  I am flailing about with wxWidgets, in particular, the wx.Sizer in wxPython. I have read the documents, I have a copy of wXPython in Action before me, and have set aside the problem to work on other things a better mental model of sizers hopefully gestated within my skull. None of this has worked. I am not grokking, or even getting to the point where I can bang about usefully, how sizers work. In HTML, I could at least set a background color on some div or td, or call forth borders so I could see how things are laid out. Here, I have a grey expanse and no idea which of the nested static box sizers from which it originates. I am giving static box sizers after making a mess out of the grid bag sizers. Either alternative would let me at least get a handle on how these work.

  Just updated albacore to version 0.14 and ran into a major problem. My current environment is: Ruby 1.9.1 Rake 0.8.7 Albacore 0.1.4 The problem is that as of now all my rake build throw a funny little exception: undefined method 'push' for #<Enumerator:0x???????> So far I have traced the problem to albacore msbuild.rb line 38 and 26. To be honest I just don't have a clue why this is happening. • How can you prevent an individual window being captured by Print-Screen?

  I noticed a few times than when I print-screen while Media Player is running, the content is replaced with a grey rectangle. I've no idea if it's deliberate due to DRM, or some technical issue, but it struck me that being able to deliberately block screen-capture might be a useful feature in some scenarios. I am not looking to fix the problem, but replicate it! Is there some specific message each HWND gets for print-screen - does Windows do a special repaint or simply dump buffers to the clipboard? I guess I'd prefer to focus this on Win32 specifically, but as long as it's Windows-related then fine.

• CSS Jquery - When I change background color the text becomes fuzzy in IE6 ?

• List service and services status under Win-7

  I have a service monitor app that monitors the status of three other servers app - you know those kind of green, red status stuff, start, stop, etc. The problem is that it shows the wrong state in Windows 7 even if the user is the administrator. The start, stop buttons are disabled and the install button enabled, the status color is grey which is also wrong. The start button should be enabled with the service status showing green - the apps are running. If the application is run with the setting "run as administrator" then it behaves normally. The application is written in Delphi 7 and works perfectly in other versions of Windows. This line of code: OpenSCManager(PChar(sMachine),Nil,SC_MANAGER_ALL_ACCESS) always return 0 under Win7, causing the problem. Any ideas and if possible, any workaround apart from "run as administrator". Regards Ronaldo

It looks correct in firefox, chrome & IE8, but not IE6 & 7 the footer's background is white and inside the box. I have tried many things with no luck. I've skimmed and read the relevant RFC and I understand most of what each field means, but what I don't understand is how do I derive from the Audio/Video Format of the JMF, which parameters of the format compose the rtpmap registry entries I need to use. I see many times the fields m=audio 12548 RTP/AVP 0 8 101 a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000 a=rtpmap:8 PCMA/8000 a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000 a=fmtp:101 0-16 a=silenceSupp:off - - - - a=ptime:20 a=sendrecv these are received from the pbx server I'm connecting to, what do they mean in the terms of the JMF audio format properties. • image problem with dreamweaver

  i'm trying to create a newsletter in a single html file, which will be loaded into outlook express and sent out as a mail. i have like a few images embedded onto the html file but 2 of them cant be loaded for preview in design mode. there is no problem for the rest of the images. those images that cant be loaded has the grey color icon. the directory for the images are the same. i have copied and pasted the absolute directory for the images that cant load and it doesnt work. the images loads fine when executed from the html file that was uploaded to the webserver. i need to get the newsletter out tomorrow, any assistance here? thanks in advance.

  Uncle Bob recommends having small methods. Do stored procedures have an ideal size? Or can they run on for 100's and 100's of lines long? Also does anyone have anything to say about where to place business logic. If located in stored procedures, the database is being used as data processing tier. If you read Adam Machanic, his bias is toward the database, does that imply long stored procedures that only the author of the sproc understands, leaving maintainers to deal with the mess? I guess there is two inter-related questions, somehow. Thanks in advance for responding to a fuzzy question(s).

  How should I be using color in my application? I have over a 100 different forms (windows) in my application, and the default windows grey seems like a bad choice to me. One school of thought says pick one neutral color, and use the same one everywhere. Another school of thought says pick a set of neutral colors, and use them same ones within a group of form (e.g., shipping screens might be light green, receiving screens light orange, user administration screens light blue, etc.). The final school of thought says make every form different. We've got millions of colors, why not use them? What should I do and why?

  Trying to run the code coverage tool in Visual Studios for a set of unit tests. Adam from Think First, Code Later has had the same problem: I wanted to get the code coverage metrics for the project. Naturally, I fire up the solution in Visual Studio 2008, go to the Test menu, click Edit Test Run Configurations, and click Local Test Run. I then click Code Coverage to turn on code coverage for a given assembly and POOF the Local Test Run Configraution window just disappears. He recommends installing this hotfix to fix the problem, however a) when I run that hotfix I get the message “None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup.” and b) there is no Silverlight in our solution. Any other ideas for a fix?

