  • How to use SQL trigger to record the affected column's row number

    - by Freeman
    I want to have an 'updateinfo' table in order to record every update/insert/delete operations on another table. In oracle I've written this: CREATE TABLE updateinfo ( rnumber NUMBER(10), tablename VARCHAR2(100 BYTE), action VARCHAR2(100 BYTE), UPDATE_DATE date ) DROP TRIGGER TRI_TABLE; CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TRI_TABLE AFTER DELETE OR INSERT OR UPDATE ON demo REFERENCING NEW AS NEW OLD AS OLD FOR EACH ROW BEGIN if inserting then insert into updateinfo(rnumber,tablename,action,update_date ) values(rownum,'demo', 'insert',sysdate); elsif updating then insert into updateinfo(rnumber,tablename,action,update_date ) values(rownum,'demo', 'update',sysdate); elsif deleting then insert into updateinfo(rnumber,tablename,action,update_date ) values(rownum,'demo', 'delete',sysdate); end if; -- EXCEPTION -- WHEN OTHERS THEN -- Consider logging the error and then re-raise -- RAISE; END TRI_TABLE; but when checking updateinfo, all rnumber column is zero. is there anyway to retrieve the correct row number?

  • Databinding expression for retrieving value of related collection using LINQ

    - by joshb
    I have a GridView that is bound to a LINQDataSource control that is returning a collection of customers. Within my DataGrid I need to display the home phone number of a customer, if they have one. The phone numbers of a customer are stored in a separate table with a foreign key pointing to the customer table. The following binding expression gets me the first phone number for a customer: <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="LastName" SortExpression="LastName"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="PhoneLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Phones[0].PhoneNumber") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> I need to figure out how to get the home phone number specifically (filter based on phone type) and handle the scenario where the customer does not have a home phone in the database. Right now it's throwing an out of range exception if the customer does not have any phone numbers. I've tried using the Where operator with a lambda expression to filter the phone type but it doesn't work: <%# Eval("Phones.Where(p => p.PhoneTypeId == 2).PhoneNumber") %> Solutions or links to any good articles on the subject would be much appreciated.

  • Fill data gaps - UNION, PARTITION BY, or JOIN?

    - by Dave Jarvis
    Problem There are data gaps that need to be filled. Would like to avoid UNION or PARTITION BY if possible. Query Statement The select statement reads as follows: SELECT count( r.incident_id ) AS incident_tally, r.severity_cd, r.incident_typ_cd FROM report_vw r GROUP BY r.severity_cd, r.incident_typ_cd ORDER BY r.severity_cd, r.incident_typ_cd Data Sources The severity codes and incident type codes are from: severity_vw incident_type_vw The columns are: incident_tally severity_cd incident_typ_cd Actual Result Data 36 0 ENVIRONMENT 1 1 DISASTER 27 1 ENVIRONMENT 4 2 SAFETY 1 3 SAFETY Required Result Data 36 0 ENVIRONMENT 0 0 DISASTER 0 0 SAFETY 27 1 ENVIRONMENT 0 1 DISASTER 0 1 SAFETY 0 2 ENVIRONMENT 0 2 DISASTER 4 2 SAFETY 0 3 ENVIRONMENT 0 3 DISASTER 1 3 SAFETY Question How would you use UNION, PARTITION BY, or LEFT JOIN to fill in the zero counts?

  • How To Join Tables from Two Different Contexts with LINQ2SQL?

    - by RSolberg
    I have 2 data contexts in my application (different databases) and need to be able to query a table in context A with a right join on a table in context B. How do I go about doing this in LINQ2SQL? Why?: We are using a SaaS product for tracking our time, projects, etc. and would like to send new service requests to this product to prevent our team from duplicating data entry. Context A: This db stores service request information. It is a third party DB and we are not able to make changes to the structure of this DB as it could have unintended non-supportable consequences downstream. Context B: This data stores the "log" data of service requests that have been processed. My team and I have full control over this DB's structure, etc. Unprocessed service requests should find their way into this DB and another process will identify it as not being processed and send the record to the SaaS product. This is the query that I am looking to modify. I was able to do a !list.Contains(c.swHDCaseId) initially, but this cannot handle more than 2100 items. Is there a way to add a join to the other context? var query = (from c in contextA.Cases where monitoredInboxList.Contains(c.INBOXES.inboxName) select new { //setup fields here... });

  • sql query returns incorrect result

    - by reza saberi
    I have a mysql database that stores quotation documents with some products that are clearly defining the price of each product in them, and a table for contracts storing contract details as well as customer code and quotation code to which it belongs. I have the following query to see how much is the total price of the quotation to write it in the invoice: select sum(sqproducts.price * sqproducts.quantity) as 'total-price', squotations.currency as 'currency' from sqproducts, ccontracts, squotations where sqproducts.contracted=1 AND squotations.code=sqproducts.quotation_code AND sqproducts.quotation_code=ccontracts.squotation_code AND sqproducts.quotation_code='QUOT/2012/1' group by currency

