• Need help with Android TableLayout alignment

  I'm trying to build a calculator layout using TableLayout, but the last two rows aren't aligning with the rest of the layout. Is there something wrong with my layout XML? What I'm trying to do would be easier to accomplish in HTML (<td> with colspan or rowspan), so should I try converting this into a WebView? • EF4 POCO WCF Serialization problems (no lazy loading, proxy/no proxy, circular references, etc)

  OK, I want to make sure I cover my situation and everything I've tried thoroughly. I'm pretty sure what I need/want can be done, but I haven't quite found the perfect combination for success. I'm utilizing Entity Framework 4 RTM and its POCO support. I'm looking to query for an entity (Config) that contains a many-to-many relationship with another entity (App). I turn off lazy loading and disable proxy creation for the context and explicitly load the navigation property (either through .Include() or .LoadProperty()). However, when the navigation property is loaded (that is, Apps is loaded for a given Config), the App objects that were loaded already contain references to the Configs that have been brought to memory. This creates a circular reference. Now I know the DataContractSerializer that WCF uses can handle circular references, by setting the preserveObjectReferences parameter to true. I've tried this with a couple of different attribute implementations I've found online. It is needed to prevent the "the object graph contains circular references and cannot be serialized" error. However, it doesn't prevent the serialization of the entire graph, back and forth between Config and App. If I invoke it via WcfTestClient.exe, I get a stackoverflow (ha!) exception from the client and I'm hosed. I get different results from different invocation environments (C# unit test with a local reference to the web service appears to work ok though I still can drill back and forth between Configs and Apps endlessly, but calling it from a coldfusion environment only returns the first Config in the list and errors out on the others.) My main goal is to have a serialized representation of the graph I explicitly load from EF (ie: list of Configs, each with their Apps, but no App back to Config navigation.) NOTE: I've also tried using the ProxyDataContractResolver technique and keeping the proxy creation enabled from my context. This blows up complaining about unknown types encountered. I read that the ProxyDataContractResolver didn't fully work in Beta2, but should work in RTM. For some reference, here is roughly how I'm querying the data in the service: var repo = BootStrapper.AppCtx["AppMeta.ConfigRepository"] as IRepository<Config>; repo.DisableLazyLoading(); repo.DisableProxyCreation(); //var temp2 = repo.Include(cfg => cfg.Apps).Where(cfg => cfg.Environment.Equals(environment)).ToArray(); var temp2 = repo.FindAll(cfg => cfg.Environment.Equals(environment)).ToArray(); foreach (var cfg in temp2) { repo.LoadProperty(cfg, c => c.Apps); } return temp2; I think the crux of my problem is when loading up navigation properties for POCO objects from Entity Framework 4, it prepopulates navigation properties for objects already in memory. This in turn hoses up the WCF serialization, despite every effort made to properly handle circular references. I know it's a lot of information, but it's really standing in my way of going forward with EF4/POCO in our system. I've found several articles and blogs touching upon these subjects, but for the life of me, I cannot resolve this issue. Feel free to simply ask questions and help me brainstorm this situation. PS: For the sake of being thorough, I am injecting the WCF services using the HEAD build of Spring.NET for the fix to Spring.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHostFactory. However I don't think this is the source of the problem.

