• how to use iptables to block the IP of device connected to openwrt router

  I have two routers(A,B).the A connect to internet with IP:192.168.1.1 The openwrt router B connect the lan of A by bridge with static IP:192.168.1.111. I am learning to use iptables to control the devices connected to B(wlan) . I use my phone to connect wifi of B,the phone's IP is IP:192.168.1.100.it can surf the internet normally. I want to block the phone's IP to make the phone can not connect to internet. refer to http://bredsaal.dk/some-small-iptables-on-openwrt-tips iptables -A input_wan -s 192.168.1.100 --jump REJECT iptables -A forwarding_rule -d 192.168.1.100 --jump REJECT but it do not work.the phone still connect to internet normally. and I tried other chain(INPUT,OUTPUT,FORWARD).so many chains confused me. iptables -I OUTPUT -o br-lan -s 192.168.1.100 -j DROP and it do not work again. • Prevent member of administrator group loging in via Remote Desktop

  In order to support some build processes on our Server 2003 development servers, we require a common user account that has administrative privs. Unfortuantly, this also means that anyone that knows the password can also gain admin privs on a server. Assume that trying to keep the password secret is a failed exercise. Developers that need admin privs already have admin privs so should be able to log in as themselves. So the question is a simple one: is there anything I can configure to prevent people (ab)using the account to gain administrator on servers they shouldn't have administrator on? I'm aware that devs could disable anything that is put in place, but that's then down to process and auditing to track and manage. I don't mind where or how: it can be via the local security policy, group policy, a batch file executed in the user's profile, or something else.

• Problems restoring old backups in NetBackup 6.5

  I had a server that was decommissioned & replaced last year, and since the server was no longer in use, I deleted it's client & backup policy from the NetBackup Admin Console shortly afterwards. I recently got a request to restore a file from the old server, however when I specify the source client for the restore, I get an error message saying: WARNING: server (backupserver) does not contain any backups for client (oldserver) using the specified policy type (Standard) as requested by client (backupserver). [Ok] In addition to that error, I can't seem to run a Client Backup report on the old client any more to determine what tapes I need to recall in order to re-index and restore the files... My questions: Does deleting the client somehow remove NetBackups ability to ever restore files from the old system, even if the backups have a retention period of infinity? Is there a way to restore the file from the tape, assuming I can figure out which tape I need?

For that I need to execute another exe on shutdown, which will disconnect drives mounted by my app. I got few links which shows we can create a entry in Group Policy to execute a programe while window shut down. I am not sure how I can add a entry to Group ploicy by C++ code. Again , group policy doesn't work with Win Vista. Any other better approach ?

• Does Windows Home Server support folder redirection?

  Windows provides the ability to redirect specific user folders to server locations, using a group policy extension called Folder Redirection. The Wikipedia article and Microsoft's marketing page for Windows Home Server suggests a tons of great features, but I don't see anything about specifically about Folder Redirection. I currently run a domain controller in the home so that I can push the folder redirection group policy down to all PCs. Windows Home Server looks like a better fit, but I'd hate to give up on the ease of folder redirection to automatically save all documents, music, pictures to the file server. Any thoughts?

• How soon does nginx's token bucket replenish when limiting at requests per minute?

  We've decided that we want to experiment and limit requests per minute instead of requests per second on our sites. However, I am confused by the burst parameter in this context. I am under the impression that when you use the 'nodelay' flag, the rate limiting facility acts like a token bucket instead of a leaky bucket. That being the case, the bucket size is equal to the burst parameter, and every time that you violate the policy (say 1 req/s), you have to put a token in the bucket. Once the bucket is full (being equal to the burst setting), you are given a 503 error page. I am also under the impression that once a violator stops going against the policy, a token is removed from the bucket at a rate of 1 token/s allowing him to regain access to the site. Assuming that I have the above correct, my question is what happens when I start regulating access per minute? If we chose 60 requests per minute, at what rate does the token bucket replenish?

I'd like to disable this practice both to avoid reg-file fragmentation and SSD wear, as well as being uncomfortable with programs being able to quickly analyze my usage habits. Even with the "Turn off user tracking" policy enabled, there are at least two areas that still contain user tracking: HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\MuiCache This key stores a cache of most-recently accessed strings, including most-recently ran exe descriptions. MKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft Windows\Shell\BagMRU This directory stores the most recently viewed folders along with timestamps. Are there additional policy settings/registry entries to disable these writes? If not, is it possible to make these entries Volatile? Would it be practical to create a temporary hive (eg, on ramdisk) and map it over this location?

