• New vs Clone Git in Eclipse with EGit

  I'm not sure I have either my new repo or clone repo workflow, or both, setup correctly. When I create a new project I create a repo on github, can't clone from it as it's empty so I create a new project which goes into my workspace and then the git init runs on the workspace copy. So I end up with everything in workspace\project-name. However, when I clone from github first I need to clone the repo and this goes into my default git directory (C:\git) as git\cloned-project-name, I then need to import this Git repo as a project into my workspace and I end up with workspace\cloned-project-name effectively duplicating the project folder in the git area. I've tried to clone to workspace\cloned-project-name but then it asks to import the git project and if I try to use workspace\cloned-project-name again, it errs. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Matt.

  Will the desktop version of Unity, scheduled to appear in 11.04, be programmed using Qt? I ask this in relation to Matt Zimmerman's blog posting of several days ago, where he intimated that Qt was the more pragmatic choice for an SDK to get coders more involved. As a corollary, it would make sense if the whole desktop were in Qt, which would also make it possible to do a lot more beautiful effects, and make a more visually engrossing desktop experience. In any event, please elaborate on the future role of Qt in the Ubuntu desktop.

  SOA Administration Book I have just received a copy of the “Oracle SOA Suite 11g Administrator's Handbook” so as soon as I have read it I will let you know what I think.  In the meantime the first thing that struck me was the author credentials, although I have never met either of them as I remember, I have read Admeds blog postings and they are a great community resource, so immediately I am well disposed towards the book.  Similarly Arun is an employee of my friend and co-author Matt Wright, and I have heard good things about him from Rubicon Red people. A first glance at the table of contents looks encouraging, I particularly like their approach to performance tuning where they give a clear concise explanation of the knobs they are using. More when I have read more.

In some ways this was an easier book to write than the Developers Guide, the hard bit was deciding what recipes to include.  Once we had decided that the writing of the book was pretty straight forward.   I am not sure if this is the best place for the question, but I am not sure where else to ask. Background I am a contract developer and have just been asked to provide a general liability policy for my next gig. In 6-7 years this has never been asked of me. Question Is this common? If so, can anyone recommend a good underwriter that focuses on what we do as contract software developers? I realize that Google could help me find underwriters but it won't give me unbiased public opinion about which companies actually understand what we do and factor that into the price of the policy.   Possible Duplicate: What is the best stucture of SEO friendly URL? I am working on a job board, and i'm trying to figure out a good design for URL structure. Some things that I have found through research: 100 - 150 Chars long is ideal 3-5 words in your url, according to Matt Cutts Use .htaccess to force clean urls Do not duplicate data (important) Clean and precise, describing the content Use hyphens On the homepage, I try to detect the users location based on IP, but this isn't always accurate, and not always reliable. So until they put in their city/location, I can't always use this structure but this is potentially work-able. For Searching, a form post to a results page: domain.com/jobs/[city]/[search] ie: domain.com/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ OR domain.com/search/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ or do I remove the word JOBS and just use Search. I trying to keep good search terms in the URL, but also keep it clean and concise. Can someone give me some feedback and thoughts to 'why'...

  I finished University around 4 years ago double degree in Software Eng/Comp Sci. Got my first job at a startup in my final year, was with them for 2.5 years then started my own business. So far everything is going great, lots of clients and stead work etc, but coming right out of uni and into a start up I never had any form or senior software engineer guiding my work or suggesting improvements etc... Whats the best way for me to improve & learn more? Books? MS Exams? Other? I develop in C#, ASP.NET/MVC. Update The problem isn't really with releasing products, I've released quite a few which are up and running with customers happy. It's more with quality of code, best practices, how do I know something I am code is correct, it may work but there may be ways of coding it much more efficiently or by adhering to some kind of standard Cheers for any responses!   I installed 12.04 on my wife's Dell laptop to replace 10.04. The code for the Broadcom drivers is broken and I am a user, not a coder. Does any available release of Ubuntu have the drivers in place so I can install and run and get my life back after days of thrashing around. • Fujitsu B6220 laptop, sometimes my desktop freezes upon resume from standby

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my Fujitsu Lifebook B6220 laptop just before 12.04 was released. I can not remember if I had this issue with Ubuntu 11.10 as I updated the install to 12.04 about a week after 12.04 came out. My problem is that sometimes upon resume from standby my desktop is frozen. The keyboard, touch pad, and touchscreen work, but there is no response from the desktop. I can ctrl-alt-f2 and log in and then from there I just reboot the computer. This happens about 50% of the time when I resume from standby but I have not noticed a distinct pattern. I have thought about reinstalling 12.04, since I upgraded 11.10 to 12.04 instead of a fresh install. But I have customized my laptop a lot and I would prefer to avoid reinstalling it, I'm not even sure if that would fix it. Anyone have a idea what might be the problem? If I should submit this as a bug, could someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks, Matt

  Hi, What's the best way for me to call a WCF Service from within a Quartz .Net job? Is the easiest way to write a separate exe that spins up a WCF proxy and have that exe called from within the job? This seems like it would work but is a bit convoluted. It'd be nicer if I could somehow have the Job have the proxy injected in someway. Thanks, Matt
