  • Calling WCF Service from Action Script 2

    Hi All, I am a .NET programmer working with a Flash designer on a project. The design is that they will create a flash UI (implemented with AS2) to present a questionnaire. After it is completed by an end user, the will send me (a .net web service of some form) the answers to the questionnaire, I will perform a calculation, and I will send a response back (the response will likely be a single integer, though it may be a touple of (integer score, string description). Neither myself nor the designer is knowledgeable of Action Script. Does anyone have a snippet for such web service calls in AS2? Are there any soap libraries for AS2 that we could use, or should I expose a RESTful interface? Can it be as simple as having the designer concat the questionnaire answers into the query string of the service URL? What would be a typical data format for my response (xml, json, plain text) Thanks in advance for your help. Frank

  • How to fix an endpoint/configuration error using WCF in VB.NET

    I'm working with a small web page that is meant to assist the users of my application. This web page takes a file and sends it to a central server, which then does something with the data and returns a result. I created this application some time ago and am coming back to it recently. I am getting some kind of configuration error right now, although this application used to work. When it stopped working, whenever I ran the page and sent the data to the central server, I would get this error: "Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CentralService.ICwCentralService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element." Looking at some other issues on the net, I thought I might have had the answer. The service reference to the endpoint was contained in a separate project from the code that called it, but the configuration file in that project had no information about the endpoint. The strange thing is, though, I took those entries from another project that contacts the central server. That application has no problems contacting the central server using these settings. It's not a web page application, but I don't see how that would require these settings to change. I cannot tell what started causing these errors or when. I assume its something that changed outside of the application (e.g. the libraries referenced) that requires an update to the configuration in the application. I am currently using .NET 3.0 for all of my applications. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello, I need your suggestions in solving this issue. Here is the requirement. We have a Microsoft Exchange server and we have a service email account [email protected]. We have scanners all owner the company when a user scans a document and email is sent to [email protected] as attachment. Now I need to write a Windows service which needs to monitor that email account and whenever an email is received, read the attachement and store it in the database.   • How to Get Current Weather via Web Services

    I am attempting to get the current weather given a zip code or a set of latitude/longitude coordinates. It appears that best practice to do this (and how NOAA does it) is to get the XML feed for a weather station. Example: http://www.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KEDW.xml The only problem is that NOAA doesn't provide a good way to find the closest weather station given a zip code or coordinates and I did not see any hosted web services out there that will provide this mapping. Does anyone know of any web services to get the nearest weather station given a zip code or coordinate input? If not, does anyone have any great solutions to look into that provide similar information as NOAA does but takes in a zip code or coordinates?

    Running a ServiceHost with a single contract is working fine like this: servicehost = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyService1)); servicehost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMyService1), new NetTcpBinding(), "net.tcp://127.0.0.1:800/MyApp/MyService1"); servicehost.Open(); Now I'd like to add a second (3rd, 4th, ...) contract. My first guess would be to just add more endpoints like this: servicehost = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyService1)); servicehost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMyService1), new NetTcpBinding(), "net.tcp://127.0.0.1:800/MyApp/MyService1"); servicehost.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMyService2), new NetTcpBinding(), "net.tcp://127.0.0.1:800/MyApp/MyService2"); servicehost.Open(); But of course this does not work, since in the creation of ServiceHost I can either pass MyService1 as parameter or MyService2 - so I can add a lot of endpoints to my service, but all have to use the same contract, since I only can provide one implementation? I got the feeling I'm missing the point, here. Sure there must be some way to provide an implementation for every endpoint-contract I add, or not?

    I am trying to add a service reference to axapta 2009. All is working well, its a simple web method(external webservice) that gets executed on the server tier(necessary, otherwise clr interop error) But I've ran into the following problems : is it possible to close the proxy one way or another? Because this option is not available in the generated service object in AX (only the webmethods and a tostring). at a certain moment, i ran into a service with faulted state. Normally, you create the service object again, but this didnt solve anything, until i restarted the AOS. Is this normal behaviour? Is the service object cached or something like that on server side? Thx in advance.