• Can not join comp to the domain... greyed out

  I have an old WinXP Pro SP3 computer I need to join to the domain, simple right? not really. When I go to control panel - system - computer name and click on CHANGE ("rename this computer") everything is greyed out. I can not set it from workgroup to a domain. I am logged on locally as an admin. (Builtin account and one I created) I have checked local policy (gpedit.msc) on the comp, but it feels like a needle in the haystack. I could probably reload an image faster than trying to fix this...but I am curious so I post here to see if anyone knows of it/fix. • Security considerations in providing VPN access to non-company issued computers [migrated]

  There have been a few people at my office that have requested the installation of DropBox on their computers to synchronize files so they can work on them at home. I have always been wary about cloud computing, mainly because we are a Canadian company and enjoy the privacy and being outside the reach of the Patriot Act. The policy before I started was that employees with company issued notebooks could be issued a VPN account, and everyone else had to have a remote desktop connection. The theory behind this logic (as I understand it) was that we had the potential to lock down the notebooks whereas the employees home computers were outside of our grasp. We had no ability to ensure they weren't running as administrator all the time / were running AV so they were a higher risk at being infected with malware and could compromise network security. With the increase in people wanting DropBox I'm curious as to whether or not this policy is too restrictive and overly paranoid. Is it generally safe to provide VPN access to an employee without knowing what their computing environment looks like?

• Windows XP: how to disable automatic encryption on downloaded files

  I have Windows XP SP3 and every file I download is automatically encrypted no matter what directory I save the downloaded file in. So it's not as simple as turning off encryption of any specific directory, the file will be downloaded as encrypted regardless of whether the directory is encrypted or not. Is there a policy or registry setting somewhere to disable this automatic encryption? (EDIT: I doubt it's malware since this OS was just installed on this machine. It's my work PC and by default I think there's some group policy or other setting which not only sets everything in My Documents to encrypted, but also everything I download, no matter where it's downloaded to. )

  How would I go about allowing a 'domain user' to install software on their computer. I have active directory and group policy in place. Is there a setting in group policy that would allow this? I don't really want to make the domain users domain admins as well. There is a way to do this by adding the user to their local admins group under computer management. • windows 8 on macbook locks after 2 mins despite high performance settings

  I am running my Macbook Prop as a Windows 8 machine using bootcamp and for some reason, when I leave the keyboard/mouse alone for 2 mins it locks the PC (i.e. goes to the lock screen). I have (of course) checked the power settings and I can assure you that it is not set to these settings. I did notice that when I added my work's Mail Account the computer asked me to accept some group policy settings, which I did, so I suspect that this is a group policy setting, but I cannot find it. Can someone help? P.S. I have searched these forums first, and this is different to the PC going to sleep once locked, this is locking while logged in after 2 mins. Thanks.

• How to read iptables -L output?

  I'm rather new to iptables, and I'm trying to understand its output. I tried to RTFM, but to no avail when it comes to little details like these. When iptables -vnL gives me a line such as: Chain INPUT (policy DROP 2199 packets, 304K bytes) I understand the first part: on incoming data, if the list below this line does not provide any exceptions, then the default policy is to DROP incoming packets. But what does the 2199 packets, 304K bytes part mean? Is that all the packets that were dropped? Is there any way to find out which packets that were, and where they came from? Thanks!

• Cannot logon guest account in windows 7

  I'm using Windows 7 Home edition. When I try to create any guest account, it fails to load at login with the error: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded” I can login as admin and my home user with no problems. Every guest account that I create fails. I found this on a microsoft text article: This error may occur if the "Do not logon users with temporary profiles" Group Policy setting is configured. I've tried to find the Group Policy settings and cannot locate it anywhere. Some sites indicate I need to upgrade windows to access it. Is there a way to use guest accounts without upgrading?

In the Windows Service I am using EntLib for exception handling and logging.   I cant seem to open a new view from an options menu item. The program keeps crashing as it applies the intent and listener to the item. I am just beginning, so please be nice. The current view is mnfsms, and the view I am trying to open is mnfsms_settings. I am developing for 1.5. Could someone please help me get the menu working. • Queued Loadtest to remove Concurrency issues using Shared Data Service in OpenScript

