• advice on how to create dynamic controls

  Hi, My web page will get a set of results from the database and display it to the user. However I am not sure about "number" of results. Each result will have a panel which contains several controls in itself, an image, several labels, etc. What is the best way to do this dynamically, eg. create these controls dynamically?   Hi all I am trying to use a $.post() in the following way: $.post("file.php", { file_id: $(this).val()}, function(data){...} The file.php then does a database query and returns an array with a title, description and image reference. What I want to do then is be able to update the .val() for form fields for each. I understand how to do this on a single variable, it would just be the following: $.post("file.php", { file_id: $(this).val()}, function(data){ $('#title').val(data); } But, how do I get the data returned to be recognizable in jquery as either separate variables or as an array?   My first view displays an image and action indicator while web-servers and database function are run in that background. I want the application to go to my tab view when the functions have been completed. How do I do this? Here is what the views look like. • Rails - set POST request limit (file upload)

  I am building a file uploader for Rails, using CarrierWave. I am pretty happy about it's API, except that I don't seem to be able to cut file uploads that exceed a limit on the fly. I found this plugin for validation, but the problem is that it happens after the upload is completed. It is completely unacceptable in my case, as any user could take the site down by uploading a huge file. So, I figure that the way would be to use some Rack configuration or middleware that will limit POST body size as it receives. I am hosting on Heroku, as context. *I am aware of https://github.com/dwilkie/carrierwave_direct but it doesn't solve my issue as I have to resize first and discard the original large image.

• Button height rendering inconsistency in Firefox - why are input elements taller?

  Consider the following two elements: <button type="submit" class="button">Test</button> <a href="#" class="button">Test 2</a> ...which use the following style definition: .button { background-color: yellow; color: white; border: 1px solid orange; display: inline-block; font-size: 24pt; padding: 2px 16px; text-decoration: none; } This produces two buttons beside each other with an equal height in Chrome. However, Firefox renders the button on the left with a height 1px greater than the button on the right (the <a>): (I've enlarged the image above by 2x.) • What Android version to target?

  I'm about to write my first Android app. It's a fairly basic app that doesn't use any special features beyond being able to schedule notifications and read/write image files to the device's local storage. Reaching the broadest audience is my top priority. If I target Android 1.5, is the app guaranteed to run fine all the way up to ICS? Should I target Android 2.1, which seems to be the new baseline for common phones in use? Since the app is fairly basic, if I target ICS, would it run on versions going all the way back to 2.1? Maybe this is a stupid question.

  I need a Swing component that will let me display a tree-structured list of items, and allow the user to select or de-select an arbitrary subset of those items, with the ability to select or deselect an entire subtree's worth of components by picking that subtree's parent. (Basically, something similar to the Eclipse "Export JAR file's" dialog (an image of the relevant dialog is here - I basically want the "Select resources to export" component, but for a Swing application.) I know I can do this by creating a custom TreeCellRenderer, a custom TreeCellEditor, and a custom TreeModel - but that seems like an awful lot of work. Are there any good off-the-shelf implementations that I can use? Thanks!

I have googled but I have only found solutions using Java Script or Flash or so. It is also possible using CSS3 @keyframes. But the problem is that IE and Opera do not support it. I'm looking for a pure CSS solution which is also compatible.

• WP7 How to use a Storyboard

  I wish to stop using the DispatcherTimer to show animations as that is extremely unpredictable. Instead, I want to start using a Storyboard as that is apparently the best and efficient way to animate controls. I have tried searching for Tutorials but have not, unfortunately, stumbled on one yet. Can anyone please advice me where I can begin? For example, "moving an image across the screen" and then "moving many images at the same time whilst rotating them". Any help is highly appreciated.

• Android Google Play Services Error whilst Connecting

  I am attempting to implement the Google Play Services into my Game to add a Leaderboard. However, whenever I try to connect, I get the following error message: I have correctly imported google-play-services_lib into my project, and AdMob is working perfectly. This error message comes up after it tries to login. The account with which I am logging in, is authorized as a Test account so that shouldn't be the issue. There are no error messages in the LogCat window either. All I got was that Error Message from the image. Project hierarchy : I am assuming that simply Extending the Activity from BaseGameActivity should handle everything for me right?

