  • Database with 5 Tables with Insert and Select

    - by kirbby
    hi guys, my problem is that i have 5 tables and need inserts and selects. what i did is for every table a class and there i wrote the SQL Statements like this public class Contact private static String IDCont = "id_contact"; private static String NameCont = "name_contact"; private static String StreetCont = "street_contact"; private static String Street2Cont = "street2_contact"; private static String Street3Cont = "street3_contact"; private static String ZipCont = "zip_contact"; private static String CityCont = "city_contact"; private static String CountryCont = "country_contact"; private static String Iso2Cont = "iso2_contact"; private static String PhoneCont = "phone_contact"; private static String Phone2Cont = "phone2_contact"; private static String FaxCont = "fax_contact"; private static String MailCont = "mail_contact"; private static String Mail2Cont = "mail2_contact"; private static String InternetCont = "internet_contact"; private static String DrivemapCont = "drivemap_contact"; private static String PictureCont = "picture_contact"; private static String LatitudeCont = "latitude_contact"; private static String LongitudeCont = "longitude_contact"; public static final String TABLE_NAME = "contact"; public static final String SQL_CREATE = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_NAME + "(" + IDCont + "INTEGER not NULL," + NameCont + " TEXT not NULL," + StreetCont + " TEXT," + Street2Cont + " TEXT," + Street3Cont + " TEXT," + ZipCont + " TEXT," + CityCont + " TEXT," + CountryCont + " TEXT," + Iso2Cont + " TEXT," + PhoneCont + " TEXT," + Phone2Cont + " TEXT," + FaxCont + " TEXT," + MailCont + " TEXT," + Mail2Cont + " TEXT," + InternetCont + " TEXT," + //website of the contact DrivemapCont + " TEXT," + //a link to a drivemap to the contact PictureCont + " TEXT," + //a photo of the contact building (contact is not a person) LatitudeCont + " TEXT," + LongitudeCont + " TEXT," + "primary key(id_contact)" + "foreign key(iso2)"; and my insert looks like this public boolean SQL_INSERT_CONTACT(int IDContIns, String NameContIns, String StreetContIns, String Street2ContIns, String Street3ContIns, String ZipContIns, String CityContIns, String CountryContIns, String Iso2ContIns, String PhoneContIns, String Phone2ContIns, String FaxContIns, String MailContIns, String Mail2ContIns, String InternetContIns, String DrivemapContIns, String PictureContIns, String LatitudeContIns, String LongitudeContIns) { try{ db.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + "contact" + "(" + IDCont + ", " + NameCont + ", " + StreetCont + ", " + Street2Cont + ", " + Street3Cont + ", " + ZipCont + ", " + CityCont + ", " + CountryCont + ", " + Iso2Cont + ", " + PhoneCont + ", " + Phone2Cont + ", " + FaxCont + ", " + MailCont + ", " + Mail2Cont + ", " + InternetCont + ", " + DrivemapCont + ", " + PictureCont + ", " + LatitudeCont + ", " + LongitudeCont + ") " + "VALUES (" + IDContIns + ", " + NameContIns +", " + StreetContIns + ", " + Street2ContIns + ", " + Street3ContIns + ", " + ZipContIns + ", " + CityContIns + ", " + CountryContIns + ", " + Iso2ContIns + ", " + PhoneContIns + ", " + Phone2ContIns + ", " + FaxContIns + ", " + MailContIns + ", " + Mail2ContIns + ", " + InternetContIns + ", " + DrivemapContIns + ", " + PictureContIns + ", " + LatitudeContIns + ", " + LongitudeContIns +")"); return true; } catch (SQLException e) { return false; } } i have a DBAdapter class there i created the database public class DBAdapter { public static final String DB_NAME = "mol.db"; private static final int DB_VERSION = 1; private static final String TAG = "DBAdapter"; //to log private final Context context; private SQLiteDatabase db; public DBAdapter(Context context) { this.context = context; OpenHelper openHelper = new OpenHelper(this.context); this.db = openHelper.getWritableDatabase(); } public static class OpenHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { public OpenHelper(Context context) { super(context, DB_NAME, null, DB_VERSION); } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub db.execSQL(Contact.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Country.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Picture.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Product.SQL_CREATE); db.execSQL(Project.SQL_CREATE); } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Log.w(TAG, "Upgrading database from version " + oldVersion + " to " + newVersion + ", which will destroy all old data"); db.execSQL(Contact.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Country.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Picture.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Product.SQL_DROP); db.execSQL(Project.SQL_DROP); onCreate(db); } i found so many different things and tried them but i didn't get anything to work... i need to know how can i access the database in my activity and how i can get the insert to work and is there sth wrong in my code? thanks for your help thats how i tried to get it into my activity public class MainTabActivity extends TabActivity { private Context context; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.maintabactivity); TabHost mTabHost = getTabHost(); Intent intent1 = new Intent().setClass(this,MapOfLight.class); //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,Test.class); //Testactivity //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,DetailView.class); //DetailView Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,ObjectList.class); //ObjectList //Intent intent2 = new Intent().setClass(this,Gallery.class); //Gallery Intent intent3 = new Intent().setClass(this,ContactDetail.class); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_mol").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.mol), getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_mol)).setContent(intent1)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_highlights").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.highlights),getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_highlights)).setContent(intent2)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tab_contacts").setIndicator(this.getText(R.string.contact),getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_contact)).setContent(intent3)); mTabHost.setCurrentTab(1); SQLiteDatabase db; DBAdapter dh = null; OpenHelper openHelper = new OpenHelper(this.context); dh = new DBAdapter(this); db = openHelper.getWritableDatabase(); dh.SQL_INSERT_COUNTRY("AT", "Austria", "AUT"); } } i tried it with my country table because it has only 3 columns public class Country { private static String Iso2Count = "iso2_country"; private static String NameCount = "name_country"; private static String FlagCount = "flag_image_url_country"; public static final String TABLE_NAME = "country"; public static final String SQL_CREATE = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TABLE_NAME + "(" + Iso2Count + " TEXT not NULL," + NameCount + " TEXT not NULL," + FlagCount + " TEXT not NULL," + "primary key(iso2_country)"; public boolean SQL_INSERT_COUNTRY(String Iso2CountIns, String NameCountIns, String FlagCountIns) { try{ db.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + "country" + "(" + Iso2Count + ", " + NameCount + ", " + FlagCount + ") " + "VALUES ( " + Iso2CountIns + ", " + NameCountIns +", " + FlagCountIns + " )"); return true; } catch (SQLException e) { return false; } } another question is it better to put the insert and select from each table into a separate class, so i have 1 class for each table or put them all into the DBAdapter class?