  Queued Processing to remove Concurrency issues in Loadtest ScriptsSome scripts act on information returned by the server, e.g. act on first item in the returned list of pending tasks/actions. This may lead to concurrency issues if the virtual users simulated in a load test scenario are not synchronized in some way.As the load test cases should be carried out in a comparable and straight forward manner simply cancel a transaction in case a collision occurs is clearly not an option. In case you increase the number of virtual users this approach would lead to a high number of requests for the early steps in your transaction (e.g. login, retrieve list of action points, assign an action point to the virtual user) but later steps would be rarely visited successfully or at all, depending on the application logic.A way to tackle this problem is to enqueue the virtual users in a Shared Data Service queue. Only the first virtual user in this queue will be allowed to carry out the critical steps (retrieve list of action points, assign an action point to the virtual user) in your transaction at any one time.Once a virtual user has passed the critical path it will dequeue himself from the head of the queue and continue with his actions. This does theoretically allow virtual users to run in parallel all steps of the transaction which are not part of the critical path.In practice it has been seen this is rarely the case, though it does not allow adding more than N users to perform a transaction without causing delays due to virtual users waiting in the queue. N being the time of the total transaction divided by the sum of the time of all critical steps in this transaction.While this problem can be circumvented by allowing multiple queues to act on individual segments of the list of actions, e.g. per country filter, ends with 0..9 filter, etc.This would require additional handling of these additional queues of slots for the virtual users at the head of the queue in order to maintain the mutually exclusive access to the first element in the list returned by the server at any one time of the load test. Such an improved handling of multiple queues and/or multiple slots is above the subject of this paper.Shared Data Services Pre-RequisitesStart WebLogic Server to host Shared Data ServicesYou will have to make sure that your WebLogic server is installed and started. Shared Data Services may not work if you installed only the minimal installation package for OpenScript. If however you installed the default package including OLT and OTM, you may follow the instructions below to start and verify WebLogic installation.To start the WebLogic Server deployed underneath of Oracle Load Testing and/or Oracle Test Manager you can go to your Start menu, Oracle Application Testing Suite and select the Restart Oracle Application Testing Suite Application Service entry from the Tools submenu.To verify the service has been started you can run the Microsoft Management Console for Services by Selecting Run from the Start Menu and entering services.msc. Look for the entry that reads Oracle Application Testing Suite Application Service, once it has changed it status from Starting to Started you can proceed to verify the login. Please note that this may take several minutes, I would say up to 10 minutes depending on the strength of your CPU horse-power.Verify WebLogic Server user credentialsYou will have to make sure that your WebLogic Server is installed and started. Next open the Oracle WebLogic Server Adminstration Console on http://localhost:8088/console.It may take a while until the application is deployed and started. It may display the following until the Administration Console has been deployed on the fly.Afterwards you can login using the username oats and the password that you selected during install time for your Application Testing Suite administrative purposes.This will bring up the Home page of you WebLogic Server. You have actually verified that you are able to login with these credentials already. However if you want to check the details, navigate to Security Realms, myrealm, Users and Groups tab.Here you could add users to your WebLogic Server which could be used in the later steps. Details on the Groups required for such a custom user to work are exceeding this quick overview and have to be selected with the WebLogic Server Adminstration Guide in mind.Shared Data Services pre-requisites for Load testingOpenScript Preferences have to be set to enable Encryption and provide a default Shared Data Service Connection for Playback.These are pre-requisites you want to use for load testing with Shared Data Services.Please note that the usage of the Connection Parameters (individual directive in the script) for Shared Data Services did not playback reliably in the current version 9.20.0370 of Oracle Load Testing (OLT) and encryption of credentials still seemed to be mandatory as well.General Encryption settingsSelect OpenScript Preferences from the View menu and navigate to the General, Encryption entry in the tree on the left. Select the Encrypt script data option from the list and enter the same password that you used for securing your WebLogic Server Administration Console.Enable global shared data access credentialsSelect OpenScript Preferences from the View menu and navigate to the Playback, Shared Data entry in the tree on the left. Enable the global shared data access credentials and enter the Address, User name and Password determined for your WebLogic Server to host Shared Data Services.Please note, that you may want to replace the localhost in Address with the hosts realname in case you plan to run load tests with Loadtest Agents running on remote systems.Queued Processing of TransactionsEnable Shared Data Services Module in Script PropertiesThe Shared Data Services Module has to be enabled for each Script that wants to employ the Shared Data Service Queue functionality in OpenScript. It can be enabled under the Script menu selecting Script Properties. On the Script Properties Dialog select the Modules section and check Shared Data to enable Shared Data Service Module for your script. Checking the Shared Data Services option will effectively add a line to your script code that adds the sharedData ScriptService to your script class of IteratingVUserScript.