• PHP to C# and Vice versa

  I'm in this project: A web page that's gonna be used by the front-end company people to query and update data from a SQL DB. I'm working with visual studio and the code behind (C#) is almost done, so the interactions between SQL and C# and ok. My original idea was to work with ASP.NET which is familiar to me, but that's not gonna be possible. I have to switch to PHP. So, today is my first day learning PHP, checking http://php.net/manual/en/index.php and a lot of things seem quite similar to ASP.NET so I guess it won't be that hard. Anyways, some questions popped up quite fast as I wanted to script something else than a "hello world" . Is there an easy way to get/send C# variables from my class using a php page? I've read soemthing about using XML in order to do so, but still I'm scratching my head, is there another, easier, way to do this?

  Hi, I'm trying to build an XML tree of some data with a parent child relationship, but in the same table. The two fields of importance are CompetitionID ParentCompetitionID Some data might be CompetitionID=1, ParentCompetitionID=null CompetitionID=2, ParentCompetitionID=1 CompetitionID=3, ParentCompetitionID=1 The broken query I have simply displays results in a flat format. Seeing that I'm working with XML, some sort of recursive functionality is required. I can do this using recursion, but would like to see the linq version.   I want to update the following rows after the sum of the previous rows reach a defined threshold. I'm using MySQL, and trying to think of a way to solve this using SQL only. Here's an example. Having the threshold 100. Iterating through the rows, when the sum of the previous rows amount = 100, set the following rows to checked. Before the operation: | id | amount | checked | | 1 | 50 | false | | 2 | 50 | false | | 3 | 20 | false | | 4 | 30 | false | After the operation: | id | amount | checked | | 1 | 50 | false | | 2 | 50 | false | <- threshold reached (50 + 50 = 100) | 3 | 20 | true* | | 4 | 30 | true* | Is it possible to do it with just a SQL query?   Hi All, I have an object Parent which has a list of Children: class Parent {Id, Name, IList children} class Child {Id, Name} I need to select all parents where there is a condition for their children but I do not want to get duplicate rows (don't want the children details to appear in select list) Here is the code: session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Parent)) .SetFetchMode("children", FetchMode.Select); .CreateCriteria("children").Add(Subqueries.PropertyIn("Id", {1,2,3,4})) .List(); The query adds all proprties of child class to select list which results in duplicate Parents.   I'm trying to learn some Ajax and MySQL... Basically, the code that I have right now is similar to: http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_ajax_database.asp I was wondering how should I modify those codes (both html, javascript and php) to create two drop down lists. The first drop list would be used for choosing the Lastname (eg. Swanson) and the second drop list would be used for choosing the Hometown (eg. Quahog). Then the user would click "Submit" button and the query would return the matching results (eg. all the Swansons living in Quahog). I'd be very thankful for all the ideas!

• AS/400 'SELECT 1' Equivalent

  I'm trying to help a friend troubleshoot connection problems with an AS/400. He'd like to run a query against the AS/400 that will always return a record, (similar to a SELECT 1 against MSSQL). He's attempted running SELECT 1 but without luck ... I'm assuming that the AS/400 expects a FROM TableName ... Can anyone provided assistance? Is there a system table/file that always exists that he can run a SELECT TOP 1 (or it's equivalent) against? I've never interacted with an AS/400 so I'm a bit out of my element ... was hoping SO could give me a quick answer ... Thanks in advance!

• Linq To SQL: Retain list order when using .Contains

  I'm using Lucene.net to build a MyListOfIds As List(Of Integer) which I then pass on to my Linq service. I then search the database as follows Return _EventRepository.Read().Where(Function(e) MyListOfIds.Contains(e.ID)).ToList Now I know that Lucene is already ordering MyListOfIds based on the weight it gave each term. What sucks is that Linq is losing that order in it's SQL search. My Question: How can I retain that sort order when building my Lambda expression? I tried using LINQPad to see how the query is being built, but because I had to declare a variable LINQPad didn't show me the resultant SQL :-( Here's what I tried in LINQPad Dim i As New List(Of Integer) i.Add(1) i.Add(100) i.Add(15) i.Add(3) i.Add(123) Dim r = (From e In Events Where i.Contains(e.ID) Select e) note: my example is in VB.NET, but I don't mind if responses are in C#

• Any way to avoid a filesort when order by is different to where clause?

  I have an incredibly simple query (table type InnoDb) and EXPLAIN says that MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (commentable_id = 1976) ORDER BY created_at desc LIMIT 0, 5 exact explain output: table select_type type extra possible_keys key key length ref rows comments simple ref using where; using filesort common_lookups common_lookups 5 const 89 commentable_id is indexed. Comments has nothing trick in it, just a content field. The manual suggests that if the order by is different to the where, there is no way filesort can be avoided. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/order-by-optimization.html I also tried order by id as well as it's equivalent but makes no difference, even if I add id as an index (which I understand is not required as id is indexed implicitly in MySQL). thanks in advance for any ideas!

• Random select is not always returning a single row.

  The intention of following (simplified) code fragment is to return one random row. Unfortunatly, when we run this fragment in the query analyzer, it returns between zero and three results. As our input table consists of exactly 5 rows with unique ID's and as we perform a select on this table where ID equals a random number, we are stumped that there would ever be more than one row returned. Note: among other things, we already tried casting the checksum result to an integer with no avail.   I need to select rows in random order and return a query which holds the rows in both regular order and in reverse order. This is done to simulate a fantasy draft for a basketball game I'm working on. For example, I need a result set as followed: team1 1 team2 2 team6 3 team9 4 team9 5 team6 6 team2 7 team1 8 As you can see, the first four teams are random then then following four are in reverse order. Hope I managed to explain the problem, if not - please comment and I'll explain further.

