Rob lived in it for a few years, making many improvements then sold it to Kirk McAleer. </p> </div>

  • Placing component on Glass Pane

    - by Chris Lieb
    I have a subclass of JLabel that forms a component of my GUI. I have implemented the ability to drag and drop the component from one container to another, but without any visual effects. I want to have this JLabel follow the cursor during the drag of the item from one container to another. I figured that I could just create a glass pane and draw it on there. However, even after I add the component to the glass pane, set the component visible, and set the glass pane visible, and set the glass pane as opaque, I still so not see the component. I know the component works because I can add it to the content pane and have it show up. How do I add a component to the glass pane? package wpics509s10t7.view; import javax.swing.*; import wpics509s10t7.model.Tile; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.dnd.DragSource; import java.awt.event.AWTEventListener; import java.awt.event.MouseEvent; /** * GlassPane tutorial * "A well-behaved GlassPane" * http://weblogs.java.net/blog/alexfromsun/ * <p/> * This is the final version of the GlassPane * it is transparent for MouseEvents, * and respects underneath component's cursors by default, * it is also friedly for other users, * if someone adds a mouseListener to this GlassPane * or set a new cursor it will respect them * * @author Alexander Potochkin */ public class GlassPane extends JPanel implements AWTEventListener { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private final JFrame frame; private TileView tv; // subclass of JLabel private Point point; private WordStealApp wsa; public GlassPane(JFrame frame, WordStealApp wsa) { super(null); this.wsa = wsa; this.frame = frame; setOpaque(true); setLayout(null); setVisible(true); composite = AlphaComposite.getInstance(AlphaComposite.SRC_OVER, 0.5f); } public void beginDrag(Tile t, Point p) { this.tv = new TileView(t, null, this.wsa, true); this.add(this.tv); System.out.println("Starting point: x=" + p.getX() + ",y=" + p.getY()); this.tv.setLocation((int)p.getX(), (int)p.getY()); this.tv.setVisible(true); } public void endDrag(Point p) { System.out.println("Ending point: x=" + p.getX() + ",y=" + p.getY()); this.remove(this.tv); this.tv.setVisible(false); this.tv = null; } public void eventDispatched(AWTEvent event) { if (event instanceof MouseEvent) { MouseEvent me = (MouseEvent) event; if (!SwingUtilities.isDescendingFrom(me.getComponent(), frame)) { return; } if (me.getID() == MouseEvent.MOUSE_EXITED && me.getComponent() == frame) { if (tv != null) { tv.setVisible(false); } point = null; } else { MouseEvent converted = SwingUtilities.convertMouseEvent(me.getComponent(), me, frame.getGlassPane()); point = converted.getPoint(); } repaint(); } } /** * If someone adds a mouseListener to the GlassPane or set a new cursor * we expect that he knows what he is doing * and return the super.contains(x, y) * otherwise we return false to respect the cursors * for the underneath components */ @Override public boolean contains(int x, int y) { if (getMouseListeners().length == 0 && getMouseMotionListeners().length == 0 && getMouseWheelListeners().length == 0 && getCursor() == Cursor.getPredefinedCursor(Cursor.DEFAULT_CURSOR)) { return false; } return super.contains(x, y); } }

  • searchdisplaycontroller: change the text of the searchbar

    - by kudorgyozo
    Hello, SHORT DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: I want to set the text of a searchbar without automatically triggering the search display controller that is bound to it. LONG DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM: I have an iphone application with a search bar and a search display controller. The searchdisplaycontroller is used for autocomplete. For autocomplete i use an sqlite database. The user enters the first few letters of a keyword and the result are shown in the table of the searchdisplaycontroller. An sql select query is executed for every character typed. this part works ok, the letters have been entered and the results are visible. The problem is the following: If the user selects a row from the table I want to change the text of the searchbar to the text that was selected in the autocomplete results table. I also want to hide the search display controller. This is not working. After the search display controller disappears the textbox in the search bar is empty. I have no idea what's wrong. I didn't think something so simple as changing the text of a textbox can get so complicated. I have tried to change the text in 2 methods: First in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath method (for the search results table of the search display controller), but that didn't help. The text was there while the search display controller was active (animating away) but after that the textbox was empty. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSLog(@"didSelectRowAtIndexPath"); if (allKeywords.count 0) { didSelectKeyword = TRUE; self.selectedKeyword = (NSString *)[allKeywords objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; NSLog(@"keyword didselectrow at idxp: %@", self.selectedKeyword); shouldReloadResults = FALSE; [[self.mainViewController keywordSearchBar] setText: selectedKeyword]; //shouldReloadResults = TRUE; [[mainViewController searchDisplayController] setActive:NO animated: YES]; } } I also tried to change it in the searchDisplayControllerDidEndSearch method but that didn't help either. The textbox was...again.. empty. edit: actually it wasnt empty the text was there but after the disappearing animation the results of the autocomplete table are still there. So it ends up getting worse. - (void)searchDisplayControllerDidEndSearch:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller { NSLog(@"searchDisplayControllerDidEndSearch"); if (didSelectKeyword) { shouldReloadResults = FALSE; NSLog(@"keyword sdc didendsearch: %@", selectedKeyword); [[mainViewController keywordSearchBar] setText: selectedKeyword]; // In this method i call another method which selects the data from sqlite. This part is working. - (BOOL)searchDisplayController:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller shouldReloadTableForSearchString:(NSString *)searchString { NSLog(@"shouldReloadResults : %i", shouldReloadResults); if (shouldReloadResults) { NSLog(@"shouldReloadTableForSearchString: %@", searchString); [self GetKeywords: searchString : @"GB"]; NSLog(@"shouldReloadTableForSearchString vege"); return YES; } return NO; } Please ask me if it's not clear what my problem is. I need your help. Thank you

  • Recommended ASP.NET Shared Hosting (USA)

    - by coffeeaddict
    Ok, I have to admit I'm getting fed up with www.discountasp.net's pricing model and this annoyance has built up over the past 8 years or so. I've been with them for years and absolutely love them on the technical side, however it's getting ridiculously expensive for so little that you get. I mean here's my scenario: 1) I am running 2 SQL Server databases which costs me $10/ea per month so that's $20/month for 2 and I only get 500 mb disk space which is horrible 2) I am paying $10/mo just for the hosting itself which I only get 1 gig of disk space! I mean common! 3) I am simply running 2 small apps (Screwturn Wiki & Subtext Blog)...so I don't really care if it's up 99% or not, it's not worth paying a total of $300 just to keep these 2 apps running over discountasp.net Anyone else feel the same? Yes, I know they have great support, probably have great servers running behind this but in the end I really don't care as long as my site is up 95% or better. Yes, the hosting toolset rocks. But you know I bet you I can find a similar set somewhere else. I like how I can totally control IIS 7 at discountasp and I can control my own app pool etc. That's very powerful and essential. But anyone have any good alternatives to discountasp that gives me close to the same at a much more reasonable cost point? I mean http://www.m6.net/prices.aspx gives you 10 SQL Databases for $7 and 200 gigs disk space! I don't know about their tools or support but just looking at those numbers and some other hosts I've seen, I feel that discountasp.net is way out of line. They don't even offer any purchasing discounts such as it would be nice if my 2nd SQL Server is only $5/month not $10...stuff like this, to make it much more realistic and fair. Opinions (people who do have discountasp.net, people who have left them, or people who have another host they like)??? But geez $300 just to host a couple DBs and lightweight open source apps? Not worth the price they are charging. I'm almost at a price point that enables me to get a decent dedicated server! I really don't care about beta ASP.NET frameworks support. Not a big deal to me. If you have alternative suggestions rather than your experience with discountasp, I'd like to know how their toolset is. Do you have complete control over your DB in terms of adding users, and same goes for the web app pool, etc.? Discountasp.net's control panel rocks. I don't want to loose the ability to at least control and add virtual directories, recycle my dedicated app pool myself, backup my sql database myself, through tools which is what discountasp does give you. I'd also want to know that the hoster at least gets the latest and greatest in terms of non-beta ASP.NET related frameworks available to its shared hosters.