  • WCF Service worker thread communicate with ServiceHost thread

    I have a windows NT Service that opens a ServiceHost object. The service host context is per-session so for each client a new worker thread is created. What I am trying to do is have each worker thread make calls to the thread that started the service host. The NT Service needs to open a VPN connection and poll information from a device on the remote network. The information is stored in a SQL database for the worker threads to read. I only want to poll the device if there is a client connected, which will reduce network trafic. I would like the worker threads to tell the service host thread that they are requesting information and start the polling and updating the database. Everything is working if the device is alway being polled and the database being updated.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services - Fast TimeDataRetrieval - Long TimeProcessing

    An application that I support has recently begun experiencing extended periods of time required to execute a report in SQL Server Reporting Services. The reports that are being executed are not terribly complex. There are multiple stored procedures (between 5 and 8) which return anywhere from a handful to 8000 records total. Reports are generally from 2 to 100 pages. One can argue (and I have) the benefit of a 100 page report, but the client is footing the bill. At any rate, the problem is that even the reports with 500 records (11 pages) being returned takes 5 minutes to return to the browser. In the execution log the TimeDataRetrieval is 60 seconds, but the TimeProcessing is 235 seconds. It seems bizarre to me that my query runs so quickly, but it takes Reporting Services so long to process the data. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Bernie

    I've run into a problem trying to return an object that holds a collection of childobjects that again can hold a collection of grandchild objects. I get an error, 'connection forcibly closed by host'. Is there any way to make this work? I currently have a structure resembling this: pseudo code: Person: IEnumerable<Order> Order: IEnumberable<OrderLine> All three objects have the DataContract attribute and all public properties i want exposed (including the IEnumerable's) have the DataMember attribute. I have multiple OperationContract's on my service and all the methods returning a single object OR an IEnumerable of an object works perfectly. It's only when i try to nest IEnumerable that it turns bad. Also in my client service reference i picked the generic list as my collection type. I just want to emphasize, only one of my operations/methods fail with this error - the rest of them work perfectly. EDIT (more detailed error description): [SocketException (0x2746): An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host] [IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.] [WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.] [CommunicationException: An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://myservice.mydomain.dk/MyService.svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.] I tried looking for logs but i can't find any... also i'm using a WSHttpBinding and an http endpoint.

    If I use code like this [just below] to add Message Headers to my OperationContext, will all future out-going messages contain that data on any new ClientProxy defined from the same "run" of my application? However, there is no value. The MessageHeaderInfo class has Actor, etc, but nothing else useful I can find. On the client side I had to convert between Header and Untyped header, is there an equivalent operation on the server?

I added DataContract mark above the class and DataMember to properties and it was working fine, but I'm calling a service class's function, passing customer instance as parameter and some of my properties get 0 values. While debugging I can see my properties values and after it gets to the function, some properties' values are 0. Why it can be so? There's no code between this two actions. DataContract mark workes fine, everything's ok. Any suggestions on this issue? I tried to change ByRef to ByVal, but it doesn't change anything. Why it would pass other values right and some of integer types just 0? Maybe the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out.     Using Fiddler, we see 3 HTTP requests (and matching responses) for each call when: WS-ReliableMessaging is enabled, and, the method returns a large amount of data (17MB) The first HTTP request is a SOAP message with the action "CreateSequence" (presumable to establish the reliable session). The second and third HTTP requests are identical SOAP messages invoking our webservice method. Why are there two identical messages?     Full error message: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'PublicationServices.IPublicationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. I have a SharePoint site that I have already opened a project for in Visual Studio 2010. I also created a project that contains a WCF Service Application and added it to the same solution that contains the project for my SharePoint site. I have created a visual web part in my SharePoint project that I am trying to use to consume the WCF Service. I am doing so like this, from within the user control for my web part: PublicationServiceClient proxy = new PublicationServiceClient(); Just having this line alone in OnPreRender, Page_Load, etc. will generate the above error. I've read previous posts about having to have items in the config file of the WCF service also in the config file of the consuming application. I have done this, I copied this section the Web.config file in my WCF service and have placed it in the system.serviceModel tags of my SharePoint project's app.config file: In other words, this is in both of my config files. When I add this web part to the front page of my SharePoint site though, I get the above error every time. I should also note that I have created a console app that I was able to use with no problems to consume data from this very same WCF service. Any help would be appreciated!

    I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

    I am using an example from iDesign about one way calls. I can get it to work on a Vista machine (VS2008) but not on a windows 7 machine (VS2010). I get this error: HTTP could not register URL http://+:8001/MyService/. Your process does not have access rights to this namespace ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyService)); host.Open(); I get the error on the host.Open(); line. I noticed that windows asks first for some firewall and to give permission which I did but still it is not working. What can I do?

    What are the pros and cons of the following 2 cases: Case I: Traditional way: Add service reference in project. Create object and Get data from service on server side and bind to asp.net grid. Case II: Update Service for JSON behavior. Add service reference in project. Call service from javascript to get data. Bind data to jquery grid. Which one is the best approach and why?(Not developer point of view) If there is another approach which is more optimized, please explain it.
