  • Save has_and_belongs_to_many link in basic RoR app

    I try to learn the has_and_belongs_to_many relationship between my 2 fresh new and simple models Product and Author, where a Product can have many authors and where author can have a lots of products.   • what POIs (Point of Interests) DB can I use for a commercial app

    Hi, I need a POI database for a startup project I am working on - it will be a free basic version and a premium paid for version in the sense that user will pay a monthly subscription. I would like to use foursquare type checkin to places and plancast type functionality to search for places (one-line search). Ie I need to: - perform a search for POIs around a location - associate users to that POI, with a time stamp - allow users to add own POIs - provide free-text search for POIs (a la google one-line search) Google API allows great search, but I understand there are limits in number of requests that can be done? This would prevent scaling, and may result in application breaking when too many users. Also what does google T&C say about using this in a paid for service? Openstreetmap I understand does not have these contstraints, but do they also provide a good one-line search type API? Or how could I solve this? Many thanks for any advice, Ellie

  • Save entity with entity framework

    Hi, I'm saving entities/records with the EF, but i'm curious if there is another way of doing it. I receive a class from a MVC controller method, so basicly i have all the info: the class's properties, including the primary key. Without EF i would do a Sql update (update table set a=b, c=d where id = 5), but with EF i got no further than this: Get an object with ID of 5 Update the (existing) object with the new object Submitchanges. What bothers me is that i have to get the object from the database first, where i have all the info to do an update statement. Is there another way of doing this?

  • Swing: Scroll to bottom of JScrollPane, conditional on current viewport location

    Hi all, I am attempting to mimic the functionality of Adium and most other chat clients I've seen, wherein the scrollbars advance to the bottom when new messages come in, but only if you're already there. In other words, if you've scrolled a few lines up and are reading, when a new message comes in it won't jump your position to the bottom of the screen; that would be annoying. But if you're scrolled to the bottom, the program rightly assumes that you want to see the most recent messages at all times, and so auto-scrolls accordingly. I have had a bear of a time trying to mimic this; the platform seems to fight this behavior at all costs. The best I can do is as follows: In constructor: JTextArea chatArea = new JTextArea(); JScrollPane chatAreaScrollPane = new JScrollPane(chatArea); // We will manually handle advancing chat window DefaultCaret caret = (DefaultCaret) chatArea.getCaret(); caret.setUpdatePolicy(DefaultCaret.NEVER_UPDATE); In method that handles new text coming in: boolean atBottom = isViewAtBottom(); // Append the text using styles etc to the chatArea if (atBottom) { scrollViewportToBottom(); } public boolean isAtBottom() { // Is the last line of text the last line of text visible? By setting the caret position, whatever selection the user may have in the chat area is erased. I can imagine this would be very irritating if he's attempting to copy/paste. Since the advancement of the scroll pane occurs after the text is inserted, there is a split second where the scrollbar is in the wrong position, and then it visually jumps towards the end. This is not ideal. Before you ask, yes I've read this blog post on Text Area Scrolling, but the default scroll to bottom behavior is not what I want. Other related (but to my mind, not completely helpful in this regard) questions: Setting scroll bar on a jscrollpane Making a JScrollPane automatically scroll all the way down. Any help in this regard would be very much appreciated.

  • VS2010: "Select Resource" dialog & resx location

    Got two issues with the VS2010 / VS2008 select resource dialog - the one that appears when you want to add an image to a button in a WinForms app for example. Give me my files back! It only seems to see the default project resources file (Properties\Resources.resx), and resx files in project root (say MyProject\famfamfam.resx). We have quite a few icons all over the app, and because some of them come from different icon sets (like famfamfam), and some are related to this project only we'd like to keep them separate. For that same reason (keeping solution neat & tidy) we want to store these extra resource files in the Resources folder (eg. Resources\famfamfam.resx). However, we'd also like to keep using the Select Resource dialog :-) Because it does not see the 'extra' resource files, we're having to select a 'fake' icon now (from the global Resources.resx file) and then manually change that to reference the right icon in .Designer.cs. As you can imagine, this is a pain. Stop modifying my files! Second issue is a bit more annoying. We use the excellent MultiLang add-in for Visual Studio to globalize our app. It stores its translations in MultiLang.resx & MultiLang.XY.resx files in the project root, where XY is a language code, eg. .cs.resx for Czech. These have to be set to No code generation access modifier. What Select Resource seems to be doing is set all .resx files it can find to Internal. Exec summary Is there a way to convince Select Resource dialog to look for extra .resx files anywhere besides the project root? Is there any way to stop it from modifying the access modifier of the resources it does see (other than file a bug with MS)? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    I have a div element containing some text. When the user clicks a word inside that div I'd like to highlight just that word. In order to do this I need to know what character position in the text the click occurred at, so I can then locate nearby whitespace and insert some formatting around the word. Finding out where the click occurred within the text is the trick here. Is that kind of thing possible?

  • Changing IIS URL Rewrite config location

    Hi When used at site level, the IIS7 URL Rewrite 2 module saves its configuration in the web.config file of that site. I'm using Sitecore CMS, and best practice is to store any web.config customisations in a separate config file for ease of upgrading, staging/production setups etc. Is there any way to specify a different config file for IIS7 redirects? I know that application-level rewrites are stored in ApplicationHost.config, but I have several sites running on the server and would like to keep them separated. Thanks, Adam

    Hi, I'm new to using TFS build. I've got a build defined that runs as a continuous integration. It creates a drop folder, but there's nothing in it. What's the best practice for moving stuff in the drop folder? I've seen a Binaries folder, do I need to copy things into their, or do I alter the TFSbuild.proj in some way to copy the files I want to the drop folder? Thanks.

