  • Qt: How to use QTimer to print a message to a QTextBrowser every 10 seconds?

    Hello, I have working at this for hours and cannot figure it out nor can I find any help online that works. Basically the gist of what I am trying to accomplish is to have a Qt GUI with a button and a QTextBrowser. When I push the button I want it to diplay a message and then keep printing this message every 10 seconds. I figured I would use QTimer because it makes sense to have a timer to diplay the message every 10 seconds. When I originally implemented this into my buttonClicked() SLOT it caused the program to freeze. I looked online for a solution and found QApplication::processEvents(). So basically in my function I had something like this: while(1) { QTimer *timer; connect(...) //omitted parameters for this example timer.start(10000); ui->diplay->append("Message"); while(timer.isActive()) { QApplication::processEvents() } } I figured it would break out of the timer.isActive() while loop but it won't it simply stays in there. So I figured this is a threading issue. So I figured out how to use QThreads but I still can't get it to work. Basically when I create a thread with a timer on it and the thread tells the timer to start, the program closes and the console says "The program has unexpectedly finished".   • I am receiving a message saying I have duplicate sources but I can't seem to find a duplicate of the line described, any ideas?

    Today we had an interesting problem with file copying. We wanted to use xcopy to copy a file from one location to another and rename the copied file but do this impersonating another user. Getting the impersonation to work was fairly simple, however we then had the challenge of getting xcopy to work. The problem was that xcopy kept prompting us with a prompt similar to the following… Does file.xxx specify a file name or directory name on the target (F = file, D = directory)? At which point we needed to press ‘Y’. This seems to be a fairly common challenge with xcopy, as illustrated by the following stack overflow link… One of the solutions was to do the following… echo f | xcopy /f /y srcfile destfile This is fine if you are running from the command prompt, but if you are triggering this from c# how could we daisy chain a bunch of commands…. The solution was fairly simple, we eventually ended up with the following method… public void Copy(string initialFile, string targetFile) { string xcopyExe = @"C:\windows\system32\xcopy.exe"; string cmdExe = @"C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe"; ProcessStartInfo p = new ProcessStartInfo(); p.FileName = cmdExe; p.Arguments = string.Format(@"/c echo f | {2} {0} {1} /Y", initialFile, targetFile, xcopyExe); Process.Start(p); } Where we wrapped the commands we wanted to chain as arguments and instead of calling xcopy directly, we called cmd.exe passing xcopy as an argument.

Solving Problem: 1. Go to SharePoint Central Administration > Application Management > Content Databases (Underneath SharePoint Web Application Management). 2. Select the correct SharePoint web application – click on the name of the Content databases  - this will open the  “Manage Content Database Settings” page. 3. You might have installed different clients in your system and your .NET application is pointing to a home with inappoperiate client. What your .NET application should load is OCI.DLL with File version more than 8.1.7. According to the MSDN document Oracle and ADO.NET:   "The .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle provides access to an Oracle database using the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) as provided by Oracle Client software. The functionality of the data provider is designed to be similar to that of the .NET Framework data providers for SQL Server, OLE DB, and ODBC. "     The MSDN document System Requirements (Oracle) says: "The .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle requires Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.6 or later. That just makes syslog unusable, can I somehow get rid of them? I don't know and don't really care about the reason of those messages being there, partly because my motherboard doesn't have pcie slots on it and partly because everything I care about works perfectly. That might be a WiFi chip I disabled in bios but hey, I don't want wifi to be powered on, I'm not using it. So can I just suppress those messages?

    I am designing a simple webservice and want to use HMAC for authentication to the service. For the purpose of this question we have: a web service at example.com a secret key shared between a user and the server [K] a consumer ID which is known to the user and the server (but is not necessarily secret) [D] a message which we wish to send to the server [M] The standard HMAC implementation would involve using the secret key [K] and the message [M] to create the hash [H], but I am running into issues with this. The message [M] can be quite long and tends to be read from a file. I have found its very difficult to produce a correct hash consistently across multiple operating systems and programming languages because of hidden characters which make it into various file formats. This is of course bad implementation on the client side (100%), but I would like this webservice to be easily accessible and not have trouble with different file formats. I was thinking of an alternative, which would allow the use a short (5-10 char) random string [R] rather than the message for autentication, e.g. H = HMAC(K,R) The user then passes the random string to the server and the server checks the HMAC server side (using random string + shared secret). As far as I can see, this produces the following issues: There is no message integrity - this is ok message integrity is not important for this service A user could re-use the hash with a different message - I can see 2 ways around this Combine the random string with a timestamp so the hash is only valid for a set period of time Only allow each random string to be used once Since the client is in control of the random string, it is easier to look for collisions I should point out that the principle reason for authentication is to implement rate limiting on the API service. There is zero need for message integrity, and its not a big deal if someone can forge a single request (but it is if they can forge a very large number very quickly). I know that the correct answer is to make sure the message [M] is the same on all platforms/languages before hashing it. But, taking that out of the equation, is the above proposal an acceptable 2nd best?

For example: "N review(s):" One pattern would be reviews.title.singular="{0} review:" reviews.title.singular="{0} reviews:" And this may not support all languages. Or a more complicated case: "Found M question(s) with N comment(s)." This would be difficult to support in English?

    The problem here is the ProfileCatalog.xml file refers to the old assesmbly namesdlls. It does not get updated when the assembly names change. Steps to fix this issue: 1. Open the ProfileCatalog.xml file in the Shell project, and you'll find there are three ModuleInfo configuration items that need to have the solution name prefixed. 2. Under details is info: Failed to fetch http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/network-manager/gir1.2-networkmanager-1.0_0.9.1.90-0ubuntu4_i386.deb 404 Not Found Question: how to fix? Note: I tried downloading another program from USC (GnuCash) and it worked fine. And my internet connect is working fine (able to surf the web, etc) and Ubuntu is fully up to date and is able to download updates. It seems to be a problem just getting the "Advanced Settings" program. (Ubuntu 11.10).

    So I upgraded my ubuntu to 12.10 but the Windows 7 problem seems to have happened not after doing the upgrade but later. I am not sure. Ubuntu is running fine, but how can I recover my Windows7? I tried running BootRepair in Ubuntu but it keeps scanning system endlessly... If I recover Windows with the Windows DVD I assume I will lose the GRUB menu and then not possible to start Ubuntu. How do i then proceed to recover the GRUB? Can I recover using the Ubuntu DVD?

The Clipboard object contains the following elements: RenPrivateSourceFolder RenPrivateMessages RenPrivateItem FileGroupDescriptor FileGroupDescriptorW FileDrop FileNameW FileName FileContents Object Descriptor System.String UnicodeText Text FileGroupDescriptor contains a MemoryStream with the filename (Subject.msg) but I don't know how to create a copy from the outlook message from the Clipboard data, since none of the elements seem to contain the message itself. Any Suggestions?
