  I want to run a command on each line of a file I have, however its a bit more complicated then I originally thought. The file contents look like this typically; however there are sometimes more connections: SESSIONNAME USERNAME ID STATE TYPE DEVICE services 0 Disc console 1 Conn t-rpal 48 Disc ica-tcp#0 bpofiretest 50 Active wdica rdp-tcp#2 a-nparsells 51 Active rdpwd ica-tcp 65536 Listen rdp-tcp 65537 Listen The command I want to run is reset session ica-tcp#0. I also want to run the same command on any additional connections that start with ica-tcp that the scripts finds in the file. How can I write a script like that in powershell? thanks!

• Use Windows Briefcase from the command line

  I have a thumb drive on which I take many of my files with me. I would like to synchronize it with my computer automatically when I connect it. I currently have a script run every time I connect it so that I can do the many things that need to be done when it connects (check for updates to the portable applications, etc.). I want my synchronization utility to: Detect conflicts work correctly when I move files or change the folder structure tell the difference between a file that was deleted on one side and a file that was added on the other work from the command line or at least have a command that will open up a window provide a confirmation screen before doing anything The Windows Briefcase does all of these except the command line. Is there any program that does all of these, or is there a way to synchronize the briefcase from the command line?

I want to work on this project , but i don't want to do so much request to work on this project. • Remove Audio stream from XVID files

  I have a bunch of Xvid files that each have an audio stream that I do not want. How can I strip the audio track I don't want using the Linux command line? I don't need the whole script (loop), just what command I would use to process each avi file individually (unless the cmd itself has batch modification built into it). I don't believe the file is in an mkv container, as mkvinfo doesn't find anything. • In Djano, why do I get a 500 server error when browsing, but "python mysite.fcgi" from SSH works fin

  If I browse to my site, I get a 500 "internal server error." However, if I SSH into my server and go to my site's folder and run "python mysite.fcgi" I see the HTML rendered fine. Obviously, something is wrong, but I'm not sure what. • Infrastructure to effectively set up experiements and learn from them

  Open-org.com is in the early stages of creating our first product, a place on the web, where one can ask lawyers questions at a fraction of their normal costs. An early stage front page can be found here. I got inspired by this video, which is recommended by Jeff Atwood, which talks about getting feedback faster, which is the reason for this question. The problem Needless to say, we want our conversion rates to be as high as possible. Therefore, we want to be able to rapidly set up a new experiment where we change something on the site (like moving an image slightly, rewriting a sentence etc.). We then want to present the modified page to a random subset of the users. After that we will compare the conversion rates of the experiment with another version. I could very well imagine that we want to run 10-100 experiments simultaneously and it would be nice to have features, where experiments that obviously have worse results will be ended before schedule. My question Does infrastructure to support the whole process exist? A short description of our infrastructure... We use EC2 and PHP and have a script to automatically start up new instances with all needed software. Still, starting up a new server for every experiment, seems like a bit of overkill, so I am wondering what other options exist. Btw. If you feel like working for Open-org.com, you can pick a task, and start working, or suggest a new task. All profits are given out to the contributors.

• postfix "mail-pipe" alias shellscript creates permissionless files/dirs

  I am using an alias to a shellscript in postfix... After the script that is called by the shellscript creates a directory it has no permissions at all.. #!/bin/sh umask 002 cat | php /var/www/html/catchmymail rcvemail result is like this: d--------- 2 apache apache 4096 Sep 17 17:25 50 it works for files tho: -rw-rw---- 1 apache apache 5836288 Sep 18 11:21 test Not even setting umask 002 in the shellscript before it hands the mail on changes a thing Setting umask(0002) inside catchmymail has no effect either. Has anyone seen this behaviour before or an idea to save my day?!? This is extremely confusing and actually insane behaviour from what i understand about umask and file permissions.

• Can I nohup/screen an already-started process?

  I'm doing some test-runs of long-running data migration scripts, over SSH. Let's say I start running a script around 4 PM; now, 6 PM rolls around, and I'm cursing myself for not doing this all in screen. Is there any way to "retroactively" nohup a process, or do I need to leave my computer online all night? If it's not possible to attach screen to/nohup a process I've already started, then why? Something to do with how parent/child proceses interact? (I won't accept a "no" answer that doesn't at least address the question of 'why' -- sorry ;) )

