  • Wanted: Good examples of Scala database persistence

    I'm would like to use Scala to persist data to a relational database, so what I am looking for are examples of CRUD operations using Scala.     I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have.     I need to verify that the provided string has only allowed characters using Oracle regular expressions (REGEXP_LIKE). Allowed chars are: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789_-. Trying to execute SELECT CASE WHEN REGEXP_LIKE('abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789_-.' , '^[a-z0-9_\-\.]+$') THEN 'true' ELSE 'false' END tmp FROM dual; results in 'false'. Any ideas on this?

    Lets assume my database table structure is something like | items | weight | |============|==========| | item_1 | 50 | | item_2 | 90 | | item_2 | 45 | | item_2 | 60 | | item_3 | 40 | In the select statement, I want to show an item only for once with the highest weight also ordered by height. So the result should be : | items | weight | |============|==========| | item_2 | 90 | | item_1 | 50 | | item_3 | 40 | I tried something like SELECT DISTINCT items, weight FROM mytable ORDER BY weight DESC but it didn't work because the results are actually distinct. How can I make that selection?

  • Want to check fields for data fast.

    We have a database setup that consists of two parts: a static structure, and dynamic additions. For each database, the dynamic can be different, and sometimes we don't have data for all the dynamic fields. Rigt now, we check for empties by looking at the total count of records in the entire table, but we want to move to a more refined method of checking for empties if possible. Is it possible to quickly check through several hundred fields and see which ones are empty and which ones are populated?

  • linq .net with dynamically generated controls

    This is a very strange problem and i really dont have a clue whats causing it. What is supposed to happen is that a call to the BLL then DAL returns some data via a linq SPROC call. The retunred IMultipleResults object is processed and all results stored in a hashtable. The hashtable is stored in session and then the UI layer uses these results to dynamically generate some gridviews. Easy you would think. But if i run the code i dont get any gridviews. If i take out the call to the BLL and DAL the gridviews appear but with nothing in them? Why is it the page renders correctly when i take out the call to get the data? Thanks.

  • MySQL Query Where Column Like Column

    I'm working on a small project that involves grabbing a list of contacts which are stored for each group. Essentially, the database is set up so that each group has a primary and secondary contact stored as, unsurprisingly, Group.Primary and Group.Secondary. The objective is to pull every Primary and Secondary contact for each Group and display them in a sortable table. I have the sortable table all worked out, but I have come across a small problem. Each primary and secondary field can have more than one contact separated by a comma. For instance, if Primary contained 123,256 , it would need to pull both Contacts with IDs 123 and 256. I had intended to use a query formatted like this: SELECT * FROM Group G, Contacts C WHERE G.Primary LIKE %C.ID% OR G.Secondary LIKE %C.ID% so that I could just skip the comma part, but I can't seem to find a working query for this. My question to you is, am I just overlooking something here? Is there a simple query that would let me do this? Or am I better off getting the groups and contacts separately, and combine the two later. I think the former is a little easier to understand when read, which is a plus as this is a shared project, but if that is not possible I will do the latter. This code is simplified, but it gets the point across.

    I'm currently trying to optimize the sluggish process of retrieving a page of log entries from the SQLite database. I noticed I almost always retrieve next entries along with count of available entries: SELECT time, level, type, text FROM Logs WHERE level IN (%s) ORDER BY time DESC, id DESC LIMIT LOG_REQ_LINES OFFSET %d* LOG_REQ_LINES ; together with total count of records that can match current query: SELECT count(*) FROM Logs WHERE level IN (%s); (for a display "page n of m") I wonder, if I could concatenate the two queries, and ask them both in one sqlite3_exec() simply concatenating the query string. How should my callback function look then? Can I distinguish between the different types of data by argc? What other optimizations would you suggest?

