• Nginx + php-fpm "504 Gateway Time-out" error with almost zero load (on a test-server)

  After debugging for 6-hours - I am giving this up :| We have a nginx+php-fpm+mysql in LAN with almost 100 wordpress (created and used by different designers/developers all working on test wordpres setup) We are using nginx without any issues from long. Today, all of a sudden - nginx started returning "504 Gateway Time-out" out of the blue... As mentioned, this a test-server in LAN, CPU load is never crossed 0.10 and memory usage is also below 25% (System has 2GB RAM and ubuntu-server installed) So if you find its time-confusing to help me out, please atleast drop a hint. • Where is Amazon Linux AMI Test Page EC2?

  I have set up my websites as directories directly under /var/www/html/ and they are working just fine (the websites are mapped to virtual hosts). So, this is mainly out of curiosity for the moment. Furthermore, being able to customise this might bring some benefits in the future e.g. branding the elastic IPs my computer use temporarily. Notes I can always create a index.html page under /var/www/html/ and modify it but that's not my goal here. I can also map the elastic IP address to a directory /var/www/html/default/ and do my stuffs there but that is not also my goal here My goal is the find the Amazon Linux AMI test page I've tried running Linux command to find it but it takes too long obviously

• ls -l freezes terminal locally and remotely

  I've been reading other SF threads regarding ls not returning results or freezing and stalling terminal sessions and it appears they usually the fault of network problems. My problem however, occurs both over remote SSH sessions but also if I am physically at the server itself... I just installed CentOS 5.4 on one of our servers. I'm setting up some rdiff-backup scripts and when I downloaded librsync and untared it, thats when I started seeing some weird behavior with ls -l. wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/librsync/files/librsync/0.9.7/librsync-0.9.7.tar.gz/download /tmp cd /tmp tar -xzf librsync-0.9.7.tar.gz Simple enough. To view the files in this directory I did this: ls results: librsync-0.9.7 librsync-0.9.7.tar.gz Now, if I ls -l, my terminal freezes. I have to re-ssh in to keep going. After reading SF threads, I thought it was network related. So I was extremely surprised to go sit down at the server itself and see the exact same thing happen... So its obviously not a network issues. Even if I ls /tmp/librsync-0.9.7, my terminal freezes just the same...   I have an interdependent collection of scripts in my ~/bin directory as well as a developed ~/.vim directory and some other libraries and such in other subdirectories. I've been versioning all of this using git, and have realized that it would be potentially very easy and useful to do development and testing of new and existing scripts, vim plugins, etc. using a cloned repo, and then pull the working code into my actual home directory with a merge. The easiest way to do this would seem to be to just change & export $HOME, eg cd ~/testing; git clone ~ home export HOME=~/testing/home cd ~ screen -S testing-home # start vim, write/revise plugins, edit scripts, etc. # test revisions However since I've never tried this before I'm concerned that some programs, environment variables, etc., may end up using my actual home directory instead of the exported one. Is this a viable strategy? Are there just a few outliers that I should be careful about? Is there a much better way to do this sort of thing?

For some reason when things get really slow between the ps3 and my computer (it's a wired connection through a switch), the wireless internet on completely different computer gets slow. I don't know what's causing what, but I don't know why there should be any correlation between internet speed on a wirelessly connected laptop and the LAN speed between a wired ps3 and computer.

  Hello I have just set up a DNS server for my domain example.org with 2 name servers ns1.example.org and ns2.example.org. I have attempted to set up a glue record for ns1 and ns2 at my registrar. It seems to work for now when I do a dig example.org but when I do a whois example.org it lists ns1.example.org and ns2.example.org but not their IP address which should be set up as a glue record. So I am wondering how do I check for the existence of a glue record? Do I do it with whois? I have seen .com and .net whois records that have both the domain name as well as the IP address for the name servers, is .org different? What's the proper way to test this? Thanks.

  How to check the LDAP connection from a client to server. I'm working on the LDAP authentication and this client desktop needs to authenticate via a LDAP server. I can SSH to the LDAP server using LDAP user but When in desktop login prompt, I can't login. It says Authentication failure. Client machine has Cent OS 6.3 and LDAP server has Cent OS 5.5 LDAP software is Openldap. LDAP servers logs doesn't even show any messages. So, how to test whether the client can successfully connect to LDAP or not.

  On the NIST website, there is a tool called sts (Statistical Test Suite) that allow us to rest the validity of a pseudo-random number generator based on a stream of bits in input. When running the program, there is two variables I am not sure to understand : the stream length and number of bitstream. Is the stream length the size of the file ? The number of bit inside ? The size of a bitstream ? Are the bitstreams subset of the whole file ? Chosen how ? Let say I have a text file containing 1,000,000 bits in ascii. What should be my arguments ? • External stereo receiver and speakers on desktop PC work during test but no other time

  I have a desktop PC running Windows 7. I have connected an external stereo receiver and speakers to it and everything works fine when I test it in the Realtek Audio Sound through the control panel. However, when I play a video or an audio CD, the stereo speakers do not work. I have line in, line out, and speakers connected to the receiver. I have been through the configure speakers portion also. Is there someplace else I need to configure?

  When looking for large new drives (= 1 TB) on newegg and the like, I note a number of reviews talking about drives being either D.O.A. or hitting the Click of Death (or even releasing the Magic Smoke) within a week or so of use. A portion of the reviews mention this phenomenon whether the drive in question is Western Digital or Hitachi or whatever. For those of you using Windows, what do you to: 1) Place a large initial stress on the drive to see if it can take it? For how long? 2) Test the drive afterwards (presumably with some sort of S.M.A.R.T. tool or others) to see if any negative changes have been noted? Note: This is one component of a larger plan for both high-availability and backups for my home data.