  • Why do UInt16 arrays seem to add faster than int arrays?

    - by scraimer
    It seems that C# is faster at adding two arrays of UInt16[] than it is at adding two arrays of int[]. This makes no sense to me, since I would have assumed the arrays would be word-aligned, and thus int[] would require less work from the CPU, no? I ran the test-code below, and got the following results: Int for 1000 took 9896625613 tick (4227 msec) UInt16 for 1000 took 6297688551 tick (2689 msec) The test code does the following: Creates two arrays named a and b, once. Fills them with random data, once. Starts a stopwatch. Adds a and b, item-by-item. This is done 1000 times. Stops the stopwatch. Reports how long it took. This is done for int[] a, b and for UInt16 a,b. And every time I run the code, the tests for the UInt16 arrays take 30%-50% less time than the int arrays. Can you explain this to me? Here's the code, if you want to try if for yourself: public static UInt16[] GenerateRandomDataUInt16(int length) { UInt16[] noise = new UInt16[length]; Random random = new Random((int)DateTime.Now.Ticks); for (int i = 0; i < length; ++i) { noise[i] = (UInt16)random.Next(); } return noise; } public static int[] GenerateRandomDataInt(int length) { int[] noise = new int[length]; Random random = new Random((int)DateTime.Now.Ticks); for (int i = 0; i < length; ++i) { noise[i] = (int)random.Next(); } return noise; } public static int[] AddInt(int[] a, int[] b) { int len = a.Length; int[] result = new int[len]; for (int i = 0; i < len; ++i) { result[i] = (int)(a[i] + b[i]); } return result; } public static UInt16[] AddUInt16(UInt16[] a, UInt16[] b) { int len = a.Length; UInt16[] result = new UInt16[len]; for (int i = 0; i < len; ++i) { result[i] = (ushort)(a[i] + b[i]); } return result; } public static void Main() { int count = 1000; int len = 128 * 6000; int[] aInt = GenerateRandomDataInt(len); int[] bInt = GenerateRandomDataInt(len); Stopwatch s = new Stopwatch(); s.Start(); for (int i=0; i<count; ++i) { int[] resultInt = AddInt(aInt, bInt); } s.Stop(); Console.WriteLine("Int for " + count + " took " + s.ElapsedTicks + " tick (" + s.ElapsedMilliseconds + " msec)"); UInt16[] aUInt16 = GenerateRandomDataUInt16(len); UInt16[] bUInt16 = GenerateRandomDataUInt16(len); s = new Stopwatch(); s.Start(); for (int i=0; i<count; ++i) { UInt16[] resultUInt16 = AddUInt16(aUInt16, bUInt16); } s.Stop(); Console.WriteLine("UInt16 for " + count + " took " + s.ElapsedTicks + " tick (" + s.ElapsedMilliseconds + " msec)"); }

  • StaleDataException: access closed cursor

    - by Aurora
    In my application, after enough clicking around, I get this error: 06-08 19:47:59.967: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2429): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to pause activity {com.MYAPP.app/com.MYAPP.app.MainActivity}: android.database.StaleDataException: Access closed cursor What I have is a Tab Activity (my MainActivity), which has a ListActivity as the contents for each tab. Inside the onCreate for each ListActivity I get a cursor that represents the data to be displayed in that list. The onListItemClick for each list also creates another activity, so clicking on an item in the list will show more information about that item in a new screen. It's inconsistent, but after enough clicking into these new activities, or going back to the ListView from a new activity, the program crashes. In searching around for a solution to my problem, I did stumble upon registerDataSetObserver, but it doesn't seem to be the whole answer. I am also having trouble finding documentation on it, so I'm not sure I fully understand it. I have a custom ListAdapter that both my ListViews use and have called registerDataSetObservers on the cursors there. I have attached the relevant code from one of my ListActivities and from my custom ListAdapter class. The ListActivity. I have two of these, almost identical, except they both have different cursors created from different database queries: import com.MYAPP.app.listmanager.DeviceListAdapter; public class AllSensorsActivity extends ListActivity{ private DeviceListAdapter AllList; private DbManager db; protected Cursor AllCur; protected Cursor AllSensors; private static final String TAG = "AllSensorsActivity"; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); Log.e(TAG, "Calling All onCreate"); db = new DbManager(this); db.open(); AllCur = db.fetchAllDevices(); startManagingCursor(AllCur); AllSensors = db.fetchAllSensors(); startManagingCursor(AllSensors); AllList = new DeviceListAdapter(this, AllCur, AllSensors); setListAdapter(AllList); } @Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id){ String device_name = (String) ((DeviceListAdapter)getListAdapter()).getItem(position); String sensor_string = ((DeviceListAdapter)getListAdapter()).getSensors(id); Intent i = new Intent(this, SensorActivity.class); Bundle bundle = new Bundle(); bundle.putString("NAME", device_name); i.putExtras(bundle); bundle.putString("SENSORS", sensor_string); i.putExtras(bundle); this.startActivity(i); } The custom ListAdapter: public class DeviceListAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private static final String TAG = "DeviceListAdapter"; private Context mContext; private Cursor mSensors; private Cursor mDevices; protected MyDataSetObserver sensors_observer; protected MyDataSetObserver devices_observer; public DeviceListAdapter(Context context, Cursor devices, Cursor sensors){ mContext = context; mDevices = devices; mSensors = sensors; sensors_observer = new MyDataSetObserver(); mSensors.registerDataSetObserver(sensors_observer); devices_observer = new MyDataSetObserver(); mDevices.registerDataSetObserver(devices_observer); } // ... more functions and stuff that are not relevant go down here... } private class MyDataSetObserver extends DataSetObserver { public void onChanged(){ Log.e(TAG, "CHANGED CURSOR!"); } public void onInvalidated(){ Log.e(TAG, "INVALIDATED CURSOR!"); } } Should I just have MyDataSetObserver catch the exception and move on? I'd like a more robust solution than that if possible. Or is there some other way I could rearrange my program so that the staleDataException doesn't occur (as often)? I believe that it is happening because I am launching the new activity in my onListItemClick.

  • Tiered Design With Analytical Widgets - Is This Code Smell?

