• Small font all 'new' messages suddenly in Gmail on Ubuntu in Opera, why?

  This seemed to happen out of the blue. I have been using Opera for years. I can't find anywhere in Gmail to change the default font that is used in Opera. Ubuntu is Version 11 Opera is version 11.6 In Firefox the font is normal size. I have tried playing around with both all the browser setting I can find plus Ubuntu system settings (I had seen some mentions of Opera using the system default font sometimes) but no success so far. Really bumming as I have been using Opera for two years and if I can't resolve it I will not be able to use it. I can switch to Firefox but I don't want to.

• Best way to restrict FTP access to a single directory?

  I have a VPS running Ubuntu 10.04, and I'd like to give someone SFTP access to a single directory, but prevent them from seeing anything else on the system. What's the best way to pull this off? I considered removing "everyone" permissions from everything on the system, but that seems like a really blunt tool for this problem (and one that'll cause other issues) - I'm hoping there's a better option here. Edit: I appreciate the answers! (And I learned a bunch reading/researching through them). • How does the "Full Control" permission differ from manually giving all other permissions?

  On Windows Server 2003, and some other versions of Windows, the Properties > Security tab of a folder's or file's context menu provides "Allow" and "Deny" options for "Full Control," "Modify," "Read" and other permissions (graphic provided). After clicking "Full Control," all boxes in the column — except for "Special Permissions" — get automatically checked. What's the difference between checking "Full Control" and just checking all the other boxes individually? Are there hidden/advanced permissions toggled by "Full Control" that aren't listed in the main permissions window? Is "Full Control" just a convenience shortcut?

  I'm in the midst of resolving a bunch of security issues on a clients server to get them compliant with credit card laws and such. The first order of business is getting php from 5.2.14 to 5.2.16. Is there something similar for CentOS? This output makes it look like it's ignoring all the main package repos as well.

• Tips for locating my stolen computer

  I'm in a bit of a panic, my new Powerbook laptop was stolen. I had no mobile me, or security software installed on the computer. I have the mac address of the computer as well as the serial number. Is there a hacky way to do this? I was even thinking perhaps of trying to use bluetooth, I know I had it set to discoverable. and I know the "name" of the computer, perhaps there is app that can scan the names of bluetooh computers in the vicinity? If there some third party you can get to scan the internet for your mac address? Any glimmer of hope would really help

• Snow Leopard Windows 7 File sharing issue

  Hello, wondering if anyone might have any suggestions on how to fix this issue in file sharing between Snow Leopard and Windows 7. On my home network, I have a system running windows 7 which acts as a file server: \WINDOWS7-A\SHARE I also have an IMac which can access the file share most of the time.... however now comes the problem, as soon as I introduce my Windows 7 Laptop and copy files over from it onto the file server (\Windows7-A), the file server become no longer accessible from the Snow Leopard machine... I assume this somehow has to do with elevated security on the network share having been negotiated between the 2 Windows 7 machines which is no longer allowing the Mac to see the Windows machines... but not sure how to disable this, as the only way I can restore communication between the mac and the Windows 7 machine is to restart it... less than ideal... Any suggestions would be welcome.

• WAN and LAN setup for IPv6

  We just got a IPv6 /48 range (a gateway and an IP address) for our company, but I'm unsure about how to set it up. We use FreeBSD 8.4 (pfSense 2.1) as a router/firewall. Currently we have IPv4 setup with a WAN towards the internet, and a NAT-ed LAN behind it for office PCs. We want to keep the LAN network for security, and we want IPv6 addresses from the /48 for all office PCs (without NAT). The WAN is configured with the IPv6 gateway 1111:2222:3333::1/48 and interface address 1111:2222:3333::2/48. But when it's configured this way, I guess it's impossible to fit the LAN on a /64 within the /48? I believe I should configure the WAN subnet on 1111:2222:3333:1::/64 and the LAN on a subnet like 1111:2222:3333:2::/64. Is this something I can configure myself, or do I have to ask the ISP to configure that routing for me?

• Odd behavior of permissions and icons

  After some virus had infected my Windows 7, I did a complete format and re-installed the OS. I was just installing applications and copying back some data when I noticed some shortcuts changing their icons to something I couldnt recognize (Yellow icons in the image below). Also, a few exe files which previously did not ask for User permission, are now asking for it. Wondering if this is an icon cache problem, I cleared the cache by deleting the IconCache.db in AppData/Local but the problem still persists. Although I did a full system scan with MS Security Essentials, I'm not sure if this is another virus or some other problem. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Edit: Now even Firefox needs permissions to launch. It's icon hasnt changed, but it's got the 'shield' overlay on it like the other yellow icons.

• Access server bound to localhost:5000 from different computer

  I am working on a web application using the Pylons framework. The web server is binding to localhost:5000 so I am able to access my application by going to localhost:5000 in my browser. I would like to be able to access the server from another computer on the same network. The computer that is hosting the server and application is running Mac OSX and the computer I would like to be able to access the application is running Windows 7 (I have cygwin with SSH installed as well as PuTTY). I could work around this by binding to the host name of the computer but would rather leave it running only on localhost. I was thinking I could do something with SSH tunneling but have not had any luck so far. Any ideas?

