• wrong return value with jquery ajax and codeigniter

  I do not know if this is specifically a jquery problem, actually I think it has to mostly do with my logic in the php code. What Im trying to do is make a voting system that when the user clicks on the vote up or vote down link in the web page, it triggers an ajax call to a php function that first updates the database with with the required value, on success of the database updating the another function is called just to get the required updated html for the that particular post that the user has voted on. (hope I havnt lost you). The problem I think deals with specifically with this one line of code. When I make the call it only returns the value of $row-beer_down and completly ignores everything else in that line. • SINGLE SIGN ON SECURITY THREAT! FACEBOOK access_token broadcast in the open/clear

  Subsequent to my posting there was a remark made that this was not really a question but I thought I did indeed postulate one. So that there is no ambiquity here is the question with a lead in: Since there is no data sent from Facebook during the Canvas Load process that is not at some point divulged, including the access_token, session and other data that could uniquely identify a user, does any one see any other way other than adding one more layer, i.e., a password, sent over the wire via HTTPS along with the access_toekn, that will insure unique untampered with security by the user? Using Wireshark I captured the local broadcast while loading my Canvas Application page. I was hugely surprised to see the access_token broadcast in the open, viewable for any one to see. This access_token is appended to any https call to the Facebook OpenGraph API. Using facebook as a single click log on has now raised huge concerns for me. It is stored in a session object in memory and the cookie is cleared upon app termination and after reviewing the FB.Init calls I saw a lot of HTTPS calls so I assumed the access_token was always encrypted. But last night I saw in the status bar a call from what was simply an http call that included the App ID so I felt I should sniff the Application Canvas load sequence. Today I did sniff the broadcast and in the attached image you can see that there are http calls with the access_token being broadcast in the open and clear for anyone to gain access to. Am I missing something, is what I am seeing and my interpretation really correct. If any one can sniff and get the access_token they can theorically make calls to the Graph API via https, even though the call back would still need to be the site established in Facebook's application set up. But what is truly a security threat is anyone using the access_token for access to their own site. I do not see the value of a single sign on via Facebook if the only thing that was established as secure was the access_token - becuase for what I can see it clearly is not secure. Access tokens that never have an expire date do not change. Access_tokens are different for every user, to access to another site could be held tight to just a single user, but compromising even a single user's data is unacceptable. http://www.creatingstory.com/images/InTheOpen.png Went back and did more research on this: FINDINGS: Went back an re ran the canvas application to verify that it was not any of my code that was not broadcasting. In this call: HTTP GET /connect.php/en_US/js/CacheData HTTP/1.1 The USER ID is clearly visible in the cookie. So USER_ID's are fully visible, but they are already. Anyone can go to pretty much any ones page and hover over the image and see the USER ID. So no big threat. APP_ID are also easily obtainable - but . . . http://www.creatingstory.com/images/InTheOpen2.png The above file clearly shows the FULL ACCESS TOKEN clearly in the OPEN via a Facebook initiated call. Am I wrong. TELL ME I AM WRONG because I want to be wrong about this. I have since reset my app secret so I am showing the real sniff of the Canvas Page being loaded. Additional data 02/20/2011: @ifaour - I appreciate the time you took to compile your response. I am pretty familiar with the OAuth process and have a pretty solid understanding of the signed_request unpacking and utilization of the access_token. I perform a substantial amount of my processing on the server and my Facebook server side flows are all complete and function without any flaw that I know of. The application secret is secure and never passed to the front end application and is also changed regularly. I am being as fanatical about security as I can be, knowing there is so much I don’t know that could come back and bite me. Two huge access_token issues: The issues concern the possible utilization of the access_token from the USER AGENT (browser). During the FB.INIT() process of the Facebook JavaScript SDK, a cookie is created as well as an object in memory called a session object. This object, along with the cookie contain the access_token, session, a secret, and uid and status of the connection. The session object is structured such that is supports both the new OAuth and the legacy flows. With OAuth, the access_token and status are pretty much al that is used in the session object. The first issue is that the access_token is used to make HTTPS calls to the GRAPH API. If you had the access_token, you could do this from any browser: https://graph.facebook.com/220439?access_token=... and it will return a ton of information about the user. So any one with the access token can gain access to a Facebook account. You can also make additional calls to any info the user has granted access to the application tied to the access_token. At first I thought that a call into the GRAPH had to have a Callback to the URL established in the App Setup, but I tested it as mentioned below and it will return info back right into the browser. Adding that callback feature would be a good idea I think, tightens things up a bit. The second issue is utilization of some unique private secured data that identifies the user to the third party data base, i.e., like in my case, I would use a single sign on to populate user information into my database using this unique secured data item (i.e., access_token which contains the APP ID, the USER ID, and a hashed with secret sequence). None of this is a problem on the server side. You get a signed_request, you unpack it with secret, make HTTPS calls, get HTTPS responses back. When a user has information entered via the USER AGENT(browser) that must be stored via a POST, this unique secured data element would be sent via HTTPS such that they are validated prior to data base insertion. However, If there is NO secured piece of unique data that is supplied via the single sign on process, then there is no way to guarantee unauthorized access. The access_token is the one piece of data that is utilized by Facebook to make the HTTPS calls into the GRAPH API. it is considered unique in regards to BOTH the USER and the APPLICATION and is initially secure via the signed_request packaging. If however, it is subsequently transmitted in the clear and if I can sniff the wire and obtain the access_token, then I can pretend to be the application and gain the information they have authorized the application to see. I tried the above example from a Safari and IE browser and it returned all of my information to me in the browser. In conclusion, the access_token is part of the signed_request and that is how the application initially obtains it. After OAuth authentication and authorization, i.e., the USER has logged into Facebook and then runs your app, the access_token is stored as mentioned above and I have sniffed it such that I see it stored in a Cookie that is transmitted over the wire, resulting in there being NO UNIQUE SECURED IDENTIFIABLE piece of information that can be used to support interaction with the database, or in other words, unless there were one more piece of secure data sent along with the access_token to my database, i.e., a password, I would not be able to discern if it is a legitimate call. Luckily I utilized secure AJAX via POST and the call has to come from the same domain, but I am sure there is a way to hijack that. I am totally open to any ideas on this topic on how to uniquely identify my USERS other than adding another layer (password) via this single sign on process or if someone would just share with me that I read and analyzed my data incorrectly and that the access_token is always secure over the wire.   Hi Would appreciate if somebody could help me on this. I have a Tree Panel whose nodes when clicked load a tab into a tab panel. The tabs are loading alright, but my problem is duplication. I need to check if a tab exists before adding it to the tab panel. I cant seem to have this resolved and it is eating my brains. Making my first steps in RIA Services (VS2010Beta2) and i encountered this problem: created an EF Model (no POCOs), generic repository on top of it and a RIA Service(hosted in an ASP.NET MVC application) and tryed to get data from within the ASP.NET MVC application: worked well. Next step: Silverlight client.   Hi there We have a small Brother Barcode printer which we like to control from a WCF Service. Brother has an API called bPAC SDK version 3 which allows to print those labels. But the problem arises, as soon as we want to print from code only without showing a windows with a button on it. As an addition, this happens only if you want to print a QR-code as barcode. Standard EAN-codes seems to work. Below is a small piece of code which outputs the stuff to a bitmap instead of the printer (debugging reasons).   I'm working with Visual Studio 2010 and have a workflow where I'm trying to resume a bookmark. The bookmark appears to be getting set just fine, but when I try to run the code below to resume it, I get an entry in the InstancesTable in the persistence database with the SurrogateLockOwnerID field set to an integer, usually this field is null, and I can no longer do anything with the workflow. I think this is indicating that I have some kind of blocking lock going on, but I can't find any references anywhere to the SurrogateLockOwnerID. Does anyone know what is causing this, and how to fix it? • .Net Windows Service Throws EventType clr20r3 system.data.sqlclient.sql error