  • Coupling/Cohesion

    - by user559142
    Hi All, Whilst there are many good examples on this forum that contain examples of coupling and cohesion, I am struggling to apply it to my code fully. I can identify parts in my code that may need changing. Would any Java experts be able to take a look at my code and explain to me what aspects are good and bad. I don't mind changing it myself at all. It's just that many people seem to disagree with each other and I'm finding it hard to actually understand what principles to follow... package familytree; /** * * @author David */ public class Main { /** * @param args the command line arguments */ public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO code application logic here KeyboardInput in = new KeyboardInput(); FamilyTree familyTree = new FamilyTree(in, System.out); familyTree.start(); } } package familytree; import java.io.PrintStream; /** * * @author David */ public class FamilyTree { /** * @param args the command line arguments */ private static final int DISPLAY_FAMILY_MEMBERS = 1; private static final int ADD_FAMILY_MEMBER = 2; private static final int REMOVE_FAMILY_MEMBER = 3; private static final int EDIT_FAMILY_MEMBER = 4; private static final int SAVE_FAMILY_TREE = 5; private static final int LOAD_FAMILY_TREE = 6; private static final int DISPLAY_ANCESTORS = 7; private static final int DISPLAY_DESCENDANTS = 8; private static final int QUIT = 9; private KeyboardInput in; private Family family; private PrintStream out; public FamilyTree(KeyboardInput in, PrintStream out) { this.in = in; this.out = out; family = new Family(); } public void start() { out.println("\nWelcome to the Family Tree Builder"); //enterUserDetails(); initialise(); while (true) { displayFamilyTreeMenu(); out.print("\nEnter Choice: "); int option = in.readInteger(); if (option > 0 && option <= 8) { if (quit(option)) { break; } executeOption(option); } else { out.println("Invalid Choice!"); } } } //good private void displayFamilyTreeMenu() { out.println("\nFamily Tree Menu"); out.println(DISPLAY_FAMILY_MEMBERS + ". • how does private sales ecommerce site work on their SEO?

    - by 142857
    In a private sales ecommerce site, users need to sign up/in before they can access the pages of website. So, even if a user tries to directly navigate to a product page, he is redirected to sign in. I am wondering then how does these sites manage their SEO, as it would imply google too can't crawl these pages, or do they completely ignore the SEO benefit of allowing google to crawl the product and catalogue pages?

I know it must have something to do with AJAX, but I ain't got a clue how to move on now... so basically: how to call a c# method using AJAX?

  • "Instance variable 'xxx' accessed in class method....why?

