• Creating a list based on a column

  I need to create a dropdown list in sheet A based on the values in sheet B in column A. I clicked on the A column in B sheet and named it as Models. Then I clicked on the cell in sheet A where I wanted the list to be and selected Data -> Data validation -> Data validation. In the Settings page I selected List in the Allow section, checked Ignore blank and In-cell dropdown. In the Source section I inserted =Models. This way I get all the right values plus a lot of blank values. How do I prevent the blank lines from appearing in the list?

• How to stop LDAP authentication in ubuntu?

  My OS is Ubuntu 12.04 and use LDAP authentication. Now I meet a problem that another people want to access my system. But he is in another domain so he can't login. And I have no right to change this configuration in LDAP server. So I have to choose a workaround to solve this problem, for example close the LDAP authentication and use local authentication (I have root right in my system) or create another account which is not registered in LDAP server (I did this but can't change the created account password. The error is 'password reset by root is not supported'). Of course any other suggestion is appreciated! Than you in advance!

• mysql wont stop, mysqld_safe appeared in top

  my server (CentOS) contains lots of website, which collect data from lots of sources with cron. the mysql config is the default recently, PHP failed to communicate with mysql. Firstly I just restart the server but after restarted, PHP still failed to communicate with mysql I've tried: ps ax | grep mysql Then run: kill -9 #### (I've also tried killall -9 ####) - this failed, ps ax | grep mysql showing the killed process id is still there service mysqld start (I've also tried /etc/init.d/mysqld start) - I got reply Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon. when run top, mysqld_safe is appeared on top with about 50% of CPU usage. I dont know the size of all the database. I really confused

• how do I stop excel from adding double quotes to my formula

  this works: {=MEDIAN((Table1[MonthFinish]=201012)*(Table1[Days]))} but if I put 201012 into cell A3, this doesn't done work: {=MEDIAN((Table1[MonthFinish]=A3)*(Table1[Days]))} when i do Evaluate Formula on the 2nd one...I see that there are double quotes about the 201012 that was pulled from A3...like so: {=MEDIAN((Table1[MonthFinish]="201012")*(Table1[Days]))} and as such, all the 201012s pulled from the MonthFinsh row come back as FALSE when compared to "201012" (ie, 201012="201012" ) where as they come back as TRUE when I hard code 201012 as it shows up as 201012=201012. how do i get even to not put those quotes around the number?

• Stop Metro on W8 from minimizing on dual screens

  I'm running Windows 8 with two screens, and have set it so that I have Metro on my secondary screen, because I thought that I could have that visible while I was working on other things on the main screen. The problem is, as soon as I click on something on the main screen, Metro goes away on my secondary screen. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?? I would like to be able to see f.ex the clock, notifications on mail/messaging etc. while I'm working on things.

• Why would TCP wrappers stop working for sshd?

  On a couple of CentOS 5 servers sshd seems to have become 'unwrapped' - previously I was using TCP wrappers and hosts.allow/hosts.deny to control access, but these are now not being used. If I execute $ldd /usr/sbin/sshd | grep libwrap $ it outputs nothing, whereas on servers where TCP wrappers are still working I see libwrap.so.0 => /lib64/libwrap.so.0 (0x00002b2fbcb81000) Does anyone know what might cause this, or how it could be rectified? • How to stop windows from adding additional keyboards to languages

  I have the English language setup with the normal en-us layout, and only this layout. I have the Spanish language setup with united states - international layout. When I switch to English it gives me the option to select the regular keyboard or the international version. Only the regular version is listed under EN in my language settings. How do I get it to remove the international keyboard from English? Sometimes it switches to international while I'm on English mode and screws up my typing, which is a pain in the ass.

(maybe because it expected a IList<) So, my question is: Does anybody know why the type of my IList< is an array after deserializing and why I can't serialize my Team object any longer after that?   I am trying to use Linq2Sql to return all rows that contain values from a list of strings. The linq2sql class object has a string property that contains words separated by spaces. public class MyObject { public string MyProperty { get; set; } } Example MyProperty values are: MyObject1.MyProperty = "text1 text2 text3 text4" MyObject2.MyProperty = "text2" For example, using a string collection, I pass the below list var list = new List<>() { "text2", "text4" } This would return both items in my example above as they both contain "text2" value.   Hi, First of all this is not a homework, this is an interview question that I got from a company I attended today. You have a singly linked list with the Node structure as the following class Node{ int data; Node next; Node random; } You have a typical singly linked list of length n. The random pointer in each node in the linkedlist randomly points to some Node within the linked list. The Question is to create a copy of the linked list efficiently into a different LinkedList. I said that I will first calculate the Random pointer's position in the linked list and store it in an array. Then create a new linked list normally. Then iterate through the linked list by setting the random pointer where they belong by reading the values stored from the array. I know its a very brute force technique and the interviewer asked me to come up with a better solution but I couldnt. Please can someone answer this? I can explain if the question is not clear.