  I have a .Net/c# 2.0 windows service. The entry point is wrapped in a try catch block yet when I look at the server's application event log I seem a number of "EventType clr20r3" errors that are causing the service to die unexpectedly. The catch block has a "catch (Exception ex)". Each sql commands is of the type "CommandType.StoredProcedure" and are executed with SqlDataReader's. These sproc calls function correctly 99% of time and have all been thoroughly unit tested, profiled, and QA'd. I additionally wrapped these calls in try catch blocks just to be sure and am still experiencing these unhandled exceptions. This only in our production environment and cannot be duplicated in our dev or staging environments (even under heavy load). Why would my error handling not catch this particular error? Is there anyway to capture more detail as to the root cause of the problem? Here is an example of the event log: EventType clr20r3, P1 RDC.OrderProcessorService, P2 1.0.0.0, P3 4ae6a0d0, P4 system.data, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4889deaf, P7 2490, P8 2c, P9 system.data.sqlclient.sql, P10 NIL.   I'm creating a jqgrid with drop down columns and I'm using cell editing. I need the options of the drop down columns to change dynamically and I've tried implementing this by setting the column to be: { name: "AccountLookup", index: "AccountLookup", width: 90, editable: true, resizable: true, edittype: "select", formatter: "select" }, and then in the beforeCellEdit event I have: beforeEditCell: function(id, name, val, iRow, iCol) { if(name=='AccountLookup') { var listdata = GetLookupValues(id, name); if (listdata == null) listdata = "1:1"; jQuery("#grid").setColProp(name, { editoptions: { value: listdata.toString()} }) } }, GetLookupValues just returns a string in the format "1:One;2:Two" etc. That works fine however the options are populated one click behind - ie i click on AccountID in row 1, and the dropdown is empty, however when I then click on AccountID in row 3 the options I set in the row 1 click are shown in the row 3 click. And so on. So always one click behind. Is there another way of achieving what I need? Bacially the dropdown options displayed are always changing and I need to load them as user enters the cell for editing. Perhaps I can somehow get at the select control in the beforeEditCell event and manually enter its values instead of using the setColProp call? If so could I get an example of doing that please? Another thing - if the dropdown is empty and a user doesn't cancel the cell edit, the grid script throws an error. I'm using clientarray editing if that makes a difference. • SSRS ReportViewer 2010 Iframe IE Problem