• Set the JAXB context factory initialization class to be used

  I have updated our projects (Java EE based running on Websphere 8.5) to use a new release of a company internal framework (and Ejb 3.x deployment descriptors rather than the 2.x ones). Since then my integration Tests fail with the following exception: [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory] I can build the application with the previous framework release and everything works fine. While debugging i noticed that within the ContextFinder (javax.xml.bind) there are two different behaviours: Previous Version (Everything works just fine): None of the different places brings up a factory class so the default factory class gets loaded which is com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory (defined as String constant within the class). Upgraded Version (ClassNotFound): There is a resource "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" beeing loaded successfully and the first line read makes the ContextFinder attempt to load "com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory" which causes the error. I now have two questions: What sort is that resource? Because inside our EAR there is two WARs and none of those two contains a folder services in its META-INF directory. Where could that value be from otherwise? Because a filediff showed me no new or changed properties files. No need to say i am going to read all about the JAXB configuration possibilities but if you have first insights on what could have gone wrong or help me out with that resource (is it a real file i have to look for?) id appreciate a lot. Many Thanks! EDIT (according to comments Input/Questions): Out of curiosity, does your framework include JAXB JARs? Did the old version of your framework include jaxb.properties? Indeed (i am a bit surprised) the framework has a customized eclipselink-2.4.1-.jar inside the EAR that includes both a JAXB implementation and a jaxb.properties file that shows the following entry in both versions (the one that finds the factory as well as in the one that throws the exception): javax.xml.bind.context.factory=org.eclipse.persistence.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory I think this is has nothing to do with the current issue since the jar stayed exactly the same in both EARs (the one that runs/ the one with the expection) It's also not clear to me why the old version of the framework was ever selecting the com.sun implementation There is a class javax.xml.bind.ContextFinder which is responsible for initializing the JAXBContextFactory. This class searches various placess for the existance of a jaxb.properties file or a "javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" resource. If ALL of those places dont show up which Context Factory to use there is a deault factory loaded which is hardcoded in the class itself: private static final String PLATFORM_DEFAULT_FACTORY_CLASS = "com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory"; Now back to my problem: Building with the previous version of the framework (and EJB 2.x deployment descriptors) everything works fine). While debugging i can see that there is no configuration found and thatfore above mentioned default factory is loaded. Building with the new version of the framework (and EJB 3.x deployment descriptors so i can deploy) ONLY A TESTCASE fails but the rest of the functionality works (like i can send requests to our webservice and they dont trigger any errors). While debugging i can see that there is a configuration found. This resource is named "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext". Here are the most important lines of how this resource leads to the attempt to load 'com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory' which then throws the ClassNotFoundException. This is simplified source of the mentioned javax.xml.bind.ContextFinder class: URL resourceURL = ClassLoader.getSystemResource("META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext"); BufferedReader r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(resourceURL.openStream(), "UTF-8")); String factoryClassName = r.readLine().trim(); The field factoryClassName now has the value 'com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory' (The day i understand how to format source code on stackoverflow will be my biggest step ahead.... sorry for the formatting after 20 mins it still looks the same :() Because this has become a super lager question i will also add a bounty :)

• WPF TabControl - how to preserve control state within tab items (MVVM pattern)

  I am a newcomer to WPF, attempting to build a project that follows the recommendations of Josh Smith's excellent article describing The Model-View-ViewModel Design Pattern. Using Josh's sample code as a base, I have created a simple application that contains a number of "workspaces", each represented by a tab in a TabControl. In my application, a workspace is a document editor that allows a hierarchical document to be manipulated via a TreeView control. Although I have succeeded in opening multiple workspaces and viewing their document content in the bound TreeView control, I find that the TreeView "forgets" its state when switching between tabs. For example, if the TreeView in Tab1 is partially expanded, it will be shown as fully collapsed after switching to Tab2 and returning to Tab1. This behaviour appears to apply to all aspects of control state for all controls. After some experimentation, I have realized that I can preserve state within a TabItem by explicitly binding each control state property to a dedicated property on the underlying ViewModel. However, this seems like a lot of additional work, when I simply want all my controls to remember their state when switching between workspaces. I assume I am missing something simple, but I am not sure where to look for the answer. Any guidance would be much appreciated. However, since the data that underlies the TreeView is complex, I will post a simplified example that exhibits the same symtoms. For the simplicity of this example, I have removed the TreeView (mentioned above) from the DocumentView and replaced it with a TabControl containing 3 fixed tabs: <TabControl> <TabItem Header="A" /> <TabItem Header="B" /> <TabItem Header="C" /> </TabControl> In this scenario, there is no binding between the DocumentView and the DocumentViewModel. When the code is run, the inner TabControl is unable to remember its selection when the outer TabControl is switched. • Silverlight 4 + MVVM + KeyDown event

  I'm trying to build a sample game in Silverlight 4 using the MVVM design pattern to broaden my knowledge. I'm using Laurent Bugnion's MvvmLight toolkit as well (found here: http://mvvmlight.codeplex.com/ ). All I want to do right now is move a shape around within a Canvas by pressing specific keys. My solution contains a Player.xaml (just a rectangle; this will be moved around) and MainPage.xaml (the Canvas and an instance of the Player control). To my understanding, Silverlight doesn't support tunneling routed events, only bubbling. My big problem is that Player.xaml never recognizes the KeyDown event. It's always intercepted by MainPage.xaml first and it never reaches any child controls because it bubbles upward. I'd prefer that the logic to move the Player be in the PlayerViewModel class, but I don't think the Player can know about any KeyDown events firing without me explicitly passing them on down from the MainPage. I ended up adding the handler logic to the MainPageViewModel class. Now my problem is that the MainPageViewModel has no knowledge of Player.xaml so it cannot move this object when handling KeyDown events. I guess this is expected, as ViewModels should not have any knowledge of their associated Views. In not so many words...is there a way this Player user control within my MainPage.xaml can directly accept and handle KeyDown events? If not, what's the ideal method for my MainPageViewModel to communicate with its View's child controls? I'm trying to keep code out of the code-behind files as much as possible. Seems like it's best to put logic in the ViewModels for ease of testing and to decouple UI from logic. • Does the ulkJSON library have limitations when dealing with base64 in Delphi 7?