    I've got the following in one of my Oracle procedures, I'm using it to generate XML -- v_client_addons is set to '' to avoid null error OPEN C_CLIENT_ADDONS; LOOP FETCH C_CLIENT_ADDONS INTO CLIENT_ADDONS; EXIT WHEN C_CLIENT_ADDONS%NOTFOUND; BEGIN v_client_addons := v_client_addons || CLIENT_ADDONS.XML_DATA; END; END LOOP; CLOSE C_CLIENT_ADDONS; -- Do something later with v_client_addons The loop should go through my cursor and pick out all of the XML values to display, such as : <add-on name="some addon"/> <add-on name="another addon"/> What I would like to achieve is to have an XML start/end tag inside this loop, so I would have the following output <addons> <add-on name="some addon"/> <add-on name="another addon"/> </addons> How can I do this without having the <addons> tag after every line? If there are no addons in the cursor (cursor is empty), then I would like to skip this part enitrely

  • Relating text fields to check boxes in Java

    This program requires the user to login and request a database to access. The program then gets a connection object, searches through the database storing the column names into a vector for later use. The problem comes with implementing text fields to allow the user to search for specific values within the database. I can get the check boxes and text fields to appear using a gridlayout and add them to a panel. How do I relate the text fields to their appropriate check box? I've tried adding them to a vector, but then they can't also be added to the panel as well. I've searched for a way to name the text fields as the loop cycles through the column names, but it seems impossible to do without having them declared ahead of time. This can't be done either, as it's impossible to determine the attributes that the user will request. I just need to be able to know the names of the text fields so I can test to see if the user entered information and perform the necessary logic. Let me know if you have to see the rest of the code to give an answer, but hopefully you get the general idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.     I have 2 tables: Dictionary - Contains roughly 36,000 words CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `dictionary` ( `word` varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`word`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; Datas - Contains roughly 100,000 rows CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `datas` ( `ID` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `hash` varchar(32) NOT NULL, `data` varchar(255) NOT NULL, `length` int(11) NOT NULL, `time` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`ID`), UNIQUE KEY `hash` (`hash`), KEY `data` (`data`), KEY `length` (`length`), KEY `time` (`time`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=105316 ; I would like to somehow select all the rows from datas where the column data contains 1 or more words. I understand this is a big ask, it would need to match all of these rows together in every combination possible, so it needs the best optimization. I have tried the below query, but it just hangs for ages: SELECT `datas`.*, `dictionary`.`word` FROM `datas`, `dictionary` WHERE `datas`.`data` LIKE CONCAT('%', `dictionary`.`word`, '%') AND LENGTH(`dictionary`.`word`) > 3 ORDER BY `length` ASC LIMIT 15 I have also tried something similar to the above with a left join, and on clause that specified the like statement.

The thing is, SQLite doesnt need to be "installed" since its just a flatfile database, but on the other hand, SQLserver (Express/normal) need to be installed before use. My Question is simple: Is there a way by which i can find out if an instance of SQLserver has been installed on the local machine by using a C# program?

    For those of you who live and breath database design, have you ever found compelling reasons to have multiple FK's in a table that all point to the same parent table? We recently had to deal with a situation where we had a table that contained six columns which were all FK columns to the same parent table. We're debating whether this indicates a poor design on our part or whether this is more common than we think. Thanks very much.

  • MSSQL Server using multiple ID Numbers

    I have an web application that creates printable forms, these forms have a unique number on them, the problem is I have 2 forms that separate numbers need to be created for them. ie) Form1- Numbered 2000000-2999999 Form2- Numbered 3000000-3999999 dbo.test2 - is my form information table Tsel - is my autoinc table for the 3000000 series numbers Tadv - is my autoinc table for the 2000000 series numbers What I have done is create 2 tables with just autoinc row (one for 2000000 series numbers and one for 3000000 series numbers), I then created a trigger to add a record to the coresponding table, read back the autoinc number and add it to my table that stores the form information including the just created autoinc number for the right series of forms. Although it does work, I'm concerned that the numbers will get messed up under load. I'm not sure the @@IDENTITY will always return the right value when many people are using the system. (I cannot have duplicates and I need to use the numbering form show above.
