• Mysql console slow on import of huge sql files

  My import of sql via the mysql console is rather slow and as our sql file is increasing every day I would like to know if there are any alternatives on how to import a sql file faster. Changing to oracle or other systems is no option, the configuration has to stay the same. Currently the sql file is: 1.5 Gb I'm on Wamp with Apache 2.2.14, PHP 5.2.11 and MySQL 5.1.41. Any suggestions?

• htaccess with wildcard SSL

  We have a Wildcard SSL Certificate that is supposed to work on any subdomain of a given domain. So in this server we have this file structure: /home/DOMAIN/public_html/subdomainx /home/DOMAIN/public_html/subdomainy etc... Now, the Certificate is installed, but when you visit any subdomain over https (example: hxxps://subdomainx.domain.com ) it points to /home/DOMAIN/public_html/index.php We need that when you visit a subdomain via https hxxps://subdomainx.domain.com That it points to the the same directory that it's http equivalent: /home/DOMAIN/public_html/subdomainx Our provider tells us that this is not possible, that the current behaviour is correct, and that to achieve this we need to do it with htaccess. I've tried a few things, incluiding this solution, that seems to be what I need: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5365612/advice-on-configuring-htaccess-file-to-redirect-http-subdomain-to-https-equival But can't get it to work. • Some Domain Clients unable to access certain websites

  I have a small domain around 20 clients with a 2003 R2 SP2 DC. Most of my clients can browse the internet freely and dont have a problem. However a couple are reporting problems accessing certain sites. IE: Hotmail, skyscanner, bbc news They can browse the sites sometimes then other times they get 408\409 errors. other machines in the domain can access these sites. I have cleared out dns cache on these machines modified external dns servers on the DC still to no avail. The main issue is the person not able to access skyscanner uses it several times a day to book flights for employess going on leave or returning to work. both clients are running XP SP3 though one machine is getting change for one running win7 shortly. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks

• Remote access over VPN machine

  Here is my scenario. I have Comp1 which has VPN installed on it & working fine. I have made Comp1 as remote enabled as well. Now i want to log in to Comp1 ( remotely) from Comp2. Without starting the VPN, remote desktop works fine from Comp2 to Comp1. When i connect to VPN on Comp1 the remote desktop from Comp2 breaks. Is there a way i can run VPN on Comp1 and be able to access from Comp2 remotely. If there is change in settings, please advice. Regards

• Script to restart BlackBerry services

  Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart. • PHP5.3 FastCGI doesn't use global config's values

  There's a Centos6.3 system. Apache 2.2.15 + mod_fcgid + PHP 5.3.3 There's a problem with date.timezone value. It's mentioned in the global /etc/php.ini like this: date.timezone = "Europe/Moscow" And doesn't mentioned in user's local php.ini. As a result, I'm getting lot's of warnings like: Warning: date() [function.date]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'Europe/Helsinki' for 'EEST/3.0/DST' instead in ... Including the date.timezone parameter into the user's php.ini solves the problem, but I don't think, that it's the best solution. Maybe someone have faced this problem and can give an advice? Thanks! P.S. Creating /etc/php.d/timezone.ini with the timezone info aslo does nothing:(

• Windows 7 Hibernate Problem

  I cannot hibernate windows. When I click "hibernate", my laptop(windows) just locks and the screen goes black. I can unlock without any problem. I do not have any problem with other options such as "sleep" or "shut down". I updated the chipset drivers but it did not help. There is not any option in BIOS about the sleep modes. "Hibernate" is "on" on Windows. Any advice? My Laptop specifications: MSI A5000 3gb system memory, Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit installed, Gentoo linux installed, Grub bootloader(MBR). Hard drive: Around 4gb of free space in windows partition.

• Excel: #NAME? apppearing when linking/referencing other spreadsheets/workbook cells

  I'm updating a spreadsheet that refers to data in another worksheet =NameofWorksheet for some reason I get #NAME? in some of the cells, even when the actual path is correct. The only way to overcome the problem is to open up the source spreadsheet and then recalculate the destination spreadsheet. But, if I then close the workbooks; open up just the destination workbook the #NAME? issue comes back. I've even created a test destination spreadsheet and it doesn't suffer from the #NAME? problem. Any reason for this? Should I be worried about the integrity of some Sheets? Any advice greatly appreciated. Michael.

