When the user clicks on change, a dropdown box appears next to the change/submit button and the user makes a selection which then updates the db and the selection appears instead of the dropdown. All works fine in IE8 and firefox but in IE7 it allows one selection (there are several identical dropdowns) but the second time a selection is made it hangs on please wait.   • What happens when auto_increment on integer column reaches the max_value in databases?

    I am implementing a database application and I will use both JavaDB and MySQL as database. I have an ID column in my tables that has integer as type and I use the databases auto_increment-function for the value. But what happens when I get more than 2 (or 4) billion posts and integer is not enough? Is the integer overflowed and continues or is an exception thrown that I can handle? Yes, I could change to long as datatype, but how do I check when that is needed? And I think there is problem with getting the last_inserted_id()-functions if I use long as datatype for the ID-column.

    I have a list of Accommodation objects bound to a Repeater, and then a nested Repeater which has the various attendee groups listed [e.g. Default, Seniors, Juniors]. This is all output fine, with the values displayed as LinkButtons, which when clicked gets sent to a code-behind event handler. Here is an example of the output to give you a picture [with some er... interesting attendee group names]: In the event handler, I test the object parameter to see which Repeater has been sent, as the outer repeater's links can also be clicked [so the Accommodation would be set, but no Attendee Group]. Is there a way to get a HiddenField from the outer RepeaterItem that contains the currently clicked inner repeater's LinkButton? E.g. From the image, I click the Attending link in the Women section. So the EventArgs via FindControl can get me the hidden field which contains the Attendee Group's ID, which is good, but I also need the Accommodation ID [to know whether it was either Wimbledon Hotel Inn or New Acc]

    Dear All: Using the following code: @Entity @Table(uniqueConstraints=[@UniqueConstraint(columnNames=["account","name"])]) class Friend { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.AUTO) public Long id @ManyToOne public Account account public String href public String name } I get the following error: org.hibernate.AnnotationException: Unable to create unique key constraint (account, name) on table Friend: account not found It seems this has to do with the @ManyToOne constraint, which I imagine actually creates a separate UniqueConstraint??? In any case, if I take this out, there is no complaint about the UniqueConstraint, but there is another error which makes me believe it must be left in. org.hibernate.MappingException: Could not determine type for: com.mksoft.fbautomate.domain.Account, at table: Friend, for columns: [org.hibernate.mapping.Column(account)] Any hints how I can create such a desired constraint (i.e., that each combination of account and name occurs only once???) The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://tempuri.org/:id. The InnerException message was 'Error in line 1 position 120. XML 'Element' 'http://tempuri.org/:id' does not contain expected attribute 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Serialization/:Type'. The deserializer has no knowledge of which type to deserialize. Check that the type being serialized has the same contract as the type being deserialized.'. Please see InnerException for more details. Please help me how to resolve this error.... If I use Netdatacontract attribute on Operation Contract, can i use DataContract and Datamember attribute on serializable class??? Thanks in advance...

  • Applying Domain Model on top of Linq2Sql entities

    I am trying to practice the model first approach and I am putting together a domain model. My requirement is pretty simple: UserSession can have multiple ShoppingCartItems. I should start off by saying that I am going to apply the domain model interfaces to Linq2Sql generated entities (using partial classes). My requirement translates into three database tables (UserSession, Product, ShoppingCartItem where ProductId and UserSessionId are foreign keys in the ShoppingCartItem table). Linq2Sql generates these entities for me. I know I shouldn't even be dealing with the database at this point but I think it is important to mention. The aggregate root is UserSession as a ShoppingCartItem can not exist without a UserSession but I am unclear on the rest. What about Product? It is defiently an entity but should it be associated to ShoppingCartItem? Here are a few suggestion (they might all be incorrect implementations): public interface IUserSession { public Guid Id { get; set; } public IList<IShoppingCartItem> ShoppingCartItems{ get; set; } } public interface IShoppingCartItem { public Guid UserSessionId { get; set; } public int ProductId { get; set; } } Another one would be: public interface IUserSession { public Guid Id { get; set; } public IList<IShoppingCartItem> ShoppingCartItems{ get; set; } } public interface IShoppingCartItem { public Guid UserSessionId { get; set; } public IProduct Product { get; set; } } A third one is: public interface IUserSession { public Guid Id { get; set; } public IList<IShoppingCartItemColletion> ShoppingCartItems{ get; set; } } public interface IShoppingCartItemColletion { public IUserSession UserSession { get; set; } public IProduct Product { get; set; } } public interface IProduct { public int ProductId { get; set; } } I have a feeling my mind is too tightly coupled with database models and tables which is making this hard to grasp.     I want to use document.createDocumentFragment() to create an optimized collection of HTML elements that contain ".data" coming from jQuery (v 1.4.2), but I'm kind of stuck on how to get the data to surface from the HTML elements.   • Using RouteExistingFiles to block access to existing files even if no route exists

