• Is there a diff utility that allows you to exclude columns?

  For example, I have a text file, each line is a long string. I want to exclude 2 "segments" of this string, say columns 1-7 and 20-22. So the bottom 2 lines below would be a match: 123456789012345678901234567890 ------------------------------ xxxxxxxAAAAAAAAAAAAxxxBBBBBBBB yyyyyyyAAAAAAAAAAAAyyyBBBBBBBB I know WinMerge has a "IgnoreColumns" plugin but I have never go this working. In this example I would rename it IgnoreColumns_1-7, 20-22.dll, select it in the plugins menu, and choose "Pre-Differ." but it has never worked. I am going to be comparing huge files that I don't want to modify. I'm not opposed to stream editing them in the comparison with sed or something like that, but I would prefer not to modify the actual files. I have not chose to feed sed to diff yet just because I was hoping for for a more visual view of the data.

• Paste a list of dates in format of "mm/dd/yy" to iWork-Numbers

  I have trouble to paste a list of strings in the format of 'mm/dd/yy' into iWork-Numbers. For example, I have a list of strings(text in VIM): 04/01/10 04/03/10 04/13/10 I copy those strings and then paste into my iWork-Numbers worksheet. The result will be: 2004-01-10 2004-03-10 04/13/10 It looks like that Numbers (mac workseet application in iWork) tries to convert the first two digits into year, then the next two into month if less than 12 and last two digits to a day, for the first two rows. For the third(04/13/10), since the middle two digits are 13 and cannot be a month, then this row is pasted as it is (actually it is what I need). Is there any way to paste whatever as they are, without any "smart date conversion"? Do I have to change settings in Numberers or Mac OS's System preference?

• How can I rip a DVD but merge/join episodes

  Some background. I have the Pink Panther Collection, they have about 30 episodes on each DVD. Now I want to watch this on my $MobileDevice. So I went and converted it to m4v or avi. This of course went splendid with both Handbrake and AutoGK but the problem is that I want ONE file per DVD, both Handbrake and AutoGK creates one file per episode. So here finally is my question. Does anyone know how to persuade Handbrake or AutoGK to create one video file with all the episodes? Or can anyone recommend another (free/cheep) tool for the job? Oh and no cheating by telling me to join the files after conversion. I have never found a video joiner that did not disappoint me (usually bad audio sync).

After spending a lot of time searching for this, I thought that some SuperUser gurus might know the answer :) I'm searching for an open source application to compute an FFT, that could: * Import a list of points from a text file (in any format, I could write conversion scripts if needed), for example 0,1; 1,2; 4,5 * Compute the associated discrete transform, and output the list of coefficients Ideally, it would also display the plot and the associated fourier decomposition on the same graph, to allow comparison, but this is not absolutely needed.   I'm a new VS user. I've received some sample C++ projects working with a 3rd party API. They were saved in VS2012 format, but I have VS 2013. After conversion I find that there is an API specific macro defined in the project properties in the "Linker|General|Additional Library Directories" category. If I click on 'edit' I can replace the macro with an actual path, but how do I establish what the macro points to? In other words, how does one create a macro usable in multiple projects?

  I am trying to get munin to notify me via email. I have configured munin and it reports critical and warning values but no alerts are being sent neither is any script being called. Can you please help me out with this? • Convert from port numbers to protocol names in wireshark

  i'm simply using tshark -r botnet.pcap -T fields -E separator=';' -e ip.src -e tcp.srcport -e ip.dst -e tcp.dstport '(tcp.flags.syn == 1 and tcp.flags.ack == 0)' to see the all initiated "legal TCP" connections. However, i need the destination port number conversion to "http" "netbios" etc. i'm not using -n option, but still i get: 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;80 This is what i'm trying to get: 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;http or 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;80;http is better option for me. any idea from tshark users? or any other tool suggestions?

