --machine 32 --compile -g -D_MBCS -Xcompiler "/EHsc /W3 /nologo /Od /Zi /RTC1 /MDd " -o "Debug\caller.cu.obj" "G:\Test_Linking\caller.cu" -clean and the same for libfn, then: nvcc.exe -gencode=arch=compute_20,code=\"sm_20,compute_20\" --use-local-env --cl-version 2010 -ccbin "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\bin" -rdc=true -I"C:\Program Files\NVIDIA GPU Computing Toolkit\CUDA\v5.0\include" -I"C:\Program Files\NVIDIA GPU Computing Toolkit\CUDA\v5.0\include" -G --keep-dir "Debug" -maxrregcount=0 --machine 32 --compile -g -D_MBCS -Xcompiler "/EHsc /W3 /nologo /Od /Zi /RTC1 /MDd " -o "Debug\caller.cu.obj" "G:\Test_Linking\caller.cu" and again for libfn.

  • C++ adding friend to a template class in order to typecast

    - by user1835359
I'm currently reading "Effective C++" and there is a chapter that contains code similiar to this: template <typename T> class Num { public: Num(int n) { ... } }; template <typename T> Num<T> operator*(const Num<T>& lhs, const Num<T>& rhs) { ... } Num<int> n = 5 * Num<int>(10); The book says that this won't work (and indeed it doesn't) because you can't expect the compiler to use implicit typecasting to specialize a template. As a soluting it is suggested to use the "friend" syntax to define the function inside the class. //It works template <typename T> class Num { public: Num(int n) { ... } friend Num operator*(const Num& lhs, const Num& rhs) { ... } }; Num<int> n = 5 * Num<int>(10); And the book suggests to use this friend-declaration thing whenever I need implicit conversion to a template class type. And it all seems to make sense. But why can't I get the same example working with a common function, not an operator? template <typename T> class Num { public: Num(int n) { ... } friend void doFoo(const Num& lhs) { ... } }; doFoo(5); This time the compiler complaints that he can't find any 'doFoo' at all. And if i declare the doFoo outside the class, i get the reasonable mismatched types error. Seems like the "friend ..." part is just being ignored. So is there a problem with my understanding? What is the difference between a function and an operator in this case?

  • jQuery validator and a custom rule that uses AJAX

    - by thatweblook
Hi, I read your reply regarding the jQuery validator where you outline a method to check a username against a value in a database. Ive tried implementing this method but no matter what is returned from the PHP file I always get the message that the username is already taken. Here is ths custom method... $.validator.addMethod("uniqueUserName", function(value, element) { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "php/get_save_status.php", data: "checkUsername="+value, dataType:"html", success: function(msg) { // if the user exists, it returns a string "true" if(msg == "true") return false; // already exists return true; // username is free to use } })}, "Username is Already Taken"); And here is the validate code... username: { required: true, uniqueUserName: true }, Is there a specific way i am supposed to return the message from php. • javascript: capturing load event on LINK

    - by pgn
hello everyone, i'm trying to attach an event handler to the load event of a link tag, to execute some code after a stylesheet has loaded. new_element = document.createElement('link'); new_element.type = 'text/css'; new_element.rel = 'stylesheet'; new_element.href = 'http://domain.tld/file.css'; new_element.addEventListener('load', function() { alert('foo'); }, false); document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(new_element) i have tried onreadystatechange as well new_element.onreadystatechange = function() { alert('foo'); } unfortunately neither approach results in an alert being triggered.. Furthermore, new_element.onload is null after registering a handler for the 'load' event with addEventListener.. is that normal? thanks, andrew ps: i may not use any framework in solving this

  • Condition checking vs. Exception handling

    - by Aidas Bendoraitis
When is exception handling more preferable than condition checking? There are many situations where I can choose using one or the other. For example, this is a summing function which uses a custom exception: # module mylibrary class WrongSummand(Exception): pass def sum_(a, b): """ returns the sum of two summands of the same type """ if type(a) != type(b): raise WrongSummand("given arguments are not of the same type") return a + b # module application using mylibrary from mylibrary import sum_, WrongSummand try: print sum_("A", 5) except WrongSummand: print "wrong arguments" And this is the same function, which avoids using exceptions # module mylibrary def sum_(a, b): """ returns the sum of two summands if they are both of the same type """ if type(a) == type(b): return a + b # module application using mylibrary from mylibrary import sum_ c = sum_("A", 5) if c is not None: print c else: print "wrong arguments" I think that using conditions is always more readable and manageable. Or am I wrong? What are the proper cases for defining APIs which raise exceptions and why?

  • How to escape <, >, and & characters to html entities in Oracle PL/SQL

    - by SWilk
Hi, I need to send HTML emails directly from oracle PL/SQL package. This works almost fine. I have problem with the fact that some of the data fetched from a table contain things like <S>, <L>, and similar fragments, which sometimes ar treated as HTML tags, and even if not, they are always ignored and never displayed. So, I need to escape this column before inserting into email body. Is there a function to escape html special chars into entities automaticly? Or do I need to replace('<','&lt;',string) manually all the special characters? I found a function to escape URLs but not one for HTML :( Best regards, SWilk
