• Look of the app - Py2exe / wxPython

  So my problem is the look and feel from my application, as it looks like an old look app. It is an wxPython application, and on python it runs fine and looks fine, but when I convert it to .exe using py2exe, the look is just bad. Now I know that if you are using XP you need some manifest to correct it but I am in other circumstances. I'm using Windows 7, and I'm using Python 2.6 (Yes, I am including the DLL's and the Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest). So my question is how can I solve this under these circumstances? NOTE: I tried to search on google, but the posts I found were rather old with people using XP and older python versions so I assumed it would be different? • Safari wrapping too early

  I've created a class web page with a page for midterm review. It uses jsMath to turn Tex into nice math. (MathML looks awful) Anyway, I would occasionally like to have several problems per line. Each problem is in its own <span>, so if it needs to wrap, it won't split the problem. It all seems to work, except that Safari for the Mac seems overly anxious to wrap, sometimes wrapping at 30% paragraph width. Even under inspection, it reports a width of 663px, but wrapping occurs at around 150px. There is no padding. Firefox renders just fine. The Ugly workaround i have came up with is to put grep error redirect to a temporary %LOGFILE%.aux java ... | grep ... 2%LOGFILE%.aux type %LOGFILE%.aux % %LOGFILE% del %LOGFILE%.aux What is a better solution?

  Hi, I'm going to make my monthly trip to the bookstore soon and I'm kind of interested in learning some user interface and/or design stuff - mostly web related, what are some good books I should look at? One that I've seen come up frequently in the past is Don't Make Me Think, which looks promising. I'm aware of the fact that programmers often don't make great designers, and as such this is more of a potential hobby thing than a move to be a professional designer. I'm also looking for any good web resources on this topic. I subscribed to Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox newsletter, for instance, although it seems to come only once a month or so. Thanks! • Rendering plain text through PHP

  Hi, For some reason, I want to serve my robots.txt via a PHP script. I have setup apache so that the robots.txt file request (infact all file requests) come to a single PHP script. The code I am using to render robots.txt is: echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; However, it is not processing the newlines. How to server robots.txt correctly, so search engines (or any client) see it properly? Do I have to send some special headers for txt files? EDIT: Now I have the following code: header("Content-Type: text/plain"); echo "User-agent: wget\n"; echo "Disallow: /\n"; which still does not display newlines (see http://sarcastic-quotes.com/robots.txt ). • CSS problems with our eBay custom HTML template

  we are building a template for our eBay listings. eBay allows users to upload a description as HTML code and allows that code to link your external CSS files. eBay displays the user's HTML code in an iframe, it looks like eBay calculates the height of your page on load and then and resizes the iframe according to that height.   Ok, I'm having a slight bit of confusion writing my own jQuery UI widget plugins. The problem lies in the destroy function. In the docs, it says to put the default destroy first then write other things particular to the widget after it. $.Widget.prototype.destroy.apply(this, arguments); // default destroy // now do other stuff particular to this widget See http://jqueryui.com/docs/Developer_Guide However in their example scripts (those being the actual pluings for jQuery Ui released code, does it the opposite. The $.Widget.prototype.destroy.apply(this, arguments); is at the end of the function. The way the current widgets are written, or by the explanation in the code comment in the Developer_Guide?

  I am trying to use marker.setIcon() to change a markers image. However it appears that although this changes the marker.iconUrl attribute the icon itself is using marker.proprietary_marker.$.icon.image to display the markers image - so the markers icon remains unchanged. Is there a way to dynamically change the marker.proprietary_marker.$.icon.image? Add a marker. Check the icon's image url and the proprietary icon's image - they're the same. Change the icon. Again check the Urls. • can router configuration cause decreasing of download rate?

• Powershell overruling Perl binmode?

  I have a Perl script which creates a binary file while scanning a very large text file. It outputs to STDOUT which I redirect in the commandline to a file. To optimize it I'm making changes then seeing how low it takes to run. On Linux for this I use the "time" command. On Windows the best way to time a program seemed to be to PowerShell's "measure-command". This seemed to work fine but I noticed the generated files were larger. On examination I found that the files generated from within PowerShell begin with a BOM and contain CRLF pairs! My Perl script has a "binmode STDOUT" directive and does work correctly in a normal dosbox. Is this a bug or misfeature in PowerShell or measure-command? Has it affected others creating binary files by means other than Perl? Googling hasn't turned anything up so far. I'm using Perl 5.12, PowerShell v1.0 and Windows XP.

• Asp.Net application/web service not working on Vista/IIS7: access right problem?

