  Scripting question. Dang, it should be easier than this. I have a file with a list of names. I'd like to turn those names into folders. Whenever I try the FOR loop, all I get is the name of the file I want to read from being created as a folder, not the contents of the file being turned into folders. Just want to mkdir for each item in the list.

• How to randomize a sorted list?

  Here's a strange question for you guys, I have a nice sorted list that I wish to randomize. How would i go about doing that? In my application, i have a function that returns a list of points that describe the outline of a discretized object. Due to the way the problem is solved, the function returns a nice ordered list. i have a second boundary described in math and want to determine if the two objects intersect each other. I simply itterate over the points and determine if any one point is inside the mathematical boundary. The method works well but i want to increase speed by randomizing the point data. Since it is likely that that my mathematical boundary will be overlapped by a series of points that are right beside each other, i think it would make sense to check a randomized list rather than iterating over a nice sorted one (as it only takes a single hit to declare an intersection). So, any ideas on how i would go about randomizing an ordered list?

  Hi, I am working on a J2ME app which has dynamically generated Lists. Items on this list may be consequently selected, and the selection processed within the commandAction block. Is there a way to have the IDs of variables populating the List (from a remote database) included in the List item definition as in: this.append("A", null); this.append("B", null); or: String[] arrayOfValues = {"A", "B"}; new List("Menu", List.IMPLICIT, arrayOfValues, null); such that when an item is selected, perhaps A, I can also have its database ID for perhaps further processing. Is it possible to hide a field/data? Thanks.

• jQuery-AJAX to rebind dropdown list to results from stored procedure

  I have a dropdown list of peoples names that is quite long. As many as 2,000 names. I would like to make it easier to find the name the user is interested in by limiting the dropdown list to a subset of names at a time. I have done this by creating a series of 26 links (A, B, C ... Z) that call a method in the code behind that populates the dropdown list with only those names starting with the letter the user clicked. This all works well but I would like to be able to use AJAX to accomplish this update of the dropdown list without a page refresh. I would like to use jQuery for the AJAX functionality rather than ASP.NET AJAX. My problem is I am not sure how to execute the stored procedure and then "rebind" the dropdown list with the new dataset via jQuery AJAX. Any suggestions or resources that might provide and example or walk-through? Thank you.

My problem is that each time that i click the button to add a new item into the list , its just shows me the last item and the list counter shows me only 1 . What am I doing wrong??   I have several lists in Matlab that I want to write to the same excel file. I have one list xordered and another list aspl. I do not know the length of the lists till after I run the Matlab program. I used data = xlswrite('edgar.xls',fliplr(sortedx'),'A2:A3000') for the first list but when I tried to write another list to the same file like this I ended up with two different excel files named edgar.xls asp_data = xlswrite('edagr.xls', fliplr(aspl'), 'B2:B3000') Is there a way I can write both of these lists into the same excel file? xordered in the A column and aspl in the B column?

  I have a list of numbers I am reading left to right. Anytime I encounter a sign change when reading the sequence I want to count it. X = [-3,2,7,-4,1,-1,1,6,-1,0,-2,1] X = [-, +, +, -, +, -, +, +, -, -,-,+] So, in this list there are 8 sign changes. When Item [0] (in this case -3) is negative it is considered a sign change. Also, any 0 in the list is considered [-]. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• getElementsByTagName returns 0-length list when called from didFinishLoad delegate

  I'm using the Chromium port of WebKit on Windows and I'm trying to retrieve a list of all of the images in my document. I figured the best way to do this was to implement WebKit::WebFrameClient::didFinishLoading like so: WebNodeList list = document->getElementsByTagName(L"img"); for (size_t i = 0; i < list.length(); ++i) { // Manipulate images here... } However, when this delegate fires, list.length() returns 0. The only times I've seen it return a list of non-zero length is when I substitute "body" or "head" for "img". Strangely enough, if I call getElementsByTagName(L"img") outside of the delegate, it works correctly. I'm guessing that the DOM isn't fully loaded when didFinishLoading is called, but that would seem to contradict the delegate's name. Does anyone know what I may be missing here?

  I'm creating a list of my defined objects like so List<clock> cclocks = new List<clocks>(); for each object in the list i'm calling a method moveTime, like so foreach(clock c in cclocks) { c.moveTime(); } is the a way i can write some cleaver thing so i can call cclocks.moveTime(); it would then go though the list doing that method I guess I want to create a collection method?   I am really hating SharePoint as there are hardly any good/concrete documentation. I developed custom List "MainCatalog" with few columns (not site columns). Create features and elements with MOSS feature builder at Site collection level so scope="site" installed via stsadm activated via UI "went to site collection website", Site Setting Site collection Feature (and saw my custom list "MainCatalog") and was able to activate. then went to "mySiteCollection Site Settings Site Libraries and Lists " My list is showing But it shows in the "mySiteCollection Create Custom Lists "MainCatalog" I guess it's showing there as a template... But my intention is to deploy this list from development to test environment. EXTREMELY STRESSED. I AM ON THIS FOR LAST 8 DAYS.....

  I'm trying to make a function that takes in a list, and if one of the elements is negative, then any elements in that list that are equal to its positive counterpart should be changed to 0. Eg, if there is a -2 in a list, then all 2's in that list should be changed to 0. Any ideas why it only works for some cases and not others?
