  • iPhone SDK UI element preview

    - by Michael
Looking for some catalog/gallery(not UICatalog, just images), where I can see preview of each UI element in iPhone SDK, along with corresponding class name(eg datetime picker, calendar, the black switch bar on bottom). This will give me rough idea on which UI elements I can use in my app and go read about corresponding class.

  • Stick element to bottom-right corner (AS3 - Adobe AIR)?

    - by Martti Laine
Hello I'm creating a simple AIR app with resize-functionality. Of course i need to position a resize-arrow to the bottom-right corner. Here's my code: stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, handleResize); function handleResize(e:Event):void{ resize_btn.y = stage.stageHeight-resize_btn.height; } This doesn't work, my button gets out of the window very quickly. How could I make this work? Martti Laine

  • Mobile Safari 5mb HTML5 application cache limit?

    - by JFH
It's becoming evident in my testing that there's a 5mb size limit on Mobile Safari's implementation of HTML5's application cache. Does anyone know how to circumvent or raise this? Is there some unexposed meta tag that I should know about? I have to cache some video content for an offline app and 5mb is not going to be enough.

  • Catch Exception in Application Startup (VS.Net)

    - by clawson
I'm getting a System.NullReferenceException when my application starts up (after a small login screen) which doesn't crash the entire app but prevents it from loading correctly. How can I get the VS.Net debugger to stop at the error so I can fix it? The output I'm getting in the Immediate Window is: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in GrelisCrampApp.exe

  • iPhone: how to make key click sound for custom keypad?

    - by Kaffeine Coma
Is there a way to programmatically invoke the keypad "click" sound? My app has a custom keypad (built out of UIButtons) and I'd like to provide some audio feedback when the user taps on the keys. I tried creating my own sounds in Garageband, but wasn't happy with any of my creations. If there isn't a standard way to invoke the key click, can anyone point me to a library of sounds that might have such a gem?

    - by Nissan Fan
New to Objective-C iPhone/iPod touch/iPad development, but I'm starting to discover lots of power in one-liners of code such as this: [UIApplication sharedApplication].applicationIconBadgeNumber = 10; Which will display that distinctive red notification badge on your app iphone with the number 10. Please share you favorite one-liners in Objective-C for the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad here.

  • notification scheduling question

    - by sims
Hi Stackers! I'm building an app that needs to send out notifications to users depending on user definable "notifications". So the notifications are not per event. They are arbitrary. A cron job should query the database and send out emails when it finds an event with matching criterion. The is a scheduling app. So naturally, one of the criterion is time. I think I've figured it out, but I'm sure there are better ideas out there as it seems to be a fairly common thing to do. I think I'll limit the users ability to "minutes before hand" to get notified as opposed to seconds or hours. So I have an eventA and notificationA. notificationA should be triggered if an event is due within 45 minutes. So eventA starts at 17:30. The user should be notified at 16:45. But the cron job might not run exactly at 00 seconds. So when the difference is not 45 minutes and 0 seconds it is, say, 45 minutes and 5 seconds. Notification time is past. Email doesn't get sent. User misses event. Shugar. We should also take into account that the cron job might take a long time to run. So maybe we should only trigger it every 5 minutes. So we need a bigger interval maybe. So then my guess would be to say that: if ((eventDueTime - now notificationTimeValue - interval) && (eventDueTime - now < notificationTimeValue + interval)) sendTheFrikinNotificationAlready(); It seems kind of risky if the there are thousands of notifications to send out. I guess I could make a thread for each notification and then a thread for each event that matches the criterion. That might help. Does that make sense? Any other ideas? Thanks!

  • Memory layout of executable

    - by Ross
Hi all, When loading an executable then segments like the code, data, bss and so on need to be placed in memory. I am just wondering, if someone could tell me where on a standard x86 for example the libc library is placed. Is that at the top or bottom of memory. My guess is at the bottom, close to the application code, ie., that would look something like this here: --------- 0x1000 Stack | V ^ | Heap ---------- Data + BSS ---------- App Code ---------- libc ---------- 0x0000 Thanks a lot, Ross

  • How do I create a Solution Wide Connection String

    - by Renier
Hi. Does anyone know if it is possible to create a single connection string that will be accessible to all the projects in a solution (we have about 6). I can create a text file with this information, but we need design time support as well, and it is not practical to have a connection string in every App.Config and Web.config file in the solution. We basically want a Single connection string that is easy to change should the location of the db change, that will also be used by the IDE for design time support Regards, Renier

  • ClientRoleProvider and role caching...

    - by Kieron
Hi, Is it possible to disable to the role caching when using the ClientRoleProvider? The application in question is a console application... I've tried setting 'cacheRolesInCookie' to false (I know it's a console app, but I was running low on ideas!) - but it had no affect.

  • How can I parse raw email source and extract the HTML part?

    - by Matthew Brindley
In my iPhone app, I'm handed the raw source of an email, in RFC822 (or "eml") format. I'd like the HTML part of this message (if one exists). Rather than attempting to parse it out myself and converting escape chars and so on, I thought I'd check to see if anyone knows of an objective-c library to do this for me. In .NET, I've always used the Mailbee classes for anything email related, but I can't seem to find anything similar for cocoa.

  • Broken images and security warnings in Facebook Connect

    - by Adam
I'm hoping this is just a bug on Facebook's end that will be fixed soon, but in my Facebook Connect app I'm launching the dialogue FB provides to make a post. This dialogue is launched on a page with an SSL connection. In this dialogue the profile pic for some users comes up with a security warning while others display correctly. I'm already setup to use Facebook's SSL javascript file instead of the HTTP file.

  • Conflicting ruby versions

    - by DavidP6
I am having problems with conflicting versions of Ruby that I have installed. I had 1.8.6 and then installed 1.8.7 and it has caused problems. I get the following error when trying to run my ruby on rails app: /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/i686-linux/rbconfig.rb:7: ruby lib version (1.8.6) doesn't match executable version (1.8.7) (RuntimeError) I would like to remove 1.8.7 somehow and just use 1.8.6 but have no idea how to go about doing this.

  • Rails "NoMethodError" with sub-resources

    - by Tchock
Hi. I'm a newbie Rails developer who is getting the following error when trying to access the 'new' action on my CityController: undefined method `cities_path' for #<#<Class:0x104608c18>:0x104606f08> Extracted source (around line #2): 1: <h1>New City</h1> 2: <%= form_for(@city) do |f| %> 3: <%= f.error_messages %> 4: 5: <div class="field"> As some background, I have a State model with many Cities. I'm getting this error after clicking on the following link coming from a State show page: <p>Add a city: <%= link_to "Add city", new_state_city_path(@state) %></p> When I run 'rake:routes' it says this is a legit route... For more background, here is the CityController 'new' action: def new @city = City.new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @city } end end Here is the (complete) form in the view: <%= form_for(@city) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :name %><br /> <%= f.text_field :name %> </div> <div class="actions"> <%= f.submit %> </div> <% end %> This initially made me think that it's a resources/routes issue since it came back with a mention of 'cities_path' (in fact, that's what another person posting to Stack Overflow had wrong (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/845315/rails-error-nomethoderror-my-first-ruby-app). However, that doesn't seem to be the case from what I can see. Here are how my resources look in my routes file: resources :states do resources :cities end I can get it working when they are not sub-resources, but I really need to keep them as sub-resources for my future plans with the app. Any help would be very much appreciated, since I've been racking my brains on this for more hours than I would care to admit... Thanks! (Not sure this matters at all, but I'm running the very latest version of Rails 3 beta2).