• NVIDIA proprietary driver logging me to console instead of GUI

  Firstly i want to apologise for any mistakes, English is not my native language. My problem is I can't get NVIDIA proprietary drivers to work. I tried to install it on Ubuntu 12.04.1 32 and 64 bits, Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2, Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 64 bits and openSUSE 12.2 64 bits and the error code and symptoms (logging to tty1 instead of GUI logging, low-res bootscreen) are the same for all of these distros. Right, I didn't tell what's the error code. It appears on sudo startx. NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error). I know that's the common problem, but I tried to blacklist or even remove the noveau drivers, install NVIDIA driver from repo/from official script/in "Additional drivers", editing xorg.conf and using Xorg -configurate and nvidia-xconfig, actualizing the kernel and entire distro and many, many things that I don't remember. But the problem is even better: entire Cinnamon (Mint) is freezing during the work. I found the error code, which appears during the freeze: Oct 1 20:57:17 WoozieLaptop kernel: [ 308.120176] [drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: PFIFO_CACHE_ERROR - Ch 4/1 Mthd 0z0060 Data 0xbcef0201 My Xorg.0.log is here. • OOM-Killer called every now and then..

  Hello there, i have a dedicated server where i've installed apache2, as well as Rails Passenger. Although i have 2GBs of RAM and most times about 1,5GB is free, there are some random times when i lose ssh and generic connectivity because oom-killer is killing processes. I suppose there is a memory leak but i cannot find out where it comes from. oom-killer kills apache2, mysql, passenger, whatever. Yesterday, i did a "cat syslog | grep -c oom-killer" and got 57 occurences ! It seems that something seriously destroys the memory. Once i reboot, everything comes back to normal. I suspect that it can be related to Passenger, but i'm still trying to figure it out. Can you think of anything else, or do you have anything to suggest that will make the leak identification procedure easier ? (i was even thinking of writing a bash script, to be run with cron for like every 5 minutes).

• Installing both lxml 3.1.2 and lxml2 on ubuntu 12.04

So here it is again, reformulated. On the lxml site they suggest that it is possible to have both lxml2 and the newest version of lxml on ubuntu: Using lxml with python-libxml2 If you want to use lxml together with the official libxml2 Python bindings (maybe because one of your dependencies uses it), you must build lxml statically. Otherwise, the two packages will interfere in places where the libxml2 library requires global configuration, which can have any kind of effect from disappearing functionality to crashes in either of the two. To get a static build, either pass the --static-deps option to the setup.py script, or run pip with the STATIC_DEPS or STATICBUILD environment variable set to true, i.e. STATIC_DEPS=true pip install lxml The STATICBUILD environment variable is handled equivalently to the STATIC_DEPS variable, but is used by some other extension packages, too. I am generally confused about how pip packages and ubuntu packages get along, so I hesitate to run STATIC_DEPS=true pip install lxml. Will it damage/confuse my installed lxml2 package? The suggestion on SO was to install the new lxml in a virtualenv. That looks like the best way to go, but the lxml site is suggesting that a dual installation will work also. In general: what happens if I use pip (to get a newer install) for a package that is already installed by apt-get?

  Hi, everyone: When you are doing ADF Mobile development, and you need to deploy the application to an iOS device, you would need to compile/deploy the app with iOS App Certificates and Provisioning Profile. This means you would need to "Deploy to Package" or "Deploy to iTunes" during deployment, and configure JDeveloper with the proper certificates/profiles. In some instances (exact combination is still not clear), deploy and signing the application to generate the ipa file may fail with similar error message at the end of the deployment log: [01:04:45 PM] Deployment failed due to one or more errors returned by '/usr/bin/xcrun'. The path for Xcode 4.3 and above would be like: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents//Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/bin/PackageApplication to this script file.   Just a quick blog post to share a couple of scripts for using PowerShell to call SQL Compare. This is an example from my session at SQL in the City on setting up a sandbox development process. This just runs a compare between a set of scripts and a database and deploys it. set-Location “c:\Program Files (x86)\Red Gate\SQL Compare 10\”; ./sqlcompare /s2:DOJO /db2:MovieManagement_Sandbox /sourcecontrol1 /vu1:grant /vp1:12345 /r1:HEAD /sfx:scripts.xml /sync /mfx:migrations.xml /verbose; I would not recommend using the /verbose output for real automation, but I’m showing off how the tool works. This particular script does a compare straight from source control to a database on my server. You can use variables where I’ve hard coded. That’s it. Works great. Just wanted to share it out there. I have others that I’ll track down and put up here.

