• A call to PInvoke function '[...]' has unbalanced the stack

  Hey I'm getting this weird error on some stuff I've been using for quite a while. It may be a new thing in Visual Studio 2010 but I'm not sure. I'm trying to call a unamanged function written in C++ from C#. From what I've read on the internet and the error message itself it's got something to do with the fact that the signature in my C# file is not the same as the one from C++ but I really can't see it. First of all this is my unamanged function below: TEngine GCreateEngine(int width,int height,int depth,int deviceType); And here is my function in C#: [DllImport("Engine.dll", EntryPoint = "GCreateEngine", CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern IntPtr CreateEngine(int width,int height,int depth,int device); When I debug into C++ I see all arguments just fine so thus I can only think it's got something to do with transforming from TEngine (which is a pointer to a class named CEngine) to IntPtr. I've used this before in VS2008 with no problem. I hope my problem is clear enough for you guys to understand.

• LED Monitor brightness

  I am in the market for a new monitor. I've been looking around and it seems that the general brightness for monitors is between 250-320 cd/m2. After hours of searching, I narrowed it down to the LG W2453V-PF vs. the LG E2350V-SN The W2453V-PF is not LED backlit yet it has a brightness level of 310 cd/m2 and a response time of 2ms. The E2350V-SN, on the other hand, has a brightness level of 250 cd/m2 and a response time of 5ms but it is LED backlit. My questions are, looking at these overall specs: Which monitor is better? What makes LED backlight better? Is the LED backlight worth the decreased brightness level? Thanks! p.s. if you have any other comparable monitor suggestions (that are not samsung - I read their customer service is absolutely terrible), feel free to share. thanks!

• CA2000 and disposal of WCF client

  There is plenty of information out there concerning WCF clients and the fact that you cannot simply rely on a using statement to dispose of the client. This is because the Close method can throw an exception (i.e. if the server hosting the service doesn't respond). However, when I run Code Analysis in Visual Studio 2010 I still get a CA2000 warning. CA2000 : Microsoft.Reliability : In method 'DoSomething()', call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object 'client' before all references to it are out of scope. Is there something I can do to my code to get rid of the warning or should I use SuppressMessage to hide this warning once I am comfortable that I am doing everything possible to be sure the client is disposed of? • protobuf-net: Issues deserializing DataMember fields in lieu of read-only property

  I'm having issues deserializing certain properties of ORM-generated entities using protobuf-net. I suspect something in the way the ORM manages serialization attributes on read-only properties (uses public backing fields with DataMember attributes & [de]serializes) those instead of the corresponding read-only property, which has an IgnoreDataMember attribute). Guid properties might have issues of their own, but the field vs. property thing is my working theory now. Here's a simplified example of the code. Say I have a class, Account with an AccountID read-only guid, and an AccountName read-write string. I serialize & immediately deserialize a clone. In this scenario I get one of two results (depending on the entity, haven't isolated the specific commonality yet). The deserialized clone either: ...has a different AccountID from the original, or ...throws an Incorrect wire-type deserializing Guid exception while deserializing. Here's example usage... Account acct = new Account() { AccountName = "Bob's Checking" }; Debug.WriteLine(acct.AccountID.ToString()); using (MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream()) { ProtoBuf.Serializer.Serialize<Account>(ms, acct); Debug.WriteLine(Encoding.UTF8.GetString(ms.GetBuffer())); ms.Position = 0; Account clone = ProtoBuf.Serializer.Deserialize<Account>(ms); Debug.WriteLine(clone.AccountID.ToString()); } And here's an example ORM'd class (simplified; hopefully haven't removed the cause of the issue in the process). I've tried protobuf-net with lists vs. single instances, different prefix styles, etc., but always either get the 'incorrect wire type ... Guid' exception, or the Guid property (field) not deserializing correctly. So the specific questions are, is there a quick workaround for this, and/or is there an explanation for both of outcomes 1 & 2 above, and/or can protobuf-net somehow be corralled into behaving like WCF in cases like this (i.e. follow the same DataMember/IgnoreDataMember semantics)? We hope not to have to create a protobuf dependency directly in the entity layer; if that's the case, we'll probably create proxy DTO entities with all public properties having protobuf attributes. (This is a subjective issue I have with all declarative serialization models; it's a ubiquitous pattern, but IMO, "normal" should be to have objects and serialization contracts decoupled.) Thanks!