  Hello all, My problem relates to trying to include an SSRS (SQL Server) Report inside my MVC application. I've settled on the hybrid solution of having a WebForm with the ReportViewer Control in and then on my MVC View pages having an iframe reference this WebForm page. The tricky part is that the iframe needs to be dynamically populated with the report rather than using src due to posting parameters to the WebForm. It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, however IE throws a "Sys is Undefined" javascript error. Using src on the iframe works in IE, but I can't find a way to post parameters (don't want to use something like /Report.aspx?param1=test due to the possible length). Its a ASP.NET MVC 2 project, .NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x74 if its any help. • Passing parameters to telerik asp.net mvc grid

  I have a telerik asp.net mvc grid which needs to be populated based on the search criteria the user enters in separate text boxes. The grid is using ajax method to load itself initially as well as do paging. How can one pass the search parameters to the grid so that it sends those parameters "every time" it calls the ajax method in response to the user clicking on another page to go to the data on that page? I read the telerik's user guide but it does not mention this scenario. The only way I have been able to do above is by passing the parameters to the rebind() method on client side using jquery. The issue is that I am not sure if it is the "official" way of passing parameters which will always work even after updates. I found this method on this post on telerik's site: link text I have to pass in multiple parameters. The action method in the controller when called by the telerik grid runs the query again based on the search parameters.   Hi, I am using calling web services and using WCF generated service-reference on the client. I have saved XML responses that are received from test service to disk (without SOAP envelope and body tags) I would like to load them from disk and create objects from them. Lets' take the following method from my web service: SomeMethodResponse SomeMethod(SomeMethodRequest req) I manually (through SOAP UI) save the response to disk to file, Sample response: < SomeMethodResponse xmlns="http://myNamespace"> <SomeMember1>value</SomeMember1> </SomeMethodResponse xmlns="http://myNamespace"> Then I try to deserialize the object from file using: DataContractSerializer dcs = new DataContractSerializer(typeof(SomeMethodResponse)) This fails – the serializer complains with the error, that it is expecting element in namespace 'http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07', but found element in 'http://myNamespace'. Question: Why does the DataContractSerializer not use the namespace, that is declared on SomeMethodResponseType with XmlTypeAttribute(Namespace="http://myNamespace")? I can work around this by explicitly providing the namespace and the root element to DataContractSerializer constructor. But then it fails with message similar to: Error in line X position Y (last line of the XMLdocument). 'EndElement' 'SomeMethodResponse from namespace 'httpmyNapespace’ is not expected. Expecting element 'someNameField'. SomeName is an element in the XSD that web service is using. It is also a property on the SomeMethodResponse type, backed by the private field called someNameField. It looks like DataContractSerializer is trying to deserialize the fields in addition to properties. • ASP.NET websites under IIS 7.5 (Windows 7) running extremely slow

  I've just installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop PC. I installed IIS, Visual Studio 2008, registered ASP.NET, etc. I have this ASP.NET 3.5 website I'm working on running EXTREMELY slow on this new IIS. On STA and PROD servers (Windows 2003 Server) and on my old XP/IIS 5.1 everything runs smoothly. A page which usually takes 1-2 seconds to load is taking 8 seconds!!! I saw this post on IIS forum. It says something about Vista/7 not pooling connections (just to let you know, the website is running locally but it's connecting to a SQL Server 2005 hosted on a remote server). It seems that it takes a while to "start loading" the page... I mean, I click refresh and it stays for several seconds "Waiting for localhost"... Then when it gets response it loads the whole page normally... I don't have a clue how to force Win7/IIS7.5 to pool database connections. EDIT: I've created a new empty ASP.NET web application to see if the problems happens too. The answer is no, it responds fast as it should with an empty default page. Maybe is something related to the DB connection. I will do a further test. It should be a way to fix it... EDIT 2: Debugging the app I noticed that the delay occurs AFTER the execution of .NET code (Page_Load, etc)... so the delay seems to be somewhere when IIS serves the page to the browser.