    - by Michael Levy
    So please forgive me as I am very new to stackoverflow and to ios programming in general. I am attempting to change the text of a button i have, replacing current text with a date string (dateStringForInput) I am passing in from another class. The button is called myTodayButton and is declared in my .h file for my class inputMilesViewController... @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton *myTodayButton; Below is the code from my .m. +(void) changeButtonText:(NSString*) dateStringForInput{ NSLog(@"we got to changebuttontext"); [_myTodayButton setTitle:dateStringForInput forState:UIControlStateNormal]; } I am getting the following error "Instance variable "_myTodayButton" accessed in class method. I understand that this is written in a class method rather than an instance method but i cant figure out how to get this change to happen. the button which prompts this call to changeButtonText is in the other class which is creating dateStringForInput. please help! thanks so much! be gentle with me....a bit overwhelmed . :-)

  • Why doesn't EnumerableRowCollection<DataRow>.Select() compile like this?

    - by David Fox
    This works: from x in table.AsEnumerable() where x.Field<string>("something") == "value" select x.Field<decimal>("decimalfield"); but, this does not: from x in table.AsEnumerable() .Where(y=>y.Field<string>("something") == "value") .Select(y=>y.Field<decimal>("decimalfield")); I also tried: from x in table.AsEnumerable() .Where(y=>y.Field<string>("something") == "value") .Select(y=>new { name = y.Field<decimal>("decimalfield") }); Looking at the two overloads of the .Select() method, I thought the latter two should both return EnumerableRowCollection, but apparently I am wrong. What am I missing?

  • Setting a WebControls TabIndex based on the ControlId of another control

    - by Daniel Ballinger
    I have an ASP.NET Webforms site that is regularly having features added. The majority of time a new WebControl is added to the page and I need to increment the TabIndex to all subsequent controls on the page. I'd prefer a more robust solution than choosing an arbitrary gap between the initial assigned tab indexes. Setting the tab indexes using the designer tab order functionality is one option but I'd prefer to stay in the source view. Ideally, if I had three check boxes I'd like to be able to define the tabindex based off the previous controls tabindex. Then I'd only need to insert the new control and change one existing control. <asp:CheckBox ID="checkBoxA" runat="server" TabIndex="0"/> <asp:CheckBox ID="checkBoxB" runat="server" TabIndexAfterControlId="checkBoxA"/> <asp:CheckBox ID="checkBoxC" runat="server" TabIndexAfterControlId="checkBoxB"/> My first thought was to extend System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl with a new property, but extension properties aren't supported.

  • Static functions vs const functions

    - by baash05
    I'm looking at a member function int funct(int x) const; And I'm wondering if static int funct(int x); would be better. If a member function doesn't use any of the member variables should it be static. Are there any things that would discourage this?

  • Why is Html.DropDownList() producing <select name="original_name.name"> instead of just <select name

    - by DanM
    I have an editor template whose job is to take a SelectList as its model and build a select element in html using the Html.DropDownList() helper extension. I'm trying to assign the name attribute for the select based on a ModelMetadata property. (Reason: on post-back, I need to bind to an object that has a different property name for this item than the ViewModel used to populate the form.) The problem I'm running into is that DropDownList() is appending the name I'm providing instead of replacing it, so I end up with names like categories.category instead of category. Here is some code for you to look at... SelectList.ascx <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Web.Mvc.SelectList>" %> <%= Html.DropDownList( (string)ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues["PropertyName"], Model) %> Resulting HTML <select id="SkillLevels_SkillLevel" name="SkillLevels.SkillLevel"> <option value="1">High</option> <option value="2">Med</option> <option selected="selected" value="3">Low</option> </select> Expected HTML <select id="SkillLevels_SkillLevel" name="SkillLevel"> <option value="1">High</option> <option value="2">Med</option> <option selected="selected" value="3">Low</option> </select> Also tried <%= Html.Encode((string)ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues["PropertyName"])%> ...which resulted in "SkillLevel" (not "SkillLevels.SkillLevel"), proving that the data stored in metadata is correct. and <%= Html.DropDownList( (string)ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues["PropertyName"], Model, new { name = (string)ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues["PropertyName"] }) %> ...which still resulted in <select name=SkillLevels.Skilllevel>. Questions What's going on here? Why does it append the name instead of just using it? Can you suggest a good workaround? Update: I ended up writing a helper extension that literally does a find/replace on the html text: public static MvcHtmlString BindableDropDownListForModel(this HtmlHelper helper) { var propertyName = (string)helper.ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues["PropertyName"]; var compositeName = helper.ViewData.ModelMetadata.PropertyName + "." + propertyName; var rawHtml = helper.DropDownList(propertyName, (SelectList)helper.ViewData.Model); var bindableHtml = rawHtml.ToString().Replace(compositeName, propertyName); return MvcHtmlString.Create(bindableHtml); }