• MySQL ORDER BY returns things in (apparently) random order !?

  The following query: SELECT DISTINCT ClassName FROM SiteTree ORDER BY ClassName is returning things in no apparent order! I get the same result whether I quote column/table names, or use DISTINCT or not, or add ASC or DESC. I assumed the indexes might be broken, or something like this, so tried dropping and recreating. Also tried REPAIR TABLE and CHECK TABLE. The table collation is set to latin1_swedish_ci. All the textual columns are set to use UTF-8 and collation is set to utf8_general_ci What could be causing this?

• SELECT only a certain set of rows at a time

  I need to select data from one table and insert it into another table. Currently the SQL looks something like this: INSERT INTO A (x, y, z) SELECT x, y, z FROM B b WHERE ... However, the SELECT is huge, resulting in over 2 millions rows and we think it is taking up too much memory. Informix, the db in this case, runs out of virtual memory when the query is run. How would I go about selecting and inserting a set of rows (say 2000)? Given that I don't think there are any row ids etc.

• Anyway to find out the current Windows is in lock mode?

  I have a windows application written in VS 2005. The application makes queries against to sql database in a timer cycle every 2 minutes. If there any data changes, the window will be refreshed with new data. If the user leaves the window, the windows will be automatically locked after a while. There is no sense to keep querying data in ever 2 minutes when the windows is locked; therefore I would like to stop the query when lock is on so that the network data trafic will be reduced and also saves the current windows resources such as memory and CPUs. I am not sure if there is any way to find out the current windows is locked? Not sure if there is any Windows APIs for this purpose if no .Net classes available? My project is in .Net 2.0 and all users are in Windows XP.

  Hey guys, quick question, I have this query, and I am trying to get the latest comment for each topic and then sort those results in descending order (therefore one comment per topic). I have what I think should work, but my join always messes my results up. Somehow, it seems to have sorted the end results properly, but has not taken the latest comment from each topic instead it seems to have just taken a random comment.   I have a stored procedure in Oracle 9i which inserts records in a table. The table has a primary key built to ensure duplicte rows doesnot exists. I am trying to insert a record by calling this stored procedure and it works first time properly. I am again trying to insert a duplicate record and expecting unique constraint violation error. But I am getting ORA-01401 inserted value too large for column I knew its meaning but my query is , if the value inserted is really large then how it got successful in the first attempt.

• Stored Procedure Permissions Problem

  I have migrated a set of SQL 2000 databases to SQL 2008. Most is working well, however I have some stored procedures that scheduled and run by SQL Server Agent jobs that are giving me troubles. Many of the scheduled stored procedures work, but the stored procs that access a database other than the default databases are failing with the following message: Executed as user: XYZ\YadaYada. The server principal: "XYZ\YadaYada" is not able to access the database "MyOtherDatabaseOnSameServer" under the current security context. [SQL STATE 08004](Error 619) The step failed. Obviously, I changed the names to protect the guilty. The account is a user in all of the relavent databases and is a memeber of db_owner, db_datareader, and db_datawriter. When I run these same procedures from a query window in SMS using the same accounts (I have tried many) they work fine. What am I missing?

  Disclaimer: I've solved the problem using Expressions from System.Linq.Expressions, but I'm still looking for a better/easier way. Consider the following situation : var query = from c in db.Customers where (c.ContactFirstName.Contains("BlackListed") || c.ContactLastName.Contains("BlackListed") || c.Address.Contains("BlackListed")) select c; The columns/attributes that need to be checked against the blacklisted term are only available to me at runtime. How do I generate this dynamic where clause? An additional complication is that the Queryable collection (db.Customers above) is typed to a Queryable of the base class of 'Customer' (say 'Person'), and therefore writing c.Address as above is not an option.

• Generate MySQL data dump in SQL from PHP

  I'm writing a PHP script to generate SQL dumps from my database for version control purposes. It already dumps the data structure by means of running the appropriate SHOW CREATE .... query. Now I want to dump data itself but I'm unsure about the best method. My requirements are: I need a record per row Rows must be sorted by primary key SQL must be valid and exact no matter the data type (integers, strings, binary data...) Dumps should be identical when data has not changed I can detect and run mysqldump as external command but that adds an extra system requirement and I need to parse the output in order to remove headers and footers with dump information I don't need (such as server version or dump date). I'd love to keep my script as simple as I can so it can be hold in an standalone file. What are my alternatives?

• Accessing inter-schema tables and relations in hibernate

  There is a typical situation being faced where different tables are scattered through different schemas in Oracle database and they are related to each other (encompassing all different types of relations). How can they be represented in Hibernate using annotations as when a sessionfactory handle is created for one schema, tables in that schema can't access other related tables (foreign key relation to tables in other schema)? For a query like following, exception is thrown - "from table1 as model where model.table2Name.table2column = "+foo Exception comes as - org.hibernate.QueryException: could not resolve property: table2column of: com.test.table1 [from com.test.table1 as model where model.table2Name.table2column = 1] Here table1 and table2 are present in different schemas.
