  • fail2ban iptable rule wont block

    So I set up fail2ban on my Debian 7 server, still I've been getting hit a lot and I dont know why is not blocking properly. The regex works, it recognizes the attempts but it seems the iptables rules it insert wont work, this is how it look iptables ouput looks after fail2ban tries to block.   • Exim, hot to route local mail to other adress

    I have setuped an Exim4 server on my debian wheezy server. This mail server only sends mail coming from localhost. The purpose is sending mail for my website. I have cron tasks and other services generating mails for root user. These mails are not stored in /var/mail as before, but sent by exim to [email protected]. I try to make exim send mails for root to [email protected] rather than [email protected]. I tried adding a .forward in /root with [email protected] as content. I tried also changing /etc/aliases with root: [email protected].   • Thunderbird 15.0.1 cannot use Exchange 2003 SMTP

    I'm having the strangest time getting a Thunderbird email client to connect to my Exchange 2003 server. I got the incoming IMAP account set up no problem, and I can receive mail. However sending mail will not work no matter what SMTP settings I enter. After checking the server, the proper settings should be port 25 with no authentication or connection security, which I have entered. I can ping the hostname of the server from the client machine in question. The Thunderbird error message I get is: "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server -hostname omitted- was lost in the middle of the transaction." So I went to the server and double checked the settings for Exchange's SMTP stuff. I have it correct. I tried to telnet (on the server) to localhost 25. It appears to connect and then disconnect immediately, no message, no nothing. When I telnet to other ports (POP-110 for example) I get proper connection messages and a stable connection. There are no firewalls on either the client or the server. There's a firewall on the network but LAN-LAN traffic is unrestricted. I can reproduce the Thunderbird error on a second client, and I can't get any client to be able to telnet in. Anyone have any ideas?

    After restarting a headless CentOS 6.3 machine, it lost outbound internet connectivity, i.e. I can still connect to the server via SSH (ssh root@**.126.18.56), but stuff such as ping google.com gives google.com: unknown host, and yum list some_package gives a lot of network errors.   • Cisco FWSM -> ASA upgrade broke our mail server

    We send mail with unicode asian characters to our mail server on the other side of our WAN... immediately after upgrading from a FWSM running 2.3(2) to an ASA5550 running 8.2(5), we saw failures on mail jobs that contained unicode. The symptoms are pretty clear... using the ASA's packet capture utility, we snagged the traffic before and after it left the ASA... access-list PCAP line 1 extended permit tcp any host 192.0.2.25 eq 25 capture pcap_inside type raw-data access-list PCAP buffer 1500000 packet-length 9216 interface inside capture pcap_outside type raw-data access-list PCAP buffer 1500000 packet-length 9216 interface WAN I downloaded the pcaps from the ASA by going to https://<fw_addr>/pcap_inside/pcap and https://<fw_addr>/pcap_outside/pcap... when I looked at them with Wireshark Follow TCP Stream, the inside traffic going into the ASA looks like this EHLO metabike AUTH LOGIN YzFwbUlciXNlck== cZUplCVyXzRw But the same mail leaving the ASA on the outside interface looks like this... EHLO metabike AUTH LOGIN YzFwbUlciXNlck== XXXXXXXXXXXX The XXXX characters are concerning... I fixed the issue by disabling ESMTP inspection: wan-fw1(config)# policy-map global_policy wan-fw1(config-pmap)# class inspection_default wan-fw1(config-pmap-c)# no inspect esmtp wan-fw1(config-pmap-c)# end The $5 question... our old FWSM used SMTP fixup without issues... mail went down at the exact moment that we brought the new ASAs online... what specifically is different about the ASA that it is now breaking this mail? Note: usernames / passwords / app names were changed... don't bother trying to Base64-decode this text.