• Replace an IP address with it's whois using bash

  I have a traffic log similar to this "page visited" for xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at 2013-10-30 and I would like to replace the ip address with the result of it's whois lookup. I can export the ip addresses to a separate file and then do a whois on each line, but im struggling to combine them all together. Ideally i'd like to replace the ip address in the same string and print the new string to a new file. So it would look like "page visited" for example.com at 2013-10-30 Can anyone help Here's what I have so far grep -o '[0-9]\{1,3\}\.[0-9]\{1,3\}\.[0-9]\{1,3\}\.[0-9]\{1,3\}' clean_cites.txt > iplist.txt for i in `cat iplist.txt` do OUTPUT=$(geoiplookup -f /usr/share/GeoIP/GeoIPOrg.dat $i) echo $i,$OUTPUT >> visited.txt done Like I said,this produces a separate file with a list of ip addresses and their relevant hostnames, so I either need to search for the ip address in file and and replace it with the text in file b (which will give the ip address and hostname) or replace the ip address in place. • pdf creation software, for docx and odt

  Ok, I have a fairly large collection of docx and odt files. Minutes from meetings etc. Now I want to convert them to pdfs for distrobution. and also into one combined pdf. At the momement I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 (Pro iirc). and on another machine I'm using foxit pdf printer. To do this I have to print them each individually to pdfs. and then I can combine them with Acrobat, cos acrobat doesn't support conversion stright from docx or odt to pdf - only via printing. Now this is annoying if you have to do it on a regular basis, since i don't keep the pdfs around (I have the orignals source controlled :-D) cos they go out of date pretty quick as I often have to go back and modify old versions (like ridiculously often). e Eg When I find out I've got something in the minutes wrong or I want to add more context for clarifaction. Anyone got a better solution?

• What's the most efficient method for moving and transcoding HD video from my Tivo to iTunes on OS X

  I've got a Tivo with some HD recordings on it. I'd like to move those files over to my Mac and add them into iTunes. I'd like the move and transcoding to be as painless as possible, and I'd like to preserve the quality of the original HD recording. I've got a network connection to the Tivo and can move the files over but the real problem seems to be transcoding. I tried using MEncoder to transcode to H.264 but the quality really suffered. I was doing the conversion at 10mbps so I'm not sure why the quality was so bad, lots of artifacting, etc.

However, if the length of the 'var1-var2...' string is 257 characters or less and subsequently followed by a slash the length of the remaining url may be any length. How does one overcome this limit?

• Eclipse Helios on OS X Snow Leopard crashes frequently when editing certain PHP files

  I use Eclipse Helios (Eclipse Platform: 3.6.0.I20100608-0911, Eclipse IDE for PHP Developers: 1.3.0.20100617-0520) all the time on OS X (Snow Leopard), and it seems I only run into trouble whenever I'm editing a PHP file that's part of the WordPress blogging framework. When I move my cursor to a variable or function name, that often triggers the beach ball of death. I suspect Eclipse is trying to look up that variable/function and for some reason that causes an endless loop. Sometimes it's not just variables or functions. Just today I was trying to replace all occurrences of a quoted string. Every time I clicked "Replace All", the program would freeze immediately after the string was replaced and the text cursor was moved to the replaced position. I think the moving of the text cursor is important, because I got the same result when I searched for the string (thus moving the cursor), but NOT when I searched for a nonexistent string. I tried disabling everything in my preferences related to marked occurrences, hovering, code assistance, etc. Nothing helps. I use Eclipse for all my projects, and I find that it's only WordPress projects where this happens. It's a hybrid of HTML and PHP, so Eclipse has to do both HTML and PHP validation. I wondered if the HTML validation had something to do with it, so I created a new file, copied the contents over, and messed with the doctype element. I found that if I replaced the well-formed XHTML 1.0 Strict doctype element with a generic doctype (as such: <!DOCTYPE html>), then I did not crash the program just by moving the cursor around. I set all HTML validation rules to "Ignore", but it still didn't solve my problems. For now, I'm just going to echo the doctype using PHP instead of entering it literally. That seems to prevent crashes. I notice that when I move the cursor around the document, Eclipse displays the "xpath" to my current location at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes there's a delay while it figures out my current path. Perhaps when it's validating against the Strict doctype, it has problems quickly calculating the xpath as I move the cursor around? Maybe it has a stack overflow that causes it to crash.

  i'm simply using tshark -r botnet.pcap -T fields -E separator=';' -e ip.src -e tcp.srcport -e ip.dst -e tcp.dstport '(tcp.flags.syn == 1 and tcp.flags.ack == 0)' to see the all initiated "legal TCP" connections. However, i need the destination port number conversion to "http" "netbios" etc. i'm not using -n option, but still i get: 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;80 This is what i'm trying to get: 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;http or 128.3.45.128;62259;208.233.189.150;80;http is better option for me. any idea from tshark users? or any other tool suggestions?

