• Conditions of Use dialog for Windows logins

  I need to design a "Conditions of Use" dialog that is presented to users after they logon to Windows XP. It must not allow the user to proceed until they check an "I agree" box. It must not be possible to shut it using Task Manager or any other method. And it should be fullscreen and modal. The "I agree" will remain checked automatically during subsequent logins for the duration of 1 month, after which the user will need to check it again. Also HR want to track who has checked the checkbox. Is such a thing possible using .Net? I can use C# to design it but I'm not sure about how to prevent users from bypassing the dialog. I know Windows Group Policy allows a dialog to be presented before login, but that does not allow a checkbox or any customization. Any thoughts?

  I am using Fedora 17 xfce and I am programming in Python 2.7.3. Fedora uses a package manager called yum. I have a python script that searches for packages like this: import os package = raw_input("Enter package name to search: ") os.system("yum list " + package) So I want python to check if in the output of this command exists the words "No matching packages to list". I checked a similar question and I tried some methods [http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2502833/python-store-output-of-subprocess-call-in-a-string][1] but the string contained only the first line of the output. • How does LocationManager work

  I have been going through the google docs for the locationManager API and specifically over the method locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 60000, 10, this); In the above line, the manager will check for location updates after each minute and distance of 10 meters. My question is does it actually take both the parameters into consideration? For example if you are driving along how will the method work? Will it start looking for updated locations since you are over the minimum distance between the two updates or will it wait for a minute irrespective? If someone can tell me its behavior, it would be great. Thanks.!!

I found this artcile "Enabling filestream usin a VBScript", is there another way to do it than using VBScripts? May be something that is possible to do only with 2008R2? In case it VBScript is the only solution, which are the possible downsides?

  So, we have a project which had to be radically descoped in order to ship on time. It's got a lot of code left in it which is not actually used. I want to clean up the code, removing any dead-wood. I have the authority to do it and I can convince people that it's a commercially sensible thing to do. [I have a lot of automated unit tests, some automated acceptance tests and a team of testers who can manually regression test.] My problem: I'm a manager and I don't know technically how to go about it. Any help?

  So now I am the manager. One of the things I always promised myself I would do is have the other developers focus on learning new stuff. In fact I even want to force them to read a couple books that really helped me learn to program. However now I am also accountable for the product getting finished. I have this vision of everyone reading books instead of working and me getting fired. What is the best way to work learning into the developers schedules, especially for the ones that just don't care to learn. How much time should be spent on learning in a work week?

• Icon fonts vs images

  My manager tells me not to use icon fonts on our websites, as it is another http request plus the extra kBs to download. Also because I would have to use content before for the font (I can't change the html), he prefers background images so it works in IE7. Personally I love the little things, so nice and crisp and resizeable! I get it if we only use a couple of icons on a website but if I would use, say 5 icons on a site - what do you guys think? Is it worth using an icon font or is he right thinking that it is not? I am just a sucker for anything new and exciting, and this year it is the retina display.

I have tried to use the WebBrowser control to open the new tab as well as tried to use the Script manager however I have not been able to open the new tab.   Let me try it: If I don't set this, then the default value is YES. So when I delete an managed object from the context, the context propagates this immediately to the persistent store so the object is gone? And when I set this to NO, then objects are deleted from the persistent store only when calling -save? Is that really true? I mean: If it was true, then the default behavior is that once you call the context to delete an object, the object is gone. Lets assume you're not using an undo manager. So... gone. Right? No rollback possible? Or can it still be recovered with a rollback?

  I'm currently using Zend Framework 2 for all my web tier development using the MVC module that's shipped with the framework. However, I want to implement my business logic in a separate layer, call it the business tier which is a non HTTP layer and expose it through AMQP, and I'd like to reuse my knowledge of PHP for implementing this. Since there is a lot of "stuff" that I need in this business layer such as configuration, a service manager, database access, etc, etc, I'd like to use all the goodies shipped with Zend Framework 2 for this. Are there any examples or tutorials out there on how to build a Zend Framework 2 application that is not build for the web tier and doesn't require the MVC module?

  I'm making a tournament manager in CakePHP 1.3 and I have a tournament controller which is fine but I want to implement a interface that can be used to define how a tournament runs. the controller needs to load a concrete class that implements the TournamentStyle interface that defines how the tournament works. At the end of a round the TournamentStyle is used to calculate the scores and winners and generate the next round of matches. That gives me a .php file for the interface and other files for the various styles. My question is: where would I put these files and how would I load them into my tournament controller?

