• How to change the order of OS's on my boot screen on a dual boot setup?

  I'm running a dual boot configuration on my laptop using Ubuntu 10.04b and Windows 7 Home Premium. Windows 7 was the original OS and I added a 'side by side' installation of Ubuntu. Ubuntu, however, shows up first on the list. I'd like to change this order and make Windows 7 first, followed by Ubunutu, then all of the recovery boots after that. Any help on how this is done?

  Hello I'm trying to develop business logic for a dynamic site using nusoap on server side (because I need wsdls, and PHP SOAP extension can't generate wsdls), and PHP SOAP extenstion on client side. However, I can't get even login and getRole functions right. When i try to invoke client, I get following message Uncaught SoapFault exception: [Client] looks like we got no XML document in [some paths]... Wsdl does exist on server side, and client does read it (when I put wrong url for wsdl, I get an error). Can anyone help??

• Is the usage of Isolated Storage in Silverlight 3 a security concern

  I am using Silverlight 3 on my website. I have a Login Page for role based authentication, that routes users with different privileges to different parts of the website. I want to use something analogous to the Session Variables available in standard ASP.Net applications. I intend to use Isolated Storage to achieve this. But I am skeptical about security in this option, as the Isolated Storage exists on the client side, and can be manipulated on client side. I am new to the Isolated Storage concept and don't know about the security options provided by it in terms of Encryption and server-side validation etc. If any of you have used it or are aware of the security provided in this case, could you please shed some light on the same. • Conditional includes in Classic ASP - where the file may not exist on the server

  I am currently in a situation where I have to make some additions to an application written in classic ASP using server-side JScript on IIS. The additions that I need to make involve adding a series of includes to the server-side code to extend the application's capabilities. However, the inc files may not exist on the server in all cases, so I need the application to fall back to the existing behavior (ignore the includes) if the files do not exist, rather than generating an error. I know that this can't be accomplished using if statements in the JScript code because of the way that SSI works, and have not come across any ways of dynamically including the code on the server side, where the files may not exist. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this in classic ASP? Any help would be much appreciated.

  I'm starting a web application that will target Mobile Safari on iPhone/iPod Touch. I'm evaluating the available client-side JavaScript/CSS libraries/frameworks that are currently out there. These are the ones I'm currenlty aware of: iUI CiUI UiUIKit WebApp.Net iWebKit Apple's Dashcode Application - not really a standalone library/framework, but it provides/generates JavaScript, CSS, and images that conform to the native iPhone UI metaphors. Are there any others out there? I want to make sure I'm not missing any before I make a decision. I'm only looking for client-side JavaScript/CSS solutions and building one from scratch isn't an option because of time constraints. No server-side PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, etc. solutions. I am aware of the iPhone web applications, templates, frameworks? question that was asked, but this only mentioned iUI and UiUIKit. Thank you

• Upload 1GB files using chunking in PHP

  I have a web application that accepts file uploads of up to 4 MB. The server side script is PHP and web server is NGINX. Many users have requested to increase this limit drastically to allow upload of video etc. However there seems to be no easy solution for this problem with PHP. First, on the client side I am looking for something that would allow me to chunk files during transfer. SWFUpload does not seem to do that. I guess I can stream uploads using Java FX (http://blogs.sun.com/rakeshmenonp/entry/javafx_upload_file ) but I can not find any equivalent of request.getInputStream in PHP. Increasing browser client_post limits or php.ini upload or max_execution times is not really a solution for really large files (~ 1GB) because maybe the browser will time out and think of all those blobs stored in memory. is there any way to solve this problem using PHP on server side? I would appreciate your replies.

• Is it better to have client (Javascript) processing HTML rather than C# processing HTML?

  We are in the process of building a huge site. We are contemplating on whether to do the processing of HTML at server side (ASP .Net) or at the client side. For example we have HTML files which acts like templates for the generation of tabs. Is it better for the server side to get hold of content section (div) of HTML load the appropriate values and send the updated HTML to the browser or is it better that a chunk of data is passed onto client and make Javascript do the work? From the official tutorial, Getting started with BlazeDS, it shows messaging example with producer/consumer from API. but how can I implement server side which doesn't need to be invoke from Flex client, but from within server-side instead. I got some idea but I don't know how to do because I'm a Flex developer, not Java developer, so I think you can help me. In Google, there's a tutorial show about I need to extend ServiceAdapter class in Java-side, which extends Invoke method. Do I need to extend other class instead of this to do what I want? How to configure the message-config.xml to get the result like I describe above?

• Preload a lot of tiny pics

  I'm thinking about how to approach the problem at hand. There's a flash movie that requires a lot of relativly small images and I'm trying to optimize the time it takes for them to be preloaded. One thing I've considered it turning on KeepAlive in Apache on the server side. That works. But my mind still wonders if there's anything else ;-) So, what other approaches I may try? Is there a way to compress all those images and then unpack on client side? I have full control on both server and client side. Can even try installing something other than Apache. Cache is not an option because it already works and it's first time loading that bothers me here.

• Silverlight Project Not Updating When Ran

  I'm currently developing with VS2010 RC and Silverlight 4 and ran into small problem. My project when ran, would show a version I had built about 4 hours ago. (I built the project using the Business Template) The project itself will not update, meaning all the forms, and controls. I did the following: Restarted my computer Restarted Visual Studio Deleted the xap file in the ClientBin folder on the web side Deleted the Generated_Code folder on the client side Deleted the xap file from the Debug folder on the client side Opened the Solution's Configuration Manager and ensuring both my web and client projects are checked. Rebuilt, built, and cleaned every combination of the different projects and solution Is there a known bug or something else I can try?

