Create an autocompleter like the Facebook status update

Hello I'm trying to create a div with contenteditable like the Facebook status update. Then I mean I want to show an autocomplete box when the user have written @. How would you do that. Currently I'm just playing with keypress and check if the keycode = 64. Somehow that works, but it doesn't validate if there's a space before the alfa, or if the user has unfocused the box, then focused it again. Any ideas? Or do you know about any plugin that works something like that? Tnx

CSS Padding Issue w/ submit button

This is a dumb problem but I can't seem to set the padding on a submit button properly. No matter what I input for padding, the width and height of the button never changes. Here is the css: .green_submit { color: #fff; background-color: #94c909; border-right: 1px solid #6d9307; border-bottom: 1px solid #6d9307; border-left: none; border-top: none; padding: 25px; } And the HTML: <input type="submit" class='green_submit' value="Validate" /> Any obvious problems here? How can I manipulate the padding on a submit button?

How do I do client-side validation in WPF using WCF RIA Services

Hi! I've created a WCF RIA Service that I'd like to use with a WPF application. I've added several System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations validation rules on the entities meta-data, all which work great on the server when I call .SubmitChanges(changeSet) from the client. I'd also like to validate my entities on the client side before I sumbit my changes to the server but I have no idea how to do so. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated! Thanks....

My page use to validate for XHTML but I added the addthis buttons to page and it gives a new namespace: E.G.: <a addthis:url="http://domain.tld/path/to/stuff" addthis:title="Teh Title here"> I tried: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:addthis="http://addthis.com/" lang="en"> Doesn't work. Can we register namespaces for the validator??? I AM EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO VALID XHTML. I like addthis, I think its the best button of its kind (yes, I need to use the namespace properties, I know you dont have to but I do for what im doing PHP project) :(

Adding JTextField to a JPanel and showing them

I'm building a little app using Java and Swing in NetBeans. Using NetBeans design window, I created a JFrame with a JPanel inside. Now I want to dynamically add some jTextFields to the JPanel. I wrote something like that: Vector textFieldsVector = new Vector(); JTextField tf; int i = 0; while (i < 3) { tf = new JTextField(); textFieldVector.add(tf); myPanel.add(tf); //myPanel is the JPanel where I want to put the JTextFields i++; } myPanel.validate(); myPanel.repaint(); But nothing happens: when I run the app, the JFrame shows with the JPanel inside, but the JTextFields don't. I'm a total newbie in writing graphical Java apps, so I'm surely missing something very simple, but I can't see what.

How do I pre-empt IIS StaticFileHandler with my own HttpHandler

Hi there, I'm building a website referencing an assembly that contains several js scripts as embedded resources, some controls which use those scripts and a 'HttpResourcesHandler' that knows how to retrieve those embedded scripts when asked for them. In web.config I have an entry in the section that reads <add verb="*" path="/embedded/controlscripts/*" validate="false" type="CWeb.Controls.Web.HttpResourcesHandler, CWeb.Controls.EditBox" /> This control adn the website work absolutely fine when debugging with the Visual Studio web development server, but if I then switch the website to run under IIS (v7 - I'm running Vista and there appears to be no problem with debugging the site using IIS 5 or 6), the control can no longer access the scripts. I get a HTTP 404.0 error screen indicating the StaticFileHandler cannot find the file. I know that - it's embedded. So the StaticFileHandler appears to be grabbing the request for the script before my own and returning a 404. How do I tell IIS to use my own resource handler for the embedded/controlscripts directory rather than the staticfilehandler? I'm running the website in classic mode by the way.

Can't see images used in slideshow or other jQuery plug-ins in Internet Explorer 8

I am getting a weird error. I can see images in slideshow, lightbox, etc. in Firefox and Chrome but in Internet Explorer 8 there are no images. Something is wrong with JavaScript/jQuery I think. I am using jQuery 1.4.2, jquery.flow.1.2.min.js jquery.bgpos.js jquery.easing.1.3.js jquery.lightbox-0.5.min.js jquery.validate.js cufon-yui.js jquery.galleriffic.js DD_belatedPNG.js clearbox.js Please check this. I have pasted images under slideshow, you can see those at http://kaisweb.com/projects/resume/ and http://kaisweb.com/projects/resume/index.php?p=templates. I tried to search but couldn't find anything. Even if I remove jQuery, still there are no images in Internet Explorer 8.

Needing to copy properties before validation

I have a farily complex model needing to be validated, the problem is that this model is used on two different places, one where you register your customer and one where you simply add addresses. Some fields on the address are simply not visible on the register customer form. So when i check if ModelState.IsValid i get false of course since eg. the name is not entered on the billing address, but it is on the customer. That is why i want to before validation occurs, copy a couple of fields to the model, and then validate. I am somewhat lost though and i need help. My action looks something like this: public ActionResult Register(WebCustomer customer) { customer.CopyProperties(); if(TryUpdateModel(customer)) { ... } ... But it always returns false, and ModelState.IsValid continues to be false.

So the form elements have the class="required" attribute. input type="text" name="last_name" class="required"/ Now if i want to apply some css properties to the input fields of this form - how do I do that. I do not want to declare a general css for all input elements - I have declared the css as follows: input.form { color: #000; background: #fff; border: 2px solid #E1E1E1; font-size: 16pt; width:150px; } And I want to use it this way input class="form" type="text" name="last_name" class="required"/ But this wont work as there are two class attributes here. If you are forced to use an Anemic domain model, where do you put your business logic and calculated

Our current O/RM tool does not really allow for rich domain models, so we are forced to utilize anemic (DTO) entities everywhere. This has worked fine, but I continue to struggle with where to put basic object-based business logic and calculated fields. Current layers: Presentation Service Repository Data/Entity Our repository layer has most of the basic fetch/validate/save logic, although the service layer does a lot of the more complex validation & saving (since save operations also do logging, checking of permissions, etc). The problem is where to put code like this: Decimal CalculateTotal(LineItemEntity li) { return li.Quantity * li.Price; } or Decimal CalculateOrderTotal(OrderEntity order) { Decimal orderTotal = 0; foreach (LineItemEntity li in order.LineItems) { orderTotal += CalculateTotal(li); } return orderTotal; } Any thoughts?