  I'm working on a project that is using Delphi 7 to consume RESTful services. We are creating and decoding JSON with the ulkJSON library. Up to this point I've been able to successfully build and send JSON containing a base64 string that exceed 5,160kb. I can verify that the base64 is being received by the services and verify the integrity of the base64 once its there. In addition to sending, I can also receive and successfully decode JSON with a smaller (~ 256KB or less) base64. However I am experiencing some issues on the return trip when larger (~1,024KB+) base64 is involved for some reason. Following the debugger, I can go into the library, and see that the JSON string being passed is not considered to be JSON despite being in the format listed above. The only difference I can find between calls that work as expected and calls that do not work as expect appears to be the size of base64 being transmitted. Am I missing something completely obvious and should be shot for my code implementation (very possible)? Have I missed some notation regarding the limitations of the ulkJSON library? Now this is not possible. The svcutil allows to map only one or all namespaces, not a list of mappings. I can do one mapping as shown below but not multiple svcutil.exe /t:code *.wsdl *.xsd /n:"http://mydomain.com/xsd/Model/Store/2009/07/01, MyDomain.Model.Address" /o:TestClient\WebServiceProxy4.cs But is there any solution. Svcutil is not magic, it is written in .Net and programatically generating the proxies. Has anyone written an alternate to svcutil or point me to directions so that I can write one.

  I upgraded my MVC Application using MSChart to MVC 2 and have ended up with broken image links for the charts. Rather I am getting an image with black background. I am not sure if this is the right way of doing it, but I found over the web that IViewObject::Draw method is used for taking the image of a webpage in IE. I was earlier doing the image capture using the Native PrintWindow() method as mentioned in the following codeproject's page - http://www.codeproject.com/KB/graphics/IECapture.aspx But the image size is humongous! • Best practices for using the Entity Framework with WPF DataBinding

  I'm in the process of building my first real WPF application (i.e., the first intended to be used by someone besides me), and I'm still wrapping my head around the best way to do things in WPF. It's a fairly simple data access application using the still-fairly-new Entity Framework, but I haven't been able to find a lot of guidance online for the best way to use these two technologies (WPF and EF) together. So I thought I'd toss out how I'm approaching it, and see if anyone has any better suggestions. I'm using the Entity Framework with SQL Server 2008. The EF strikes me as both much more complicated than it needs to be, and not yet mature, but Linq-to-SQL is apparently dead, so I might as well use the technology that MS seems to be focusing on. This is a simple application, so I haven't (yet) seen fit to build a separate data layer around it. When I want to get at data, I use fairly simple Linq-to-Entity queries, usually straight from my code-behind, e.g.: var families = from family in entities.Family.Include("Person") orderby family.PrimaryLastName, family.Tag select family; Linq-to-Entity queries return an IOrderedQueryable result, which doesn't automatically reflect changes in the underlying data, e.g., if I add a new record via code to the entity data model, the existence of this new record is not automatically reflected in the various controls referencing the Linq query. Sometimes I'll use a Grid, but it seems hard to maintain: if you want to add a new row to the top of your grid, you have to touch every control directly hosted by the grid to tell it to use a new line. Uggh. (Microsoft has never really seemed to get the DRY concept.) I almost never use the VS WPF designer to add, modify or position controls. The WPF designer that comes with VS is sort of vaguely helpful to see what your form is going to look like, but even then, well, not really, especially if you're using data templates that aren't binding to data that's available at design time. If I need to edit my XAML, I take it like a man and do it manually. Most of my real code is in C# rather than XAML. As I've mentioned elsewhere, entirely aside from the fact that I'm not yet used to "thinking" in it, XAML strikes me as a clunky, ugly language, that also happens to come with poor designer and intellisense support, and that can't be debugged. Uggh. Consequently, whenever I can see clearly how to do something in C# code-behind that I can't easily see how to do in XAML, I do it in C#, with no apologies. There's been plenty written about how it's a good practice to almost never use code-behind in WPF page (say, for event-handling), but so far at least, that makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why should I do something in an ugly, clunky language with god-awful syntax, an astonishingly bad editor, and virtually no type safety, when I can use a nice, clean language like C# that has a world-class editor, near-perfect intellisense, and unparalleled type safety? So that's where I'm at. Any suggestions? Am I missing any big parts of this? Anything that I should really think about doing differently?