But as there pointed out The current design of EntLib’s Validation Application Block uses the Composite pattern; that is, when we ask for validation for an object, it returns back a single validator object that contains a list of all the validation work to be done. While this is very convenient from a normal usage scenario, the unfortunate side-effect is that we can’t “peek inside” to see what the individual validations are that it’s doing, and therefore can’t generate the appropriate client-side validation hints. So how is it possible to implement client side validation for EntLib? Is there work around?

• How is joystick axis information formatted from a USB Joystick?

  I actually just have a rather small question, but I have had the HARDEST time finding information about it. For the application I am programming for, there will be a 3-axis joystick being connected via USB to a Windows XP computer, and it is being handled by directx. That information will then be sent elsewhere to an embedded controller. I don't need to know too much of the intricacies of how directx handles it, but I want to know, how is the data for the axes formatted? Nearest I can tell, most joysticks nowadays have 12 bits of resolution, so is the data output as a 12-bit 2's compliment number? And after that, is it represented as a signed 16-bit integer when it is captured from directx? I'd like to know this so I know how I will work with the data at the embedded platform side, such as how to format the packets sending data to the embedded side, as well ashow to use the information once it is on the embedded side.

  I want to clear the session on Page unload. Here is a condition : If user goes from Page A to Page B of the same site session must not get cleared. If user close the browser window or Tab(close the site),session must gets cleared. • parsing string off a configuration using strtok in C

  in the configuration file i have entries similar to this one: filepath = c:\Program Files\some value Where the path can contain spaces and there are no quotes on that string. I tried parsing this with strtok like: char *option; char *value; value = strtok(line, " ="); strcpy(option, value); value = strtok(NULL, " ="); where line is the line I am reading from the file, option will contain the left side of the equal (filepath) and value will contain the right side (c:\program files\some value). I know, it's poor coding, but I haven't found something better. sorry... In any case, for those options where there's no space in the right side it works great, but in those containing spaces it only return the string until the 1st space: c:\Program. Is there any other way to do this? Code is appreciated. Jessica

  How does one control the transparency over a 2D image in pylab? I'd like to give two sets of values (X,Y,Z,T) where X,Y are arrays of positions, Z is the color value, and T is the transparency to a function like imshow but it seems that the function only takes alpha as a scalar. As a concrete example, consider the code below that attempts to display two Gaussians.   So my application uses a LOT of js files. thats a lot of http requests. I decided to combine them dynamically at the server in packs of 3-4 files clubbed by functionality. My client side request is: ...script type="text/javascript" src="http://mydomain.com/core-js.php" ... My server side does: --core-js.php-- header("Content-type: application/x-javascript"); include_once('file1.js'); include_once('file2.js'); include_once('file3.js'); include_once('file4.js'); I am setting a far future expire header on core-js.php. My question is, would core-js.php be cached at the client side? If it would be, could someone please explain how? Thanks!

• Getting "on the wire" Size of Messages in WCF

  While I'm making SOAP or REST invocations to WCF, I'd like to have the channel stack on either end (client and server) record the on-the-wire size of the data received. So I'm guessing I need to add a custom behavior to the channel stack on either side. That is, on the server side I'd record the IP-header advertised size that was received. On the client side I'd record the IP-header advertised size that was returned from the server. But this presupposes that this information is visible to a custom WCF behavior at the channel stack level. Perhaps it is only visible at the level of ASP.NET (at a layer beneath WCF)? In short, does anyone have any further insight on if and how this information is accessible? I must qualify that this "size" data will be collected in a production environment, as part of regular business logic calls. This question is related to my earlier bandwidth question.

• Tcp Socket Closed

  I always thought that if you didn't implement a heartbeat, there was no way to know if one side of a TCP connection died unexpectedly. If the process was just killed on one side and didn't exit gracefully, there was no way for the socket to send FIN or let the other side know that it was closed. (See some of the comments here for example http://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=566568 ) But there is a stock order server that I connect to that has a new "cancel all orders on disconnect feature" that cancels live orders if the client dis-connects. It works even when I kill the process on my end, and there is definitely no heartbeat from my app to it. So how is it able to detect when I've killed the process? My app is running on Windows Server 2003 and the order server is on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10. Does Windows detect that the process associated with the socket is no longer alive and send the FIN?

• CodeIgniter: json_decode array issues

  On my client side I'm sending an ajax request with jQuery in the following matter: $.post(script.php, { "var1":"something", "var2":"[1,2,3]" }, function(data) { }, "json"); On the server side, in the CodeIgniter's controller I'm receiving the values like so: $var1 = trim($this->input->post('var1')); $var2 = trim($this->input->post('var2')); My question is how do I convert the string in $var2 into a PHP array. I tried using json_decode($var2, true) but it returns a null since "[1,2,3]" is not a legal JSON string by itself. Also, if you believe there is a better way for me to read the values on the server-side please show me how. Thank you.

In Java we need to set System Property: javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword="" and it has to be used automatically, But how is it been used in Python? I can't enter pass phrase all time the client connects.
