• Adding a guideline to the editor in Visual Studio

  Introduction I've always been searching for a way to make Visual Studio draw a line after a certain amount of characters: Below is a guide to enable these so called guidelines for various versions of Visual Studio. Visual Studio 2010 Install Paul Harrington's Editor Guidelines extension. Open the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Text Editor and add a new string called Guides with the value RGB(100,100,100), 80. The first part specifies the color, while the other one (80) is the column the line will be displayed. Or install the Guidelines UI extension, which will add entries to the editor's context menu for adding/removing the entries without needing to edit the registry directly. The current disadvantage of this method is that you can't specify the column directly. Visual Studio 2008 and Other Versions If you are using Visual Studio 2008 open the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\Text Editor and add a new string called Guides with the value RGB(100,100,100), 80. The first part specifies the color, while the other one (80) is the column the line will be displayed. The vertical line will appear, when you restart Visual Studio. This trick also works for various other version of Visual Studio, as long as you use the correct path: 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.1\Text Editor 2005: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Text Editor 2008: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\Text Editor 2008 Express: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VCExpress\9.0\Text Editor This also works in SQL Server 2005 and probably other versions.

  How do I go about the [HandleError] filter in asp.net MVC Preview 5? I set the customErrors in my web.config file <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error.aspx"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess.htm"/> <error statusCode="404" redirect="FileNotFound.htm"/> </customErrors> and put [HandleError] above my Controller Class like this: [HandleError] public class DSWebsiteController: Controller{ [snip] public ActionResult CrashTest() { throw new Exception("Oh Noes!"); } } Then I let my controllers inherit from this class and call CrashTest() on them. Visual studio halts at the error and after pressing f5 to continue, I get rerouted to Error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/sxi.mvc/CrashTest (where sxi is the name of the used controller. Off course the path cannot be found and I get "Server Error in '/' Application." 404. This site was ported from preview 3 to 5. Everything runs (wasn't that much work to port) except the error handling. When I create a complete new project the error handling seems to work. Ideas? --Note-- Since this question has over 3K views now, I thought it would be beneficial to put in what I'm currently (asp.net mvc 1.0) using. In the mvc contrib project there is a brilliant attribute called "RescueAttribute" You should probably check it out too ;)

• Show WPF tooltip on disabled item only

  Just wondering if it is possible to show a WPF on a disabled item ONLY (and not when the item is enabled). I would like to give the user a tooltip explaining why an item is currently disabled. I have an IValueConverter to invert the boolean IsEnabled property binding. But it doesn't seem to work in this situation. The tooltip is show both when the item is enabled and disabled. So is is possible to bind a tooltip.IsEnabled property exclusively to an item's own !IsEnabled? • Dynamically add User Controls to a Silverlight 4 page

  I am building an iGoogle like "dashboard" for our application with silverlight 4. Each users dashboard (which snapins and their positions) will be stored in the database. Each snap in is a user control, for example... AwesomeSnapin.xaml. On the dashboard page in silverlight I am retrieving the users dashboard which is a collection of snapin objects which include the information on the snapin. I can store the name of the page or the class or whatever is needed. I have the following code which loops through the collection of snapins to add them to the dashboard page. In testing I have just hard coded a single snapin item. Here is the prototype code: foreach (var UserSnapin in op.Entities) { UserControl uc = new AmsiSL.eFinancials.BudgetCheck(); Canvas.SetLeft(uc, UserSnapin.PositionLeft); Canvas.SetTop(uc, UserSnapin.PositionTop); Layout.Children.Add(uc); MessageBox.Show(String.Format("Added {0}",UserSnapin.Snapin.Name)); } The above works fine... but of course adds the BudgetCheck snapin for every item that is defined for the users dashboard. Of course the messagebox is for debugging purposes only. How would I change line 3 of that to load the user control class (using classname or xaml path whichever is better) based on the data in the collection.

• Selenium RC: how to capture/handle error?

  Hi, My test uses Selenium to loop through a CSV list of URLs via an HTTP proxy (working script below). As I watch the script run I can see about 10% of the calls produce "Proxy error: 502" ("Bad_Gateway"); however, the errors are not captured by my catch-all "except Exception" clause -- ie: instead of writing 'error' in the appropriate row of the "output.csv", they get passed to the else clause and produce a short piece of html that starts: "Proxy error: 502 Read from server failed: Unknown error." Also, if I collect all the URLs which returned 502s and re-run the script, they all pass, which leads me to believe that this is a sporadic network path issue. Question: Can the script be made to recognize the the 502 errors, sleep a minute, and then retry the URL instead of moving on to the next URL in the list? The only alternative that I can think of is to apply re.search("Proxy error: 502") after "get_html_source" as a way to catch the bad calls. Then, if the RE matches, put the script to sleep for a minute and then retry 'sel.open(row[0]' on the URL which produced the 502. Any advice would be much appreciated. • Full text index requires dropping and recreating - why?

