  • SQL/Schema comparison and upgrade

    I have a simple situation. A large organisation is using several different versions of some (desktop) application and each version has it's own database structure. There are about 200 offices and each office will have it's own version, which can be one of 7 different ones. The company wants to upgrade all applications to the latest versions, which will be version 8. The problem is that they don't have a separate database for each version. Nor do they have a separate database for each office. They have one single database which is handled by a dedicated server, thus keeping things like management and backups easier. Every office has it's own database schema and within the schema there's the whole database structure for their specific application version. As a result, I'm dealing with 200 different schema's which need to be upgraded, each with 7 possible versions. Fortunately, every schema knows the proper version so checking the version isn't difficult. But my problem is that I need to create upgrade scripts which can upgrade from version 1 to version 2 to version 3 to etc... Basically, all schema's need to be bumped up one version until they're all version 8. Writing the code that will do this is no problem. the challenge is how to create the upgrade script from one version to the other? Preferably with some automated tool. I've examined RedGate's SQL Compare and Altova's DatabaseSpy but they're not practical. Altova is way too slow. RedGate requires too much processing afterwards, since the generated SQL Script still has a few errors and it refers to the schema name. Furthermore, the code needs to become part of a stored procedure and the code generated by RedGate doesn't really fit inside a single procedure. (Plus, it's doing too much transaction-handling, while I need everything within a single transaction. I have been considering using another SQL Comparison tool but it seems to me that my case is just too different from what standard tools can deliver. So I'm going to write my own comparison tool. To do this, I'll be using ADOX with Delphi to read the catalogues for every schema version in the database, then use this to write the SQL Statements that will need to upgrade these schema's to their next version. (Comparing 1 with 2, 2 with 3, 3 with 4, etc.) I'm not unfamiliar with generating SQL-Script-Generators so I don't expect too many problems. And I'll only be upgrading the table structures, not any of the other database objects. So, does anyone have some good tips and tricks to apply when doing this kind of comparisons? Things to be aware of? Practical tips to increase speed?

  • Saving animated GIFs using urllib.urlopen (image saved does not animate)

    I have Apache2 + Django + X-sendfile. My problem is that when I upload an animated GIF, it won't "animate" when I output through the browser.   • Best practice- handling images on website

    I am porting an old eCommerce site to MVC 3 and would like to take advantage of design improvements. The site currently has product images stored in 3 sizes: thumbnail, medium (for display in a list) and expanded for a zoomed look. Right now we are having to upload 3 separate images that are sized exactly right, provide 3 different names that match what the site expects, etc., it is a pain. I'd like to upload just 1 file, the large one, then let the site reduce it to needed sizes, and I'd like the flexibility to change the thumbnail and list sizes depending on user preferences, form factor (e.g. mobile, iPad, desktop), etc. so might need many copies of the same image. My question is should the image be reduced then saved several times upon upload and if so what is a good storage/naming convention? The other idea is to store just the single image but resize it programmatically before serving it to the client. Has anybody done this and what are the tradeoffs besides a few more machine cycles? How do you pass a temporary image in memory to the client (there is no URL)?

I have figured out how to have solr to search text files, but I would like to learn what the best way to associate images with semi structured/unstructured text.     This seemed way easier on my pc. I would just pop a blank dvd in the drive, it asked what I wanted to do with it, to which I would respond, "burn dvd with nero" (paraphrasing), then I would pick "new" and just drag and drop the folders in there. Mac appears to have "Disk Utility" which just requires that I 'choose an image' but then doesn't bother to detail: how to do this what the options mean e.g. format "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is that ever going to be readable on a non Mac machine? I want to create an ISO standard DVD as per the 'default' you'd get on nero. All the stuff on the web points to doing things with 'Terminal' (the whole point of buying a Mac was to get away from command line jiggery pokery - I'm trying to burn some photos not land a friggin lunar module here!) Please, if you can just provide some simple instructions on what I need to achive this I'd be extremely grateful. Ta muchley in advance.

  • How to prevent boot manager missing after cloning a win764 image using Ghost 2003?

    I am running ghost 2003 command -fdsp, but once we have cloned the image and restored it onto exactly the same make and model machine, we are force to run win7 setup and run a repair which fixes the boot menu, I want to prevent this requirement to fix the problem, any suggestions besides the obvious of using Windows AIK tools, new versions of ghost/clonzilla. I want to prevent the problem in the first place, it's 1 partition only, on a levano workstation m82 with UEFI and a 100mb system reserved partition. Windows Boot Manager screen and states: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next." 3.Click "Repair you computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status: 0xc000000e

  • How can I determine if an image has loaded, using Javascript/jQuery?

    I'm writing some Javascript to resize the large image to fit into the user's browser window. (I don't control the size of the source images unfortunately.) So something like this would be in the HTML: <img id="photo" src="a_really_big_file.jpg" alt="this is some alt text" title="this is some title text" /> Is there a way for me to determine if the src image in an img tag has been downloaded? I need this because I'm running into a problem if $(document).ready() is executed before the browser has loaded the image. $("#photo").width() and $("#photo").height() will return the size of the placeholder (the alt text). In my case this is something like 134 x 20. Right now I'm just checking if the photo's height is less than 150, and assuming that if so it is just alt text. But this is quite a hack, and it would break if a photo is less than 150 pixels tall (not likely in my particular case), or if the alt text is more than 150 pixels tall (could possibly happen on a small browser window).   • Is it possible to compute the minimum of three numbers by using two comparisons at the same time?

    I've been trying to think up of some way that I could do two comparisons at the same time to find the greatest/least of three numbers. Arithmetic operations on them are considered "free" in this case. That is to say, the classical way of finding the greater of two, and then comparing it to the third number isn't valid in this case because one comparison depends on the result of the other. Is it possible to use two comparisons where this isn't the case? I was thinking maybe comparing the differences of the numbers somehow or their products or something, but came up with nothing. Just to reemphasize, two comparisons are still done, just that neither comparison relies on the result of the other comparison. EDIT: what about: boolA = A^2 + B^2 < C^2 boolB = A > B if boolA then max=C else if boolB then max=A else max=B

I have been using extensively this plugin in my websites.You can use this plugin to move mouse around an image and see a zoomed in version of a portion of it.     I am supposed to send some artwork to the printers tomorrow and their guidelines requires it to be CMYK. I have installed the plugin Separate+ from the 'gimp-plugin-registy' package. I have also installed some ICC colour profiles from the 'icc-profiles' package. When I try to use the Separate+ plugin all I can get it to output is an image that looks like the original but with the colours inverted. How can I convert my image to CMYK?

  • Printer image correction

    Here is my problem: my printer and scanner (HP psc2410xi) prints darker than the photos taken and teh scanner has a background fuzz. I want to create and install files to have the printer lighten the photos it prints (yellow becomes dark yellow, etc) and delete the "fuzz" from the scanner image (you can see it on a blank scan and yes I did clean the scanner). I'm thinking there is a way to take a printed image, scan that in, and subtract the two images from each other to get the correction factor.