    - by Repo Man
    The idea I'm playing with right now is having a multi-leveled "tier" system of analytical objects which perform a certain computation on a common object and then create a new set of analytical objects depending on their outcome. The newly created analytical objects will then get their own turn to run and optionally create more analytical objects, and so on and so on. The point being that the child analytical objects will always execute after the objects that created them, which is relatively important. The whole apparatus will be called by a single thread so I'm not concerned with thread safety at the moment. As long as a certain base condition is met, I don't see this being an unstable design but I'm still a little bit queasy about it. Is this some serious code smell or should I go ahead and implement it this way? Is there a better way? Here is a sample implementation: namespace WidgetTier { public class Widget { private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } } private TierManager _tm; private static readonly Random random = new Random(); static Widget() { } public Widget(string name, TierManager tm) { _name = name; _tm = tm; } public void DoMyThing() { if (random.Next(1000) > 1) { _tm.Add(); } } } //NOT thread-safe! public class TierManager { private Dictionary<int, List<Widget>> _tiers; private int _tierCount = 0; private int _currentTier = -1; private int _childCount = 0; public TierManager() { _tiers = new Dictionary<int, List<Widget>>(); } public void Add() { if (_currentTier + 1 >= _tierCount) { _tierCount++; _tiers.Add(_currentTier + 1, new List<Widget>()); } _tiers[_currentTier + 1].Add(new Widget(string.Format("({0})", _childCount), this)); _childCount++; } //Dangerous? public void Sweep() { _currentTier = 0; while (_currentTier < _tierCount) //_tierCount will start at 1 but keep increasing because child objects will keep adding more tiers. { foreach (Widget w in _tiers[_currentTier]) { w.DoMyThing(); } _currentTier++; } } public void PrintAll() { for (int t = 0; t < _tierCount; t++) { Console.Write("Tier #{0}: ", t); foreach (Widget w in _tiers[t]) { Console.Write(w.Name + " "); } Console.WriteLine(); } } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { TierManager tm = new TierManager(); for (int c = 0; c < 10; c++) { tm.Add(); //create base widgets; } tm.Sweep(); tm.PrintAll(); Console.ReadLine(); } } }

  • Problem with socket communication between C# and Flex

    - by Chris Lee
    Hi all, I am implementing a simulated b/s stock data system. I am using flex and c# for client and server sides. I found flash has a security policy and I handled the policy-file-request in my server code. But seems it doesn't work, because the code jumped out at "socket.Receive(b)" after connection. I've tried sending message on client in the connection handler, in that case the server can receive correct message. But the auto-generated "policy-file-request" can never be received, and the client can get no data sending from server. Here I put my code snippet. my ActionScript code: public class StockClient extends Sprite { private var hostName:String = "192.168.84.103"; private var port:uint = 55555; private var socket:XMLSocket; public function StockClient() { socket = new XMLSocket(); configureListeners(socket); socket.connect(hostName, port); } public function send(data:Object) : void{ socket.send(data); } private function configureListeners(dispatcher:IEventDispatcher):void { dispatcher.addEventListener(Event.CLOSE, closeHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(Event.CONNECT, connectHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, ioErrorHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, securityErrorHandler); dispatcher.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA, dataHandler); } private function closeHandler(event:Event):void { trace("closeHandler: " + event); } private function connectHandler(event:Event):void { trace("connectHandler: " + event); //following testing message can be received, but client can't invoke data handler //send("<policy-file-request/>"); } private function dataHandler(event:ProgressEvent):void { //never fired trace("dataHandler: " + event); } private function ioErrorHandler(event:IOErrorEvent):void { trace("ioErrorHandler: " + event); } private function progressHandler(event:ProgressEvent):void { trace("progressHandler loaded:" + event.bytesLoaded + " total: " + event.bytesTotal); } private function securityErrorHandler(event:SecurityErrorEvent):void { trace("securityErrorHandler: " + event); } } my C# code: const int PORT_NUMBER = 55555; const String BEGIN_REQUEST = "begin"; const String END_REQUEST = "end"; const String POLICY_REQUEST = "<policy-file-request/>\u0000"; const String POLICY_FILE = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>\n" + "<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM \"http://www.adobe.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd\">\n" + "<cross-domain-policy> \n" + " <allow-access-from domain=\"*\" to-ports=\"55555\"/> \n" + "</cross-domain-policy>\u0000"; ................ private void startListening() { provider = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); provider.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse("192.168.84.103"), PORT_NUMBER)); provider.Listen(10); isListened = true; while (isListened) { Socket socket = provider.Accept(); Console.WriteLine("connect!"); byte[] b = new byte[1024]; int receiveLength = 0; try { // code jump out at this statement receiveLength = socket.Receive(b); } catch (Exception e) { Debug.WriteLine(e.ToString()); } String request = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(b, 0, receiveLength); Console.WriteLine("request:"+request); if (request == POLICY_REQUEST) { socket.Send(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(POLICY_FILE)); Console.WriteLine("response:" + POLICY_FILE); } else if (request == END_REQUEST) { Dispose(socket); } else { StartSocket(socket); break; } } } Sorry for the long code, please someone help with it, thanks a million

  • RelativeLayout, ScrollView and navigation bar at bottom

    - by MicNeo
    What I want to do is, make layout like this: Title Date Long text with scrolling Navigation bar stick to the bottom Well I have done everything, however there is a little problem with scrolling. I want only to scroll text. Title and date should be stick to the top, and nav bar to the bottom of activity. And yes, it works, but my nav bar overlaps text :/ I tried everything, there is one solution I found, set fixed height for Scrollview, but this will not work on every devices well, isn't it? I probably could do some calculation in code, and on it change height, but I would like to stay in XML. Any one have any suggestions? Here is my XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:orientation="vertical" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="0.6" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/feed_title" style="@style/h1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/feed_info" style="@style/h2" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </LinearLayout> <ImageView android:id="@+id/feed_fav_ico" android:layout_width="50dp" android:layout_height="50dp" android:layout_alignParentRight="true" android:layout_gravity="center_vertical|right" android:background="@drawable/ic_fav_off" /> </LinearLayout> <ScrollView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:fillViewport="true" android:scrollY="20dp" > <TextView android:id="@+id/feed_text" style="@style/text" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Loren ipsum full tekst" /> </ScrollView> </LinearLayout> <!-- Buttons --> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:background="#FFFFFF" android:orientation="vertical" android:paddingBottom="5dp" > <Button android:id="@+id/go_to_article" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="5dp" android:layout_marginTop="15dp" android:text="@string/feed_show_full" /> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <Button android:id="@+id/next_feed" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="40dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:background="@drawable/button_arrow_up" /> <Button android:id="@+id/share_feed" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="100dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:text="@string/feed_share" /> <Button android:id="@+id/delete_feed" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="100dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:text="@string/feed_delete" /> <Button android:id="@+id/prev_feed" android:layout_width="40dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:background="@drawable/button_arrow_down" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> <!-- ~Buttons --> </RelativeLayout>