    I'm after a simple solution to work in all browsers. For specific file types, or targeted links via a class: how can I get them to simply force download in all major browsers.   • Return and Save XML Object From Sharepoint List Web Service

    I am trying to populate a variable with an XML response from an ajax call on page load so that on keyup I can filter through that list without making repeated get requests (think very rudimentary autocomplete). The trouble that I am having seems to be potentially related to variable scoping but I am fairly new to js/jQuery so I am not quite certain. The following code doesn't do anything on key up and adding alerts to it tells me that it is executing leadResults() on keyup and that the variable is returning an XML response object but it appears to be empty. The strange bit is that if I move the leadResults() call into the getResults() function the UL is populated with the results correctly.   • Zedgraph textobj X location depends on text length?

    I have a Zedgraph textobj which I want to place always in the same x, y position (ASP.NET image). I noticed that the text doesn't always show in the same starting x position. It shifts depending on the text's length. I tried to have the text to have the same length by padding it with spaces. It helped a little but the result is not always consistent. I am using PaneFraction for coordType. What's the proper method to have a piece of text to always show in the same x position. I am using textobj as a title because the native title property always shows up centered and I need my title be left aligned to the graph.

  • Web service reference location?

    I have a Visual Studio 2008 solution that's currently consisting of three projects: A DataFactory project for Business Logic/Data Access. A Web project consisting of the actual user interface, pages, controls, etc. A Web.Core project consisting of utility classes, etc. The application requires consuming a web service. Normally I'd add the service reference to the Web project, but I'm not sure if this is best practice or not. The following options are open to me: Add the reference to the Web project. Add the reference to the Web.Core project, and create a wrapper method that Web will call to consume the web service. Add a new project called Web.Services, and copy step 2. This project is expected to increase in size so I'm open to any suggestions.

  • Google Drive Update keeps throwing an error when I try to save a thumbnail

    The Base64 string checks out fine. I was able to export it to another website and download it again as my image. When I try to do an update using the Drive Javascript api, it just keeps returning this error: Invalidvaluefor:Notavalidbase64bytestring I also true making the string URL safe. Per this page https://google-api-client-libraries.appspot.com/documentation/drive/v2/python/latest/drive_v2.files.html Am I doing something wrong here, the documentation says send Base64, the string is valid and, the string is intact throughout the process, but Google will not accept it? I am using the javascript api, I think there is maybe a bug sending the thumbnail using the javascript api.     Hi I have a controller named "places" with some actions like "view", "new", "create" When a user goes to mysite.com/places I want to execute the action "show" of another controller called "cores" So I've put this in the routes.rb file: map.connect '/:id/show', :controller => "cores", :action => "show" But it doesn't work.     Hello, I've been looking into custom event (listeners) for quite some time, but never succeeded in making one. There are so many different mehods, extending the Event class, but also Extending the EventDispatcher class, very confusing!     I am running Tomcat bundled with Liferay5.2.3 and use Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) as my IDE. I set up my Tomcat server in Eclipse as per this blog entry: http://www.jroller.com/holy/entry/developing_portlets_for_liferay_in. If I start Tomcat via the Eclipse server config, Liferay/Tomcat uses my C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\ directory. However, if I start Tomcat directly using the startup.bat script, Liferay/Tomcat uses the Tomcat temp directory. I can't figure out if Eclipse, Liferay or Tomcat is deciding which temp directory to use or how to change it. I would prefer to use the Tomcat temp directory. I have this issue with both the Lifera/Tomcat bundles 5.5 and 6.0 (liferay-portal-tomcat-6.0-5.2.3.zip and liferay-portal-tomcat-5.5-5.2.3.zip). Anybody have any clues?

    Hello experts! I have created an app which allows users to buy non-consumable content. The retrieving-ids-payment-process works like a charm. What i can't really figure out is how my content should be saved into the phone. The existing structure is that I have all my current content in Resources/packages/. For every package there is an matching entry in a package.plist. When the purchase is complete it is time to download the content from the server. What i retrieve from the server is a zip file with the new package that I have bought. My observer will call a method named provideContent: -(void) provideContent: (NSString*) productIdentifier { In here I will call my server and download the package } What i need from you guys is some sort of step by step walkthrough or tutorial of how, when the zip is retrieved(is zip allowed?), unpack this zip and add it to my current package structure.     Read on before you say this is a duplicate, it's not. (as far as I could see) I want to get the county code in php from the client. Yes I know you can do this using external sites or with the likes of "geoip_record_by_name" but I don't want to be dependent on an external site, and I can't install "pear" for php as im using shard Dreamhost hosting. I thought I could just do something like this: $output = shell_exec('whois '.$ip.' -H | grep country | awk \'{print $2}\''); echo "<pre>$output</pre>"; But dreamhost seems to have an old version of whois (4.7.5), so I get this error on allot of IPs: Unknown AS number or IP network. Please upgrade this program. So unless someone knows how to get a binary of a newer version of whois onto dreamhost im stuck. Or is there another way I could get the country code from the client who is loading the page?