  • MySQL Query involving column names containing math operators

    - by devil_fingers
    I'm a MySQL scrub, and I have asked around and checked around the internet for what I'm sure will turn out to be something obvious, but I'm very frustrated with what I thought would be a very, very simple query not working. So here goes. Please be gentle. Basically, in a large database, some of the column names contain mathematical operators like "/" and "+." (Don't ask, it's not my database, I can't do anything about it). Here is the "essence" of my query (I took out the irrelevant stuff for the sake of this question): SELECT PlayerId, Season, WPA/LI AS WPALI FROM tht.stats_batting_master WHERE Season = "2010" AND teamid > 0 AND PA >= 502 GROUP BY playerid ORDER BY WPALI DESC When I run this, it returns "Unknown column 'LI' in 'field list'," I assume because it sees the "/" in WPA/LI as a division sign. Like I said, I'm sure this is easy enough to work around (it must be given how much this database is used), but I haven't' been able to figure out how. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Increase and decrease row value by 1 in MySQL

    - by Elliott
    Hi I have a MySQL database table "points" the user can click a button and a point should be removed from their account, the button they pressed has an ID of another user, therefore their account must increase by one. I have it working in jQuery and checked the varibles/posts in Firebug, and it does send the correct data, such as: userid= 1 posterid = 4 I think the problem is with my PHP page: <?php include ('../functions.php'); $userid=mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['user_id']); $posterid=mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['poster_id']); if (loggedin()) { include ('../connection.php'); $query1 = "UPDATE `points` SET `points` = `points` - 1 WHERE `userID` = '$userid'"; $result1=mysql_query($query1); $query2 = "UPDATE `points` SET `points` = `points` + 1 WHERE `userID` = '$posterid'"; $result2=mysql_query($query2); if ($result1 && result2) { echo "Successful"; return 1; } else { echo mysql_error(); return 0; } } ?> Any ideas? Thanks :)

    hi, i have wrote a method that filters output with provided query and return it. when one Where excuted; it return correct output but when more than one Where excuted; output is null and Exception occured with message "Enumeration yielded no results". why? how i can fix it? public IQueryable<SearchResult> PerformSearch(string query, int skip = 0, int take = 5) { if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(query)) { var queryList = query.Split('+').ToList(); var results = GENERATERESULTS(); string key; foreach (string _q in queryList) { if (_q.StartsWith("(") && _q.EndsWith(")")) { key = _q.Replace("(", "").Replace(")", ""); results = results.Where(q => q.Title.Contains(key, StringComparison.CurrentCultureIgnoreCase)); } else if (_q.StartsWith("\"") && _q.EndsWith("\"")) { key = _q.Replace("\"", "").Replace("\"", ""); results = results.Where(q => q.Title.Contains(key, StringComparison.CurrentCulture)); } else if (_q.StartsWith("-(") && _q.EndsWith(")")) { key = _q.Replace("-(", "").Replace(")", ""); results = results.Where(q=> !q.Title.Contains(key, StringComparison.CurrentCultureIgnoreCase)); } else { key = _q; results = results.Where(q => q.Title.Contains(key, StringComparison.CurrentCulture)); } } this._Count = results.Count(); results = results.Skip(skip).Take(take); this._EndOn = DateTime.Now; this.ExecutionTime(); return results; } else return null; } thanks in advance ;)

  • sql boolean truth test: zero OR null

    - by AK
    Is there way to test for both 0 and NULL with one equality operator? I realize I could do this: WHERE field = 0 OR field IS NULL But my life would be a hundred times easier if this would work: WHERE field IN (0, NULL) (btw, why doesn't that work?) I've also read about converting NULL to 0 in the SELECT statement (with COALESCE). The framework I'm using would also make this unpleasant. Realize this is oddly specific, but is there any way to test for 0 and NULL with one WHERE predicate?

  • Ways to implement tags - pros and cons of each

    - by bobobobo
    Related Using SO as an example, what is the most sensible way to manage tags if you anticipate they will change often? Way 1: Seriously denormalized (comma delimited) table posts +--------+-----------------+ | postId | tags | +--------+-----------------+ | 1 | c++,search,code | Here tags are comma delimited. Pros: Tags are retrieved at once with a single select query. Updating tags is simple. Easy and cheap to update. Cons: Extra parsing on tag retrieval, difficult to count how many posts use which tags. (alternatively, if limited to something like 5 tags) table posts +--------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+ | postId | tag_1 | tag_2 | tag_3 | tag_4 | tag_5 | +--------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+ | 1 | c++ |search | code | | | Way 2: "Slightly normalized" (separate table, no intersection) table posts +--------+-------------------+ | postId | title | +--------+-------------------+ | 1 | How do u tag? | table taggings +--------+---------+ | postId | tagName | +--------+---------+ | 1 | C++ | | 1 | search | Pros: Easy to see tag counts (count(*) from taggings where tagName='C++'). Cons: tagName will likely be repeated many, many times. Way 3: The cool kid's (normalized with intersection table) table posts +--------+---------------------------------------+ | postId | title | +--------+---------------------------------------+ | 1 | Why is a raven like a writing desk? | table tags +--------+---------+ | tagId | tagName | +--------+---------+ | 1 | C++ | | 2 | search | | 3 | foofle | table taggings +--------+---------+ | postId | tagId | +--------+---------+ | 1 | 1 | | 1 | 2 | | 1 | 3 | Pros: No repeating tag names. More girls will like you. Cons: More expensive to change tags than way #1.