  • SQL server deadlock between INSERT and SELECT statement

    - by dtroy
    Hi! I've got a problem with multiple deadlocks on SQL server 2005. This one is between an INSERT and a SELECT statement. There are two tables. Table 1 and Table2. Table2 has Table1's PK (table1_id) as foreign key. Index on table1_id is clustered. The INSERT inserts a single row into table2 at a time. The SELCET joins the 2 tables. (it's a long query which might take up to 12 secs to run) According to my understanding (and experiments) the INSERT should acquire an IS lock on table1 to check referential integrity (which should not cause a deadlock). But, in this case it acquired an IX page lock The deadlock report: <deadlock-list> <deadlock victim="process968898"> <process-list> <process id="process8db1f8" taskpriority="0" logused="2424" waitresource="OBJECT: 5:789577851:0 " waittime="12390" ownerId="61831512" transactionname="user_transaction" lasttranstarted="2010-04-16T07:10:13.347" XDES="0x222a8250" lockMode="IX" schedulerid="1" kpid="3764" status="suspended" spid="52" sbid="0" ecid="0" priority="0" transcount="2" lastbatchstarted="2010-04-16T07:10:13.350" lastbatchcompleted="2010-04-16T07:10:13.347" clientapp=".Net SqlClient Data Provider" hostname="VIDEV01-B-ME" hostpid="3040" loginname="DatabaseName" isolationlevel="read uncommitted (1)" xactid="61831512" currentdb="5" lockTimeout="4294967295" clientoption1="671088672" clientoption2="128056"> <executionStack> <frame procname="DatabaseName.dbo.prcTable2_Insert" line="18" stmtstart="576" stmtend="1148" sqlhandle="0x0300050079e62d06e9307f000b9d00000100000000000000"> INSERT INTO dbo.Table2 ( f1, table1_id, f2 ) VALUES ( @p1, @p_DocumentVersionID, @p1 ) </frame> </executionStack> <inputbuf> Proc [Database Id = 5 Object Id = 103671417] </inputbuf> </process> <process id="process968898" taskpriority="0" logused="0" waitresource="PAGE: 5:1:46510" waittime="7625" ownerId="61831406" transactionname="INSERT" lasttranstarted="2010-04-16T07:10:12.717" XDES="0x418ec00" lockMode="S" schedulerid="2" kpid="1724" status="suspended" spid="53" sbid="0" ecid="0" priority="0" transcount="2" lastbatchstarted="2010-04-16T07:10:12.713" lastbatchcompleted="2010-04-16T07:10:12.713" clientapp=".Net SqlClient Data Provider" hostname="VIDEV01-B-ME" hostpid="3040" loginname="DatabaseName" isolationlevel="read committed (2)" xactid="61831406" currentdb="5" lockTimeout="4294967295" clientoption1="671088672" clientoption2="128056"> <executionStack> <frame procname="DatabaseName.dbo.prcGetList" line="64" stmtstart="3548" stmtend="11570" sqlhandle="0x03000500dbcec17e8d267f000b9d00000100000000000000"> <!-- XXXXXXXXXXXXXX...SELECT STATEMENT WITH Multiple joins including both Table2 table 1 and ....   • Should we develop a custom membership provider in this case?

    - by Allen
    I'll be adding a bounty to this, probably 200, more if you guys think its appropriate. I wont accept an answer until I can add a bounty so feel free to go ahead and answer now Summary Long story short, we've been tasked with gutting the authentication and authorization parts of a fairly old and bloated asp.net application that previously had all of these components written from scratch. Since our application isn't a typical one, and none of us have experience in asp.net's built in membership provider stuff, we're not sure if we should roll our own authentication and authorization again or if we should try to work within the asp.net membership provider mindset and develop our own membership provider. Our Application We have a fairly old asp.net application that gets installed at customer locations to service clients on a LAN. Admins create users (users do not sign up) and depending on the install, we may have the software integrated with LDAP. Currently, the LDAP integration bulk-imports the users to our database and when they login, it authenticates against LDAP so we dont have to manage their passwords. Nothing amazing there. Admins can assign users to 1 group and they can change the authorization of that group to manage access to various parts of the software. Groups are maintained by Admins (web based UI) and as said earlier, granted / denied permissions to certain functionality within the application. All this was completely written from the ground up without using any of the built in .net authorization or authentication. We literally have IsLoggedIn() methods that check for login and redirect to our login page if they aren't. Our Rewrite We've been tasked to integrate more tightly with LDAP, they want us to tie groups in our application to groups (or whatever types of containers that LDAP uses) in LDAP so that when a customer opt's to use our LDAP integration, they dont have to manage their users in LDAP AND in our application. The new way, they will simply create users in LDAP, add them to Groups in LDAP and our application will see that they belong to the appropriate LDAP group and authenticate and authorize them. In addition, we've been granted the go ahead to completely rip out the User authentication and authorization code and completely re-do it. Our Problem The problem is that none of us have any experience with asp.net membership provider functionality. The little bit of exposure I have to it makes me worry that it was not intended to be used for an application such as ours. Though, developing our own ASP.NET Membership Provider and Role Manager sounds like it would be a great experience and most likely the appropriate thing to do. Basically, I'm looking for advice, should we be using the ASP.NET Membership provider & Role Management API or should we continue to roll our own? I know this decision will be influenced by our requirements so I'm going over them below Our Requirements Just a quick n dirty list Maintain the ability to have a db of users and authenticate them and give admins (only, not users) the ability to CRUD users Allow the site to integrate with LDAP, when this is chosen, they don't want any users stored in the DB, only the relationship between Groups as they exist in our app / db and the Groups/Containers as they exist in LDAP. .net 3.5 is being used (mix of asp.net webforms and asp.net mvc) Has to work in ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC (shouldn't be a problem I'm guessing) This can't be user centric, administrators need to be the only ones that CRUD (or import via ldap) users and groups We have to be able to Auth via LDAP when its configured to do so I always try to monitor my questions closely so feel free to ask for more info. Also, as a general summary of what I'm looking for in an answer is just. "You should/shouldn't use xyz, here's why". Links regarding asp.net membership provider and role management stuff are very welcome, most of the stuff I'm finding is 5+ years old. Edit: Added some stuff to "Our Rewrite"

  • python: what are efficient techniques to deal with deeply nested data in a flexible manner?

    - by AlexandreS
    My question is not about a specific code snippet but more general, so please bear with me: How should I organize the data I'm analyzing, and which tools should I use to manage it? I'm using python and numpy to analyse data. Because the python documentation indicates that dictionaries are very optimized in python, and also due to the fact that the data itself is very structured, I stored it in a deeply nested dictionary. Here is a skeleton of the dictionary: the position in the hierarchy defines the nature of the element, and each new line defines the contents of a key in the precedent level: [AS091209M02] [AS091209M01] [AS090901M06] ... [100113] [100211] [100128] [100121] [R16] [R17] [R03] [R15] [R05] [R04] [R07] ... [1263399103] ... [ImageSize] [FilePath] [Trials] [Depth] [Frames] [Responses] ... [N01] [N04] ... [Sequential] [Randomized] [Ch1] [Ch2] Edit: To explain a bit better my data set: [individual] ex: [AS091209M02] [imaging session (date string)] ex: [100113] [Region imaged] ex: [R16] [timestamp of file] ex [1263399103] [properties of file] ex: [Responses] [regions of interest in image ] ex [N01] [format of data] ex [Sequential] [channel of acquisition: this key indexes an array of values] ex [Ch1] The type of operations I perform is for instance to compute properties of the arrays (listed under Ch1, Ch2), pick up arrays to make a new collection, for instance analyze responses of N01 from region 16 (R16) of a given individual at different time points, etc. This structure works well for me and is very fast, as promised. I can analyze the full data set pretty quickly (and the dictionary is far too small to fill up my computer's ram : half a gig). My problem comes from the cumbersome manner in which I need to program the operations of the dictionary. I often have stretches of code that go like this: for mk in dic.keys(): for rgk in dic[mk].keys(): for nk in dic[mk][rgk].keys(): for ik in dic[mk][rgk][nk].keys(): for ek in dic[mk][rgk][nk][ik].keys(): #do something which is ugly, cumbersome, non reusable, and brittle (need to recode it for any variant of the dictionary). I tried using recursive functions, but apart from the simplest applications, I ran into some very nasty bugs and bizarre behaviors that caused a big waste of time (it does not help that I don't manage to debug with pdb in ipython when I'm dealing with deeply nested recursive functions). In the end the only recursive function I use regularly is the following: def dicExplorer(dic, depth = -1, stp = 0): '''prints the hierarchy of a dictionary. if depth not specified, will explore all the dictionary ''' if depth - stp == 0: return try : list_keys = dic.keys() except AttributeError: return stp += 1 for key in list_keys: else: print '+%s> [\'%s\']' %(stp * '---', key) dicExplorer(dic[key], depth, stp) I know I'm doing this wrong, because my code is long, noodly and non-reusable. I need to either use better techniques to flexibly manipulate the dictionaries, or to put the data in some database format (sqlite?). My problem is that since I'm (badly) self-taught in regards to programming, I lack practical experience and background knowledge to appreciate the options available. I'm ready to learn new tools (SQL, object oriented programming), whatever it takes to get the job done, but I am reluctant to invest my time and efforts into something that will be a dead end for my needs. So what are your suggestions to tackle this issue, and be able to code my tools in a more brief, flexible and re-usable manner?