• Single PC Satellite Office Firewall

  We are setting up a small, single PC office about 200 miles away. We plan on getting a cable internet connection but need some advice on a sufficient firewall. We would like to keep it under $100 if possible. 2 options we are considering are: Cisco RVS4000 (got some bad reviews) Linksys WRT120N (running DD-WRT) We need the ability for VPN but other than that we don't need anything special. We just want to keep that PC as safe as possible but easily maintainable because most work will be done remotely. What suggestions or solutions can you recommend for this application?

• Driver proboems for SH-S203N Samsung DVD drive

  My father jsut bought me a dvd burner Samsung SH-S202N OEM and installed it into my computer. The drive seems to be able to burn media fine. But when it comes to reading dvd's, audio cd's, it just skips. It can read them it is just skipping so badly to the point where the dvd's are unwatchable and cd's skip rather bad. I am looking for the latest firmware or driver for the Samsung SH-S202N OEM. Any advice? Thanks in advance. :)

• My stereo headphones cable is broken, what can I do?

  I have a pair of stereo headphones, I got them on Amazon. Now, the right headphone stops producing sound. To fix that I need to move/shake the tip of the cable (the one before that part of tip which goes inside the headphone jack on the laptop). But as time goes, this sort of fix helps less and less. It looks that the cable is a bit broken at the place where I shake/move cable. Is that the end of use of my headphones? Is that a reject of the device? Is there a way to fix it, for example, changing the very tip of the cable at the very end of it. Any advice on buying headphones?

• Application got shut down in WinXP if I close the 2nd window of that application. [closed]

  I'm using WinXP and here is my question: I run an application, such as Chrome, there would be one app in the task bar, and it's fine. Suppose a new window of Chrome opened(so there would be 2 window and 2 in the task bar), and when I close that,the 2nd one, the whole application just shutdown. And so does chrome, firefox, evernote, Becky!(the email client), even TortoiseSVN. So I think there should be a generic problem cause these applications shutdown, such as the platform - WinXP. Please give me some advice or hint, anything comes to your mind would be helpful!

• Use `dd` linux program to save / recover a disk's MBR

  I have an Ubuntu OS installed on my laptop. I want to install Windows 7 as well to another disk partition (I will do it by recovering it from a special partition on my laptop). After installing Windows, I want to recover my hard drive MBR to be able to load Ubuntu. I have a plan to use linux dd program: 1) (Before installing, perform this command in Linux) dd if=/dev/sda of=/home/user/mbr_backup bs=512 count=1 2) (after installing, load Ubuntu Live CD and launch this) dd if=/home/user/mbr_backup of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1 3) Load Ubuntu on PC and re-configure the GRUB2 to be able start Windows I need your advice, I want to be sure I won't damage the disk (it's partition table).

• Effective system to backup this setup?

  I currently have my development environment on a usb hd. It has things like portable xampp, virtualbox with ubuntu guest, portable firefox and other dev tools. It works fantastic! I can attach it to almost any computer and all works fine. However, if this drive decides to go suicide on me I will be close behind it. The problem I'm having is I use this portable HD almost all the time and so I need a fast way to backup the entire drive. It is around 400gb. Any advice?

• Ubuntu synaptics touchpad is too sensitive

  I recently switched from Windows to Linux (Linux Mint specifically) on my IBM T61 laptop. Since making the switch, my touchpad has been nearly unusable. When I place one finger on the touchpad, without moving it, the cursor bobs around in a small area as if I am making a number of small movements. I think the cursor is moving around because the sensitivity is too high - just rotating the tip of my finger in place moves the cursor over about one-third of the screen. My trackpad does not suffer from the same problem. I have lowered the sensitivity in the mouse settings to its minimum and I have tried to follow the advice from http://iruel430.blogspot.com/2010/06/lowering-mouse-sensitivity-in-ubuntu.html and also reduce laptop touch pad sensitivity in ubuntu. But, in both cases, my touchpad still has the same behavior. Perhaps there is an xinput setting I am overlooking? Is there a better driver I can use for my T61?

