  • Is it a good practice by commenting with owner name? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: How do you keep track of the authors of code? Here's several scenarios which may comment with owner name: bug fixing, i.e. // fixed bug 123 by xxx, solution is ... ... fixme/todo tags, i.e. // TODO: .... by xxx. hacks, i.e. // HACK! ... by xxx For case #2, please refer to Comment Tags The obvious advantage is that we can ease tracking by names. The downside is the risk of abuse. Actually my previous company allowed this way of commenting style, but current employer completely disallows names appearing in code. In my opinion, I would vote for discreetly commenting with author names. I'm open to hear from you if this commenting style is good or bad. Thanks.

    I have a setting in my theme that allows the site owner to set the maximum number of posts ($maxPosts) to display in a "Recent Posts" menu. I'm using a custom script to generate the recent posts (because the Recent Posts widget does not highlight the current page, which I need for my css). My menu also is set up to display a "View All" link below the post listing, but only if the actual post count is $maxposts I'm trying to work out the best method for getting the post count and comparing it to $maxposts in order to determine whether or not to show a "View All" link. I'm sure there's probably a better way, but here's my code. I'm looking to optimize it to support very large post counts... $cat=get_cat_ID('excludeFromRecentPosts'); $catHidden=get_cat_ID('hidden'); $myquery = new WP_Query(); $myquery->query(array( 'cat' => "-$cat,-$catHidden", 'post_not_in' => get_option('sticky_posts') )); $myrecentpostscount = $myquery->found_posts; if ($myrecentpostscount > 0) { //show the menu if ($myrecentpostscount > $maxPosts) { //show "View All" link } } I really only need to determine if the total post count from the query is greater than the maxPost setting in order to determine whether to show the "View All" link, so I'm wondering if, in the case there are thousands of posts matching the criteria, to avoid performance issues, I don't need to get a count of all of them. I just need to count up until the point of maxPosts + 1, and that's where I'm struggling a bit because the user could elect to make maxPosts = -1 which means they want to show all posts. But this would be impractical, so I would probably set a upper limit of 20...

    I need an algorithm that allows me to determine an appropriate <priority> field for my website's sitemap based on the page's views and comments count. For those of you unfamiliar with sitemaps, the priority field is used to signal the importance of a page relative to the others on the same website. It must be a decimal number between 0 and 1. The algorithm will accept two parameters, viewCount and commentCount, and will return the priority value. For example: GetPriority(100000, 100000); // Damn, a lot of views/comments! The returned value will be very close to 1, for example 0.995 GetPriority(3, 2); // Ok not many users are interested in this page, so for example it will return 0.082

  • Facebook API - Get comments

    Our business has a Facebook Fan Page. The fan page doesn't seem to generate any emails to us when updates are made to the page, whether someone adds a new status or someone comments on one of the statuses etc. Currently, we are running a very crude script to grab the content of the page and then use regular expressions to get the information we require. Obviously this is not fool proof and I'm looking into alternatives to this method. I've been looking at the facebook API and wonder if the rest server might be an option. I cannot, however, seem to find out how to return information of fan page statuses and their comments. Is anyone able to direct me how to use the API to retrieve this information. I am an admin of the fan page. The programming language I'm using is PHP. Many thanks.

  • CurvyCorners in Wordpress Theme only rounds some corners in IE - what am I doing wrong?

    Hi, I'm implementing the CurvyCorners script on a blog I'm developing. The script works in IE on some parts of the blog, but not others. I've used the following code to add it to the functions.php file (as suggested by someone smarter than me): function load_curvy_corners() { wp_enqueue_script('curvycorners', get_bloginfo('stylesheet_directory') .'/scripts /curvycorners.src.js','','',true); } add_action('init', 'load_curvy_corners'); Here is the site I'm working on: http://www.bellissimafashions.com/blog/ The container and logo area appear rounded in IE, but the navigation area is still square and seems to take awhile to load now. I don't know if this has something to do with the fact the theme I'm using (Pure II by beathemes) has placed the left side in the footer.php?

    What am I doing wrong here? I'm serializing a value, storing it in a database (table bb_meta), retrieving it... OK so far... but then I have to unserialize it twice. Shouldn't I be able to just unserialize once?   • Getting a summary of comments in Jira

    I currently maintain a Jira system at work and I have been tasked with a rather strange request which is too find a way of 'making a summary of a comment'. In the ideal situation this would allow a user to write a comment and a quick summary however I doubt this is something available in Jira / something that is feasible. Alternatively a summary of all comments would be nice that will allow our technical writers a way to clarify fixes through the information in the comments. If any one out there has ANY suggestions or ideas on this they are most welcome :) Sorry if this question is slightly general but I cannot find any thing that remotely helps on google, wondering if any Jira experts can push me in the right direction.     the bellow function is working fine but I need to run it inside the loop. If done so the post content is actually taken from the last post of my WP_Query. Not from the one that should appear.     At present I am displaying a list of the last 5 posts in a site's blog in its footer using this mysql query: SELECT post_title, guid, post_date FROM wp_posts WHERE post_type = 'post' AND post_status = 'Publish' ORDER BY post_date DESC LIMIT 5 How can I edit this query to restrict the search to a particular category id? I thought it would be as simple as looking for a category field in the posts table but it isn't!

  • Custom Wordpress Post Page Breaks if More Thank 2 Posts?

    I have a very custom template, and it works great if there are 1 or 2 posts on the blog page. But as soon as a 3rd post is added, it alters the structure of the template... Literally moves a div inside of another and I can not understand why. The code for the blog template is here, and a screenshot of the structure as it should be and another showing the misplaced div when a third post is there. Does this make any sense, any ideas? In the code i have used <fb:comments></fb:comments> But when the page is rendered, a iframe appears where My FB page is visible. Sometimes there is nothing! My Test Page Can someone please suggest how can I proceed?