  I need to provide an export to excel feature for a large amount of data returned from a WCF web service. When I debug the service, I can see the window for saving/opening the excel sheet appear before the service returns the result and hence the excel sheet is always empty. Please help me figure this out.

  Hi, I am writing a simple motion detection program but i want it to be cross platform so im using python and the pyglet library since it provides a simple way to load videos in different formats (specially wmv and mpeg). So far i have the code given below which loads the movie and plays it in a window. • Very slow performance deserializing using datacontractserializer in a Silverlight Application.

  Here is the situation: Silverlight 3 Application hits an asp.net hosted WCF service to get a list of items to display in a grid. Once the list is brought down to the client it is cached in IsolatedStorage. This is done by using the DataContractSerializer to serialize all of these objects to a stream which is then zipped and then encrypted. When the application is relaunched, it first loads from the cache (reversing the process above) and the deserializes the objects using the DataContractSerializer.ReadObject() method. All of this was working wonderfully under all scenarios until recently with the entire "load from cache" path (decrypt/unzip/deserialize) taking hundreds of milliseconds at most. On some development machines but not all (all machines Windows 7) the deserialize process - that is the call to ReadObject(stream) takes several minutes an seems to lock up the entire machine BUT ONLY WHEN RUNNING IN THE DEBUGGER in VS2008. Running the Debug configuration code outside the debugger has no problem. One thing that seems to look suspicious is that when you turn on stop on Exceptions, you can see that the ReadObject() throws many, many System.FormatException's indicating that a number was not in the correct format. When I turn off "Just My Code" thousands of these get dumped to the screen. None go unhandled. These occur both on the read back from the cache AND on a deserialization at the conclusion of a web service call to get the data from the WCF Service. HOWEVER, these same exceptions occur on my laptop development machine that does not experience the slowness at all. And FWIW, my laptop is really old and my desktop is a 4 core, 6GB RAM beast. Again, no problems unless running under the debugger in VS2008. Anyone else seem this? Any thoughts?   I have a Microsoft Access 2010 database. Now, using Visual Studio 2010, I want to create a WPF application and add the database as a data source. The app will have a window with a frame that provides navigation through pages. No problem so far. But: -What is the right way to set up the database in this scenario? Tables only? Or must everything go via queries? (VS2010 talks about views which I assume (?) are queries) -Database data must be updatable and records can be added. Some relationships go through link tables (many-to-many) and there are nullable foreign key relationships. Must I take manual steps to make it work? -While adding the data source VS2010 created an xsd from my Access database. I think the xsd might need further tweaking for the application to work the right way. What if I change my Access database design, I'd have to regenerate the xsd again as well. Is this right, and is it the way it is usually done? OR, should I let the original Access database go and give the application the capability to create new empty databases? -How do you provide controls in a page to step through the records in a table? Is there a special database control? -What is the way (WPF class?) to load records into the data context that displays in a page? (At this level it probably does not matter what type of data source it is.)

• javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException after redeploying EJBs

  Using Glassfish 3.0.1 ... If I have a web application accessing EJBs in another application remotely, and the remote application containing the EJBs is redeployed, I get a javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException (see stacktrace below). Shouldn't this work? I can see that the EJB in question was successfully deployed, using the exact same JNDI name. Is there any other way to fix this than to restart the web application? • apache htaccess rewrite rules make redirection loop

  Hi guys, Have a very strange problem with Apache .htaccess URL Rewriting and Redirection. Here's my setup: I have a zend application with a single point of entry (index.php) directly under my apache document root (call this the "public" folder). I also have all other public files (images, js, css, etc.) under the public folder. Here, I also have a wordpress blog under the "blog" folder. There's an empty test folder too The Problem When I go to mydomain.com/blog, I get redirected to http://www.theredpin.com/blog (correctly), then to http://www.theredpin.com/blog/ (just with an extra / at end), finally to http://theredpin.com/blog/ -- and we're back where we started. The loop continues. What I don't understand is why would wordpress try to remove the www? I'm guessing it's wordpress because my empty test folder acts just fine! PLEASE HELP. I"M REALLY DESPERATE :( Thank you very much Other things that happen: When I go to mydomain.com, i correctly get redirected to www.mydomain.com When I go to www.mydomain.com, i correctly stay where I am When I go to www.mydomain.com/test or mydomain.com/test, behaviour is correct. Setup So my .htaccess file does the following: If there's no www., then add it and do a 301 redirect.