  • Custom links in RichTextBox

    - by IVlad
    Suppose I want every word starting with a # to generate an event on double click. For this I have implemented the following test code: private bool IsChannel(Point position, out int start, out int end) { if (richTextBox1.Text.Length == 0) { start = end = -1; return false; } int index = richTextBox1.GetCharIndexFromPosition(position); int stop = index; while (index >= 0 && richTextBox1.Text[index] != '#') { if (richTextBox1.Text[index] == ' ') { break; } --index; } if (index < 0 || richTextBox1.Text[index] != '#') { start = end = -1; return false; } while (stop < richTextBox1.Text.Length && richTextBox1.Text[stop] != ' ') { ++stop; } --stop; start = index; end = stop; return true; } private void richTextBox1_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { textBox1.Text = richTextBox1.GetCharIndexFromPosition(new Point(e.X, e.Y)).ToString(); int d1, d2; if (IsChannel(new Point(e.X, e.Y), out d1, out d2) == true) { if (richTextBox1.Cursor != Cursors.Hand) { richTextBox1.Cursor = Cursors.Hand; } } else { richTextBox1.Cursor = Cursors.Arrow; } } This handles detecting words that start with # and making the mouse cursor a hand when it hovers over them. However, I have the following two problems: If I try to implement a double click event for richTextBox1, I can detect when a word is clicked, however that word is highlighted (selected), which I'd like to avoid. I can deselect it programmatically by selecting the end of the text, but that causes a flicker, which I would like to avoid. What ways are there to do this? The GetCharIndexFromPosition method returns the index of the character that is closest to the cursor. This means that if the only thing my RichTextBox contains is a word starting with a # then the cursor will be a hand no matter where on the rich text control it is. How can I make it so that it is only a hand when it hovers over an actual word or character that is part of a word I'm interested in? The implemented URL detection also partially suffers from this problem. If I enable detection of URLs and only write www.test.com in the rich text editor, the cursor will be a hand as long as it is on or below the link. It will not be a hand if it's to the right of the link however. I'm fine even with this functionality if making the cursor a hand if and only if it's on the text proves to be too difficult. I'm guessing I'll have to resort to some sort of Windows API calls, but I don't really know where to start. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I would like to implement this myself. Update: The flickering problem would be solved if I could make it so that no text is selectable through double clicking, only through dragging the mouse cursor. Is this easier to achieve? Because I don't really care if one can select text or not by double clicking in this case.

  • Win32: IProgressDialog will not disappear until you mouse over it.

    - by Ian Boyd
    i'm using the Win32 progress dialog. The damnest thing is that when i call: progressDialog.StopProgressDialog(); it doesn't disappear. It stays on screen until the user moves her mouse over it - then it suddenly disappers. The call to StopProgressDialog returns right away (i.e. it's not a synchronous call). i can prove this by doing things after the call has returned: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //Force red background to prove we've started this.BackColor = Color.Red; this.Refresh(); //Start a progress dialog IProgressDialog pd = (IProgressDialog)new ProgressDialog(); pd.StartProgressDialog(this.Handle, null, PROGDLG.Normal, IntPtr.Zero); //The long running operation System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(10000); //Stop the progress dialog pd.SetLine(1, "Stopping Progress Dialog", false, IntPtr.Zero); pd.StopProgressDialog(); pd = null; //Return form to normal color to prove we've stopped. this.BackColor = SystemColors.Control; this.Refresh(); } The form: starts gray turns red to show we've stared turns back to gray color to show we've called stop So the call to StopProgressDialog has returned, except the progress dialog is still sitting there, mocking me, showing the message: Stopping Progress Dialog Doesn't Appear for 10 seconds Additionally, the progress dialog does not appear on screen until the System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(10000); ten second sleep is over. Not limited to .NET WinForms The same code also fails in Delphi, which is also an object wrapper around Window's windows: procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var pd: IProgressDialog; begin Self.Color := clRed; Self.Repaint; pd := CoProgressDialog.Create; pd.StartProgressDialog(Self.Handle, nil, PROGDLG_NORMAL, nil); Sleep(10000); pd.SetLine(1, StringToOleStr('Stopping Progress Dialog'), False, nil); pd.StopProgressDialog; pd := nil; Self.Color := clBtnFace; Self.Repaint; end; PreserveSig An exception would be thrown if StopProgressDialog was failing. Most of the methods in IProgressDialog, when translated into C# (or into Delphi), use the compiler's automatic mechanism of converting failed COM HRESULTS into a native language exception. In other words the following two signatures will throw an exception if the COM call returned an error HRESULT (i.e. a value less than zero): //C# void StopProgressDialog(); //Delphi procedure StopProgressDialog; safecall; Whereas the following lets you see the HRESULT's and react yourself: //C# [PreserveSig] int StopProgressDialog(); //Delphi function StopProgressDialog: HRESULT; stdcall; HRESULT is a 32-bit value. If the high-bit is set (or the value is negative) it is an error. i am using the former syntax. So if StopProgressDialog is returning an error it will be automatically converted to a language exception. Note: Just for SaG i used the [PreserveSig] syntax, the returned HRESULT is zero; MsgWait? The symptom is similar to what Raymond Chen described once, which has to do with the incorrect use of PeekMessage followed by MsgWaitForMultipleObjects: "Sometimes my program gets stuck and reports one fewer record than it should. I have to jiggle the mouse to get the value to update. After a while longer, it falls two behind, then three..." But that would mean that the failure is in IProgressDialog, since it fails equally well on CLR .NET WinForms and native Win32 code.