  Normally I would do this: public class DBFactory { public UserDAO GetUserDao() { return new UserDao(); } } Where UserDao being the concrete implementation of IUserDao. So now my code will be littered with: DBFactory factory = new DBFactory(); IUserDao userDao = factory.GetUserDao(); User user = userDao.GetById(1); Now if I wanted to swap implementaitons, I would have to go to my DBFactory and change my code to call a different implementation. Now if I used NINject, I would bind the specific implementation on application startup, or via a config file. (or bind based on specific parameters etc. etc.). Is that all there is too it?   I'm brand new to acegi and relatively new to Grails. I just followed the tutorial to set up a new role and a new user. Every time I saved the user (with a role checked), it saved the user information fine, but not the role associated with the user. I finally dug into the controller code that was generated, and noticed this: private void addRoles(person) { for (String key in params.keySet()) { if (key.contains('ROLE') && 'on' == params.get(key)) { Authority.findByAuthority(key).addToPeople(person) } } } So to be sure I was interpreting it correctly, I added the word ROLE to my authorties, and it worked like a charm. Am I missing something obvious, is this a bug, or.......? The examples showed simple role names like "user" or "manager".

The program fails at any trying to do something with Ogre::LogManager::getSingletonPtr() object with code User program stopped by signal (SIGSEGV) I checked that getSingletonPtr() returns address 0x000 But using code Utils::get_mutable_instance().getHandle().write("foo") works good in another part of program. What's wrong could be there with calling singletons?

  Hello, in C# Application. I've a windows form application in which clicking certain button make object from a 2nd Form. On closing this 2nd From by user Memory used by this form not released (from Task Manager). I Tried using this.dispose() on exit button ,tried this.close() , tried form2 =null in the main code ,and tried clearing all controls from this form by code before Disposing and every time the clicks the button memory usage by the application increases more and memory used by previous instance not released. What shall i use to solve this problem ?

  Today I got into a debate with my project manager about Cartesian products. He says a 'natural join' is somehow much better than using 'select from where' because the later cause the db engine to internally perform a Cartesian product but the former uses another approach that prevents this. As far as I know, the natural join syntax is not any different in anyway than 'select from where' in terms of performance or meaning, I mean you can use either based on your taste. SELECT * FROM table1,table2 WHERE table1.id=table2.id SELECT * FROM table1 NATURAL JOIN table2 please elaborate about the first query causing a Cartesian product but the second one being somehow more smart

• Hoard allocator not "working"?

  I'm trying to Hoard allocator to work, but it seems it doesn't. I have a benchmark application that does a lot of dynamic memory management. The execution time for Hoard and glibc memory manager is the same. It makes me wonder if I'm doing the right thing. What I do is... export LD_PRELOAD="/path/libhoard.so" g++ main.cpp -O3 -o bm -lpthread -lrt Shouldn't I have to link to Hoard allocator? Does it matter what path (in LD_PRELOAD) is, or can I have whatever path? I'm running Ubuntu 8.04, and g++ 4.2.4 Cheers

  Hi, I want to make an android application that will intimate the users about the approaching railway stations in INDIA. For this I will use GPS (Location Manager etc) on Android. So far, I have not developed the applications using GPS, so I have little insight on the capabilities of Android API for this. I know, through the android API I can know the current location of the users through GPS and google API but can I know the location of nearby railway stations from Google API for India? Or can I know the latitude and longitude of all the Railway Stations so that I can pre-feed that in the applciation? Please help me in finding out the way.

  Hi All I am developing a user manager which must control access to the detail view of editable items. At present, when a user clicks 'edit', the application queries the link table to check if a user is currently editing that page, if not, it allows access to the page and then inserts a record into the link table preventing another user from editing the same page at the same time. My question is what would the best way to handle the removal of records if say a user exists the browser without saving etc, therefore no action to remove the record. • How can I find if an arbitrary process is running under wow64?

  I need a tool which will discover whether an arbitrary process is running in x86 or x64 mode on a machine. I need to do this programatically from C++, based on a process ID. There has to be some way to do this (as you can clearly see it from the task manager). Does anyone know of a windows api that will tell you, given a process ID, whether the application is running under wow64? Another approach would be to figure out, based on the process id, the executable name/path that is running and try to read the PE headers out of the file. Does anyone have a code snippet that would accomplish that?