  Hi all, So I've got a web app running on .net 3.5 connected to a SQL 2005 box. We do scheduled releases every 2 weeks. About 14 tables out of 250 are full text indexed. After not every release, but a few too many, the indexes crap out. They seem to have data in there, but when we try to search them from the front end or SQL enterprise we get timeouts/hangs. We have a script that disables the indexes, drops them, deletes the catalog and then re creates the indexes. This fixes the problem 99 times out of 100. and the one other time, we run the script again and it all works We have tried just rebuilding the fulltext index but that doesn't fix the issue. My question is why do we have to do this ? what can we do to sort the index out? But how would I keep track of what form fields were already added? When multiple fields are selected, the appropriate number of input fields needs to be added to the fieldcontainer div. And if they are unselected, the input fields need to be removed again. I also need to retrieve the value from the options in the select list to add them as identifier in the added input fields...

  I have been using this website to learn a lot about C# for a while, but this is my first time posting a question. I look forward to hearing back from some of the seasoned C# veterans! I have been working on a C# 4.0 WPF project and need to figure out how to databind a boolean value. I have a reference to my Application.Current object in a window. My "App" object contains a boolean field called "Downloaded" that is true if the user has downloaded information from a web service. • How to sort the file names in bash in this circumstance?

  I have run a program to generate some results with the different parameters(i.e. the R, C and RP). These results are saved in files named results.txt. Then, I should parse these experimental results to make an analysis. In the params_R_7_C_16_RP_0, the 7 is the value of the parameter R, the 16 is the value of the parameter C and the 0 is the value of the parameter RP. Now, I want to get these results.txt files in the current directory to parse, and sort the path with the parameter values of R,C and RP. Now I'm trying inject this file location from spring inside bean from this class and I specify the init-method of this class. But I get error cannot find the specified file as if its not on a classpath but it is inside war file? I'm building the project with maven and I put file in src/main/resources This is the error I get when trying to read file : Error: src\main\resources\ids.txt (The system cannot find the path specified) That is when I tried this : FileInputStream fstream = new FileInputStream("src\\main\\resources\\ids.txt"); how to reference the properly from the classpath? • Help securing files access with htaccess and php?

  I'm working on a site that allows users to purchase digital content and have implemented a method that attempts to serve secure downloads. I'm using CodeIgniter to force downloads like this: $file = file_get_contents($path); force_download("my_file_name.zip", $file); Of course, I make sure the user has access to the file using a database before serving the download, but I was wondering if there was a way to make these files more secure. I'm using a some 8-10 letter keys to create the file paths so urls to the files aren't exactly easy to figure out... something like http://mysite.com/as67Hgr/asdo0980/uth89.zip in lieu of http://mysite.com/downloads/my_file.zip. Also, I'm using .htaccess to deny directory browsing like so: Options All -Indexes. Other than that... I have no idea what steps to take. I've seen articles suggesting username and password methods using .htaccess, but I don't understand how to bypass the password prompt that would occur using that method. I was hoping there might be a method where I could send a username and password combination using headers and cUrl (or something similar), but I wouldn't know where to start. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  The background: I have a project that I last built on 10.5 on a PPC computer using xcode v3.1. It builds against the 10.4 SDK. I now have a MacBook with 10.6 on it and Xcode v3.2.1. I installed the 10.4 SDK with xcode. So now I want to build the project on an intel chip on 10.6. I first get a build error because I have the wrong version of gcc setup so I change the build settings to use gcc 4.0. This question refers to plugin development for the IntelliJ IDEA IDE, specifically targeting java development: Is there any API to get the list of .class files for given source file? I'm trying to write a plugin that creates a binary patch jar based on a changelist. I've managed to get the changelist and, from it, a list of source files (VirtualFile). Now I'm trying to get the compiled class files for these source files (I don't mind preforming a "make" or relying on the previous compile output). I've played a bit with ProjectFileIndex but could only find the classes root. I'd hate to do a "dumb" path-based search because inner classes (and inner anonymous classes) would make it difficult to get correctly. Is there such an API? Or am I doomed to parse the paths?   Hi, I'm developing a user control called SearchBox, that will act as a replacer for ComboBox for multiple records, as the performance in ComboBox is low for this scenario, but I'm having a big binding problem. I have a base control with a DependencyProperty called SelectedItem, and my SearchControl shows that control so that the user can select the record. The SearchControl also has a DependencyProperty called SelectedItem on it, and it is being updated when the user selects something on the base control, but the UI, wich has the SearchControl, is not being updated. I used a null converter so that I could see if the property was updating, but it's not.   I need to load a video stored in Applications folder in to a table view. When I touched the cell the video plays. I used the following code to get all the video files in to an array. I used NSBundle for loading videos by giving path. It worked. But, now I need the videos to load from the array contents. I'm using the Reply-To field to attempt to make it easier to hit reply and easily get back to people. The message comes up with the 'from' address and ignores the 'reply-to' address.   Hello, I've been struggling a while with marquee-style image scrolling control. As soon as item goes off-screen it's removed from ObservableCollection. The last thing to do is implementing custom item add behavior (smooth slide-in instead of insert-translateothers behavior). Shall I derive from StackPanel to achieve such effect or just perform DoubleAnimation on currently adding item? Any suggestions appreciated.