    Hi all, (LocalVariable)ABC.string(Name)= (Idatareader)datareader.GetString(0); this name value is coming from database.. what happening here is if this name value is null while reading it's throwing an exception? I am manually doing some if condition here. I don't want to write a manual condition to check all my variables.. I am doing something like this now.. string abc = (Idatareader)datareader.GetValue(0); if(abc = null) //assiging null else assiging abc value is there something like can we write extension method for this? thanks

  • ASP.Net MVC view unable to see HtmlHelper extension method

    - by larryq
    Hi everyone, We're going through an ASP.Net MVC book and are having trouble with using an extenstion method within our view. The Extension method looks like this: using System; using System.Runtime.CompilerServices; using System.Web.Mvc; namespace MvcBookApplication { public static class HtmlHelperExtensions { public static string JQueryGenerator(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper, string formName, object model); } } We use the extension method in our view like this: <%=Html.JQueryGenerator("createmessage", ViewData.Model)%> The problem is, that line of code says JQueryGenerator isn't a recognized method of HtmlHelper. I believe we've got the correct references set in the web project, but are there other things we can check? There's no using statement for views, is there?

  • Access static method from non static class possible in java and not in c#

    - by sagar_kool
    Access static method from non static class with object. It is not possible in C#. Where it is done by JAVA. How it works? example of java /** * Access static member of the class through object. */ import java.io.*; class StaticMemberClass { // Declare a static method. public static void staticDisplay() { System.out.println("This is static method."); } // Declare a non static method. public void nonStaticDisplay() { System.out.println("This is non static method."); } } class StaticAccessByObject { public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { // call a static member only by class name. StaticMemberClass.staticDisplay(); // Create object of StaticMemberClass class. StaticMemberClass obj = new StaticMemberClass(); // call a static member only by object. obj.staticDisplay(); // accessing non static method through object. obj.nonStaticDisplay(); } } Output of the program: This is static method. This is static method. This is non static method. How to do this in C#? thanks in advance..

  • Method signature Vs function prototype

    - by Maroloccio
    A formal definition of the two? Current Wiki articles denote their different contexts and applications, such as internal type signature "strings" in Java VMs (1) and C/C++ function prototypes informing compilers of upcoming method definitions (2) but... 1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_signature 2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_prototype ... where to look for a definition which clearly and formally distinguished one from the other? There is literature using the words prototype and signature almost interchangeably yet other uses appear strict and consistent, if language-specific. Background: I am writing documentation for a sample compiler written for a University project.

  • Why can't c# use inline anonymous lambdas or delegates?

    - by Samuel Meacham
    I hope I worded the title of my question appropriately. In c# I can use lambdas (as delegates), or the older delegate syntax to do this: Func<string> fnHello = () => "hello"; Console.WriteLine(fnHello()); Func<string> fnHello2 = delegate() { return "hello 2"; }; Console.WriteLine(fnHello2()); So why can't I "inline" the lambda or the delegate body, and avoid capturing it in a named variable (making it anonymous)? // Inline anonymous lambda not allowed Console.WriteLine( (() => "hello inline lambda")() ); // Inline anonymous delegate not allowed Console.WriteLine( (delegate() { return "hello inline delegate"; })() ); An example that works in javascript (just for comparison) is: alert( (function(){ return "hello inline anonymous function from javascript"; })() ); Which produces the expected alert box. UPDATE: It seems you can have an inline anonymous lambda in C#, if you cast appropriately, but the amount of ()'s starts to make it unruly. // Inline anonymous lambda with appropriate cast IS allowed Console.WriteLine( ((Func<string>)(() => "hello inline anonymous lambda"))() ); Perhaps the compiler can't infer the sig of the anonymous delegate to know which Console.WriteLine() you're trying to call? Does anyone know why this specific cast is required?

  • Scope of variables inside anonymous functions in C#

    - by Vinod
    I have a doubt in scope of varibles inside anonymous functions in C#. Consider the program below: delegate void OtherDel(int x); public static void Main() { OtherDel del2; { int y = 4; del2 = delegate { Console.WriteLine("{0}", y);//Is y out of scope }; } del2(); } My VS2008 IDE gives the following errors: [Practice is a class inside namespace Practice] 1.error CS1643: Not all code paths return a value in anonymous method of type 'Practice.Practice.OtherDel' 2.error CS1593: Delegate 'OtherDel' does not take '0' arguments. It is told in a book: Illustrated C# 2008(Page 373) that the int variable y is inside the scope of del2 definition. Then why these errors.

    Hi Is there a way to create an extension method for an type ? I only seem to be able to create them for instances. public static class MyExtensions { public static string Test(this string s) { return "test"; } } public class Test { static void TestIt() { string.Test(); // won't compile string s = null; s.Test(); } }
