Is this at all possible or is it just an educated guess? Does Firefox advertise what addons I have installed? If so: how and why does it work that way?

  • WD My Passport detected but not assigned a drive letter

    I have a WD My Passport external drive which used to work fine on my Win7 x64 box until recently. Since the past few days, windows would not detect my external drive. However, Storage under disk management lists my external drive(which means windows can see my drive) but without a drive letter. I am not able to assign a drive letter(the option is grayed out). I installed EASUS Partition Manager which allows me to assign a drive letter, but fails to do so when I apply to save changes. What do i do to assign a drive letter to the drive or make windows to detect it as of old? The external drive works well on Win7 x32(dual boot, same system) and win7 x64 on another box. Update: cant comment from Opera Mini 6 @zeke the drive works absolutely fine on other Win7 boxes and on the dual boot win7 on the same system.

  • Acer recovering windows vista

    My computer history is very long even of my computer has 4 years of life. An year ago I installed Windows 7 on this acer m1610 that had Vista before. My technic left me 2 recovery disc for "acer vista" before updating it to Windows 7. Then the computer had some trouble. The graphic card broke and we decided to use another computer. Yesterday I had the great idea to fuse the two computer to have a better one... So I moved the graphic card of the latter computer to the acer and everything gone well. Then the trouble of speed, it had before, come back. So I decided to reinstall the very first Windows: Vista back again. I booted the computer with those 2 DVD-R my technic left me and at the end of the process it asked me to insert "the backup cd number one or the system disk". I found 2 original Acer "Blank Recovery Disc" DVD-R and tried with those: rejected. Tried with empty DVD-+R: rejected. I tried with CDs: rejected. I don't have any system disc with me. Except for those 2 DVD-R my technic left me. What am I supposed to do now? I even tried with these fantomatic alt+f9/f10 that should start the recovery without any disc... But nothing happened. PS: the installation cannot complete if I do not insert the right disk. (The recovery disc uses Acer eRecovery Management as recovery software.

  • Wrong PC-projector resolution in Windows 7

    I'm connecting a PC-projector (Benq MP721) to a Windows 7 Professional laptop (HP 6730b). All the output settings on the laptop, including the laptop screen, changes to 1024x768 (which the projector supports). However the projector says it receives 1360x768 and asks me to change the resolution to 1024x768. I'm using mirrored display. The laptop is 1024x768 The screen resolution in the control panel says 1024x768 The Intel graphics card utilities says 1024x768 The driver for the projector is a Generic PnP Monitor Is there anything in Windows 7 that would convert my 4:3 resolution to wide screen automatically?

I couldn't find good information on it, but I was thinking it would blow out the bandwidth because it was like streaming a movie. Is gotomypc really feasible with an aircard at this point?

  • virtual box cannot detect webcam in ubuntu

    I have installed virtual box for ubuntu 9.10. I installed a windows xp inside it. And I don't know why it does not make the webcam available for the yahoo messenger installed in xp. When I click on the device in the interface of virtual box. I can see the webcam but it is grayed out. And I don't know why. It is also not available when I use wine to execute yahoo messenger. And I know that it is working because I can see its working when I use skype for ubuntu. Any suggestions?Its an acer aspire laptop, the webcam is built in.

    I have one monitor and a projector connecting to my computer, while the screen keep flashing after every 10 seconds, it seems the resolution keeps changing. The project is the a dual display for the monitor. They displays the same content. My current resolution is 1024*768, while after 10 seconds around, the resolution goes to something big, then after a few seconds, it goes back to 1024*768. I wonder if this is a problem about the resolution, or it's about the compatible of screen display?

    Hello, I currently own a Crosshair 2 Formula which is broken and I need to replace. Recently, I bought a Phenom 2 CPU which I wouldn't like to throw away. Recent Crosshairs are based (as opposed to the Rampage series) on chipsets that are certified for AMD Crossfire. The problem is that I have 3 SLi cards I absolutely don't want to change with AMD card(s) since I use 3D Vision, and I need NVidia. If I buy a Crosshair 3 or 4 which is not SLi certified, will SLi still work? Else, could you suggest me a good gaming motherboard with AM3 socket and that works with 3-way SLi? Thank you in advance. [Edit] I'm asking this question because it seems Crosshair 2 is difficult to find among the market

    Because I have to stare at my command prompt all the time on my computer, it should look at least half-decent, so I am trying to get it colored. The expected outcome is as seen on this site. I have the colors I want set in my .Xdefaults file, but they of course do not color my prompt. My .zshrc is Phil's Prompt.   • Windows 7 / Ubuntu Dualboot GRUB Problem.

    I'd like to first say ahead of time that I'm running a RAID-0 Setup. 1.First of all, I'm glad Ubuntu 9.10 installed flawlessly and detected my RAID-0 setup just fine. The issue I'm having now is that I already had Windows 7 installed and made a small 12GB partition for Linux/Swap. I grabbed EasyBCD 2.0 to edit the W7 bootloader and configured it to use dual boot Grub2 because before it didn't even show the option for Ubuntu. The bootloader points to a file made in the windows directory made by EasyBCD called "C:\NST\AutoNeoGrub0.mbr" which is what I'm guessing grub is booting from. After that I got the option for booting Ubuntu. The problem is that it's sending me to the Grub prompt (probably because it's pointing to \NST|AutoNeoGrub0.mbr?), at first I didn't know what to do but I researched and have to type grub commands to manually boot into Ubuntu Linux. Ex: grubroot (hd0,4) grubkernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6... root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/24624-2424... grubinitrd boot/initrd.img-2.6... grubboot After all that Ubuntu boots just fine, but how do I fix it permanently? Do I need to edit the bootloader manually (since Easy BCD "autoconfigures")? Some insight on this would rock! Also, it sucks to type the actual uuid since it's REALLY long. I tried getting the name of the drive via fdisk -l but since it's raid 0 I'm guessing I can't do that. How can I get a shorter name of the drive? like /dev/sda, /dev/sdb etc? Is there something similar for email? This will be used in printed documentation, needs to be stable (the domain can't go stale or replaced by an NSFW site), and as generic as possible.

  • Slow network file transfer (under 20KB/s) on newly built x64 Win7

    I am getting <20KB/s for local network file transfer. If I transfer a very small file (less than 100KB) it would start quickly then slow down to <20KB/s. all subsequently network file transfer would be slow, a reboot is needed to reset this. If I transfer a large file it would be stuck on calculating for a long time and then begin with <20KB/s immediately. This is a newly built desktop running Windows 7 x64 SP1. Realtek gigabit LAN from the motherboard (ASRock Extreme3 gen3). Problematic speed is observed on the private LAN, both through ethernet and WiFi. The Router is D-Link DIR-655. Remote Differential Compression is off. Drivers are up-to-date from ASRock's website. I have tested network file transfer to and from another Windows 7 laptop and a MacBook Pro, so I am fairly certain it is the desktop's problem. The slow speed only happens with one direction also, outbound from the desktop, regardless of whether I initiate the file transfer action from the origin or the destination. Inbound network file transfer and internet speeds are fine, so I don't think this is a hardware issue. I am getting 74.8MB/s internet upload speed from speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net/result/1852752479.png). Inbound network file transfer I can get around 10-15MB/s. I am hoping this community has some insight for me to troubleshoot this. I don't see anything obviously related from the Event Viewer, and beyond that I just don't know where else to look. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

  • How can I run Gnome or KDE locally in Cygwin?

    Apparently it is possible to do this using cygwin ports, as can be seen in screenshots. I followed this how-to to get apt-cygports set up, and I used it to install gnome-session.