• no namenode error in pseudo-mode

  I'm new to hadoop and is in learning phase. As per Hadoop Definitve guide, i have set up my hadoop in pseudo distributed mode and everything was working fine. I was even able to execute all the examples from chapter 3 yesterday. Today, when i rebooted my unix and tried to run start-dfs.sh and then tried http://localhost/50070....it is showing error and when i try to stop dfs (stop-dfs.sh) it says no namenode to stop. I have been googling the issue but no result. Also, when i format my namenode again...everything starts working fine and i'm able to connect to the localhost/50070 and even replicate files and directories in hdfs but as soon as i restart my linux and try to connect to hdfs the same problem comes up. • Button click does not start Service in Android App Widget

  I'm having trouble starting a Service to update an AppWidget that I'm creating as an exercise. I'm trying to get the latitude and longitude of spoofed location data from DDMS to display in the widget. The widget uses a service to update the TextView, which may be slightly overkill, but I wanted to follow the template that seems to be common in AppWidgets that do more work (like the Forecast widget or the Wiktionary widget). Right now, I'm not getting any error messages or strange behavior; nothing at all happens when the button is pressed. I'm a bit mystified as to what might be wrong. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction? Additionally, if my logic for location is faulty, I'd love recommendations on that too. I've looked at several blogs, the Google examples, and the documentation, but I feel a little fuzzy on how it works. • Mac 10.6 Universal Binary scipy: cephes/specfun "_aswfa_" symbol not found

  Hi folks, I can't get scipy to function in 32 bit mode when compiled as a i386/x86_64 universal binary, and executed on my 64 bit 10.6.2 MacPro1,1. My python setup With the help of this answer, I built a 32/64 bit intel universal binary of python 2.6.4 with the intention of using the arch command to select between the architectures. (I managed to make some universal binaries of a few libraries I wanted using lipo.) That all works. I then installed scipy according to the instructions on hyperjeff's article, only with more up-to-date numpy (1.4.0) and skipping the bit about moving numpy aside briefly during the installation of scipy. Now, everything except scipy seems to be working as far as I can tell, and I can indeed select between 32 and 64 bit mode using arch -i386 python and arch -x86_64 python. I don't really expect a full answer given my fairly unique (?) setup, but if anyone has any clues that might point me in the right direction, they'd be greatly appreciated. (edit) More details to address questions: I'm using gfortran (GNU Fortran from GCC 4.2.1 Apple Inc. build 5646). Rather I am getting an image with black background. I am not sure if this is the right way of doing it, but I found over the web that IViewObject::Draw method is used for taking the image of a webpage in IE. I was earlier doing the image capture using the Native PrintWindow() method as mentioned in the following codeproject's page - http://www.codeproject.com/KB/graphics/IECapture.aspx But the image size is humongous!   OK, I'm flummoxed. I'm trying to execute a query on a database (locally) and I keep getting a connection reset error. The description field is being populated from a TinyMCE textarea - I'm guessing it's chucking in some line returns, so I've tried stripping those out. However, even if I disable the TinyMCE field, the reset error still occurs. The next port of call was checking the limits on the table, since it seems to insert if the length of "description" is around the 300 mark (it varies between 310 - 330). The field limit is set to VARCHAR(1500) and the validation on this field won't allow anything past bigger than 1200 with HTML, 800 without. The real kicker is that if I take this sql string and execute it via the command line, it works fine - so I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. So, in a nutshell, I'm stumped. Any ideas?

• QtOpenCl make errors. Please help.

• using 'ar' tool in Alchemy

  I've found that if you specify a path to Alchemy's 'ar' tool, it won't create the 'l.bc' file necessary to link the library. Notice how in the first example, 'test.l.bc' was generated alongside libtest.a. But in the second example test.l.bc was not generated. Where did it go? This is a contrived example, but in the project I'm trying to build with alchemy the make scripts generate libraries in full paths and then refer to them that way. It seems that alchemy's 'ar' tool is broken if you try to generate a library anywhere other than '.'. Has anyone else seen this?