• Western Digital Caviar SE16 not recognized

  Before I start, I have been looking at quite a few websites and I still have not found an answer to my problem. I have been building my own computer recently and I have just received the hard drive (WD Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS) I was planning to put in my computer. After connecting the SATA power cable (99.99999% sure it is connected correctly) and the SATA cable to my motherboard (ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3) I booted my computer into a Linux Mint 13 XFCE 64-bit live USB expecting to see a hard drive when I came to install. Sadly when I checked the only hard drive that was showing was /dev/sda which was my USB with the Linux files on it. I also checked gparted and no hard drive other than my USB was showing up there either. Lastly I checked my BIOS and no matter what SATA port I connected the HDD to it wouldn't show up there either. • Is it possible to alias a hostname in linux?

  I am looking for the right answer to the above question. It has been asked by jmillikin at ubuntu forums as follows: Is it possible to create a hostname alias? Sort of like /etc/hosts, but with other hostnames rather than IP addresses. So that with some file like this, you could ping "fakehost1", and it would be re-mapped to "realhost", and then "realhost" would be resolved to an IP address. # Real host # Aliases realhost fakehost1 fakehost2 fakehost3 Somebody has answered about ssh. But not about ping, etc. My main purpose is to use it as an alias for svn server. In my case, realhost is under dynamic ip. So, "/etc/hosts" alias doesn't work. I want to access my svn server as svn://my_svnserver/my_repos instead of svn://realhost/my_repos. Thanks in advance for any advice.

• No SATA drives after PSU Upgrade

  I know this sounds a lot like this but I just confirmed that my MBR is fine as well as the SSD drive in question. What happened: I upgraded my be-quiet 700w PSU to the 1000w dark power pro. When I tried booting the system and none of the drives (all SATA) were detected, resulting in the "Boot device failure" error. After that I unplugged all but the boot drive, triple checked that all cables were in fact nice and tight inside their sockets, replaced both e-SATA and power cables ; still with the same outcome. Finally I reconnected my old PSU and sure enough the PC booted without any hassle (except of course for the direful construction that is currently occupying my desk). Does anybody have any advice on how to proceed? Surely, it is possible the PSU is faulty but are there other explanations? • Missing hard drive total space in Windows

  I have an HP Pavilion DM4 with a 750 GB hard drive. A few days ago, I installed Windows 8 on it, so I am now dual booting Win7 and Win8 (and I also have a 100 MB system reserved partition). I noticed that I am only able to see 700 GB of hard disk space (169 for Win 8 and 529 for Win 7). I booted of an Ubuntu 11.04 LiveCD and in the disk utility it said that my Win 8 partition is 182 GB and my Win 7 partition is 568 GB, correctly adding up to 750 GB. I would like to reclaim the missing space in its respective partitions. Any advice on how to go about doing this?

• How to run webcam software only when I am not home (phone is not on the LAN)?

  Currently I've got cron starting Motion when I typically leave for work, and then killing it when I typically get home, so I can watch my cat/burglars/etc. But it would be better if it could detect when I'm actually home and disable the webcam during those times, and enable it at other times. I was thinking my presence could be detected by my Android phone joining the LAN. So something like A script that checks every few minutes whether my phone's hostname or MAC address is currently on the LAN or A Tasker script on my phone that contacts the home computer in some way (simple web server?) when it joins a certain SSID or ... Any better ideas or advice about how to implement one of these?

• Hybrid HDD/SSD Volume Windows

  Is it possible to create a hybrid drive-like experience using an ssd and a hdd? In theory, frequently used files would be stored on the faster ssd, and larger/less used would be moved to the hdd. I know you can create shared volumes in windows, but the speed differences would create some issues I would assume, and it doesn't have drive preference for what gets stored on what drive. Any programs/info/advice would be great! Thanks! (PS. I saw this question, but it was asked three years ago and some solutions have probably changed)

• Remoting into two diffrent servers on the same network

  I`m trying to figure out a way to remote into both my servers on the same network. I have a 2008 r2 and a server 2003. Right now i can remote into my server 2003 but I dont know what IP to use for the 2k8 server. They seem to have the same public im. Both servers are behind a fire wall (sonic wall tz170) I rememeber having to to something on the firewall to get into the 2k3 server but forgot what I did... Can anyone give some advice thanks
