• Can I grant explicit Javascript methods to a different-host iframe?

  I'm thinking about a system in which I allow users to create Javascript-empowered widgets for other users to embed in their dashboard on my website. I'd like to limit these widgets fairly strictly, so each would exist as an iframe kept on its own unique hostname: the widget with ID #47 would be accessible at w47.widgets.example.com, for example. It would be helpful, for permission-granting dialogs and the like, to allow the widget to call very specific methods explicitly granted by the parent window, without authorizing the iframe to do whatever it likes with the parent frame on the user's behalf. Is it possible for a parent document to explicitly allow certain method calls to a child document on a different host?

• Child service not writing to event log

  I am having a very simple (but incredibly frustrating) issue with a parent service and the child service. Let's call the parent service "Service A" and the child "Service B". Both services reside on the same box. Using WCF Storm, when I send Service B a message, I see lots of entries in the event viewer for it. However, if I send a message to Service A, which calls Service B, I only see entries from Service A. So for some reason, the child logs are not written when the parent calls it, but if I call it myself, the logs do indeed show up, so I know it's not a problem with the logging or anything like that. Here is what I am using to write to the event log. // in some random static class private static EventLog el = new EventLog(); el.WriteEntry("In " + location + ", " + message); // params passed in Does anyone know why this is happening? And more importantly what I can do about it?

  I have a database table with parent child relationships between different rows. 1 parent can have any number of children. Children do not have children. I want to copy 'Message' from 'Parent Category' to child categories. CategoryID Name Value Message ParentID DeptId 1 Books 9 Specials 1 2 Music 7 1 3 Paperback 25 1 1 4 PDFs 26 1 2 5 CDs 35 2 1 If that was sample data, Paperback should have Specials as it's Message after the query is run. I have gotten the child rows (the query runs very slow, don't know why), but how do I get the data and assign it to appropriate child rows? --@DeptId = 1 select * from Categories where ParentID in( select CategoryID from Categories where DeptID = @DeptId ) I would like to see a solution that would not use cursors.   I am using two content types - test_parent & test_child In test_child there are two fields, both of type datetime And in test_parent there are two fields, week_no & 7 node references I am using node_save to save a new node. After saving a node of parent type, and then saving the node of child type, i want to update the node it into the parent type. I have completed creation of both nodes from code, and also i am able to update nid in parent type from code. The problem is, the change in db is getting reflected in db but not on drupal node view. Even if i edit the node from drupal, it's showing -none- selected in node reference. Please help.

  How to I get my security policy working? My parent swf parses an XML doc and loads 2 children. It throws a 2148 security error, and only works in the Flash IDE. PARENT SWF flash.system.Security.loadPolicyFile("crossdomain.xml"); I've referenced my security file from my swf. I Also published my parent swf as 'network only' and put all the crossdomain.xml and everything else in the same folder. I need to click on the animations and have them place from a local computer at a kiosk. Any suggestions? • IPhone CoreData: How should I relate many child entities to thier parents

  I am trying to import data from a database that uses primary key / forign key relations to a core data database in Xcode. I have code that creates hundreds of child entities in a managed object context: Each child has an ID that corresponds to a parent. child1 parentID = 3 child2 parentID = 17 child3 parentID = 17 ... childn parentID = 5 I now need to relate each child to its parent. The parents are all stored in persistent memory. My first thought was to preform a fetch for each child to get its parent. However, I think this would be slow. Am I correct? How should I do this instead?

• mysql database design: thread and reply of a reply?

  in my forum i have threads and replies. one thread has multiple replies. but then, a reply can be a reply of an reply (like google wave). because of that a reply has to have a column "reply_id" so it can point to the parent reply. but then, the "top-level" replies (the replies directly under the thread) will have no parent reply. so how can i fix this? how should the columns be in the reply table (and thread table). at the moment it looks like this: threads: id title body replies: id thread_id (all replies will belong to a thread) reply_id (here lies the problem. the top-level replies wont have a parent reply) body what could a smart design look like to enable reply a reply?

• Padding List Items?

  I have a list where i basically need a hierarchy of items. Any children of an item would be padded slightly, as to easily distinguish their parent item. How could this be achieved? Note that i could, if needed, make each parent show no children, and then when the parent is clicked, a new list containing all of it's children is loaded. This however requires more clicking to display information than i would prefer. Also, the items themselves will contain graphics and whatnot (to show a drag'n'drop button, etc), so it would be best if it visually appeared as if the item itself had a margin, rather than the contents of the item being padded. • Auto height and the float issue.