  I have an .Net 3.5 based web service running at http://localhost/serivce.svc/. Then I have a Asp.Net application running at http://localhost/myApp. In Application_Load my App reads some XML configuration from the web service. That works fine on my machine, but: On Vista with IIS7 the request to the web services fails. The web service can be accessed via the browser without any problem. I configured the app pool of my App to run as admin. I added the admin to the IIS_USRS group, but it still cannot access the web service. impersonate=true/false seems not to make a difference.

  hi, i have an project with name called(dbservice layer) which is in path: d:\webservice\DBService. here i have an webservice which connects to DB and returns an object of an class. once i added an reference here i get an url:http://localhost:2371/Jobs.svc now i have another project name (UILayer) whic is in path: E:\School\UILayer i added an service reference here with url as http://localhost:2371/Jobs.svc but i get an messgae telling service is unable why is that happening. if both my webserivce layer and ui layer are in same project. then i able to use the webserive in the ui layer. and get the required output so i wanted to know is there any way we can acesss the webserive from one project to another project thanks in advance prince

• Whats up with cross site Scripting (getJSON) and flickr example

  In past i had read the documentation about getJSON and there is an example with a flickr photo api. (the example with the [pussy]cats :-)). No I ask myself why is it possible, to access flickr directly with this example. Ive tried this by store this code on my local machine - it works but if I use a local copy of jquery i just get an error in firebug like this $ is not defined myurl/test.html Line 11 Does anybody of you have a solution for this paradox thing? • Play framework 1.x on Tomcat - httpOnly cookies

  I'm setting application.session.httpOnly=true in the application.conf and generating a war file and deploying on tomcat. I still see the cookie generated as HttpOnly=No and it is editable. This is an issue with play 1.x running on tomcat 6 (i.e. servlet api 2.x). Apparently, http only flag for cookies was only introduced in servlet 3.0 and so is only available in tomcat 7+ has anybody identified a workaround for this so far (so I could have http only cookies for play 1.x on tomcat 6.x ) ? the httpOnly flag on context in tomcat only works for tomcat's jsessionid cookie... also, can I run a play 1.x app on servlet 3.0 ? PS: This was also posted on the play framework's google groups but we did not receive a response and so posting on SO.

• Executing AJAX scripts within an AJAX response

  Hi there, I'm having trouble using AJAX page updates along with other AJAX scripts. During a normal page load, the AJAX scripts (picture scrolling and picture thumbnails) work fine. But when I update a page with AJAX, these scripts (usually loaded in the header of the initial page load) stop working. I am wondering if this is specific to these scripts and I need to look into them deeper to resolve/re-write or if I am missing something more generic in combining AJAX page updates with AJAX scripts the returned code relies on. Embedded javascript runs fine. Thanks for your ideas! • Correct way to get absolute url in django

  A problem that I stumbled upon recently, and, even though I solved it, I would like to hear your opinion of what correct/simple/adopted solution would be. I'm developing website using Django + python. When I run it on local machine with "python manage.py runserver", local address is http://127.0.0.1:8000/ by default. However, on production server my app has other url, with path - like "http://server.name/myproj/" I need to generate and use permanent urls. If I'm using {% url view params %}, I'm getting paths that are relative to / , since my urls.py contains this urlpatterns = patterns('', (r'^(\d+)?$', 'myproj.myapp.views.index'), (r'^img/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/img' }), (r'^css/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/css' }), ) So far, I see 2 solutions: modify urls.py, include '/myproj/' in case of production run use request.build_absolute_uri() for creating link in views.py or pass some variable with 'hostname:port/path' in templates Are there prettier ways to deal with this problem? • MVC Site - Ensuring the default entry view is always correct

  I have a MVC site with AD authorization. This is all working fine. I publish the site to the webserver and call the site directly (http://intranet). If I have not logged in for a while (I have an authorised cookie with a 30 minute TTL), I am prompted to log-in and if successful I am redirected to the homeController's index view. This is great and as expected. If I keep the session open (browser open) and browse away from the site, if I then browse back to http://intranet, I am not challenged as I have recently authenticated but the default page is from a different controller and not the home page view. How can I stop this from happening? It cannot be a session setting as this is not a new session and the routes appear correct - they are not beng called at this point anyhow. Please MVC guru's advise....!

• Make jqGrid fill it's container

  I am using the jQuery layout plugin and the jqGrid plugin in one of my projects and they work great except for a little problem... I want the jqGrid to fill up completely the pane (jQuery layout pane) that contains it. Resizing the pane should resize the jqGrid, closing the pane should hide the jqGrid, etc, etc... Both jqGrid and jQuery Layout provide callbacks but when I use them the page layout breaks horribly.