  • Server taking too long to respond error

    Hi, This is my first post on serverFault and my first entry in to web server configuration. The hardware and software. CPU: GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz OS: Linux 2.6.18-128.el5 Memory: 2Gb Background. I am running a small database (MySQL), around 1000 records with each record containing 44 fields. At the start of each day “00:01” the tables are cleared and populated with fresh data. The are 10 remote PCs all running Winodws XP and Firefox internet browser. All remote PC’s are connected to the internet using a min 4Gb broadband connection. Each remote PC runs a URL which displays a dynamic page of data which is refreshed every 20 seconds. This is a continual process 24 hours a day. I problem I am having is on odd occasions throughout the day the PC browser error with “Server taking too long to respond error”. What I am trying to find our is if I have the correct setting in the httpd.conf file on the server. Any help or advice anyone can provide would be very helpful.   • Windows 7 product key, which is the valid one - in registry or on a sticker?

    I am not too familiar with the software licensing and how this all works, but I have a question regarding Windows 7 and partially Office - generally Microsoft products. I have been asked to assist our IT guy who wants to collect all the product IDs for Windows 7 and Office. I haven't been given much details how to go about it and how to collect it. After a bit of research I have decided to use a freeware that pulls the software licenses out of the registry. I thought that was the easiest and would provide the most accurate product IDs. I've used Belrac Avisor to obtain all the informations. It turns out that about 25 machines use the same product key. I have asked if the company has bought a commercial license or something but there isn't anyone available at the moment who could answer my question. I have told the IT guy that there are 25 machines using the same product key and asked if that is alright. He told me to go around and write the product keys from the sticker(label) on each machine. I am just not quite sure if that's the right approach specially that the numbers do not match.... So, now I see that the numbers aren't matching and my question is in terms of software licensing which is the VALID and correct product key to provide if ever questioned about software license? Is it the number on the sticker or is it the number stored in the registry?

    I have a situation where I need to calculate shipping values based on the length of the supply chain. Easy, however I need to have instances where an increased amount is required based on specific date criteria. My example is as follows: Shipvalue = 100 Date1 = 1/1/2013 (Jan) - ship 50% more than usual Date2 = 2/1/2013 (Feb) - ship 25% more than usual Date3 = 3/1/2013 (Mar) - ship 25% more than usual Supply chain length is: June - October 100 days November - March 140 days April - June 100 days The issue I have is that as there is an increase in the number of days, my formula: IF( Date1-(Supply chain length + any extra days)=today's date, shipvalue+(shipvalue X 50%), IF( Date2-(Supply chain length + any extra days)=today's date, shipvalue+(shipvalue x 50%) IF( Date2-(Supply chain length + any extra days)=today's date, shipvalue+(shipvalue x 50%), IF( preceding cell<>0,shipvalue, 0) ) ) ) Now the problem with this is that if the length of the supply chain increases then the formula misses all but the 1st increase. So, I thought of adding a variable that would be incremented and checked every time you made an increased shipping amount. So, how do I do both the calculation for the increased shipping value, and set the variable in one part of the IF statement?

  • Host to set up postfix to use external smtp server

    I have a web server and a mail server. Both have the same domain name except, one points to mywebsite.com and the other is mail.mywebsite.com. They have different IPs. I'm trying to set up postfix on my web server so it uses my mail server as the server that sends e-mails. Is there a work around for this? Do I need to set up my mail server with a separate domain name? Also I have my MX records set up for both mywebsite.com and mail.mywebsite.com. I'm not that experienced with this so if I need to give more info let me know. Thanks!

I ran system-config-lvm but the "Initialize Entry" button is greyed out. The unallocated space is not adjacent to the lvm but I cannot move the partitions in GParted like I was able to with ext3 in the past. I cannot create a new partition either as it says it cannot have more than 4 primary partitions. I don't see any option to create an extended partition. So my question is, how do I add that unallocated space to the lvm so I can grow the size of the / partition? I don't want to reinstall Fedora.