  • File Fix-it codegolf (GCJ 2010 1B-A)

    - by KirarinSnow
    Last year (2009), the Google Code Jam featured an interesting problem as the first problem in Round 1B: Decision Tree As the problem seemed tailored for Lisp-like languages, we spontaneously had an exciting codegolf here on SO, in which a few languages managed to solve the problem in fewer characters than any Lisp variety, using quite a number of different techniques. This year's Round 1B Problem A (File Fix-it) also seems tailored for a particular family of languages, Unix shell scripts. So continuing the "1B-A tradition" would be appropriate. :p But which language will end up with the shortest code? Let us codegolf and see! Problem description (adapted from official page): You are given T test cases. Each test case contains N lines that list the full path of all directories currently existing on your computer. For example: /home/awesome /home/awesome/wheeeeeee /home/awesome/wheeeeeee/codegolfrocks /home/thecakeisalie Next, you are given M lines that list the full path of directories you would like to create. They are in the same format as the previous examples. You can create a directory using the mkdir command, but you can only do so if the parent directory already exists. For example, to create the directories /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah and /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah, you would need to use mkdir four times: mkdir /pyonpyon mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah For each test case, return the number of times you have to call mkdir to create all the directories you would like to create. Input Input consists of a text file whose first line contains the integer T, the number of test cases. The rest of the file contains the test cases. Each test case begins with a line containing the integers N and M, separated by a space. The next N lines contain the path of each directory currently existing on your computer (not including the root directory /). This is a concatenation of one or more non-empty lowercase alphanumeric strings, each preceded by a single /. The following M lines contain the path of each directory you would like to create. Output For each case, print one line containing Case #X: Y, where X is the case number and Y is the solution. Limits 1 = T = 100. 0 = N = 100. 1 = M = 100. Each path contains at most 100 characters. Every path appears only once in the list of directories already on your computer, or in the list of desired directories. However, a path may appear on both lists, as in example case #3 below. If a directory is in the list of directories already on your computer, its parent directory will also be listed, with the exception of the root directory /. The input file is at most 100,000 bytes long. Example Larger sample test cases may be downloaded here. Input: 3 0 2 /home/sparkle/pyon /home/sparkle/cakes 1 3 /z /z/y /z/x /y/y 2 1 /moo /moo/wheeeee /moo Output: Case #1: 4 Case #2: 4 Case #3: 0 Code Golf Please post your shortest code in any language that solves this problem. Input and output may be handled via stdin and stdout or by other files of your choice. Please include a disclaimer if your code has the potential to modify or delete existing files when executed. Winner will be the shortest solution (by byte count) in a language with an implementation existing prior to the start of Round 1B 2010.

  • In Ruby, how to I read memory values from an external process?

    - by grg-n-sox
    So all I simply want to do is make a Ruby program that reads some values from known memory address in another process's virtual memory. Through my research and basic knowledge of hex editing a running process's x86 assembly in memory, I have found the base address and offsets for the values in memory I want. I do not want to change them; I just want to read them. I asked a developer of a memory editor how to approach this abstract of language and assuming a Windows platform. He told me the Win32API calls for OpenProcess, CreateProcess, ReadProcessMemory, and WriteProcessMemory were the way to go using either C or C++. I think that the way to go would be just using the Win32API class and mapping two instances of it; One for either OpenProcess or CreateProcess, depending on if the user already has th process running or not, and another instance will be mapped to ReadProcessMemory. I probably still need to find the function for getting the list of running processes so I know which running process is the one I want if it is running already. This would take some work to put all together, but I am figuring it wouldn't be too bad to code up. It is just a new area of programming for me since I have never worked this low level from a high level language (well, higher level than C anyways). I am just wondering of the ways to approach this. I could just use a bunch or Win32API calls, but that means having to deal with a bunch of string and array pack and unpacking that is system dependant I want to eventually make this work cross-platform since the process I am reading from is produced from an executable that has multiple platform builds, (I know the memory address changes from system to system. The idea is to have a flat file that contains all memory mappings so the Ruby program can just match the current platform environment to the matching memory mapping.) but from the looks of things I'll just have to make a class that wraps whatever is the current platform's system shared library memory related function calls. For all I know, there could already exist a Ruby gem that takes care of all of this for me that I am just not finding. I could also possibly try editing the executables for each build to make it so whenever the memory values I want to read from are written to by the process, it also writes a copy of the new value to a space in shared memory that I somehow have Ruby make an instance of a class that is a pointer under the hood to that shared memory address and somehow signal to the Ruby program that the value was updated and should be reloaded. Basically a interrupt based system would be nice, but since the purpose of reading these values is just to send to a scoreboard broadcasted from a central server, I could just stick to a polling based system that sends updates at fixed time intervals. I also could just abandon Ruby altogether and go for C or C++ but I do not know those nearly as well. I actually know more x86 than C++ and I only know C as far as system independent ANSI C and have never dealt with shared system libraries before. So is there a gem or lesser known module available that has already done this? If not, then any additional information as to how to accomplish this would be nice. I guess, long story short, how do I do all this? Thanks in advance, Grg PS: Also a confirmation that those Win32API calls should be aimed at the kernel32.dll library would be nice.

While i am dumped a file i can see the difference between java decryption and 'C' file decryption. od -c -b filename(file decrypted in C) 0034620 005 006 \0 \0 \0 \0 022 \0 022 \0 320 004 \0 \0 276 4 005 006 000 000 000 000 022 000 022 000 320 004 000 000 276 064 0034640 \0 \0 \0 \0 \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f \f 000 000 000 000 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 014 0034660 od -c -b filename(file decrypted in Java) 0034620 005 006 \0 \0 \0 \0 022 \0 022 \0 320 004 \0 \0 276 4 005 006 000 000 000 000 022 000 022 000 320 004 000 000 276 064 0034640 \0 \0 \0 \0 000 000 000 000 0034644 (the above is the difference between the dumped files) The following java code i used to encrypt the file. public class AES { /** * Turns array of bytes into string * * @param buf Array of bytes to convert to hex string * @return Generated hex string */ public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { File file = new File("testxls.xls"); byte[] lContents = new byte[(int) file.length()]; try { FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(file); fileInputStream.read(lContents); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e1) { e1.printStackTrace(); } try { KeyGenerator kgen = KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES"); kgen.init(256); // 192 and 256 bits may not be available // Generate the secret key specs.   • JAVA BubbleSort Output Plotting

    - by John Smith
    I'm not sure how to plot the output I get with my run time results for BubbleSort. Here's the thing: I've written a working BubbleSort algorithm that does exactly as it should. But I wish to plot the output, to show the following: Best Case, Worst Case, Average Case ... How would I go about plotting it on a graph? Here is the code: public class BubbleSort { static double bestTime = 10000000, worstTime = 0; public static void main(String[] args) { int BubArray[] = new int[]{13981, 6793, 2662, 10986, 733, ... #1000 integers}; System.out.println("Unsorted List Before Bubble Sort"); for(int a = 0; a < BubArray.length; a++){ System.out.print(BubArray[a] + " "); } System.out.println("\n Bubble Sort Execution ..."); for(int i=0; i<10000;i++) { bubbleSortTimeTaken(BubArray, i); } int itrs = bubbleSort(BubArray); System.out.println(""); System.out.println("Array After Bubble Sort"); System.out.println("Moves Taken for Sort : " + itrs + " Moves."); System.out.println("BestTime: " + bestTime + " WorstTime: " + worstTime); System.out.print("Sorted Array: \n"); for(int a = 0; a < BubArray.length; a++){ System.out.print(BubArray[a] + " "); } } private static int bubbleSort(int[] BubArray) { int z = BubArray.length; int temp = 0; int itrs = 0; for(int a = 0; a < z; a++){ for(int x=1; x < (z-a); x++){ if(BubArray[x-1] > BubArray[x]){ temp = BubArray[x-1]; BubArray[x-1] = BubArray[x]; BubArray[x] = temp; } itrs++; } } return itrs; } public static void bubbleSortTimeTaken(int[] BubArray, int n) { long startTime = System.nanoTime(); bubbleSort(BubArray); double timeTaken = (System.nanoTime() - startTime)/1000000d; if (timeTaken > 0) { worstTime = timeTaken; } else if (timeTaken < bestTime) { bestTime = timeTaken; } System.out.println(n + "," + timeTaken); } } The output are as the following ( execution number, time (nano/10^6): Unsorted List Before Bubble Sort 13981 6793 2662 .... #1000 integers Bubble Sort Execution ... 0, 18.319891 1, 4.728978 2, 3.670697 3, 3.648922 4, 4.161576 5, 3.824369 .... 9995, 4.331423 9996, 3.692473 9997, 3.709893 9998, 6.16055 9999, 4.32209 Array After Bubble Sort Moves Taken for Sort : 541320 Moves. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Error in python - don't understand

