• MacBookPro RAM: CL7 or CL9

  Hi, I want to increase the RAM in my MacBookPro 15", 2.53 GHz, Mid-2009. I currently have 4GB, and I want 6GB (and upgrade to 8GB later - I think this should work with my model: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=573906) Now I see two offers: 1x4GB DDR3 1333 CL9 9-9 (149 EUR) 1x4GB DDR3 1066 CL7 7-7 (192 EUR). Both are from the same brand (Transcend), both are labeled "For MacBook/MacBookPro". Now I have no idea, which of these would work better with the 2GB RAM module from my currently installed memory (Running at 1067 MHz, according to System Profiler - but with what CL setting?) Would the 1333 CL9 RAM be set to CL7 when running at 1066 MHz? Thanks, Chris PS Should I expect problems when I later upgrade to 8GB with a different module (in case the same module won't be produced anymore)?

  I have tried many way to install IIS in my Windows 7 Professionnel environment. And I have always an error. I tried with Web Plateform Api - "Fatal Error during installation" With Windows Features in configuration pannel - "An error has occurred. • IMAP email migration from Apptix to Office 365

  I am having issues setting up a migration from Apptix to Office 365 of 41 users in my company. I've found a couple guides on the Microsoft website about how to do it (Thank you Google) but I keep coming up with problems. I am trying to set up a mailbox migration through IMAP to get all of my users' emails over to Office 365 before we make the transition over from Apptix. One of the forums suggested using IMAP, since a CSV file can be uploaded to Office 365 and it will check for incoming mail for each user every 24 hours. My problem is that when I do this, I just get errors. • Open FDF document on Mac

  I'm having the issue documented here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/445594 When I try to open a FDF, I just get a pop up over and over again which asks me if I want to open the form. One possible solution is downgrading to Safari 3, but that is not proven to work. I thought maybe I could get the FDF to open in FireFox, but changing the default browser does not affect Reader, it still attempts to open the FDF in Safari (strange). So, does anyone know of a way to open this form? Thanks -Corey

• Is there a Unix/Linux platform equivalent to Telligent Community?

  Telligent Community combines blogs, wikis, forums, and file-sharing capabilities into a single product with single sign-on, using all Microsoft technologies. Is there an equivalent offering that runs on Unix/Linux? Or would I have to pick and choose individual product offerings and figure out another option for single sign-on across them? Are there plug-ins for something like WordPress or MovableType that might add the necessary functionality? A friend of mine is looking to add a "members-only" area to her company's website, and since they're hosted on Dreamhost (and can't afford StackExchange pricing yet), I'm trying to find other options for them.

• How to stop intermittent playback on airtunes (iTunes + Airport Express)?

  Is there a definitive answer for how to stop intermittent "skips" or pauses while playing music from iTunes to an airport express connected to my home stereo? When I read other forums I see a wealth of posts that say "I did XYZ and it's fixed" followed by "I tried XYZ and it didn't work." This does not appear to be signal strength related. The green light on the Airport Express does not turn to yellow/orange. Other wireless devices have no trouble connecting at the same or greater distances from the wireless router.

• Postfix on IspCP cannot send to google apps mail if it is in the same domain

  In my vps setup I have ispcp omega 1.0.7 installed. Everything works fine except the fact that postfix cannot send to google apps mail when the domain of google apps is also registered in ispcp. Postfix sends an email to normal addresses (hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc). I use external dns. There is also a discussion I started in the ispcp forum here .mail.log file provides these messages: mail for exampledomain.gr loops back to myself". postfix/bounce: sender non-delivery notification. postfix/qmgr: removed Any help would be appreciated.

• Windows Explorer is blank

  I am using Windows 7 Utlimate x64. Once a week, or so, when I boot up n the morning and launch Windows Explorer it shows up blank, as the following screen shot show. Clicking on my Computer doesn't load anything. Interestingly, I can go the the Address bar at the top and type in a folder name. This brings up that folder's files and subfolders, but as I drill around the tree of folders on the left only shows the immediate folder and not its siblings. There's no plus icon to expand the folder, etc. My usual "solution" is to reboot, which typically brings everything back to normal, but this is a frustrating remedy. Any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Some Googling turned up this discussion, but the remedy was to uninstall a particular piece of software that I don't have installed (Virtual Clone Drive).   I've been looking for a simple, intuitive ASP.NET based CMS to handle my club/association site. It should be based on ASP.NET so I can add some extra specific pages offer a membership system, e.g. I want to be able to define members which can e.g. comment posts, while anonymous users can only read (no active participation) have features like news, forums, blogs, picture gallery be simple and easy to use I've been looking at GraffitiCMS: so far my favorite, but it has no forum, and no membership system, and no future, it seems - no development whatsoever in over a year :-( Sitefinity: had extreme trouble even getting it installed, and when it's finally up and running, I find it overly complicated and not intuitive at all Umbraco: same problem - hard to install, hard to get up and running, the intro videos on their site are only available to paying subscribers (what's up with that deal???)..... DotNetNuke: seems like a major overkill Community Server: seems like a major overkill - and seems to be more and more commercial, only Any others I've missed that I should have definitely looked at ??