• Calling C# object method from IronPython

  I'm trying to embed a scripting engine in my game. Since I'm writing it in C#, I figured IronPython would be a great fit, but the examples I've been able to find all focus on calling IronPython methods in C# instead of C# methods in IronPython scripts. To complicate things, I'm using Visual Studio 2010 RC1 on Windows 7 64 bit. IronRuby works like I expect it would, but I'm not very familiar with Ruby or Python syntax. What I'm doing: ScriptEngine engine = Python.CreateEngine(); ScriptScope scope = engine.CreateScope(); //Test class with a method that prints to the screen. scope.SetVariable("test", this); ScriptSource source = engine.CreateScriptSourceFromString("test.SayHello()", Microsoft.Scripting.SourceCodeKind.Statements); source.Execute(scope); This generates an error, "'TestClass' object has no attribute 'SayHello'" This exact set up works fine with IronRuby though using "self.test.SayHello()" I'm wary using IronRuby though because it doesn't appear as mature as IronPython. If it's close enough, I might go with that though. Any ideas? I know this has to be something simple.

I've been following a tutorial and a sample application, namely 5 Days of Wicket - Writing the tests: http://www.mysticcoders.com/blog/2009/03/10/5-days-of-wicket-writing-the-tests/ I've set up my own little project with a simple shoutbox that saves messages to a database. I then wanted to set up a couple of tests that would make sure that if a message is stored in the database, the retrieved object would contain the exact same data. Upon running mvn test all my tests fail. The exception has been pasted in the first code box underneath. I've noticed that even though my unitils.properties says to use the 'hdqldb'-dialect, this message is still output in the console window when starting the tests: INFO - Dialect - Using dialect: org.hibernate.dialect.PostgreSQLDialect. I've added the entire dump from the console as well at the bottom of this post (which goes on for miles and miles :-)). • Entity Framework 4 "Generate Database from Model" to SQLEXPRESS mdf results in "Could not locate ent

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010 RTM. I want to do model-first, so I started a new MVC app and added a new blank edmx. Created a few entities. No problem. Then I "Generate Database from Model", and allow the dialog to create a new database for me, which it does successfully as 'mydatabase.mdf' in the app's App_Data directory. Then I open the generated sql file (in Visual Studio). To run it of course I have to give it a connection. I am not sure if it's right, but I used '.\SQLEXPRESS' and Windows authentication. No idea how I'd tell it where the MDF is. Then the problem -- upon executing it, I get: Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'mydatabase'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. And indeed there were no tables created in the MDF. So... what am I doing wrong, or am I off my rocker expecting this to work? :)

  I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it.   I installed the Feb 2010 WPF Toolkit as I'm interested in evaluating the AutoCompleteBox control and I'm having extremely limited success. I can get the control to work, but as soon as I try and set any of it's properties in XAML, I get the following: Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'WPFToolkit, Version=3.5.40128.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event. I've been testing this on a blank WPF window in a new solution. I'm guessing I'm just missing a reference or something... • F# Powerpack's Metadata doesn't recognize FSharp.Core as an F# library

Any ideas? I'm using Visual Studio 2008, F# 2.0 and F# Powerpack 2.0.0.0 (May 20, 2010) release on an oldish XP VM, I think it's updated to SP3 though. • Using DirectX Effect11 with Visual Studio 2012

  I recently updated to Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. I was programming previously with DirectX 11 June 2010 SDK and want to continue to do so using Visual Studio 2012. However, I discovered that VS2012 comes with its own DirectX SDK (in Windows Kit 8.0) and I've been trying to migrate my code using the newer versions of d3d11. Everything went fine until I try to use effect files in my project (.fx files). I had to compile the Effects11 Sample in the DirectX SDK using VS2012 and link the lib file in my project. That went fine too. However, when I compile my project the function D3DX11CreateEffectFromMemory returns a E_NOINTERFACE error (no such interface is supported). Can anyone tell me why is that? Note that I'm using the d3d11.lib from the Windows Kit and the d3dx11.lib from the DirectX SDK. Perhaps I shouldn't mix them? However, everything else works fine when I mix them, except for the effect file creation. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I don't know if this is helpful but just so you know, if I add an additional library directory in the project settings of "DirectXSDKInstallPath\lib\x86\" it works. Why is that? Does it mean I'm using the older version of the libraries? This will give a ton of warnings about redefined headers in winerror.h

A strongly named application or component cannot reference a weak-named component, so strong-naming an EXE prevents the EXE from referencing weak-named DLLs that are deployed with the application. For this reason, the Visual Studio project system does not strong-name application EXEs. Instead, it strong-names the Application manifest, which internally points to the weak-named application EXE. I expected VS to avoid this problem, but I had no luck there, it complained about all the unsigned references, so I created a separate "WCF Service Library" project inside my solution containing only code above and signed that one. At this point entire solution compiled just okay. And here's my problem: When I fired up "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I was able to add new behavior element extension (say "AuthExtension"), but then when I tried to add that extension to my end point behavior it gives me: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. • jqGrid local data manipulation; problem with row ids when deleting and adding new rows