  I want to be able to query my database over the web, and I am wanting to use a WCF service to handle the requests and results. The problem is that due to the amount of data that can potentially be returned from these queries, I'm worried about how these results will be serialised over the network. For example, I can imagine the XML serialisation looking like: <Results> <Person Name="Adam" DateOfBirth="01/02/1985" /> <Person Name="Bob" DateOfBirth="04/07/1986" /> </Results> And the binary serialisation containing types names and other (unnecessary) metadata. Perhaps even the type name for each element in a collection? o_o Ideally, I'd like to perform the serialisation of certain 'DataContract'-s myself so I can make it super-compact. Does anyone know if this is possible, or of any articles which explain how to do custom serialisation with WCF? Thanks in advance

  As a software developer one sometimes gets feature requests that seem to be in some kind of morally grey area. Sometimes one can deflect them, or implement them in a way that feels less 'evil' - sometimes - on reflection - while the feature request 'feels' wrong theres no identifiable part of it that actually causes harm. Sometimes one feels a feature is totally innocent but various anti virus products start tagging one as malware. For example - I personally consider EULAs to (a) hopefully be unenforceable and (b) a means by which rights are REMOVED from consumers. However Anti Virus scanners frequently mark as malware any kind of download agent that does not display a EULA. Which to me is the result of a curious kind of double think. What I want to know is - are there any online (or offline) resources that cover evil software development practices? How can I know if a software practice that I consider dodgy is in fact evil enough to consider fighting?

• Exporting Eclipse project with a reference to native library

  I have an Eclipse project, that uses JMF, I found out I could skip the JMF installation process and still to use the CaptureDeviceManager of the JMF, and to receive the list of devices if I could point my project to the native lib of the JMF. I've managed to add the native lib to the IDE run/debug, but once I export the application to an external runnable Jar, the application cannot find the native lib. the files are located in c:\JMF*.dll I tried to add the folder path to the environment variable in windows - didn't work. I tried to add them into another Jar and add it to the project - didn't work. I tried to add the files into the project - didn't work. I tried to add the path to the class path - didn't work. I tried to add the path to the library path - didn't work. does someone have any sort of a solution? Thanks in advance, Adam Zehavi.

• Lua: Why changing value on one variable changes value on an other one too?

  I think that running this code you will get excactly what I mean. I want to register 5 names to a register(people). I loop 5 times and in each loop I have a variable newPerson which is supposed to save all information about a person and then be added to the people register. In this example only the names of the people are being registered for simplicity. The problem is that in the end all people turn to have the same name: "Petra". I playied a bit with this but can't get a reasonable reason for this behaviour. • Changing The Underlying Background Color Of A Swing Window

  As discussed here, when resizing a Swing application in Vista (and Windows 7, which is what I'm using) you get a black background in the right/bottom corner while Swing's repaint catches up to the changes. Playing with other applications (Windows Explorer (Native), Firefox (C++?), and Eclipse (Java)) I notice that they all have this same problem - contrary to what the folks in the link above say - but they minimize the problem by having a grey fill color, which is far less visually jarring than the black that appears in Swing. I'm wondering if there's some way to change this so that Swing behaves like these other applications? I tried setting the background color of the JFrame, but to no avail.

• Flex - weird display behavior on large number of Canvas

  Hi, I have a Flex app (SDK 3.5 - FP10) that does mindmap trees. Every node is a Canvas (I'm using Canvas specific properties so I needed it). It has a shadow effect, background color and some small ui element on it (like icons, texts...). It works perfectly until it goes over ~700 nodes (Canvas). Over that number it shows grey rectangles: http://yfrog.com/bhw2pj . If I turn off the DropShadowFilter effect for the Canvas, they are also gone, so I assume it's a DropShadowFilter problem: http://yfrog.com/2d9y8j . The effect is simple: private static var _nodeDropShadow:DropShadowFilter = new DropShadowFilter(1, 45, 0x888888, 1, 1, 1); _backgroundComp.filters = _nodeDropShadow; Is it possible that Flex can't handle that much?   I have a problem with SonarQube. I use web API to inject manual metrics values for a project like this : curl -u nom:password -d "resource=<projet>&metric=<key de la metric>&val=<valeur>" http://localhost:8081/sonar/api/manual_measures One of these metrics is a percentage and this metric is declared as a Percentage value in Sonar in Settings = Manual Metrics window. I have a project with components and each project and components have this metric value. When I want to show this metric as a color metric in a "treemap of components" of widget, all the treemap is grey (as if values are not defined). But if I put mouse on the name of component in treemap, I saw the color metric value as a percentage value like this : myComponent - ncloc: 800 - myMetric: 84,0% Moreover, scale metric color does not appear in treemap title (after Size ncloc Color <my metric>).