@ScriptService oracle.oats.scripting.modules.sharedData.api.SharedDataService sharedData;Record your scriptRecord your script as usual and then add the following things for Queue handling in the Initialize code block, before the first step and after the last step of your critical path and in the Finalize code block.The java code to be added at individual locations is explained in the following sections in full detail.Create a Shared Data Queue in InitializeTo create a Shared Data Queue go to the Java view of your script and enter the following statements to the initialize() code block.info("Create queueA with life time of 120 minutes");sharedData.createQueue("queueA", 120);This will create an instantiation of the Shared Data Queue object named queueA which is maintained for upto 120 minutes.If you want to use the code for multiple scripts, make sure to use a different queue name for each one here and in the subsequent steps. You may even consider to use a dynamic queueName based on filters of your result list being concurrently accessed.Prepare a unique id for each IterationIn order to keep track of individual virtual users in our queue we need to create a unique identifier from the virtual user id and the used username right after retrieving the next record from our databank file.getDatabank("Usernames").getNextDatabankRecord();getVariables().set("usernameValue1","VU_{{@vuid}}_{{@iterationnum}}_{{db.Usernames.Username}}_{{@timestamp}}_{{@random(10000)}}");String usernameValue = getVariables().get("usernameValue1");info("Now running virtual user " + usernameValue);As you can see from the above code block, we have set the OpenScript variable usernameValue1 to VU_{{@vuid}}_{{@iterationnum}}_{{db.Usernames.Username}}_{{@timestamp}}_{{@random(10000)}} which is a concatenation of the virtual user id and the iterationnumber for general uniqueness; as well as the username from our databank, the timestamp and a random number for making it further unique and ease spotting of errors.Not all of these fields are actually required to make it really unique, but adding the queue name may also be considered to help troubleshoot multiple queues.The value is then retrieved with the getVariables.get() method call and assigned to the usernameValue String used throughout the script.Please note that moving the getDatabank("Usernames").getNextDatabankRecord(); call to the initialize block was later considered to remove concurrency of multiple virtual users running with the same userid and therefor accessing the same "My Inbox" in step 6. This will effectively give each virtual user a userid from the databank file. Make sure you have enough userids to remove this second hurdle.Enqueue and attend Queue before Critical PathTo maintain the right order of virtual users being allowed into the critical path of the transaction the following pseudo step has to be added in front of the first critical step. This last step will be repeated while the two are not equal (indexOf less than zero). If they are equal the indexOf will yield a value of zero or larger and we will perform the critical steps.Dequeue after Critical PathAfter the virtual user has left the critical path and complete its last step the following code block needs to dequeue the virtual user. In the case of our example this is right after the action has been actually assigned to the virtual user. This will allow the next virtual user to retrieve the list of actions still available and in turn let him make his selection/assignment.info("Get and remove the current user from the head of queueA");String pollValue1 = (String) sharedData.pollFirst("queueA");The current user is removed from the head of the queue. The next one will now be able to match his username against the head of the queue.Clear and Destroy Queue for FinishWhen the script has completed, it should clear and destroy the queue. This code block can be put in the finish block of your script and/or in a separate script in order to clear and remove the queue in case you have spotted an error or want to reset the queue for some reason.info("Clear queueA");sharedData.clearQueue("queueA");info("Destroy queueA");sharedData.destroyQueue("queueA");The users waiting in queueA are cleared and the queue is destroyed. If you have scripts still executing they will be caught in a loop.I found it better to maintain a separate Reset Queue script which contained only the following code in the initialize() block. I use to call this script to make sure the queue is cleared in between multiple Loadtest runs. It is advised to log a Service Request to see if this could be lowered in future releases of Application Testing Suite, as the pollFirst() and even offerLast() writing to the tail of the Queue usually returned after an average 0.1 seconds.Debugging QueueWhile debugging the scripts the following was useful to remove single entries from its head, i.e. the current first user in the Queue.   Last October I learnt my company wanted to put together a new blog/social networking policy. I decided that out of respect for my employer I wouldn’t blog until this was sorted out. This was perhaps was an easy decision to make as I was separating from my ex-wife at the time and frankly needed the time to concentrate on other things. So now the company has a brand new policy and I’m back into the dating game I thought I would blow off the cobwebs and get back to what I enjoy doing. First and foremost SQL Server 2008 R2 is almost here and to mark that fact I will be in London on Thursday at the Microsoft UK Tech-Day’s event. The subjects I most want to see are … Power Pivot – this is such an exciting technology! I’ve been a fan of Qlikview for years so it will be good to see how it compares SQL Azure – Cloud Computing is big right now, so it will be interesting to see what the RTM product can do. I have afew ideas for its use and will be interesting to see if SQL Azure is the right product … more on this in the next few weeks. Master Data Services – This is one of those technologies that Microsoft hasn’t been making much noise about … and frankly should have because it is a game changer. Hmmm, queue future “What is … ?” post StreamInsight – An exciting events technology, again another “What is … ?” post is around the corner on that. So, you thought that SQL Server 2008 R2 was just a release to make sure the years between SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2010 weren’t so long? I am however disappointed that Clustering across Subnets didn’t make it and not sure if Control Points made it but all will be revealed later on this week. Till then I will have to wait!