    - by Jasper
    Hi, I'm creating a game, and am quite new to Python generally. I created a function 'descriptionGenerator()' which generates a description for characters and objects either randomly or using variables passed to it. It seemed to be working, but every now and then it wouldn't work correctly. So i placed it in a loop, and it never seems to be able to complete the loop without one of the iterations having this problem. The code is as follows: #+------------------------------------------+ #| Name: bitsandpieces.py | #| A module for the 'Europa I' game | #| created for the Game Making Competition | #| | #| Date Created/Modified: | #| 3/4/10 | 3/4/10 | #+------------------------------------------+ # Import the required modules # Import system modules: import time import random # Import 3rd party modules: # Import game modules: # Define the 'descriptionGenerator()' function def descriptionGenerator(descriptionVariables): descriptionVariableSize = len(descriptionVariables) if descriptionVariables[0] == 'char': # If there is only one variable ('char'), create a random description if descriptionVariableSize == 1: # Define choices for descriptionVariables to be generated from gender_choices = ['male', 'female'] hair_choices = ['black', 'red', 'blonde', 'grey', 'brown', 'blue'] hair_choices2 = ['long', 'short', 'cropped', 'curly'] size_choices = ['tubby', 'thin', 'fat', 'almost twig-like'] demeanour_choices = ['glowering', 'bright', 'smiling', 'sombre', 'intelligent'] impression_choices = ['likeable', 'unlikeable', 'dangerous', 'annoying', 'afraid'] # Define description variables gender = random.choice(gender_choices) height = str(float('0.' + str(random.randint(1, 9))) + float(random.randint(1, 2))) if float(height) > 1.8: height_string = 'tall' if float(height) > 2: height_string = 'very tall' elif float(height) < 1.8 and float(height) > 1.5: height_string = 'average' elif float(height) < 1.5: height_string = 'short' if float(height) < 1.3: height_string = 'very short' hair = random.choice(hair_choices2) + ' ' + random.choice(hair_choices) size = random.choice(size_choices) demeanour = random.choice(demeanour_choices) impression = random.choice(impression_choices) # Collect description variables in list 'randomDescriptionVariables' randomDescriptionVariables = ['char', gender, height, height_string, hair, size, demeanour, impression] # Generate description using the 'descriptionGenerator' function descriptionGenerator(randomDescriptionVariables) # Generate the description of a character using the variables passed to the function elif descriptionVariableSize == 8: if descriptionVariables[1] == 'male': if descriptionVariables[7] != 'afraid': print """A %s man, about %s m tall. • jquery small refactoring , json call

    - by Alexander Corotchi
    Hi everybody, I need you suggestion to make some refactoring in jquery code because now it looks terrible for me. I have 4 json calls but the difference it is just the URL call. • BroadcastReceiver not reading stored value from SharedPreferences

    - by bobby123
    In my app I have a broadcast receiver that turns on GPS upon receiving a set string of text. In the onLocationChanged method, I want to pass the GPS data and a value from my shared preferences to a thread in a string. I have the thread writing to log and can see all the GPS values in the string but the last value from my shared preferences is just showing up as 'prefPhoneNum' which I initialised the string to at the beginning of the receiver class. I have the same code to read the prefPhoneNum from shared preferences in the main class and it works there, can anyone see what I might be doing wrong? public class SmsReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver implements LocationListener { LocationManager lm; LocationListener loc; public SharedPreferences sharedpreferences; public static final String US = "usersettings"; public String prefPhoneNum = "prefPhoneNum"; @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { sharedpreferences = context.getSharedPreferences(US, Context.MODE_PRIVATE); prefPhoneNum = sharedpreferences.getString("prefPhoneNum" , ""); lm = (LocationManager)context.getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); loc = new SmsReceiver(); //---get the SMS message passed in--- Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras(); SmsMessage[] msgs = null; String str = ""; if (bundle != null) { //---retrieve the SMS message received--- Object[] pdus = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus"); msgs = new SmsMessage[pdus.length]; for (int i=0; i<msgs.length; i++) { msgs[i] = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[])pdus[i]); str += msgs[i].getMessageBody().toString() + "\n"; } Toast.makeText(context, str, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); //Display SMS if ((msgs[0].getMessageBody().toString().equals("Enable")) || (msgs[0].getMessageBody().toString().equals("enable"))) { enableGPS(); } else { /* Do Nothing*/ } } } public void enableGPS() { //new CountDownTimer(10000, 1000) { //10 seconds new CountDownTimer(300000, 1000) { //300 secs = 5 mins public void onTick(long millisUntilFinished) { lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, loc); } public void onFinish() { lm.removeUpdates(loc); } }.start(); } @Override public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { String s = ""; s += location.getLatitude() + "\n"; s += location.getLongitude() + "\n"; s += location.getAltitude() + "\n"; s += location.getAccuracy() + "\n" + prefPhoneNum; Thread cThread = new Thread(new SocketsClient(s)); cThread.start(); } @Override public void onProviderDisabled(String provider) { } @Override public void onProviderEnabled(String provider) { } @Override public void onStatusChanged(String provider, int status, Bundle extras) { } } Here is the logcat for when the application shuts - D/LocationManager( 3912): requestLocationUpdates: provider = gps, listener = accel.working.TrackGPS@4628bce0 D/GpsLocationProvider( 96): setMinTime 0 D/GpsLocationProvider( 96): startNavigating D/GpsLocationProvider( 96): TTFF: 3227 D/AndroidRuntime( 3912): Shutting down VM W/dalvikvm( 3912): threadid=1: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x400259f8) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): FATAL EXCEPTION: main E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): java.lang.NullPointerException E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.content.ContextWrapper.getSharedPreferences(ContextWrapper.java:146) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at accel.working.TrackGPS.onLocationChanged(TrackGPS.java:63) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.location.LocationManager$ListenerTransport._handleMessage(LocationManager.java:191) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.location.LocationManager$ListenerTransport.access$000(LocationManager.java:124) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.location.LocationManager$ListenerTransport$1.handleMessage(LocationManager.java:140) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:144) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4937) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:868) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:626) E/AndroidRuntime( 3912): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method)

