    Hello I'm looking for a program to windows 7 that will work as a printer but it will save it to a file. Microsoft Word - Printer - Save it to "hello.pdf" on the desktop. I working on a application that will use a printer, but i don't have any printer to test with. And save to .xps files do not work, because u need to write a filename. Hope that you understand!   • file corruption on read/write 2.6.32-22-server (happens across many kernels)

    Hi Guys, I'm having an issue where after the server has been up for a period of time (~week/few days) the server will start reading corrupt data. For instance when I run a sha1sum of a file after a fresh boot it remains the same. However after a while I will start to get segfaults and from then on whenever I read this file I get a different sha1sum. I don't believe it's the software raid however as this affects files also hosted on non-raid partitions so I don't know.

  • OS X Snow Leopard, change file permissions on copy

    I work with OS X, Snow Leopard and need to allow users to make copies of files (templates) located in a read-only repository for subsequent editing. The repository is located on a separate physical drive mounted to the OS X boot volume. As this is a shared computer in a school environment, all users access the machine via a single login ("user_local"). Whether using POSIX permissions or ACLs, the use case requires the file permissions to change from "read" to "read write" as they get copied to the "user_local" home directory. Googling around has not yielded anything that would indicate that this is possible via the Snow Leopard permission system. Question 1: Is this in fact possible via the permission system? If so, how? Question 2: If not possible, how would one go about solving this problem? I imagine this to be a fairly common use case so there must be a workable solution for it out there. Thanks.

But when i tested it, i dont get the path of the file requested to open using the application, instead i got the "psn_0_151589". I checked it for itunes, textedit, xcode and other applications.     I have an Excel spreadsheet file that has 5 or so columns and hundreds of lines. I need to convert this (export these data) to an XML file. I'm interested in three of the columns and they correspond to these XML tags, where info1 can be followed by info2, info3, etc... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <list> <info1> <id>111</id> <value>222</value> <des>333</des> </info1> </list> If possible, I would like to avoid building this XML manually. It wouldn't be too much trouble to rearrange the Excel file such that the three columns I'm interested in were in their own file. But then I would need to export those data into an XML file of the above format. Any ideas?

  • Cannot change default application association of certain file types

    After associating my MP3 files with MPlayer i can no longer change that association using the Choose default program... dialogue, the Always use this [...] Checkbox is always greyed out (Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program does not let me change it either). That also happened for MP4s but not for MKVs for example, and if i associate my MP3s with other applications like VLC it does not get blocked. I would really like to know why that is and if i can avoid this beforehand (thankfully i know ways to fix it afterwards already). Edit: Another obervation: The blocking programs (i managed to block it with an association to Visual Studio as well) do not appear in the Recommended Programs of the open-with-dialogue (And the explorer said: "The current program is not recommended, but i won't let you change it, ha!"). Edit: A screenshot as requested: As you can see on the top left (if you know the icon of MPlayer), the file is currently associated with MPlayer. Edit: Ways to fix it (Note: This question is not about fixing it) Using the Default Programs Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Default Programs, select WMP, Choose defaults for this program, check .mp3 This should reassociate the files with WMP and you can create a new association in the explorer. Using the registry (As always, keep your hands off it unless you know what you are doing or if you are fine with accidentally breaking your system) HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > FileExts > .mp3 Here you could for example clean up the open-with-list, and the current default program seems to be saved here as well in the key UserChoice, there you can change the ProgId string to another application, you can associate it with WMP by entering WMP11.AssocFile.MP3 or just pick another application right away. You may need to mess with permissions on the key though, if you cannot change the ProgId value.

  • OpenSSH SFTP server with chroot() + File Permissions

    I am currently setting up an SFTP server but there is one detail I can't seem to figure out. When I add a user, I would like him to connect using his client and be able to write in his "root dir" right away. My Match case for the SFTP-users group currently has ChrootDirectory set as "/home/%u", and inside that directory I have to have a subdirectory owned by the user, while /home/%u itself is owned by root. Next to that, the "root dir" also has a couple files, .bashrc to name one. Is it possible to put these files somewhere else, remove them, or at least make them invisible to the user? Thanks EDIT: One more little thing I'd like to implement is for one account to have read (or rw, not sure yet) access to all other users' home directories. What is the easiest way to implement this?

  • lwp-rget changes file format automatically to .bin?

    Im trying to recursively get an html page to get everything that's there and save it to my directory. Lwp-rget from perl allows me to do this but I'm having the problem that its getting all the files and changing them from .rpm, .xml, .html, etc to .bin. I've been trying to maybe use the --keepext=application/xml or any type but it continues to save the file as .bin. Any way I can stop that auto formatting? Thanks.

    In 2008 server the File resource manager can be set up to alert users when they go over their quota etc. This is all configured however the email notifications are not working. They have been configured but the event log shows that the user does not have permission to send to the exchange server. There isnt an option to chosse who to send the email from.     I believe that I have the permissions set correctly but I can't write to a directory.   • Windows 7 file sharing password protecting or making stuff available to just me

    Even with the new Homegroup feature I'm still finding the way Windows deals with folder sharing utterly baffling. Here's what I want to do. I have two computers, a PC Desktop and a laptop. I also live in a shared flat with other computer users. I have set up a Homegroup and a Workgroup on the desktop and joined them on the laptop and in the home group I have shared video, music and pictures. This is so that anyone on the network can view pictures and listen to music etc. But I want my Documents folder from my desktop to only be available to me on my laptop and not to anyone else that may be on the network. The Homegroup only allows (from what I can gather from the baffling array of options) sharing with everyone or no one. Is it possible to only allow the laptop to access the documents folder on the desktop? The user name and password are the same on both computers.

  • Locked out by changing file permissions

    I just locked my root account (and all other accounts if it matters) completely out of the RHEL 5.4 by changing permissions on every file to 400. Now I have "Permission denied" on any command that I try to run, including chmod itself. Any idea on how to recover? The only access I have to the server is via terminal or SSH. (If anyone cares how it happened, I was running a hardening script and one of the lines was supposed to change permission on some config files in /etc directory. It has couple of variables that had not been set, so the command essentially evaluated to chmod -R 0400 /* Ouch! This is sure a great lesson on checking the scripts even more carefully in the future but what can I do now?

But are there any programs that will allow me to have a filters like on the side of my desktop which I can click to only who certain file types. So like on the right of the desktop is a list of filetypes which have files on my desktop and I can click them and it will only shows files on my desktop (not in explorer windows) of that filetype.

    I wonder if there is an utility to read and print a (binary) file, shifted by some amount of bits (i mean, it should accept amounts, which are not divisible by 8). .. something like dd (and its skip option), but bit-wise, instead of byte-wise. (If you think that there is no such thing, and are going to implement it here, please use C.. i have my own bit-shifting thing for strings, written in Python, but it is surely relatively slow as hell)