    In ASP.net MVC 2, I can use routes.RouteExistingFiles = true; to send all requests through the routing system, even if they exist on the file system. Usually, this ends up hitting the "{controller}/{action}/{id}" route and throws an exception as the controller cannot be found. I do not want to use that route though (I have only a few URLs and they are specifically mapped), yet I would still like to prevent access to the file system. Basically I want to Whitelist pages using IgnoreRoute. Is there a built-in way to do this? My current approach is to still have the "{controller}/{action}/{id}" route and generate a 404 when this is hit, but I'm just wondering if something is built-in already?

    So I have a Django app that processes test results, and I'm trying to find the median score for a certain assessment. I would think that this would work: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) median_exam = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score')[median:1] median_score = median_exam.score But it always returns an empty list. I can get the result I want with this: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) exams = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score') median_score = median_exam[median].score I would just prefer not to have to query the entire set of exams. I thought about just writing a raw MySQL query that looks something like: SELECT score FROM assess_exam WHERE assessment_id = 5 ORDER BY score LIMIT 690,1 But if possible, I'd like to stay within Django's ORM. Mostly, it's just bothering me that I can't seem to use order_by with a filter and a limit. Any ideas?

    When I install my application, along with the binaries, a conf file is installed that the user can change as he needs (it's actually the user data file). I would like this file to not be overwritten or deleted when a repair, upgrade, modify happens and it should be deleted only when a real uninstall happens. In other words: this conf file is installed along with the binaries and should never be touched again (overwritten/deleted) until a real uninstall happens (not repairs, modifies, upgrades) in which case it should be deleted. So I was thinking of doing: <Component Id="aaa.cfg" Guid="GUID"> <File Id="aaa.cfg" Source="aaa.cfg" KeyPath="yes" /> </Component> But I don't know how could I condition the component so that: 1) the component to be removed only on a real uninstall - not upgrades, repairs, modifies? 2) the file should in no case be overwritten if already exists. How does the above look? Should I use a composite key for ContactInformation on [Column 0 and Column1]? Is it ok to use surrogate key all of the time?

First, Should I add anything to my list? Should I remove anything from my list? The items accommodates a large number of cases. However, whenever an app extends a model of another in some way (e.g. adding a field or changing the behavior in some way) I end up writing my own views and only reusing the model. Is this normal?

    Hi all, I am building a database as a simple exercise, it could be hosted on any database server, so I am trying to keep things as much standard as possible. Basically what I would like to do is a 'code' table that get referenced by other entities. I explain: xcode id code r role p property code r admin r staff p title .... then I would like to have some view like: role (select * from code where xcode='r') r admin r staff property (select * from code where xcode='p') p title then, suppose we have an entity myentity id - 1 role - admin (foreign key to role) title - title (foreign key to property) Obviously I cannot create foreign key to a view, but this is to tell the idea I have in mind. How can I reflect such behaviour using whenever possible, standard sql syntax, then as a second option, database additional features like trigger ecc... ? Because if I tell that role and title in myentity are foreign key to 'code', instead of the views, nothing would stop me to insert a role in title field. thanks Leonardo
