• POST attack on my website

  Hi, I have a site (humanisms.co.uk) which incorporates a voting system, ie. user clicks "Up" and it sends a parameter to a PHP script via AJAX, the PHP inserts vote into MYSQL db and the new "Up" vote is sent back to the page to update the vote count. This is working great but i've noticed that the number of votes for one of my questions shot up last night. I viewed my webhosts access logs and saw this line: 108.27.195.232 - - [03/Mar/2011:15:20:18 +0000] "POST /vote.php HTTP/1.1" 200 2 "http://www.humanisms.co.uk/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_6; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/10.0.648.114 Safari/534.16" This is repeated well over 100 times and sometimes more than once a second. Now i know they probably arent sitting there clicking Vote but running some sort of PHP loop? I'm not worried about SQL injection but what can i do to prevent this same IP address from doing this or what can i do in general to avoid this scenario. I should also say that there's no login so anyone can click using the voting system. Thanks

• Sparse virtual machine disk image resizing weirdness?

  I have a partitioned virtual machine disk image created by vmware. What I want to do is resize that by 10GB. The file size is showing as 64424509440. Or 60GB. So I ran this: dd if=/dev/zero of=./win7.img seek=146800640 count=0 It ran without errors and I can verify the new size is in fact 75161927680 bytes or 70GB. This is where it gets a little odd. I started the guest domain in xen which is a Windows 7 enterprise machine. What I was expecting to see in diskmgmt.msc is 2 partitions. 1 system partition at the start of around 100MB and near 60GB partition (which is C drive) followed by around 10GB of free space. Actually what I saw was a 70GB partition!?! That confused me... so I decided to run the Check Disk which when you set it on the C drive it asks you to reboot so it'll run on boot. So I did that and during the boot it ran the checks. It got all the way through stage 3 and didn't show any errors at all. Looked at the partitions in disk manager and now C drive has shrunk back to 60GB and there is no free space. What gives? Ok, I thought I'd try mounting it under Dom0 and examining it with fdisk. This is what I get when mounted sudo xl block-attach 0 tap:aio:/home/xen/vms/otoy_v1202-xen.img xvda w sudo fdisk -l /dev/xvda Disk /dev/xvda: 64.4 GB, 64424509440 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7832 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x582dfc96 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/xvda1 * 1 13 102400 7 HPFS/NTFS Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/xvda2 13 7833 62810112 7 HPFS/NTFS Note the cylinder boundary comment. When I run sudo cfdisk /dev/xvda I get: FATAL ERROR: Bad primary partition 1: Partition ends in the final partial cylinder Press any key to exit cfdisk So I guess this is a bigger problem than first thought. How can I fix this? EDIT: Oops, the cylinder boundary thing is not a problem at all since disks have used LBA etc. So that threw me for a moment... still the problem exists... Linux is showing free space is 10GB which is what I expect. The problem is windows isn't seeing this?

• Multiple git repos in plesk virtual hosts

  Each plesk vhost only has one user access that httpdocs directory. I want to manage a whole bunch of separate virtual hosts using Git. Does this mean installing a separate Git repository with a separate user / ssh public key combination for each virtual host or is there a way of centralising it at all? Gitosis sounds like it might help - but I'm not sure if it gets round pushing the files to each virtual host.

  Hello, I need to have at least one microphone on Windows to make Skype calls, but i have a VPS with Windows 2003 server with no audio device. I googled a lot and finally i found something called "Virtual Audio Cable", a tool to install virtual audio drivers ( http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html ). I tried many times but i couldn't get this driver work, so i'm asking if someone know a similar solution, i mean a virtual microphone or a way to make skype working without any microphone. • ip-up does not trigger when using built-in cisco vpn on mac osx lion

  I am using Cisco VPN client over lion and I want to make the ip-up and ip-down work. There is no sign of any action taken when I connect or disconnect this VPN connection. I really doubt whether the syntax has been changed or even this kind if connection is triggering the ip-up. Logically, it must be set over ppp but when using the following codes and instructions on them, there is no sign of any output in the log file: http://www.macfreek.nl/mindmaster/Modify_PPTP_Routing_Table http://www.aidanfindlater.com/use-vpn-for-specific-sites-on-mac-os-x Going for error, which there is no sign of it, using the following page: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060616150640529 I couldn't find the /var/log/ppp/vpnd.log log file. Also the files are given full permission 0755 or a+x or even 777 using the following command: sudo chmod a+x /etc/ppp/ip-up Any clue on how to debug this would be appreciated. I am totally confused, netstat -rn -f inet doesn't show the routes. Even when the routes are added manually, closing the VPN connection does not run the ip-down and the routes must be deleted manually.

