• Data manipulation without server side

  Hi, I have to create a very simple webpage to show, filter and add data from not-yet-defined source (probably txt/xml/cvs). Records should be visible as a table, filtered using 3 criteria fields. There should be also possibility to add new records. My first thought was: XHTML + jQuery + csv2table + PicNet Table Filter. It does exactly what I want except adding rows - that is saving changes in source file (probably due to security risk). My question is - is there any possibility to do it without involving server side like asp.net, jee, php, sql? Source file is located on the server. Thanks for your ideas :-)

  I have a gridview with dropdownlist in it. When the user changes the item in the dropdownlist I want to save the new item in the database. I want this to happen using javascript and ajax like effect. I know how to access the dropdownlist inside gridview using javascript and I can get the new selectd item. But how can I save it to database without server side code? I know one way of doing this is using web services. I just want to know if there is/are any other ways to do it.

  Hi, I know how to canonicalise the case of URLs on incoming request to IIS7.5, in fact, there's a built in rule template to start from. But how about outbound (without changing the code)?   Hi, I am using gnu make and in a Makefile I have, I see below rule. I want to add a similar rule with a recipe, but when I add a rule and its receipe on the next line by giving a tab or space for the recipe, I get make error. dummy : @echo $(OBJS) When i turned on the vim command :set list , i see: dummy :$ ^I@echo $(OBJS)$ What exactly are the characters before the recipe line(second line) which indent it from the start of line? How do I enter them using keyboard (without having to copy paste the exisitng rule and then modifying it? Where would I find information for various spaces/indents to be used in creating a Makefile from beginning, by hand(Not a automake/or other tool created makefile)? thanks, -AD.

• C# mvc2 client side form validation with xval, prevent post

  I'm using xval to use client side validation in my asp.net mvc2 webapplication. Despite the errors it's giving when i enter text in a nummeric field it still tries to post the form to the database. The incorrect values are being replaced by 0 and saved to the database. But instead it shouldn't even be possible to try and submit the form. Can anyone help me out here? I've set the attributes as below; [Property] [ShowColumnInCrud(true, label = "FromPriceInCents")] [Required] //[Range(1, Int32.MaxValue)] public virtual Int32 FromPriceInCents{ get; set; } The controller catching the request looks as below; I'm getting no errors in this part. • Is it better to build HTML Code string on the server or on the client side?

  The result of the following process should be a html form. This form's structure varies from one to user. For example there might be a different number of rows or there may be the need for rowspan and colspan. When the user chooses to see this table an ajax call is made to the server where the structure of the table is decided from the database. Then I have to create the html code for the table structure which will be inserted in the DOM via JavaScript. The following problem comes to my mind: Where should I build the HTML code which will be inserted in the DOM? On the server side or should I send some parameters in the ajax call method and process the structure there? Therefore the main question involves good practice when it comes to decide between Server side processing or client side processing. Thank you!

• How do I turn off accelerometer input for my flipside view

  I have an iPhone 3.1.3 app which has only 2 methods of input in its main view. It has an info button to switch to a flipside view, and the only other input it takes in the main view is accelerometer movement. I want to switch off the accelerometer input when in the flipside view but haven't been able to find out how. I have the main view controller set as an accelerometer delegate, but did not do the same for the flipside view controller, though I suspect that it inherited it from the main view controller. I am really new to xcode and objective c, I have been reading these forums and a couple of developer books, but if anyone has any tips on other good places to look, please let me know.

  Hello, For a private project using the iPhone SDK (not for the app store), I would like to toggle wifi on & off. I've done something similar for Bluetooth, but can't find the required information for Wifi. I assume I need to use the MobileWifi framework. Can anyone give some directions and/or code? Most likely I expect I need a header file for the MobileWifi framework as well. Note once again, this is not for the app store, as Apple will not allow apps that use private frameworks such as this.

• Turn off enclosing <p> tags in CKEditor 3.0

  Is there a possibility to turn off the automatic enclosing of all written content within <p></p> in CKEditor 3.x? I tried CKEDITOR.config.enterMode = CKEDITOR.ENTER_BR; but this just changes the inline linebreaks to <br /> while leaving the enclosing paragraph. Currently writing "Test" produces this output <p> Test</p> but I want it to be simply Test Is there a configuration property for this or would another inline editor to be better suited for this?

• My OpenGL game switches Aero DWM Glass off.

