I'm using a Mac.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for muting the mic during a call?
I can't find one, and I often need to toggle mute/unmute.
Clicking the button on the Skype interface is very inconvenient :(
Hi,
I just got a laptop from a friend. The CD/DVD drive is not present in "My Computer"! But the tray comes out when I press the button and everything.
I remember long time ago, enabling it by changing some registry value, but I forgot which one.
Can someone help me enable my CD/DVD drive?
Thanks.
[P.S. I have administrator privileges]
I need to write a technical document in Microsoft Word, with source code samples sprinkled throughout the text.
Is there any way, without leaving Microsoft Word (maybe a plugin?), to format the source code snippets within the document in the same easy way that SuperUser.com provides - a little button that defines everything as code and formats it appropriately?
I have antivirus service (Kaspersky) that occasionally becomes unresponsive to the normal stop/stop gui interface provided by said vendor. I would like to find a way to kill the service for a restart without rebooting, however all attempts I have tried result in failure with an 'Access is Denied' error. These include:
Services Control Panel (grayed out stop button)
Task Manager
Killing Process Explorer Killing
command line net and sc stopping
runas with domain admin using net stop
Some details include:
Machine: Windows Vista
Service Type: 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
Service State: 4 Running (NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN)
I have been using Windows 8 x64 Developers Preview as my primary OS on my laptop.
Unfortunately I have been unable to enable hibernate (tried through registry and through powercfg.cpl). The closest I have got is that I was able to enable hibernate on pressing of power button, but that just turns of screen and keeps everything else running, I have to force shutdown to do anything.
Do you know how I can get hibernate to work on my Dell Studio 17?
recently I found a video on the net ( a .mp4 file), and when I had it on my computer with Windows7, I noticed its thumbnail was not the average windows 7 video thumbnail (which looks like a piece of video film with a random picture from the movie), but a custom thumbnail! Looking in the file properties did not help find the correct button to change the thumbnail...so I just wonder how he did it! Here is a picture:
left: the custom thumbnail, right: the average thumbnail...
I was watching a video on youtube, then I hit ctrl-w on the wrong window by mistake, and now I'm having a a hard time finding the video again. I hit the 'like' button so is there a list of the videos that I like anywhere?
I'm downloading something from mediafire.com. but there's lots of pop-ups everytime I click on the download button. Is there a firefox extension which blocks pop-up?
Given a floor-plan, which is too big for any screen, even if it is a 17" one, how can I show it online like a map? It would need further functionality that a browser alone does not have (just zoom in/out the entire image won't do the trick). The image will be breaked down into smaller jpgs, so the user will not have to download the whole floorplan at once.It will need some zoom in/zoom out button, and some way or bookmarking position (x,y). open-source solutions prefered.
My HP Pavillion entertainment PC dv2000 does not boot up.
When I press the power button it turns and reads the CD and all the lights turn up, but does not go into boot mode.
What should I do? How do I troubleshoot a PC that won't even boot.
I had many programs opened and was typing a message in my web browser and suddenly a window asking me something popped up. I think I was in the middle of typing the word "for" but whatever button I hit seemed to be the confirmation to shutdown the computer. Is there a way to find which program caused this and prevent it in the future? I have a hunch it was JDownloaders fault.
I'm using Windows 7.
In Ubuntu some applications can be set to minimize instead of exit on close. For example, Empathy minimizes to the system tray (mail icon) when the close button is pressed in the application window. How do I make Evolution do this as well?
Essentially I would like to have Evolution hidden in the system tray instead of having to re-launch it every ten minutes to check for new messages (or leave it open and clutter the taskbar).
IT is a small area within the normal icons area on desktop of Windows 7 64bits version. It looks normal but when I try to click on it, it would have no response. If I move a folder on this area, then I cannot click on the folder. Even when there is nothing over there, when I click on it then it would not have any response like there should be a manual after clicking rightbutton. What could be the problem?
Iam running Linux Mint on my laptop and i have some (serious) problems with Google Chrome.Randomly Chrome becomes totally unresponsive and iam not able to do anything, except restart the system from the power button.I think it's not an issue with system load and/or RAM,because if i for example open lot of "heavy" programs everything seems to work quite fine. When i only run Chrome with not many tabs at random times it freezes the whole system. The weird thing is that Chrome is not heavily loaded with tabs or extensions.I can't figure out what is causing this problem.Any suggestion?Thank you in advance.
I'd really like to use chrome on my netbook, but I can't change the settings because the resolution is 1024*600 on Windows 7.
Is there any workaround? I tried the move window command with keyboard thinking that I could move the window up out of the screen enough for the ok button to appear, but the window always snaps back to screen so I can't press ok to save my settings...
Almost every time I want to use my netbook, it's un-suspended itself because the button is too easy to press.
Is there some way to tell Ubuntu (Netbook Remix 10.04) NOT to un-suspend if the lid's closed?
What is the best app for supporting multiple monitors in Windows 7? Ultra mon was perfect in Vista and XP but I don't think it works with Windows 7 yet. The main features I'm looking for are:
Taskbar for each monitor with only the apps that are running there. This might not be doable based on how the Windows 7 taskbar works now.
A button next to Minimize to send the window to the other monitor
Separate wallpapers for each monitor
In the advanced TCP/IP settings of a VPN connection, i found a checkbox labeled with "Disable class based route addition". The checkbox is only enabled as long as "Use default gateway on remote network" is switched off.
What is "Disable class based route addition" good for?
Detailed instructions to find the settings:
Open Properties of VPN connection
Go to Networking tab
Open Properties of "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" (and/or TCP/IPv6)
Click "Advanced..." Button
Change to "IP Settings" tab
Here you can find the checkboxes mentioned above

It looks like a popular question but it's just the opposite.
When I visit a site in Firefox 15 I have two different behaviours when:
Pressing enter in the address bar
Pressing F5 or the refresh button
If I look in the network console I can see that F5 does a lot more requests, most of them about cached resources and with a 304-Not Modified answer.
Is there's any shortcut to make a quick refresh? Just like pressing enter on the address bar.
In MS Word, there is an option to choose the pasting behavior between the same application and different applications. It's under the Office button-word options-advanced.
However I don't see the same option for Powerpoint. Is there one available? I hate it when they don't make it consistent between apps.
the volume from my windows 7 computer lowers automatically.
Regarding the several "similar questions" that have been posted to SU.com before, they have never been properly answered.
Questions for reference:
Windows 7 lowering volume without my consent
Windows 7 lowers applications' volume automatically
My communications button has already been set to "do nothing". Yet a louder sounding program still insists on lowering down other application's volumes.
I fight for the equality of all programs on my PC, help me out please :(
Hi,
in Excel, how can one filter and just show on the WORKSHEET rows that follow some criteria, for instance, rows that have the value "1" in the second column?
In case it can be done, can I add this action somehow to a button on the toolbar? I use Excel for Mac 2008
Thanks
i have this weird problem that i'm not sure is specific to me, but more of a windows 7 or Lenovo laptop, so any help would be appreciable.
the problem is as follows:
Whenever i use skype, msn or any other thing that make noise, the speakers are muted automatically and i need to press the mute/unmute button to re-enable the sound.
Does anyone know what can i do to disable windows 7 from doing it?
Thanks.