• recommendations for a lightweight linux distribution for a test server

  I'm planning on setting up a test server to experiment with some application servers (tomcat/jboss/...) and with some portals. Now the machine I've set aside for this is lightweight CPU/GPU wise(Atom D510, 4 gigabyte ram, 500 GiB hdd, onboard GPU). But it should suffice for most things, I'm more interested in the stability of JBoss/Tomcat for my purposes than the stability. However I'm having a bit of trouble picking an appropriate distribution size/performance/setup time wise/security wise since it seems I can't sneeze without another distribution popping up. I've been thinking about going for Fedora since I've read that that distribution has been optimized for Atom, but I'm not really familiar with it. My experience with Linux has mostly been limited to Ubuntu and some tinkering with puppylinux. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty using the command line. I'm not planning on starting a discussion per se, mostly the pros/cons that people have encountered with some distributions

• Is there a way for me to test my [closed]

  I have a home network with a cheap-o little router with a development server and a few devices hooked up to it. I am finding that backups of my server are taking FOREVER (a week for 60gb) running backups renders my internet connection useless from any other box int he house. I have maxed out the pipe to my house from the ISP (10down, 3up), but is there a way for me to test and see if my router is bottlenecking anything? I feel like 60gb backups shouldn't take this long so any help would be great!

• How to test which button is stuck

  My laptop's keyboard is prone to buttons sticking. The fix is to just press the same button again. Now when it is the letter/number keys are stuck, it's just a matter of putting the cursor in a text field, and seeing what characters appear. However, when it is one of the modifier keys, or tab, or enter or a few other buttons, it gets harder to tell which key is to blame. Trying to type can result in all sort of shortcuts being triggered. Is there anyway to test what input is being recieved? Also, I'm guessing this is a hardware issue, but if anyone knows of any possible causes/solutions it'd be appreciated. It's a Dell Studio 17, and the problem occurs under Windows and Linux.

  Occasionally I want to cd into a directory where my user does not have permission, so I resort to sudo. The obvious command sudo cd somedir doesn't work: $ sudo mkdir test $ sudo chmod go-rxw test $ ls -l drwx------ 2 root root [...snip...] test $ cd test -bash: cd: test: Permission denied $ sudo cd test sudo: cd: command not found Using sudo su works: $ sudo su # cd test Is it possible to make this into a one-liner? (Not a big deal, just idle curiosity :) The variations I tried didn't work: $ sudo "cd test" sudo: cd: command not found $ sudo -i cd test -bash: line 0: cd: test: No such file or directory $ sudo -s cd test The last one doesn't give an error, but it cd's within a new shell that exits by the end of the line, so it doesn't actually take me anywhere. Can someone enlighten me as to why this happens? Why is sudo cd not found, when for example sudo ls ... works fine?

• WPF CommandParameter is NULL first time CanExecute is called

  I have run into an issue with WPF and Commands that are bound to a Button inside the DataTemplate of an ItemsControl. The scenario is quite straight forward. The ItemsControl is bound to a list of objects, and I want to be able to remove each object in the list by clicking a Button. The Button executes a Command, and the Command takes care of the deletion. The CommandParameter is bound to the Object I want to delete. That way I know what the user clicked. A user should only be able to delete their "own" objects - so I need to do some checks in the "CanExecute" call of the Command to verify that the user has the right permissions. The problem is that the parameter passed to CanExecute is NULL the first time it's called - so I can't run the logic to enable/disable the command. However, if I make it allways enabled, and then click the button to execute the command, the CommandParameter is passed in correctly. So that means that the binding against the CommandParameter is working. The XAML for the ItemsControl and the DataTemplate looks like this: <ItemsControl x:Name="commentsList" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=SharedDataItemPM.Comments}" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Button Content="Delete" FontSize="10" Command="{Binding Path=DataContext.DeleteCommentCommand, ElementName=commentsList}" CommandParameter="{Binding}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> So as you can see I have a list of Comments objects. I want the CommandParameter of the DeleteCommentCommand to be bound to the Command object. So I guess my question is: have anyone experienced this problem before? CanExecute gets called on my Command, but the parameter is always NULL the first time - why is that? Update: I was able to narrow the problem down a little. I added an empty Debug ValueConverter so that I could output a message when the CommandParameter is data bound. Turns out the problem is that the CanExecute method is executed before the CommandParameter is bound to the button. I have tried to set the CommandParameter before the Command (like suggested) - but it still doesn't work. Any tips on how to control it. Update2: Is there any way to detect when the binding is "done", so that I can force re-evaluation of the command? Also - is it a problem that I have multiple Buttons (one for each item in the ItemsControl) that bind to the same instance of a Command-object? • SmartGWT Program not displaying getting wnd.isc.Browser is null

  When running my gwt program in GWT Development Mode it fails to display showing this error in the console: com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (TypeError): '$wnd.isc.Browser' is null or not an object I do not believe the error is due to my project setup. Other member of the team can compile fine. It is most likely some type of config problem on my end. I have re-checked out the project and still get the error. I am using the latest jdk 1.6.0_19 if that matters

• can ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance return null?

  I have this piece of code (or similar) in many of our views: private IEventAggregator eventAggregator; Constructor() { eventAggregator = ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance<IEventAggregator>(); ... } I read from this post that ServiceLocator.Current can throw NullReferenceException (bad thing on a constructor) but I was wondering if the GetInstance<() method can return null (or some other inconsistent object) making eventAggregator dangerous to use later in other methods. NOTE: I'm quite new to MVVM and WPF