• Bridging Virtual Networking into Real LAN on a OpenNebula Cluster

  I'm running Open Nebula with 1 Cluster Controller and 3 Nodes. I registered the nodes at the front-end controller and I can start an Ubuntu virtual machine on one of the nodes. However from my network I cannot ping the virtual machine. I am not quite sure if I have set up the virtual machine correctly. The Nodes all have a br0 interfaces which is bridged with eth0. The IP Address is in the 192.168.1.x range. The Template file I used for the vmnet is: NAME = "VM LAN" TYPE = RANGED BRIDGE = br0 # Replace br0 with the bridge interface from the cluster nodes NETWORK_ADDRESS = 192.168.1.128 # Replace with corresponding IP address NETWORK_SIZE = 126 NETMASK = 255.255.255.0 GATEWAY = 192.168.1.1 NS = 192.168.1.1 However, I cannot reach any of the virtual machines even though sunstone says that the virtual machine is running and onevm list also states that the vm is running. It might be helpful to know that we are using KVM as a hypervisor and I am not quite sure if the virbr0 interface which was automatically created when installing KVM might be a problem.

• Reserving an IP with Netgear router from Time Warner

  I tried everything but keep getting the following error: "Duplicated MAC address". Nothing is duplicated. I disconnected the PC that I would like to assign the IP. Basically this is important as I will configure some port forwarding and my notebook must always get the same IP from DHCP. This is called DHCP reservation but apparently is not working on this router. Has anyone being luck to have this working? The model is CG814WG and you have to click on LAN IP under web administration, -Sergio

• DNS and DHCP not agreeing on an IP address

  I'm having a problem where our Windows Server 2003 domain controller assigns my Windows 7 computer one IP address (x.x.x.75) via DHCP, but reports another (x.x.x.84) via DNS. This causes some interesting behavior on the network. If I change my adapter settings to get IP and DNS addresses from DHCP, I can access the internet, but no one on our network can access my computer. If I change my IP manually to what DNS says it is, I lose my internet access, but everyone can get to my computer again. I know that we have some old, invalid reverse DNS pointers hanging around (a reverse lookup on an IP address often gives more than one result, usually not including the one that is correct), so that could be contributing, but my problem is recent, and the invalid reverse pointers have been around a long time. What's going on, and how do I fix it?

• Varnish + Nginx + multiple IP addresses

  This is my first shot at making Varnish work on my dedicated server which hosts 2 domains with 2 separate IP-addresses. My simplified setup is as follows: Nginx conf server { listen ip-address-1:8080; } server { listen ip-address-2:8080; } Varnish vcl backend default { .host = "127.0.0.1"; .port = "80"; } And in the varnish conf I have defined VARNISH_LISTEN_PORT=80 Varnish and Nginx (and php-fpm) are running properly but when I try to go to my website it shows the welcome to nginx page. The headers don't have the x-varnish in it. It seems that for some reason varnish is not listening to port 80. I'm suspecting this has to do with the vcl file where it is listening to the 127.0.0.1 host. I'm running two wordpress sites. Where should I look for to get Varnish working properly? • Static NAT in AWS's Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

  Currently in a VPC with a public and a private subnet, all internet bound traffic from the private subnet could be routed via an NAT instance. The NAT instance will port address translate the packet's source IP to use the NAT instance's elastic IP, so the public server can reply to this public address. This is a PAT mechanism. My question is there a way for me to do a static NAT on my NAT instance -- Using the same NAT instance to static NAT an unassociated but reserved elastic IP to a private subnet host. This NAT instance will behave like a physical firewall doing static nat'ing for a bunch of private ip's.

I'm trying to run a node.js web server (which I do not want to run as root), using only one of those ip addresses (it would be very bad if the traffic from all the ip addresses were forwarded).   I am trying to make an iptables gateway. I ordered 3 dedicated server from my hosting company all with dual nics. One server has been given all the ip addresses and is connected directly to the internet and has its other nic connected to a switch where the other servers are all connected also. I want to setup iptables so for example the ip address 50.0.2.4 comes into my gateway server it fowards all the traffic to a private ip address using the second nic. This way the second nic can do what ever it needs and can respond back also. I also want it setup that if any of the other servers needs to download anything over the inernet it is able to do so and by using the same ip address that is used for its incomming traffic. Lastly I would like to be able to setup dns and other needed networking stuff that i maybe not thinking about.

  Hello, I'm looking for the proper way to share the Coldfusion engine for all my Virtual Hosts. My question is, is there any way to share the same Coldfusion instance for every virtual host, mantaining the sites webroot outside of the cfusion folder?
