• Having trouble applying style to SVG using JavaScript upon object creation

  Hi, I have a function which creates an SVG text object using JavaScript. As soon as the object is created, I want it to have the style attribute which in CSS would be text-anchor: left. Currently, it doesn't work. I have tried many variations, and I also read that when using styles in JavaScript you must remove any '-' dashes and format the attribute name in camel casing (is this true?).   I'm trying to create an index on a view and it keeps failing, I'm pretty sure its b/c I'm using an alias for the column. Not sure how or if I can do it this way. Below is a simplified scenario.   I'm trying to understand the factory design pattern. I don't understand why it's good to have a middleman between the client and the product (object that the client wants). example with no factory: $mac = new Mac(); example with a factory: $appleStore = new AppleStore(); $mac = $appleStore->getProduct('mac'); How does the factory pattern decouple the client from the product? Could someone give an example of a future code change that will impact on example 1 negative, but positive in example 2 so I understand the importance of decoupling? Thanks.

  I am making a network call in an AsyncTask, but the problem i am facing is the amount of time it is taking to start the doInBackground method. Here is a part of my code: button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Log.d("Temp:",System.currentTimeMillis()+""); new Move().execute(); /*some other logic } } And my AsyncTask is: private class Move extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void> { @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... temp) { Log.d("start:",System.currentTimeMillis()+""); gson.fromJson(Web.Request.get(some_URL),Void.class); Log.d("end:",System.currentTimeMillis()+""); return null; } } These are the logs i got: 32658-998/com.example.game D/temp:? 1408923006159 32658-998/com.example.game D/start:? 1408923035163 32658-998/com.example.game D/end:? 1408923035199 So actually it took almost 29 secs to reach the first line in doInBackground method, where as it took just 36 ms to finish the network call. I tried it many times, the time taken is almost in the same order. Is it possible to start the AsyncTask immediately? Or is there any other way to solve this problem.(other than a running a simple thread?) Thank you :)

I think about first run of web site and redirect on welcome page, when controller creates database from model. But I doubt about details: 1. Where? In HttpModule, but request of any image or css will check that database exist. In custom RouteHandler, but then anybody need to know that need to use this handler when to add route. In BaseController, but then code will look like SomeController(..., IDatabase database) : base(database). 2. When? Better create database on first run by any url or may be on deployment of site (additional tool which create ObjectContext and invoke CreateDatabase)? Thanks.

• Normalize FFT magnitude to imitate WMP

  So, I've been working on a little visualizer for sound files, just for fun. I basically wanted to imitate the "Scope" and "Ocean Mist" visualizers in Windows Media Player. Scope was easy enough, but I'm having problems with Ocean Mist. I'm pretty sure that it is some kind of frequency spectrum, but when I do an FFT on my waveform data, I'm not getting the data that corresponds to what Ocean Mist displays. The spectrum actually looks correct, so I knew there was nothing wrong with the FFT. I'm assuming that the visualizer runs the spectrum through some kind of filter, but I have no idea what it might be. Any ideas?

• SoundChannel object plays small portion after being stopped and played again

  SoundChannel object is stopped and played again. When played again it plays small portion from the previous position and suddenly jumps back to the beginning. It doesn't play the whole sound before looping. This happens only once, then it loops normally. • What language/API to use for a standalone live-input audio visualizer app?

  I develop with Actionscript and was glad to see that AIR 2.0 was going to give access to mic input data. I planned to use this to create a visualizer set to the tempo of the incoming live audio. After doing a few days of google research it seems unlikely that it will be possible to analyze the data of the mic input in Flash/AIR. If anyone has ideas on how I can achieve this in AIR please let me know. (I'm open to workarounds.) That being said, I don't want to give up on the idea so I'm interested in suggestions for other language/API to use. My requirements for the app are: Run on OSX Two windows - one that can go fullscreen while the other(controller GUI) stays put Able to access live mic input data I've done reading on FFT and understand what needs to be done on the sound side so no need to help with that.