  I'm working on implementing the equality operator = for a custom class of mine. The class has one property, Value, which is itself a List(Of OtherClass), where OtherClass is yet another custom class in my project. I've already implemented the IComparer, IComparable, IEqualityComparer, and IEquatable interfaces, the operators =, <>, bool and not, and overriden Equals and GetHashCode for OtherClass. This should give me all the tools I need to compare these objects, and various tests comparing two singular instances of these objects so far checks out. However, I'm not sure how to approach this when they are in a List. I don't care about the list order. Given: Dim x As New List(Of OtherClass) From {New OtherClass("foo"), New OtherClass("bar"), New OtherClass("baz")} Dim y As New List(Of OtherClass) From {New OtherClass("baz"), New OtherClass("foo"), New OtherClass("bar")} Then (x = y).ToString should print out True. I need to compare the same (not distinct) set of objects in this list. The list shouldn't support dupes of OtherClass, but I'll have to figure out how to add that in later as an exception. Not interested in using LINQ. It looks nice, but in the few examples I've played with, adds a performance overhead in that bugs me. Loops are ugly, but they are fast :) A straight code answer is fine, but I'd like to understand the logic needed for such a comparison as well. I'm probably going to have to implement said logic more than a few times down the road.

  So to allow any type object I must use generics in my code. I have rewrote this method to do so, but then when I create an object, for example Milk, it won't let me pass it to my method. Ether there's something wrong with my generic revision, or Milk object I created is not good. How should I pass my object correctly and add it to linked list?   I'm trying to expand my sons interest from Warcraft 3 programming into C++ to broaden his horizons to a degree. We are planning on porting a little game that he wrote. The context goes something like this. There are Ships and Missiles, for which Ships will use Missiles and interact with them A Container exists which will hold 'a list' of ships. A Container exists which will hold 'a list' of planets. One can apply a function over all elements in the Container (for_each) Ships and Missles can be created/destroyed at any time New objects automatically insert themselves into the proper container. One must have a ship, in order to access the list of ships. One must have a missile in order to be able to access the list of missiles. That feels awkward. Suppose we have the following grammar, using recursive rules that enforce order of operations, inspired by the ANSI C Yacc grammar: S: A; P : NUMBER | '(' S ')' ; M : P | M '*' P | M '/' P ; A : M | A '+' M | A '-' M ; And we want to parse 1+2 using shift-reduce parsing. First, the 1 is shifted as a NUMBER. My question is, is it then reduced to P, then M, then A, then finally S? How does it know where to stop? Suppose it does reduce all the way to S, then shifts '+'. We'd now have a stack containing: S '+' If we shift '2', the reductions might be: S '+' NUMBER S '+' P S '+' M S '+' A S '+' S Now, on either side of the last line, S could be P, M, A, or NUMBER, and it would still be valid in the sense that any combination would be a correct representation of the text. How does the parser "know" to make it A '+' M So that it can reduce the whole expression to A, then S? In other words, how does it know to stop reducing before shifting the next token? Is this a key difficulty in LR parser generation?

• Stop all sounds permanently in AS3

  Hi, I have a main swf which has sound on/off buttons. It has many SWF's which are loaded into different placeholders at different time. All of them have different sounds in them. In addition to that there is a music loop going on in the background. Now, this perticular swf lets call it Father will be placed in some swf later on. What I'm trying to do right now is when the sound off button is pressed turn off all the sounds permanently so the child swf's and their sounds stop too. I have found a way in AS2 : global = new Sound( ) //no movie clip target path. and add the following code to your off button. on(release){ global.setVolume(0); //mutes all sound } and for on button on(release){ global.setVolume(100); //un mutes all sound } which ofcourse does not work for AS3. So how can I stop all sounds permanently in AS3? Secondly what if I have one sound (my background loop) which I want to keep going on. Would be a lot of help, been searching for a while now without a appropriate answer.