  I have had this issue before and can't remember if and how I fixed it. I have to create a scenario where I have 2 DIV's floated left and right inside a parent DIV. The 2 floating DIV's have height:auto, but the parent ignores them (perfectly logical) and the background of the parent DIV can't be seen. I know what the issue is, but are there any suggestions of how to solve it? Or any alternatives, I am willing to try a new approach. Thanks in advance for any help.

  Let's suppose we have a code doing something like this: int pipes[2]; pipe(pipes); pid_t p = fork(); if(0 == p) { dup2(pipes[1], STDOUT_FILENO); execv("/path/to/my/program", NULL); ... } else { //... parent process stuff } As you can see, it's creating a pipe, forking and using the pipe to read the child's output (I can't use popen here, because I also need the PID of the child process for other purposes). Question is, what should happen if in the above code, execv fails? Should I call exit() or abort()? As far as I know, those functions close the open file descriptors. Since fork-ed process inherits the parent's file descriptors, does it mean that the file descriptors used by the parent process will become unusable?

How can I get these lower level descendants to show up? I imagine recursion is necessary somewhere, but where?

  I am still fairly new to parallel computing so I am not too sure which tool to use for the job. I have a System.Threading.Tasks.Task that needs to wait for n number number of tasks to finish before starting. The tricky part is some of its dependencies may start after this task starts (You are guaranteed to never hit 0 dependent tasks until they are all done). Here is kind of what is happening Parent thread creates somewhere between 1 and (NUMBER_OF_CPU_CORES - 1) tasks. Parent thread creates task to be run when all of the worker tasks are finished. Parent thread creates a monitoring thread Monitoring thread may kill a worker task or spawn a new task depending on load. I can figure out everything up to step 4. How do I get the task from step 2 to wait to run until any new worker threads created in step 4 finish?

• Java combine parents of two large inheritance chains

  I have two parent classes in a huge project, let's say ClassA and ClassB. Each class has many subclasses, which in turn have many subclasses, which in turn have many subclasses, etc. My task is to "marry" these two "families" so that both inherit from a SINGLE parent. I need to essentially make ClassA and ClassB one class (parent) to both of their combined subclasses (children). ClassA and ClassB both currently implement Serializable. I am currently trying to make both inheritance chains inherit from ClassA, and then copy all functions and data members from ClassB into ClassA. This is tedious, and I think a terrible solution. What would be the CORRECT way to solve this problem?

• How to create a nested form in backbone relational?

  I would like to be able to create nested models at the same time in backbone. I know how to use backbone relational to create the parent model. Then once it is saved, I can create child models through backbone relational. However, I want to be able to create both the parent and child models at the same time, which might not be possible because I can only create the child model once the parent model has already been created. For example, let's say I was creating a forum like the one from the awesome backbone relational tutorial - http://antoviaque.org/docs/tutorials/backbone-relational-tutorial/. I would want to create a thread and a message at the same time(through the click of a single button) rather than create a thread then a message. Is this possible? Is there a better way of doing this that I'm not thinking of?

• Using Java, can I have one JVM spawn another, and then have the original one exit?

  I have a need to have a running JVM start another JVM and then exit. I'm currently trying to do this via Runtime.getRuntime().exec(). The other JVM starts, but my original JVM won't exit until the "child" JVM process stops. It appears that using Runtime.getRuntime().exec() creates a parent-child relationship between the processes. Is there some way to de-couple the spawned process so that the parent can die, or some other mechanism to spawn a process without any relationship to the creating process? Note that this seems exactly like this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2566502/using-java-to-spawn-a-process-and-keep-it-running-after-parent-quits but the accepted answer there doesn't actually work, at least not on my system (Windows 7, Java 5 and 6). It seems that maybe this is a platform-dependent behavior. I'm looking for a platform independent way to reliably invoke the other process and let my original process die.

• jQuery .toggle() not working as expected with second function?!

I need to distinguish wether it's a show or hide action so I can pass the variable elsewhere, here's what I have.. $(this).find('.hide-close').click( function() { $(this).siblings('.dragbox-content').toggle(function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Show'); },function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Hide'); } ); }) .end() }); If use the following code, taking out the second function within toggle(), it works?!   What is the purpose of using the reserved word virtual in front of functions? If I want a child class to override a parent function, I just declare the same function such as "void draw(){}". class Parent{ public: void say(){ std::cout << "1"; }}; class Child : public Parent{public:void say(){ std::cout << "2"; } }; int main() { Child* a = new Child(); a->say(); return 0; } The output is 2. So again, why would the reserved word "virtual" be necessary in the header of say() ? Thanks a bunch.