  • advanced select in Stored Procedure

    - by Auro
    Hey i got this Table: CREATE TABLE Test_Table ( old_val VARCHAR2(3), new_val VARCHAR2(3), Updflag NUMBER, WorkNo NUMBER ); and this is in my Table: INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('1',' 20',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('2',' 20',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('2',' 30',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('3',' 30',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('4',' 40',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('4',' 40',0,0); now my Table Looks like this: Row Old_val New_val Updflag WorkNo 1 '1' ' 20' 0 0 2 '2' ' 20' 0 0 3 '2' ' 30' 0 0 4 '3' ' 30' 0 0 5 '4' ' 40' 0 0 6 '5' ' 40' 0 0 (if the value in the new_val column are same then they are together and the same goes to old_val) so in the example above row 1-4 are together and row 5-6 at the moment i have in my Stored Procedure a cursor: SELECT t1.Old_val, t1.New_val, t1.updflag, t1.WorkNo FROM Test_Table t1 WHERE t1.New_val = ( SELECT t2.New_val FROM Test_Table t2 WHERE t2.Updflag = 0 AND t2.Worknr = 0 AND ROWNUM = 1 ) the output is this: Row Old_val New_val Updflag WorkNo 1 1 20 0 0 2 2 20 0 0 my Problem is, i dont know how to get row 1 to 4 with one select. (i had an idea with 4 sub-querys but this wont work if its more data that matches together) does anyone of you have an idea?

  • No operations allowed after statement closed issue

    - by Washu
    I have the next methods in my singleton to execute the JDBC connections public void openDB() throws ClassNotFoundException, IllegalAccessException, InstantiationException, SQLException { Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance(); String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/mbpe_peru";//mydb conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, "root", "admin"); st = conn.createStatement(); } public void sendQuery(String query) throws SQLException { st.executeUpdate(query); } public void closeDB() throws SQLException { st.close(); conn.close(); } And I'm having a problem in a void where i have to call this twice. private void jButton1ActionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) { Main.getInstance().openDB(); Main.getInstance().sendQuery("call insertEntry('"+EntryID()+"','"+SupplierID()+"');"); Main.getInstance().closeDB(); Main.getInstance().openDB(); for(int i=0;i<dataBox.length;i++){ Main.getInstance().sendQuery("call insertCount('"+EntryID()+"','"+SupplierID()+"','"+BoxID()+"'); Main.getInstance().closeDB(); } } I have already tried to keep the connection open and send the 2 querys and after that closed and it didnt work... The only way it worked was to not use the methods, declare the commands for the connection and use different variables for the connection and the statement. I thought that if i close the Connecion and the Statement I could use the variable once again since is a method but I'm not able to. Is there any way to solve this using my methods for the JDBC connection?

  • Indexed key vs indexed separate columns, which one is faster ?

    - by Jerry
    In MYSQL, from a pure performance perspective, if I have a table with large amount of data with 10/1 read/write ratio. is it faster in read/write performance to have 4 search criteria in separate columns and all indexed or have them combined in to one single string acting as a key and store in one indexed column ? e.g. say this table with 5 columns, first name, last name, sex, country and file where the first four columns will ALWAYS be given as a part of search parameters in a search or have a table with two columns, key and file. where the value of key can be john-smith-male-australia ?? I don't quite get the pros and cons. the point I try to stress is the fact that all parameters will be given.in a search.

  • Reading from an write-only(OUT) parameter in pl/sql

    - by sqlgrasshopper5
    When I tried writing to an read-only parameter(IN) of a function, Oracle complains with an error. But that is not the case when reading from an write-only(OUT) parameter of a function. Oracle silently allows this without any error. What is the reason for this behaviour?. The following code executes without any assignment happening to "so" variable: create or replace function foo(a OUT number) return number is so number; begin so := a; --no assignment happens here a := 42; dbms_output.put_line('HiYA there'); dbms_output.put_line('VAlue:' || so); return 5; end; / declare somevar number; a number := 6; begin dbms_output.put_line('Before a:'|| a); somevar := foo(a); dbms_output.put_line('After a:' || a); end; / Here's the output I got: Before a:6 HiYA there VAlue: After a:42