  I'm using jqGrid as a client side grid input, allowing the user to input multiple records before POSTing all the data back at once. I'm having a problem where if the user has added a few records (say 3 ) the id's for the records will be 1,2,3. if the user deletes record 2, you're left with 1 and 3 for the id of the records. When the user now adds a new records, jqGrid assigns that records the id 3 again since it just seems to count the total records and increments it by one for the new record. This causes problems when selecting rows as now the row id's are 1, 3 and 3. Does anyone know how to access the row ids of records as I could probably use the afterSubmit event and reassign the row id's increasing from 1. ( so after i delete row id 2, this will set the other row id's to 1 and 2) Any other suggestions to solve this problem? Thanks edit I've solved this with the following code for the delete navGrid button }).navGrid('#pager', {add:true, del:true, refresh:false, search:false}, { ... }, ##edit parameters { ... }, ##add parameters {reloadAfterSubmit:false, clearAfterAdd:false, afterComplete: function () { ## clear and readd the row data so the row ids are sequential var savedData= $("#inputgrid").jqGrid('getRowData'); $("#inputgrid").jqGrid('clearGridData'); $("#inputgrid").jqGrid('addRowData', 'rn', savedData); } } ##delete parameters ); Basically just saving the grid data and then re-adding it so that the rowids are sequential again. For some reason it causes the row numbers down the left side to go start from 2 instead of one. Edit this was solved by using the latest jqGrid code in GitHub (27th April 2010)

  Continuing a previous question I asked here, I now need to move to vs2010. I've gotten the most recent weekly build of WiX 3.5, the June 5th 2010 version. Here's the relevant lines from my installer: <ItemGroup> <BootstrapperFile Include="Microsoft.Net.Framework.4.0"> <ProductName>.NET Framework 4.0</ProductName> </BootstrapperFile> <BootstrapperFile Include="Microsoft.Windows.Installer.4.5"> <ProductName>Windows Installer 4.5</ProductName> </BootstrapperFile> </ItemGroup> and <GenerateBootstrapper ApplicationFile="MySetup.msi" ApplicationName="MyProgram" BootstrapperItems="@(BootstrapperFile)" Path="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bootstrapper\" ComponentsLocation="Relative" OutputPath="$(OutputPath)" Culture="en" /> However, it's just not working. In vs2010, there are exclamation points next to the .NET Framework 4.0 and Windows Installer 4.5 files, and the properties page lists them as 'Unknown BuildAction BootstrapperFile', and the build just does not appear to install .NET 4.0 at all. The relevant warning is: C:\source\depot\project\vs2010\WiXSetup\WiXSetup.wixproj(68,5): warning MSB3155: Item 'Microsoft.Net.Framework.4.0' could not be located in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bootstrapper\'.

  Anyone have experience of using the JoinDomainOrWorkgroup Method of the Win32_ComputerSystem Class? I want to write a powershell script to join a machine to a domain. There may be an existing computer account for the machine, and if so I want to delete it and rejoin to the domain. I've already scripted the "search and destroy" part that will delete the computer account if it exists, but just noticed the FJoinOptions switches on Technet. Trouble is - they're a bit ambiguous. Does 4 (0x4) Deletes an account when a domain exists. mean it will delete the computer account if it already exists on the domain? Also, can you specify the computername you want to join the machine under with this method, or should you do a rename and then join the domain.   I have 3 servers, a Apache Server, a JBOSS Server and a CAS Server for SSO. The Apache Server resolve all request with a domain such as www.request.com, and the path of CAS Server is www.request.com/cas, and JBOSS Server is www.request.com/jboss (This app got a CAS client). My problem is if I set SSLVerifyClient require for the NameVirtualHost of www.request.com in my Apache Server, I got a HTTP 500 error during the redirecting to the JBOSS Server(http://www.request.com/jboss), after logined in the CAS login page successfully. • AppEngine JRuby - OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space - can it be solved?

  I use AppEngine JRuby on Rails (SDK version 1.3.3.1) - a problem I encounter often is that after a few requests the server is getting really SLOW, until it dies and throws OutOfMemoryError on the terminal (OSX). The requests themselves are very lightweight, not more than looking for an entity or saving it, using DataMapper. On appspot, this problem is not happening. Is there any way to enlarge the heap space for JRuby?