  • Java Synchronized List Deadlock

    - by portoalet
    From Effective Java 2nd edition item 67 page 266-268: The background thread calls s.removeObserver, which attempts to lock observers, but it can’t acquire the lock, because the main thread already has the lock. All the while, the main thread is waiting for the background thread to finish removing the observer, which explains the deadlock. I am trying to find out which threads deadlock in the main method by using ThreadMXBean (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1102359/programmatic-deadlock-detection-in-java) , but why does it not return the deadlocked threads? I used a new Thread to run the ThreadMXBean detection. public class ObservableSet<E> extends ForwardingSet<E> { public ObservableSet(Set<E> set) { super(set); } private final List<SetObserver<E>> observers = new ArrayList<SetObserver<E>>(); public void addObserver(SetObserver<E> observer) { synchronized(observers) { observers.add(observer); } } public boolean removeObserver(SetObserver<E> observer) { synchronized(observers) { return observers.remove(observer); } } private void notifyElementAdded(E element) { synchronized(observers) { for (SetObserver<E> observer : observers) observer.added(this, element); } } @Override public boolean add(E element) { boolean added = super.add(element); if (added) notifyElementAdded(element); return added; } @Override public boolean addAll(Collection<? extends E> c) { boolean result = false; for (E element : c) result|=add(element); //callsnotifyElementAdded return result; } public static void main(String[] args) { ObservableSet<Integer> set = new ObservableSet<Integer>(new HashSet<Integer>()); final ThreadMXBean threadMxBean = ManagementFactory.getThreadMXBean(); Thread t = new Thread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { while( true ) { long [] threadIds = threadMxBean.findDeadlockedThreads(); if( threadIds != null) { ThreadInfo[] infos = threadMxBean.getThreadInfo(threadIds); for( ThreadInfo threadInfo : infos) { StackTraceElement[] stacks = threadInfo.getStackTrace(); for( StackTraceElement stack : stacks ) { System.out.println(stack.toString()); } } } try { System.out.println("Sleeping.."); TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS.sleep(1000); } catch (InterruptedException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } } } }); t.start(); set.addObserver(new SetObserver<Integer>() { public void added(ObservableSet<Integer> s, Integer e) { ExecutorService executor = Executors.newSingleThreadExecutor(); final SetObserver<Integer> observer = this; try { executor.submit(new Runnable() { public void run() { s.removeObserver(observer); } }).get(); } catch (ExecutionException ex) { throw new AssertionError(ex.getCause()); } catch (InterruptedException ex) { throw new AssertionError(ex.getCause()); } finally { executor.shutdown(); } } }); for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++) set.add(i); } } public interface SetObserver<E> { // Invoked when an element is added to the observable set void added(ObservableSet<E> set, E element); } // ForwardingSet<E> simply wraps another Set and forwards all operations to it.

  • How do I call up values in PHP for user input in forms (radio buttons and selects)

    - by Derek
    Ok so my admin sets to edit a book which was created. I know how to bring in the values that were initially entered via a simple text field like 'bookname'. On the edit book page the book name field stores the currently assigned 'bookname' in the field (which is what I want! :) ) However I have other field types like selects and radio button entries...I'm having trouble calling in the already set value when the book was created. For example, there is a 'booklevel' field, which I have set as radio button entries as; Hard, Normal, and Easy. When the user goes to edit the book, I'm not too sure on how to have the current value drawn up (its stored as text) and the radio button being checked. I.e. 'Normal' is checked if this is what was set when the book was created. So far I have this as the code for the adding book level: <label>Book Level:</label> <label for="booklevel1" class="radio">Hard <input type="radio" name="booklevel" id="booklevel1" value="<?php echo 'Hard'; if (isset($_POST['booklevel'])); ?>"></label> <label for="booklevel2" class="radio">Medium<input type="radio" name="booklevel" id="booklevel2" value="<?php echo 'Normal'; if (isset($_POST['booklevel'])); ?>"></label> <label for="booklevel" class="radio">Low<input type="radio" name="booklevel" id="booklevel3" value="<?php echo 'Easy'; if (isset($_POST['booklevel'])); ?>"></label> This all works fine by the way when the user adds the book... But does anyone know how in my update book form, I can draw the value of what level has been set, and have the box checked?? To draw up the values in the text fields, I'm simply using: <?php echo $row['bookname']?> I also noticed a small issue when I call up the values for my Select options. I have the drop down select field display the currently set user (to read the book!), however, the drop down menu again displays the user in the list available options to select - basically meaning 2 of the same names appear in the list! Is there a way to eliminate the value of the SELECTED option? So far my setup for this is like: <select name="user_id" id="user_id"> <option value="<?php echo $row['user_id']?>" SELECTED><?php echo $row['fullname']?></option> <?php while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { ?> <option value="<?php echo $row['user_id']?>"><?php echo $row['name']?></option> <?php } ?> </select> If anyone can help me I'll be very greatful. Sorry for the incredibly long question!! :)

  • Analyzing bitmaps produced by NSAffineTransform and CILineOverlay filters

    - by Adam
    I am trying to manipulate an image using a chain of CIFilters, and then examine each byte of the resulting image (bitmap). Long term, I do not need to display the resulting image (bitmap) -- I just need to "analyze" it in memory. But near-term I am displaying it on screen, to help with debugging. I have some "bitmap examination" code that works as expected when examining the NSImage (bitmap representation) I use as my input (loaded from a JPG file into an NSImage). And it SOMETIMES works as expected when I use it on the outputBitmap produced by the code below. More specifically, when I use an NSAffineTransform filter to create outputBitmap, then outputBitmap contains the data I would expect. But if I use a CILineOverlay filter to create the outputBitmap, none of the bytes in the bitmap have any data in them. I believe both of these filters are working as expected, because when I display their results on screen (via outputImageView), they look "correct." Yet when I examine the outputBitmaps, the one created from the CILineOverlay filter is "empty" while the one created from NSAffineTransfer contains data. Furthermore, if I chain the two filters together, the final resulting bitmap only seems to contain data if I run the AffineTransform last. Seems very strange, to me??? My understanding (from reading the CI programming guide) is that the CIImage should be considered an "image recipe" rather than an actual image, because the image isn't actually created until the image is "drawn." Given that, it would make sense that the CIimage bitmap doesn't have data -- but I don't understand why it has data after I run the NSAffineTransform but doesn't have data after running the CILineOverlay transform? Basically, I am trying to determine if creating the NSCIImageRep (ir in the code below) from the CIImage (myResult) is equivalent to "drawing" the CIImage -- in other words if that should force the bitmap to be populated? If someone knows the answer to this please let me know -- it will save me a few hours of trial and error experimenting! Finally, if the answer is "you must draw to a graphics context" ... then I have another question: would I need to do something along the lines of what is described in the Quartz 2D Programming Guide: Graphics Contexts, listing 2-7 and 2-8: drawing to a bitmap graphics context? That is the path down which I am about to head ... but it seems like a lot of code just to force the bitmap data to be dumped into an array where I can get at it. So if there is an easier or better way please let me know. I just want to take the data (that should be) in myResult and put it into a bitmap array where I can access it at the byte level. And since I already have code that works with an NSBitmapImageRep, unless doing it that way is a bad idea for some reason that is not readily apparent to me, then I would prefer to "convert" myResult into an NSBitmapImageRep. CIImage * myResult = [transform valueForKey:@"outputImage"]; NSImage *outputImage; NSCIImageRep *ir = [NSCIImageRep alloc]; ir = [NSCIImageRep imageRepWithCIImage:myResult]; outputImage = [[[NSImage alloc] initWithSize: NSMakeSize(inputImage.size.width, inputImage.size.height)] autorelease]; [outputImage addRepresentation:ir]; [outputImageView setImage: outputImage]; NSBitmapImageRep *outputBitmap = [[NSBitmapImageRep alloc] initWithCIImage: myResult]; Thanks, Adam