Custom Validator with an OR Condition

Hi all, Right now i have an asp.net 2.0 app which allows a user to search by the following fields Location (Required if there is nothing in idnumber field) Address (Required if there is nothing in idnumber field) Zip (Required if there is nothing in idnumber field) **OR** IDNumber. (Required if there is nothing in any of the other fields) What i'd like to be able to do is validate this client side on button click and display a summary of errors. i.e. if a user leaves every criteria blank. I'd like to display "You must enter a IDNumber or "Location, Address, and Zip to continue" I've never used the Custom Validation control so here are some questions. 1) Is it able to do this? 2) Does anyone have an example of how to do this? Extending configuration for .Net 3.5 Applications

Due to a requirement in my current project, I have to build a configuration manager to handle configurations that merge local config info with database one. Custom configuration doesn't fit my needs, problem is that I don't know what's the type before loading certain information, for example: Loading database information I will able to know what's myhandler's type. Not previously. So I thought to write my own handler but I can't let set blank as type for sections, in fact .net requires to know what's the type to match myhandler nodes. I'm thinking on building a different parser to read XML nodes but I would prefer to match this structure. I've not found any information to do that yet, is there any way? Can I extend or hook up something into the framework to be capable of loading on-the-fly types and validate nodes? Thanks in advance.

Fully customized login system in Django?

Hey, I am currently writing an application which I plan to sell as SaaS. Without giving away "secrets," I can say that it is basically a "document editing system" in which many users will be submitting documents. The basic heirarchy is this: Institution Individual Document Sub-document So each Individual should be able to BROWSE all documents that were submitted by anybody in their institution, but should only be able to EDIT documents that they created. No individual should even be aware of the existence of another Institution--that should all be completely hidden. I have written a Django/Python class that would facilitate this, but every document regarding authentication that I have read requires that I use the User object. Is this just a limitation of Django, or is there a way to do this? If there is a way, how can I get my own "Individual" class details attached to the "request" objects so I can validate the things I should be showing the users?

zend framework error

I started getting the following error today, but don't know why and what caused it. [31-May-2010 03:52:10] PHP Fatal error: Cannot run code from this file in conjunction with non encoded files in ZendFramework-1.10.5/library/Zend/Validate/Hostname/Com.php on line 547 I'm using zend framework version 1.10.5; although version 1.09 also has the same problem. I only get this error in my production server, and cannot duplicate it from anywhere else. Also note that I only get this error when I submit form with recaptcha. If I remove recaptcha, it works fine. Any help is appreciated.

Multiple Forms on the Same Page with Rails

So I'm building a rails app for high school students and I've hit a problem when it comes to creating users. I want the students to only be able to create accounts if they select their school and type in their school's password correctly. What is the correct / easiest way of doing this? Should I create a gatekeeper to the user#new action that they have to pass first or if their a way that on the same page a student can submit to forms. One would be the regular username, email, password using: form_for @user do ... end But then creating another form for the high-school / high-school password selection. Ideally the controller would be able to get the params of the high-school form, validate those, then go on to create the user from the user params. Is this possible using rails? My setup: Rails 3 and Ruby 1.9.2dev Thank you!

I have a situation where we are trying to autofill some form data on the second page of a signup and I was wondering if there's a way to bypass the entire form validation when we pass in only a couple of fields? so we have something like form = NewForm(request.POST) Where request.POST only contains some of the fields in NewForm(). So the page loads and there is feedback about how some fields are not filled in yet. This all happens from the GET request of the second page. Best Practice - Validating Input In Simple GUI Application?

I'm writing a GUI app with wxwidgets in C++ for one of my programming classes. We have to validate input and throw custom exceptions if it doesn't meet certain conditions. My question is, what is best practice when it comes to this? Should I write a seperate function that checks for errors, and have my event handler's call that function? Or should I do my error-checking in my event handlers? Or does it really matter? Thanks!

Polling versus socket servers for online Flash games

Hi, I want to make an online flash game, it will have social features but the gameplay will be primarily single-player. For example, no two players will appear on the screen at once, the social interaction will be through asynchronous messages, there won't be real-time chat or anything. Much of the logic would happen in the client, the server would validate the client logic, but it wouldn't need to be totally synchronous, which is why I'm thinking polling might be satisfactory. I have read in many places that socket servers can be more efficient than using polling for online games, but is that mainly a consideration for games that are more multi-player with more mult-player interactions than the game I have descriebed? If many users are playing online at the same time, but each playing a relatively isolated game, and not interacting to in real-time with each players, could polling be okay, or would using sockets be advisable no matter what if you have an online game that you envision many people playing at the same time? SQL CHECK constraint issues

I'm using SQL Server 2008 and I have a table with three columns: Length, StartTime and EndTime. I want to make a CHECK constraint on this table which says that: if Length == NULL then StartTime <> NULL and EndTime <> NULL else StartTime == NULL and EndTime == NULL I've begun to try things like this: Length == NULL AND StartTime <> NULL AND EndTime <> NULL Obviously this is not enough, but even this simple expression will not validate. I get the error: "Error validating 'CK_Test_Length_Or_Time'. Do you want to edit the constraint?" Any ideas on how to go about doing this?
