• Hosting images from unsecured servers (travelnow.com)

  Hi, My application needs to serve images hosted in travelnow.com (ie. this image) but the application only allow images hosted on a secured server (ie. https). What are my options? TravelNow's suggestion is as follows. How do I do this? Akamai image servers are not secure. Therefore you are unable to serve any of the image urls with a secure HTTPS URL. If you need to serve an image with HTTPS, you must temporarily save the image to your own secure server. This is suggested only for images to be saved as you use them or need them temporarily on the secure page. The hotel images file available from the Affiliate Center provides up to 1.5 million URLs at any time for all properties storing images in the Akamai system. It is not recommended or advised to store all files in advance on your own system since properties change and update images frequently. Although we are not responsible for the images each property stores on the Akamai system, YOU will be responsible for any customer issues arising from displaying outdated or saved image files on your own pages. • Dropdown in Access 2007 parameter query. Why not working

  Hello, I want a Access parameter query to ask an user for a value (a location in this case). When I type [Enter location] in the Criteria field it works fine: I get a dialog box (Enter Parameter Value) with a textbox and my text (Enter Location). So far, so good. This works (the result also). But now I want a dropdown/combobox (instead of a textbox ) for the user to pick a location. I made a form and type Forms![Form1]![CmbLocation] in the Criteria field. Like this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA011170771033.aspx But I still get a textbox (with the reference as textlabel). What am I doing wrong? Has anybody any advice?

• Outlook + Exchange 2007: it is possible to rid of local OST files?

  I am looking for a solution which would allow to use a convenience of Outlook as a mail client app while at the same time have no PST or OST files on a local computer. Even in 'non-caching' mode Outlook creates an OST file where it downloads everything from the Exchange server. OWA does not create any local files (except cookies I believe) but lacks some of the nice features Outlook has. Would it be feasible to place OST files on a network share? Maybe the solution exists for some other client+server pair?

  I'm very new to Version Control, and I was wondering if I could get some advice on how it can fit into website design. At the moment I'm working on a typical, simple website that includes images: A few .html files and a .css file One folder full of photographs Another folder with the corresponding thumbnails Can I just put the whole lot in a repository? Or is there a better way I could apply Version Control to it? How should I deal with the images? edit: How well will it work with changes to the images? What if I decide to try and optimise my photographs or resize them. I wont be able to see what exactly changed about the images, should comments be enough to keep track of that?

• Does Exchange Cache Mode affect email markers refresh time in other Outlook clients?

  We have users who share a single email account by using the Additional Email option under their accounts. Now, they want to assign emails to one another using the markers alongside the emails. We noticed that when changing the color of a marker, one Outlook client updated immediately, but another Outlook client did not. It looked like they were both set to "Cached Mode". Is it likely that caching effected the refresh of the client? Would it be better to turn off cached mode if we are using Outlook this way?

  I couldn't figure out how to do this in Outlook 2007, and I was hoping I could do it in Outlook 2010... I want the ability to quickly apply a category when composing a new email (typically a "Waiting For..." category) for things that need a response. It is possible to apply a category by clicking the "Options" ribbon, then the little arrow under the More Options section - but why can't I get the nice big "Categories" drop-down that's available in the "Tags" section of the main Outlook window. There are about a kabillion commands in the "Customize Ribbon" dialog box for the New Mail window, but I couldn't find anything about Categories. Should I just give up?

• Cannot access an application folder in Program files

  I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a new machine. I installed an application using a ClickOnce installer. The application runs fine, but I cannot access the application folder it created in c:\Program files (x86). It bombs with access denied. I try to view the properties on the folder and it takes about 1 minute to display (other folders take 1 second). It says I cannot view any information because I'm not the owner. It doesn't say who the current owner is (instead - Unable to display current owner.) but says I can take ownership. When I try it fails again with Access Denied, even though I have administrative permissions. Why can't I access this folder nor take ownership?

• If I implement a web-service, how do I respond to POST requests with JSON?

  I have to make a rather complex system for my diploma work. Logically it will consist of the following components: Database Web-service Management with web interface Client iOS application that will consume web-service I decided to implement all the first three components under .NET. Firstly I will create a database depending on the information load - this is clear. But then I need a web-service that will return data in JSON format for iOS clients to consume - that's obvious and not that hard to implement. For this I will use WCF technology. Now I have a question, if I implement the web-service, how will I be able to respond to POST requests with JSON? It probably involves WCF JSON or something related? But I also need some web pages as admin part, so will this web-application be able to consume my centralized web-services as well or I should develop it separately? I just want my web service to act like a set of controllers. There is a related question here but this doesn't quite reflect my question.

  Problem: In my current project, we use copy.asmx web services in SharePoint2010 to upload a document to a document library. In one of the document library, when uploading a document with a choice field, it blows up and the error message is Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. Analysis: After some research , we found out the problem is that we have 2 content types that both have a field called Document Type , although the internal name are different but the display name are exactly the same and this cause the problem. I am still not too sure why, it could possibly a SharePoint bug. Solution: After rename one of the field display name to a different name, it works like a charm.   I was in the unenviable position of needing to connect to Magento, a PHP ecommerce platform, web services using Java.  It was kind of difficult to get the classes generated from the WSDL so I figured I would throw the results up on my github account for any other poor sap in a similar position. Agile is our software development methodology and we're using Jira for that. We're using the Confluence plugin for Jira for documentation and I'm going to be writing a script that also dumps the PyDocs into Confluence. We're using virtualenv for sandboxing We're using zc.buildout for building This is whatever I can think of off the top of my head. Any other suggestions/tips would be welcome. • Update/Insert With ADF Web Service Data Control

  The Web service data control (WSDC) in ADF is a powerful feature that allows you to easily build a UI on top of WS interfaces exposed by other systems. However when you drag a WSDC to a page you usually get a set of output components where the data is shown. So how would you actually do an update operation on those values? The answer is that you need a call to another method in your WSDC that does the update - but what if you want to pass to it the actual values that you get from the get method you invoked before? Here is a demo showing how to do that: The two tricks that are shown here are: Changing the properties of items in the DC to be updateable - this gives you inputText fields instead of outputText fields. And passing the currentRow.dataProvider to the update method (and choosing the right iterator for this).

  In our web application, for each http-request there is a lot of computation that happens on back end. Output can vary from 10 sec - 1 Hour. In the mean time when it is computed, "Waiting.." is shown on the website for the respective user. But it so happens, that a user might cut down the service in between. So what all can be done on the back end so that the computation can be stopped in between to save resources? What different tactics can be applied here? And if better (instead of killing the thread directly), then a graceful termination policy should make wonders.