  Hi ! I wrote a free game a few years ago: http://www.walkover.org. For the lobby and menus, it uses normal dialogs like win32. When the actual game starts it uses OpenGL. Now, on Windows 7, when the actual game starts, it switches windows aero glass off and switches it back on when the game is over. Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening? Some special flags that keep the glass on if it is on? (For newer, I have been using DirectX and this doesn#t happen there.) Maybe some (new) flag I have to specify somewhere? Thx Marc

  I am wrapping a number of functions from a vender API in C#. Each of the wrapping functions will fit the pattern: public IEnumerator<IValues> GetAggregateValues(string pointID, DateTime startDate, DateTime endDate, TimeSpan period) { // Validate Data // Break up Requesting Time-Span // Make Requests // Read Results (through another method call } 5 of the 6 requests are aggregate data pulls and have the same signature, so it makes sense to put them in one method and pass the aggregate type to avoid duplication of code. The 6th method however follows the exact same pattern with the same result-set, but is not an aggregate, so no time period is passed to the function (changing the signature). Is there an elegant way to handle this kind of situation without coding a one-off function to handle the non-aggregate request?

  I want to have username URL's and Base 58 short URL's to resources both off of the root url like this: http://mydomain.com/username #=> goes to given user http://mydomain.com/a3x9 #=> goes to given story I am aware of the possibilities of a user names conflicting with short urls, and I have a workaround, but what I can't figure out is the best way to set this up in rails. Can I do it in rails routes? Should I do something with a piece of Rack middleware? Should I set up a routing controller? Please let me know the best way to do this. Thanks so much!

  Hey, So I have been playing with jQuery for a good time now and I'm trying to get an effect to work properly. I have a main square div in the middle of the page and when someone clicks a link I want the box to look like its falling off the page and disappear, revealing a new page behind it. I'v been playing with the easing plugin but I can seem to get what I want to work. Basically I have the div's top margin or just top distance increased to a large number. However, this just makes the div fall but it also expands my page and its just much lower on the page. I basically want the div to fall out of site and not change the dimensions of the site.   Does anyone know why there would be one-off errors with NSLog and NSString? It works fine in 99% of my program, but for some reason this error appears in one of my model's description method: Example code: localFileId = 7; type = 2; localId = 5; NSLog(@"CachedFile localId=%d, 2=%d, localFileId=%d, type=%d, path=%@", localId, 2, localFileId, type, self.path); Example Result: CachedFile localId=5, 2=0, localFileId=2, type=7, path=(null) Notice the "0" that gets inserted in there, where it should be "2=2". This happens with NSString stringWithFormat as well.

• UI not redrawing after display powered off on Win 7

  Some portions of my application's interface are not getting refreshed after Windows 7 powers down the display. More specifically, I'm swapping out images, User Controls, and a button's content while the display is powered off and after it has been restarted, and this isn't being reflected in the UI until I minimize and restore the window or move it to one of the screen's edges. I've tried calling the Window's InvalidateVisual() method when the app was in a state where it needed to redraw, and that didn't solve the problem. I have only been able to reproduce this issue on Windows 7. Any ideas?

  Got a weird issue with g:checkbox not being saved when its switched from on to off for a child in one-to-many relationship. For example: class Parent { Boolean enabled static hasMany = [children: Child] static constraints = { enabled(blank: true, nullable: true) } } class Child { Boolean enabled static belongsTo = [parent: Parent] static constraints = { enabled(blank: true, nullable: true) } } Posting to Parent controller true/false values will work for Parent: <g:checkBox name="enabled" value="${parentInstance?.enabled}"/> However, not for Child! When posting to Parent controller I can only go from false to true, trying to change from true to false again will not work: <g:each in="${parentInstance.children}" status="i" var="child"> <g:checkBox name="child[${i}].enabled" value="${child?.enabled}" /> </g:each> That seems to be a bug. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Bottom of page gets cut off in Safari

  I can't figure out why this page: http://wohf.squarespace.com/newsletter/ gets cut off at the bottom in safari, seems to work fine in all other browsers (as far as I found so far)!! I am using some jquery and css for the sidebar and the content to match heights and for the canvas to run top to bottom with the footer always at the very bottom of the page. everything is working (as far as I can tell so far) on the rest of the site, the problem is only on this newsletter page and only in safari. Can anyone see the problem?

  I have a MVC web application with a table in the model that I would like to add to. I have the primary key set along with the other data fields, but every time I try to add to the table, I get the following error: "Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'TABLE_NAME' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF." I'm not sure why this problem is coming up, I have the primary key set as the identity and it is also set to auto increment in the Visual Studio table designer. Is there any way I can adjust the IDENTITY_INSERT parameter in the table designer in Visual Studio?? Or is there some other issue that might be causing this.

• Babel Django Off By 1 Cent

  I ran into a problem today while using BabelDjango and thought I would ask if anyone has ran into anything similar. I was using the tags in my templates, {% load babel %} and then {{amount_owed|currencyfmt:"USD"}} which returned the amount_owed minus one-cent. I thought maybe the returned value was 9.949999 which should still be $9.95 but when I returned the raw value it returned "9.95". However when I formatted it using the babel tags the rsult was off by one-cent. My 9.95 returned "$9.94" Anyone have any advice where to look to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.
