  Hot dog. IE 9 just hit the download sites this week. I have been running it for a few days and its really sweet. It seems much faster than IE 8 and many other browsers and its got lots of cool features. Some of the ones I really like are: New tab format with one click creation and putting them up top. • Video Bug in Ubuntu 12.10 MSI CX623 laptop

  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xyJkS8XjgA&feature=youtu.be I managed to take a video with what happens on my Ubuntu 12.10 laptop when I play with the volume and hover with the mouse over the slider and when I press Ctrl + Alt + D (show Desktop/minimize all) The real bugs are those in which the panel becomes transparent on the down side, exactly above the volume slider (and not only when that slider appears, but also when brightness slider appears, and when blocking my touchpad applet appears) and when I have a maximized window, more maximized windows or a non maximized window that touches the panel, while I use Ctrl+Alt+D (show Desktop/hide all normal windows). Is there a way to solve this bug? PS: The other bugs are from Record My Desktop. I didn't have the mentioned bugs in ubuntu 12.04, but I like more the graphics in 12.10.

• UIDocumentInteractionController in iOS for Whatsapp Integration

  I was looking for a way to share my application created files through Whatsapp. I found we can chat using custom URL scheme provided by whatsapp : https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/iphone/23559013. But, to share files of my app, read that I have to use DicumentIntercationController. So, is there any smaple available? Also, when I read about apple docs, it says, "Create an instance of the UIDocumentInteractionController class for each file you want to interact with" (https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/FileManagement/Conceptual/DocumentInteraction_TopicsForIOS/Articles/PreviewingandOpeningItems.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40010410-SW1). So is it necessary to create instance for each file? I just want to share the files as and when i receive it through my service to my app. Thanks for the help in advance.

  I'd like to join three ideas into one interesting and sometimes useful feature. There was a question about using multiple passwords earlier this year, but it didn't receive much attention. I'd like to ask the question again after showing an interesting and new way to use the feature. • As good as no bounces are registered in Google Analytics [on hold]

  For a client I am having an issue for which I can't find an explanation. For some reason, bounces are no longer measured (or almost none) in GA. In GA I can see that the issue started in January 2013. I have been looking at the code inside and out, but I can't find any reason why. On the production site, there is (will be removed soon) a POST done on page load, so I thought that Google might see this as user interaction, hence never counting a bounce, but on staging i removed this POST and in the GA account for staging, still no bounces are registered. I have also checked if the tracking code appears twice on the page, and this is not the case. I tried with the GA debug plugin in Firefox and Chrome to see if that would learn me anything, but no luck... The site in question is www.kiala.be.

  I made a widget that would ideally live on other sites. Here is an example: http://www.comehike.com/outdoors/widget.php?type=hike&hike_id=108&width=500&height=500 I guess since the widget would link back to me, it would be an SEO boost for my site. Is that correct? Or would it be just an SEO boost for that particular URL? If it is just an SEO boost for the particular URL, it does me little good since that page does not link to any of my other pages. Am I thinking about this correctly? How are these things typically handled so that there is a benefit to my site's SEO?

• Has Dart something useful that javascript doesn't have?

  http://www.dartlang.org/ I've checked out the site very briefly, and got curious. Is there any advantages of using Dart? Is it just a replacement for javascript? It looks like simpler java. Writing quite a lot of C# at work, the language feels very much like what I'm used to, so learning the syntax looks like a breeze to learn. Has anybody any opinions or experiences with the language? (Compared to coffeescript (= I'm not doing ruby syntax) the syntax looks more familiar to me).

• SSL on multiple directories

  I have a website that is http, but has a port set up for https for a specific directory that is for the shopping cart. Now I'd like to use our SSL on a different directory in the same site as well. How can I go about configuring that? I have tried looking into all of the config files as well as the docs and cannot figure it out. I tried setting this in httpd.config as well <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:[ssl port]> #also tried *:[ssl port] and [actual IP]:[ssl port] ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "C:/path/sslNeededDir" ServerName www.example.com </VirtualHost> hoping that it would cause pages in this directory to use ssl port and become https, but that didn't do anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Update: This finally got migrated over. I'm still looking for a solid answer on this. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

• Do I really need to remove special characters in a URL?

  I have an FTP account shared with friends where we upload underground music albums and then we use the links to share the downloads in a music forum. The problem is that the album names are in french so there is a lot of special characters in the name. So the URL looks like http://www.mydomain.com/downloads/Some Band - En français avec des caractères spéciaux (2013) [7'' EP].zip For me it works perfectly and I can download the file by using this URL, but I have read everywhere that special chars are bad in URL. Is there any reason why I must remove the special characters or encode the URL? Is everyone able to access a URL with special characters or will some older browsers not be able to download the files? I really don't care about SEO or anything else. I just want the download links to work for everyone. Since the files are uploaded through FTP, I can't use PHP to remove the special characters with a regex, so I really don't know what to do.

• What is the best taxonomy from Google's perspective?

  I was wondering what the best way is to structure a new website in Google's eyes. Currently, it contains two top-level categories (X & Y), and clicking a term under either one will result in the URL: www.nameofsite.com/X/X type term, or /Y/Y type term Technically, it is correct to group all "X type terms" under X and "Y type terms" under Y, but we could probably be more granular and break all articles into 5-6 top-level categories by breaking Y up into more specific categories. Given that the current URL structure will eventually result in 1000's of "X type terms" and "Y type terms" under just two top-level categories, would it be more advisable to have several of these, as suggested?   I have an issue with Google Analytics, can't seem to find a guide how to activate Demographics and Interests reports. • Facebook likes reset after moving to HTTPS

  I've got a question regarding the Facebook like button. We worked on a piece recently that embeds a number of social share buttons (please see the source code below). When the piece was released, it was on HTTP, and received over 2k likes (the URL 'slug' hasn't changed at all). The site was recently migrated to permanent-on HTTPS, and the like data has been reset, and we've been left with 50 new, recent likes. If you see in the source code, the URL is set explicitly to like the HTTP version, which I believe to be correct. Can anyone help me work out what's happened here? So, when you are starting a new application (doesn't matter what it is), what is in your toolbox? • Making a physicalized melee weapon

  The short version, is that I was asked to look into the feasibility of making a melee weapon, that one could swing at another object in the game, and have it interact physically. I completed the tutorial here http://www.mavrikgames.com/tutorials/melee-weapons, and proved that indeed it is. The thing is, that only for a brief period in the swing is the sword capable of knocking things around. I've looked through the editor and code for awhile now, and I'm still not sure how to do this. I was able to lengthen the amount of time it takes the animations run for, but not the length of time with which the sword can bash the barrel around.

• 12.04 LTS usb wont boot

  I've tried to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS parallel with Windows 8, on my laptop Clevo m767yu But when I try to boot from USB it just stops when it's trying to read the files. it stops and shows this picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/np3ptvvmasv7ax2/IMAG0097.jpg If I try to boot from a cd, it stops and shows a cursor blinking. I've tried both usb and cd on other computers, and the both works. I've a little experience with Ubuntu, but I have never had problems with the installing process. Any help will be appreciated!