I developed an app using C# and SQL Server Express 2012 with a local database, my connection string is"Data Source=localhost ; Initial Catalog = scalnet ; Integrated Security=SSPI; Trusted_Connection=Yes"; Everything worked ok till the time I made a setup and tried to install my app in another computer. My first question is: - What version of SQL should I install is this machine? it should be as ligth as possible. - I tried to install SQL exprees 2012 but it gives me an error when I execute my app "A network related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a ..... (provider:Named Pipes Provider, error:40 - Could not open a connection to SQL server." This probably should be a problem with the server configuration but I have no ideia how to solve this...   For each development sites I want to have a unique port number. For instance, domain.com:1234 This is what I have in my httpd.conf file. After restart the page domain.com:1234 is not showing in the browser. Is there anything else that I need to do besides what I have already done to make this work? Listen *:1234 <VirtualHost *:1234> DocumentRoot /var/www/dev_sites/test ServerName domain.com:1234 </VirtualHost> It looks like if I go to my local hostname (kk.local:1234) it shows. Is there some sort of dns that I need to do? I really don't want to go into godaddy everytime I add a development site. Is there a way around that?

• Can't rename folders in Window 7/32bit after anti-virus change

  I recently started having the common, as I realized, problem of not being able to rename folders in Windows 7 (32 bit). I don't understand why it happened after almost a year of ideal use of Windows 7. I haven't removed the libraries nor can I think of anything else that could potentially cause this, at least as far as I know. The only thing I did recently was to change my anti-virus program from the freeware version of Avira to the freeware anti-virus Microsoft Security Essentials. Any idea on what the problem is and how to fix this?

• Group Policy dealing with IE zone assignment not sticking!

  I have a group policy (which ONLY deals with the zone assignment) -that is continually switching on and off with reboots. I thought it was a conflicting group policy but when I run group policy modeling report it doesn't show any descrepancies that I can see. I thought it may be an issue with one domain controller wasn't replicating my policy change to the other one, but this isn't the case. I checked both domain controllers and they show the same information. The assignment is on a user basis and is in: user configuration > administrative templates > windows components > internet explorer > internet control panel > security and is site to zone assignment.

• Excel 2010 -Excel cannot complete this task with available resources

  Getting this error when trying to sort a document (Excel cannot complete this task with available resources). Document isn't particularly large, about 4,000 lines. Can't seem to figure out why this would start on this. I can sort this same file fine on everything back to Excel 2000 on older crappy computers. Computer is running Win 7 x64, 16 Gb RAM, and another 16 Gb of virtual. There's no possible way that all of the memory is actually getting exhausted when I can perform this on an older XP machine with 512 Mb of RAM, unless 2010's memory usage is inconceivably poorly designed. I found a few posts on forums stating that there might be a security update related bug. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The airport extreme gets it's external IP address via PPPoE, and sometimes... once a week it changes. For security reasons WE ACTUALLY like this behavior. But i need a way to know the external IP address just in case i need to connect and do something to the server while on the outside. What can i do?

  I have a squid proxy running on 192.168.1.2 on port 3000. with Squid i am able to connect to internet and browse websites but skype is not connecting even after i specified proxy server in it.   Can I get my Nexus One/Android on my local network over USB instead of WiFi and browse to my computer's IP address, the one to which the phone would be connected to, via USB? For instance, let's say my computer has an IP address 100.1.1.1 and when I go to it from the computer I would go to my localhost and see a website I've set up locally in the computer. Then, I connect my phone to that computer via USB. Can I then go to 100.1.1.1 from the browser and see the same website? All this through the USB, no WiFi?

  I have moved old version of webpage to some subdirectory: http://www.smth.com/old/. But all resources (images, css, etc.) in HTML are linked with slash symbol at the start. So browser still tries to load them from root path. For example old/test.html contains: <img src="/images/lma_logo.ico" /> <!-- not working !--> <img src="images/lma_logo.ico" /> <!-- working !--> How can I rewrite ulrs to load resources from the "old" dir if urls still starts with "/"?

• Autosaving on emacs or xemacs files (preferably on loss of focus)

  Ideally I want to replicate with emacs functionality from TextMate, whereby on loss of focus i.e. I click away from the buffer, my file saves. If this isn't possible, I want to customize emacs so that it will autosave the file for every character I write. When I say this I don't mean I want to autosave to the ~ backup files. I want to save the file I am currently working on. I am working on a Fedora VM. Note I am not looking for a backup or autosave. I want the file I am actually in to save, so that if I loaded the html file I am editing in a web browser it would reflect my new changes without me having to explicitly change it.

• IIS doesn't respond to 127.0.0.1 (external IP works fine)

  I have an AWS web server - call it box.company.com. It's running IIS and if I visit http://box.company.com in a web browser (from any machine, including box.company.com), it responds correctly with our site. However, if I visit localhost/ or 127.0.0.1/ when I'm logged into box.company.com, I get a "couldn't connect to host" message. The hosts file has only one entry - the standard "127.0.0.1 localhost" line. Pinging 127.0.0.1 works fine. Pinging localhost correctly resolves to 127.0.0.1 and works fine. I've tried restarting IIS and restarting the DNS Cache. I had this problem once before, and restarting the server fixed it, but I'd like to know what's going on in case this happens again in the future.