• sql and web encoding problem

  Guys, I've got an encoding problem I believe. I have upgraded from phpBB2 to phpBB3. The old databases were in latin1, the new ones have utf8 encoding. Already during the upgrade process some rows of the DB were only read partly into the new version, because of strange characters as it turned out. When I use PHP's mb_convert_encoding() function to convert those strings to UTF8 they end up e.g. as 0x0093, i.e. they must have been some kind of double quotes. Even after doing this conversion, they still show up as 0x0093 in the browser (the squares with 0093 in them when the browser does not know what to display). Can someone explain the problem here? I'm a little confused and afraid I don't see all the dependencies that need to work to have the correct encodings and the correct display thereof...

  How could I resize or reprocess bunch of videofiles (tv show series) to be able write it on DVD? Total size of all files should be less or equal to the max size of dvd - 4.7G. Is there any kind of program which allows conversion with total filesize adjustement up to defined limit? Is there way to be sure quality will not suffer noticeably after video files adjustments? Maybe there is a software which allows adjusting quality and creating DVD video disk with nifty menu automatically? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  I am trying to monitor the temp sensors on a server, and plot them using Cacti. I have lm-sensors installed and working correctly.   I have an SSL certificate in .p7b format that I need to convert to .pfx. If I try this through the windows certificate managment the option to expert as a .pfx is disabled. Trying with openssl I have found the following two commands to do the conversion: openssl pkcs7 -print_certs -in certificate.p7b -out certificate.cer openssl pkcs12 -export -in certificate.cer -inkey privateKey.key -out certificate.pfx -certfile CACert.cer but I'm not sure what key to use for teh esecond command, or what certificate CACert.cer refers to. How can I convert this key to .pfx format?

• Can I temporarily leave other roles active when converting a 2008 R2 server to a hyper-v host?

  I currently have a Windows 2008 R2 box that I want to convert to a hyper-v host. Currently I have the following running on it: File Services, Web Server (IIS), and Sql Server 2008 R2 with a few different DBs. In the long term, I'd like to move all of those over to the VMs that will be created. However, in the short term I'd like to leave them running on the server. Are there any complications/problems with leaving them running on the hyper-v server for a day or two? How long will those services typically go down during the addition of the hyper-v role? Right now my plan is to back up everything, enable the hyper-v role, set up VMs, and migrate stuff off of the host. However, if there is a good probability that something may cease to function I might need to migrate everything over to a temporary host before doing the conversion.

• Recovering OST file without profile

  We have a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and offer this solution to many customers. Recently, a customer had his personal Exchange server crash (which is what made him our customer). He called some technician to see if he could repair his server before calling us, but this said tech wasn't able to do anything for them. Now that all his mailbox are on our server, he would like to transfer his old emails over to the new profile, but the tech deleted all profiles on the client machines while trying to repair his Exchange server. So my customer still has the OST files but they are not related to any profiles. Is there any way to re-attach them to a profile, or to convert them into PST files that he could then import into his new profile? The only thing I found were third party software that could to the conversion, but I am wondering if Microsoft has any tools that could re-attach the OST to a new profile. I have also tried the scanpst.exe and scanost.exe to no avail. Thank you

However, no matter what values I enter in the fields; the result is always: array(2) { ["test"]=> string(0) "" ["action"]=> string(2) "Go" } string(16) "test=&action=Go&" Somehow, the array named test is emptied, the "action" variable does make it through. I've used the Live HTTP Headers extension for Firefox to check whether the POST fields get submitted, and they do. The relevant information from Live HTTP Headers (with a, b and c filled in as values in the textboxes): Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Content-Length: 51 test%5B1%5D=a&test%5B2%5D=b&test%5B3%5D=c&action=Go Does anybody have any idea as to why this is happening? I'm freaking out on this one, it has cost me so much time already... EDIT: We've tried this on different servers, on Windows boxes it does work, on the Ubuntu server with PHP version 5.2.4 (with Suhosin), it doesn't. It even works on a different server, also with Ubuntu and the same PHP version, also with Suhosin installed.