• Error "403 Forbidden" on Sharepoint Search Settings Page

  Hello I thought I had solved this nightmare by re-entering the values in my SSP properties set up, however accessing the Search Settings page error has reared it ugly head again. • Dell e4300 Random Beeps

  I’ve noticed that my Dell e4300 Laptop will randomly beep every now and then. The symptoms are virtually identical to the issue described here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19314488.aspx Any ideas why? I thought it might be related to hard drive activity so I downloaded the western digital disk utility and all tests check out fine. It’s not a big deal and it only beeps once every few days. I just want to make sure there isn’t a larger problem looming. =) -M

• phpbb3 email settings for Zoho SMTP server

  I've spent a while guessing and googling, and haven't found an answer. In the past I setup my forums to send via my Gmail account, but spambots with fake emails have flooded my inbox, so I setup [email protected] with Zoho mail. Now I need to have my installation of phpbb3 send mass emails through the smtp.zoho.com mail server, and I can't figure out what settings I should use. The instructions on https://www.zoho.com/mail/help/pop-access.html are a little vague for anything that doesn't auto-detect the exact settings.

• Application usage report on XenApp 6

  We just deployed the latest Citrix XenApp 6 onto Server 2008 R2, and we'd like to run an application usage report. I've googled around, but all the how-to's seem to be aimed at XenApp 5 and lower, when apparently it was much easier. I came across this Citrix expert thread: http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=265554 Which gives a powershell command, Get-XAApplicationReport, but when I run that on our Citrix Server in PS2 it says it's not recognized. Do I need to register the Citrix commands in PS some how? Is there a better way to generate the application usage report?

• Revocation status of DC can't be verified

  A Domain Controller within my forest was working fine (as the story usually goes). Then, suddenly, I can't logon with my smart card. Instead, I'm greeted with the following message: The system could not log you on. The revocation status of the domain controller certificate used for smart card authentication could not be determined. I literally have no idea what's happened here. As an attempted quick fix, I removed the root certificate which issued the Smart Card's certificate from the CA of both the client and DC. Then imported a newly exported one from the DC in question. Same issue. I've spotted a number of related articles on Microsoft's forums and a HP support document. Each don't really shed much light as it's a generic error message apparently. Having said all of this, other smart cards (issued from other DCs) work fine. So I have no idea what's up with this one.

  Hi, my task is to setup a MAMP webserver for our website in the easiest way so it can be managed by my colleagues without experience in server administration. MAMP PRO is an excellent solution, but some guys don't suggest to use it for serving external requests. Could you explain why it is bad (in details if possible) and how to make it secure enough to be a full-scale and not-only-local webserver? Is there a better solution? Update There is a discussion on the MAMP website. XAMPP developers say that one can make their product secure: The default configuration is not good from a securtiy point of view and it's not secure enough for a production environment - please don't use XAMPP in such environment. Since LAMPP 0.9.5 you can make your XAMPP installation secure by calling »/opt/lampp/lampp security«. Could you comment it?

• Error after installing mysqlnd_ms

  I am working on Amazon EC2 using the Amazon Linux AMI which is based on CentOS. I have installed php54 and php54-mysqlnd. I then do a "sudo pecl install myslqnd_ms" This installs fine. I add the extension into the php.ini file. Then I start httpd, and when I do in the error log I see: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqlnd_ms.so' - /usr/lib64/php/modules/mysqlnd_ms.so: undefined symbol: mysqlnd_globals in Unknown on line 0 Googling this lead me to: https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=62276&edit=1 and http://forums.famillecollet.com/viewtopic.php?id=242 neither of which helped me much. I am trying to stick to stock pre built binaries from the main YUM repo if possible. What would be the best solution here? Thanks in advance

• How can I expire non-active sessions on my Netscreen SSG140?

  I have a Juniper Netscreen SSG-140. While experimenting with a VoIP service, I defined a custom policy that was to be used to permit the possible ports in use to be sent back to the VoIP server from systems connecting across the internet. Because I'd had problems in the past with VoIP systems getting broken when their UDP sessions were expired out faster than their keep-alives were generated, I set the timeout on this custom service to be 'never'. After much experimentation, I happened to notice that my session count on the firewall has grown from a couple thousand to over 36000. After discussion with the VoIP "expert", I set the timeout to be 30 minutes; however, all the sessions set up during the experimentation process are still there, more than 3 days later. Is there a way I can force these old sessions to get expired and removed from the session table, or am I looking at resetting my firewall? (Both firewalls, actually -- they are in a cluster.)