  Hello, I would like to hear your suggestions on kind of design problem which I have in c#. So, I am making a program where people can meet and draw in the same window over the internet or LAN. I am drawing into a bitmap and than I set it to a pictureBox component. I have a hard time to decide how to send updates to each user, what is the best way to do it. Should I send coordinates of mouse and than do the drawing on each users screen or stream the image to each. Maybe you know better solution to keep it synchronized and efficient. Thank you.

• Qt : crash due to delete (trying to handle exceptions...)

  I am writing a program with Qt, and I would like it to show a dialog box with a Exit | Restart choice whenever an error is thrown somewhere in the code. What I did causes a crash and I really can't figure out why it happens, I was hoping you could help me understanding what's going on. The code I've written above works, but as far as I understand, there's a memory leak: I should uncomment the line //delete window_; in My_Application::exit() and My_Application::restart(). But when I do that, the program crashes when I click restart (or exit but who cares). (I'm not sure this is useful, in fact it might be misleading, but here's what my debugger tells me: a segmentation fault occurs in QWidgetPrivate::PaintOnScreen() const which is called by a function called by a function... called by My_Application::notify()) When I do some std::couts, I notice that the program runs through the entire restart() function and in fact through the entire notify() function before it crashes. I have no idea why it crashes. Thanks in advance for your insights! Update: I've noticed that My_Application::notify() is called very often. For example, it is called a bunch of times while the error dialog box is open, also during the execution of the restart function. The crash actually occurs in the subfunction QApplication::notify(receiver, event). This is not too surprising in light of the previous remark (the receiver has probably been deleted) But even if I forbid the function My_Application::notify() to do anything while restart() is executed, it still crashes (after having called My_Application::notify() a bunch of times, like 15 times, isn't that weird)? How should I proceed? Maybe I should say (to make the question slightly more relevant) that my class My_Application also has a "restore" function, which I've not copied here to try to keep things short. If I just had that restart feature I wouldn't bother too much, but I do want to have that restore feature. I should also say that if I keep the code with the "delete window_" commented, the problem is not only a memory leak, it still crashes sometimes apparently. There must surely be a way to fix this! But I'm clueless, I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks in advance.

Am I saving and retrieving the file correctly? If not, whats wrong with the code? NOTE: The issue appears only to occur in the Windows environment. When run on linux, it works fine... very confused.

• quickflip + slideshow animation

  I have been trying to integrate quickflip and a slideshow animation. So everytime when the user hovers over the image, it would pause the animation and "flip to the other side". When the user hovers out, it would then replace its normal state. The problem is here is I do not know how to handle the quickflip code (http://jonraasch.com/blog/quickflip-2-jquery-plugin). I have looked at the sample code and tried to replace it, but at the end the animations would get messed up... • How can I make the small icon(16x16)?

  Hi All, I found it difficult to make small icons look clear and clean. For instance, I made the 16x16 size icons, they looked ok in PS or AI, but after saved them as some other image types, they are not that clear at all. Is that because i used wrong color or wrong tools? I wonder if there are some special tools for making extremely small icons. So any options? How i can make them look more clear and clean?   I've written a simple script that displays circles over an image. • How to load a script without blocking the whole page on Google Chrome?

  I'm developing a website that uses an Ajax plugin to like/dislike/comments an item. But when there are multiple items on the same page, the page takes too long to be displayed. On google chrome for instance, for 10 items you have to wait something like 10 seconds before you can see anything. But in Firefox, and IE 8, the other elements of the page are displayed, and only the likes/dislikes take some time. But the advantage is that they are displayed as soon as they are loaded. So this is much better. So how come Google Chrome is less efficient than Firefox and IE? Is there a trick to display on Chrome the page like in Firefox?