• Run database checks but omit large tables or filegroups - New option in Ola Hallengren's Scripts

  One of the things I've always wanted in DBCC CHECKDB is the option to omit particular tables from the check. The situation that I often see is that companies with large databases often have only one or two very large tables. They want to run a DBCC CHECKDB on the database to check everything except those couple of tables due to time constraints. I posted a request on the Connect site about time some time ago: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/611164/dbcc-checkdb-omit-tables-option The workaround from the product team was that you could script out the checks that you did want to carry out, rather than omitting the ones that you didn't. I didn't overly like this as a workaround as clients often had a very large number of objects that they did want to check and only one or two that they didn't. I've always been impressed with the work that our buddy Ola Hallengren has done on his maintenance scripts. He pinged me recently about my old Connect item and said he was going to implement something similar. The good news is that it's available now. The Update-EbuMembers cmdlet does not return an object. I want to log any verbose messages written by WriteVerbose and I want to log errors created by ThrowTerminatingError.

• Plesk hosting on MediaTemple DV

  Hi there, We have a MediaTemple dedicated virtual running Plesk. The problem we're having is that changing the permissions of files on the server to be writable by server owner (apache) is conflicting with the ability to upload and overwrite files via the FTP user. Here's an example, I upload a file from user "serverftp" and they own the new file in the httpdocs folder. I then change the permission of an image upload folder to the apache user to that I can upload images via a PHP script. Uploading or changing that folder with the serverftp user is then locked out. Speaking to tech support didn't get very far because there are some strange group permissions going on and it would involve me adding every single domain FTP user to the pcantl group or something similar. I'm wondering how I can easily change things so that I don't have this problem anymore.

• problems with installation of ubuntu 12.04 (64 and 32 bits)

  I am a latinoamerican so.. sorry for my english I am trying to install ubuntu on my new pc but I have serious problems. When I put the installation cd and it runs, everything goes fine until that "window" when the user have to decide if want to try ubuntu or install it on the machine.. well that "window" apears in blank, and I see that my mouse and my keyboard turn really slowly and I can't do anything I have to shut it down by pressing power botton. The specification of my pc are this Gigabyte ex58 ud7 i7 950 wester digital caviar black 6gb memory corsair evga gtx580 Please i really neeed to install ubuntu or another linux distrubution, i am usign de sismic unix program on my laptop and well. it burns when i program a script! help! please :) what can i do..? what i have to download? i am not a pro in linux so please :( be pattient with me when it starts to load the achieve ubuntu environment to enter a menu with a graphical environment but I managed to get something sturdy and gave him to try ubuntu, started to load but freezes on the sign of ubuntu with red spots and only shows me the pointer not more ..... any other option? ps: had previously tried to install the alternate version of ubuntu not having success: S

• Best way to let users choose country/language when submiting an URL to a directory

  I want to offer the user the possibility to add the country/language for websites they would submit to a fairly simple website directory. I have a folder with flags from http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/flags/ . The flag images are named according to the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes, meaning that I could make a PHP script that would be able to retrieve images and the name of the country retrieved from the image name (not the full name, but it wouldn't be necessary). Just to make things clearer, I couldn't find a proper combo-box jQuery plugin for my needs (that would act exactly like the native but with an icon before the text) and don't really have the time to develop one on my own. Considering the number of images, I also wouldn't just display them all with a radio box near them. Also, having a classic drop-down list would be a nightmare for me as I would have to assign the short country name manually to each entry, or do it once for every country. Offering the user a dropdown list with the short country names but no flag near them would also be unfriendly and confusing. The idea is that every website featured in the directory would have the country flag icon near it. I have the images named properly but I don't know how to let the user choose the right image for their website. Any idees? Thank you all in advance! • HALEVT troubleshooting: VFAT usb storage device gets mounted with root:root user:group

  Hi, i'm banging my head for number of days around this problem. using Halevt for automounting, everything mostly works, but the only thing is that Halevt mounts external USB storage devices as root. So, as user i cannot write to files on them. Halevt gets run as halevt user on boot through /etc/init.d script. This is Ubuntu Lucid with Awesome WM. No GDM. Running halevt as user seem to not work (halevt runs but doesn't respond on Insert) I know HAL is deprecated and removed and i should probably write my own UDEV rules, but until then it seems there must a be simple hack that enables mounting VFAT/NTFS devices with specific uid/gid. this question/answer helps a lot, but not specifically to the above.

  How to use Binary Log file for Auditing in MySQL? I want to track the change in a DB using Binary Log so that I can replicate these changes to other DB please do not give me hyperlinks for MySQL website. please direct me to find the solution I have looked for auditing options and created a script using Triggers for that, but due toi the Joomla DB structure it did'nt worked for me, hence I have to move on to Binary Log file concept now i am stucked in initiating the concept as I am not getting the concept of making the server master/slave, so can any body guide me how to actually initiate it via PHP?
