  • Can Android OS be programmed to interface with a external device via the mini-USB port?

    Basic example, if I bought a chipset with a light socket and bulb soldered to the chipset; then put a USB cable with the mini-USB plug on the end to get plugged into the android phone. Can I write a Java application to turn on/off the light, get the status of the light(on/off) and maybe power a super-small led/bulb with power from the phone itself? Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • How to communicate with a USB device under Windows and Java?

    I'd like to communicate with a USB device under Windows and Java but I can't find a good library to do so. I don't want the user to have to install any extra hardware or device drivers to make this work. That is, I want to be able to interact with USB just like other Windows applications do. I am familiar with jUSB and JSR 80 but both seem to be dead projects (at least for Windows).

  • Internet doesn't work by default

    After upgrading to Precise, I am required to run 'sudo dhclient eth0' in a terminal in order to get the internet to work. Everything worked perfectly fine on Oneiric, so It's really puzzling me. I'm thinking it could possibly be something with the kernel, but who knows. When you are in the process of creating your custom build process template, this can be very frustrating. Thanks to Ed Blankenship how has found a little trick to speed up the opening of the template. It now only takes a few seconds.     When you click help, you don’t want to wait for your computer to bring it to you.  Here’s how you can speed up the help dialog in Windows and Office. If you have a slow internet connection, chances are you’ve been frustrated by the Help dialog in Windows and Office trying to download fresh content every time you open them. This can be great if the updated help files contain better content, but sometimes you just want to find what you were looking for without waiting.  Here’s how you can turn off the automatic online help. Use Local Help in Windows Windows 7 and Vista’s help dialog usually tries to load the latest content from the net, but this can take a long time on slow connections. If you’re seeing the above screen a lot, you may want to switch to offline help.  Click the “Online Help” button at the bottom, and select “Get offline Help”. Now your computer will just load the pre-installed help files.  And don’t worry; if there’s a major update to your help files, Windows will download and install it through Windows Update.   Stupid Geek Tip: An easy way to open Windows Help is to click on your desktop or Start Menu and press F1 on your keyboard. Use Local Help in Office This same trick works in Office 2007 and 2010.  We’ve actually had more problems with Office’s help being tardy. Solve this the same way as with Windows help.  Click on the “Connected to Office.com” or “Connected to Office Online” button, depending on your version of Office, and select “Show content only from this computer”. This will automatically change the settings for Help in all of your Office applications.     I made a camera in DX9. To move forward I press the Up arrow. To rotate on the Y axis I use the mouse. When I perform these movements on their own the camera moves at the speed I want. However, if I hold down Up and move the mouse at the same time then the camera moves a lot faster than it should. I want it to move at the same speed as it does when only the Up arrow is pressed. I think I need to normalize something somewhere but not sure what and not sure where. Have tried various combinations without success so if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks.     I'm testing out the Google Chrome Speed Tracer on a few common web pages and taking a look through the results. One thing I'm not sure I understand is what the "Request Timing" and "Response Timing" properties of resources are actually measuring. Initially I thought Request Timing must measure the time from a request for a resource being sent and when that request arrived at the server. However, I then wondered how the Speed Tracer would actually have any way of measuring this. Furthermore, the Response Timing that I'm getting for resources tends to be far less than the Request Timing (e.g. 500ms request, 1ms response), which is a little bit suss. So is anyone able to explain exactly what Request Timing and Response Timing are measuring?

  • Slow Speeds when unzipping with PHP onto a NFS, how can I speed it up?

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to boost my NFS speed and php uploads. File is uploaded to the webserver's local tmp dir With PHP I copy the file userxxx.zip to the NFS With PHP I extract the userxxx.zip on the NFS to another dir on the NFS. What I'm finding is the file is in Step 3, the file is being read through the NFS by the web server, processed by the web server, and uploaded back across the NFS. Speeds as expected are very slow. Might a possible solution be to get the Fileserver to extract the zip? a) Webserver copies the file to the NFS b) Webserver makes a web service call to the Fileserver c) Fileserver can now unzip the file like it's local and the speeds should be much faster. I would appreciate any suggestion anyone how people have approached this problem. (I'm aware that php ZipArchive() is very slow, and I'll likely use java or php exec unzip to speed it up) Thanks

    I have several external USB drives currently (1x500GB and 2x1TB). If I were to purchase the ReadNAS NV+ 4TB NAS, would I be able to: Possibly add even more USB drives to it with a HUB? Export NFS shares of the data on the USB drives keeping the current ext3 fs and data on the USB drives intact? Does anyone have any caveats with this system they feel I should know?

    I have a problem with a Blu ray disk I bought. I talked to a Sony technician who advised me to plug a "USB Flash Memory Stick" into the Blu-ray player. Is this something specific? Is there a difference between the following two? "USB Flash Drive" "USB Flash Memory" When I go to Curry's or other sites that sell USB Sticks, they only talk about "USB Flash Drives". I've been in computing for many years and know the basics, but "memory" and "drive" are different things to me.