• Wrong DNS query in Active directory network with NetBIOS enabled client

  The setup: Active Directory is enabled on the network (abcd.com) We have a single character host name (1.abcd.com) one of the desktop has an old XP with NetBIOS stuff enabled The Problem Whenever we query for any host name from the XP machine, the first character alone is taken for DNS query (one.abcd.com will query for o.abcd.com, two.abcd.com will query for t.abcd.com) Even if we give some IP, the application queries with numeric prefix (10.x.x.x will query for 1.abcd.com).Since we already have 1.abcd.com, all query and traffic ends up in 1.abcd.com After discussion with network guys, it seems netbios DNS queries by having some prefix etc. but none of them is actually sure on what is happening. Is there any docs which can explain this behavior ? Is this valid behavior in NetBIOS environment ?

  I have a Lenovo v570 with a Nvidia GeForce 410m with cuda. It came with windows 7 and everything works well. However I just got bored of windows 7 and I'm yearning for xp. I installed xp and got everything to work except the Nvidia driver. In their website there is only the windows 7 nvidia driver available. I searched http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/26388 and got a driver for the 400m series. I tried the software and it didn't work, message << THIS GRAPHICS DRIVER COULD NOT FIND COMPATIBLE GRAPHICS HARDWARE . I also tried : http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/29285-v29610-windows-xp-32bit-nvidia/ This time the error message 'REQUIRED FILES ARE MISSING' Any help will be grateful.

• Debian Squeeze Upgrade Breaks Apache SSL

  I upgraded my Debian from Lenny to Squeeze. BIG MISTAKE. Now I get: [Tue Feb 08 16:34:57 2011] [error] Server should be SSL-aware but has no certificate configured [Hint: SSLCertificateFile] ((null):0) littered throughout /var/log/apache2/error.log. How to fix? Looking through a mess of forums it is easy to see that Apache changed the way it reads configurations around 2.2.13. Great. But not great for me or the millions of other web administrators who now have web servers that simply won't start, and an error message that says NOTHING about the problem or how to fix. Anybody else actually solved this issue? I had perfectly working virtual servers with SSL before (for years actually).

• MySQL is killing the server IO.

  I manage a fairly large/busy vBulletin forums (~2-3k requests per second, running on gigenet cloud), the database is ~ 10 GB (~9 milion posts, ~60 queries per second), lately MySQL have been grinding the disk like there's no tomorrow according to iotop and slowing the site. The last idea I can think of is using replication, but I'm not sure how much that would help and worried about database sync. I'm out of ideas, any tips on how to improve the situation would be highly appreciated. Specs : Debian Lenny 64bit ~12Ghz (6 cores) CPU, 7520gb RAM, 160gb disk. Kernel : 2.6.32-4-amd64 mysqld Ver 5.1.54-0.dotdeb.0 for debian-linux-gnu on x86_64 ((Debian)) Other software: vBulletin 3.8.4 memcached 1.2.2 PHP 5.3.5-0.dotdeb.0 (fpm-fcgi) (built: Jan 7 2011 00:07:27) lighttpd/1.4.28 (ssl) - a light and fast webserver PHP and vBulletin are configured to use memcached. • Can a power failure or forceful shutdown damage hardware?

  In an unrelated Internet forum I got into a discussion about hardware damage from forceful shutdowns (holding the power button for 5 seconds) and power failures. I was in the opinion that normal PC hardware does not suffer from this - after all, it's not much different than what they experience under a standard shutdown. But another person thought that it could do physical harm to the hard drive and possibly other components as well. He also said that the journaling features of filesystems are useless in face of power failures and were intended to help mitigate damage from system crashes. Now... I think this is nonsense, but then again I lack the experience and knowledge to say it with certainty. Perhaps someone else is more knowledgeable in this area and can shed light on this burning issue? :)

• Default Document not posting for IIS 7

  I am using URL rerouting in Asp.net 4.0 and my default page for the site is \home where user's can log in the app.So when the users type in my site's url i.e www.domain.com cause of the defualt page config which I have it gets redirected to my home.aspx page which is mapped on my global.asax as \home. Now all the log in request i.e Post request coming from www.domain.com are failing no events are being fired on the server. Where as if I try www.domain.com\home then things starts working I am able to log on. I had read a similar issue but still am confused about the solution http://forums.iis.net/t/1164877.aspx , this used to work fine on IIS 6 but on IIS 7 such a scenario started happening. Am I missing some configuration , please help.