    I shrunk my windows partition and now have 10 GB of unallocated space that I now want to use to grow my / partition which is an ext4 in an lvm. I'm running Fedora 12.     Recently I have implement apache 2.4.1 in my web server.The problem is the rotate logs seems to be not functioning.Here is the output in the error_log: [core:error] [pid 13060:tid 47015847145408] (2)No such file or directory The command line that i have put in the httpd.conf are such as below: CustomLog "|bin/rotatelogs -l /var/log/logfile.%Y.%m.%d 86400" combined Is there anything wrong here with my setup?For your information I've already tested it in apache 2.2.22 and everythings is perfectly working.     I have a friend on the same network as me hosting a virtual machine using vmware server.The guest OS is Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003.He granted me administrative priveleges for the machine but when i try to add a user to that VM it says access denied. Moreover when i try to start the VM remotely using the command vmrun -T server -h https://computer-name.domain.com:8333/sdk -u domain/user -p passwd start "[standard] Win2k3Client1/Win2k3Client1.vmx" This shows unsufficient priveleges on host operating system but i am able to login with same username password on VMWare Web Access

  • OpenVSwitch and Virtualbox configuration

    I am trying to setup a lab network with OpenVSwitch (Virtual L3 Switch). I want to connect my 3 Virtualbox guest machines (running Debian 6) using OpenVSwitch. But, confused as what should I do first and how should I do this. I mean should I install OpenVSwitch on my VM or on my host machine? If I install on my host machine, then should I make to connect to my VMs. OR If I install OpenVSwitch on one of my VM, then how to connect the rest of the VMs to virtual switch. I know, there is option to connect internal networks in virtualbox, but I a want L3 switch to interconnect my VLANs. Can someone guide me here. Please & Thank you.

  • How to record desktop session with sound on Moblin?

    I have tried to record my desktop session with sound on a netbook running Moblin, but I can't seem to be able to record sound. xvidcap just says error accessing /dev/dsp. Are there some options I should pass to xvidcap? Should I use some other recording application? Update: I am using the latest xvidcap (1.1.7) and have read the FAQ. Unfortunately Moblin' gnome-volume-control looks nothing like what is linked to from the xvidcap FAQ; there is no way to to set or even look at the details the screenshot shows, as far as I know. alsamixer shows pulseaudio is used, if that gives anyone any clues. The device is Acer Aspire One.

  • Website is not clickable in Windows XP Internet Explorer 7

    I have installed Windows XP Virtual PC on Windows 7 to test a site that is having issues in IE7 on windows xp - the website loads up but you cannot click on hyperlinks - its like the website has frozen - now is this a browser support issue or OS issue? Can anyone shed any light on this? Is there any browser tools i can use to spot any problems? Sorry if i have been too vague - not much else to say really - completely lost.. Maybe this might help a little; Any guidance is appreciated UPDATE: I think i know what the problem maybe - its the jQuery UI reference that is causing issues with the site.   • YUM and RPM crash due to the liblua-5.1 library being missing

    I've been playing around with a LiveUsb install of basic Fedora with persistence. I attempted to install moonscript, which requires Lua and LuaRocks. After installing Lua and discovering there were flaws in the install which prevented LuaRocks from working, I used rpm to force Lua off so I could use yum to re-install it. The result was an error of this sort being yielded by both rpm and yum: There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: liblua-5.1.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've concluded from this that my Lua version installed a library which both yum and rpm are now connected to. Is there anyway to fix this without reformatting my drive and installing everything from scratch?

  • Delete data from a MSSQL standby database?

    Is it possible to delete data from a read only standby database that imports shipped log files? At least in my theory this shouldn't be possible because the deletion would change the LSN and the log shipping should break. What I need is a smaller sized database than the database that ships the logs. So basically I need a way to have the (readonly) standby server storing only the most recent data. Any ideas or recommendations on this?

  • trying to copy security groups to a user using dsmod group utility in AD
